After biking around and grabbing ice cream, I was still famished. I did a quick search of places to eat and a place popped up called Damascus Fine Mediterranean Food. They're slightly hidden in a plaza that houses several different businesses. You can find them beside More Than Subs. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 2:00pm) for a late lunch. Most customers were grabbing takeout but we decided to stay and eat. They have a few seats by the window otherwise there's tables outside. The menu is up on the side wall; wraps, platters, poutine, salads, dips & appetizers and desserts. The two guys working the front were friendly and chill. There's also a TV inside (they had on junior hockey). - Falafel and rice ($11.00) - you get 5 falafels and all the platters come with salad, pita, garlic dip and assorted pickles. Falafels were cooked to order and came out hot. We actually got two extras as the worker came out and told us to take them. The whole platter was tasty except we found the iceberg lettuce to be of cheap quality. Give us tabbuleh or something more unique. - Ground beef meat pies ($4.50) - I love any meat pies so of course we got one to share. They came out folded into 6 pieces with a side of tahini sauce. Good but not the best I've had. - 2x Baklava - they also brought each of us a complimentary piece of finger roll baklava. Amazing! They were fresh and well balanced. Solid spot to grab a cheap Middle Eastern meal along 17th Avenue. 3.5 stars.

Damascus was such a pleasant experience. The food was absolutely incredible - both the beef and the chicken were incredibly moist and full of flavour. Even the salad packed a punch. I am also pleased with their gluten free options! Their menu also advertised for vegan options, though we did not explore that in our visit. We spoke to the owner as he prepared our meal and he was so kind and obviously passionate about his business. He gave us samples of the chicken, beef, and pickled turnips as we inquired, and then threw in some free baklava (regularly $1 each). I would go back simply for the amazing customer service. I will definitely be returning to Damascus. Amazing!

Pictures of Greece adorn the walls, typical of these smaller places, nothing too exotic but a comfortable feel. Unlike many small venues, everything here is spotless and the limited number of tables are well spaced. Service is very friendly. Not as punctual as a chain might offer, but it's easy to forget that when your meal is delivered with such joy. The food is excellent, large portions at reasonable prices. We shared the Ribs and Saganaki appetizers, both excellent. My Mixed Grill Soulvaki was delicious. At first glance I didn't think I could eat it all but it was so good that I powered through. Definitely an alternative to more upscale Greek options, might be our go-to from now on.

We saw they were going to open at 11am, and decided to try our luck by getting there right at opening since we didn't have a reservation. We got lucky and got seated right away! - PARKING - Street parking, make sure you take note of how long you paid for! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - The ambiance inside is so nice and airy, with greenery and natural light shining through. There's also a super cute swing area next to the bar area that you can sit. I really liked the overall interior design! The staff was very attentive for our large party throughout our meal. There are bathrooms downstairs as well. - FOOD - Bacon Jam Benedict ($20.00): Loved the flavor combination in this! The sweet savory maple bacon jam worked so well! We upgraded to the fried potatoes ($4.00) and they were pretty tasty. Carrot Cake French Toast ($24.00): We got one to share with the table, and I'm glad we didn't commit because it was just OK to me. I wish there was more mascarpone filling, and also a different sauce than chocolate because it didn't pair well for me. Winter Nights ($19.00): We wanted to get some greens in and chose this salad. I enjoyed the mix of greens and also the fennel salami which gave a salty bite! Truffle Parm Fries ($13.00): We also got this to share with the table and you can't go wrong with these! - OVERALL - Great brunch option if you have a small or large group! Really nice airy ambiance for a nice start to your day.

My colleague and I walked in and we both order the same thing - Chicken Sharwarma. Their prices are more expensive compared to their competitor and the portion is a lot small as well. I don't know what's with the high rating or maybe they just went downhill all of a sudden. The chicken sharwarma: I like how the pita bread is crunchy. The meat isn't seasoned very well. I mean I had chicken sharwarma where it would really stand out. Not much strong flavor in it. I do like the fact that they are generous in sauce. I mean I am a sauce person. The portion size is smaller compared to their competitor for the price paying. Also the chicken sharwarma is very messy to eat. It drips from either end. What's really disgusting is the hair found in my colleagues chicken sharwarma. That was nasty. Well its good that they replaced his half chicken sharwarma and she did try to explain and did apologized. We came in at noon and left at 12:30. Inside the whole restaurant there was only us and another table. I don't know how they can stay in business longer if they are getting this kind of business everyday. That works just fine for me, I'm not sure I could've had much more than a puff or two of it otherwise. It was my first sheesha experience. I was also the first one there. Cafe Med was busy and I was too afraid to go in by myself. Thank the good Yelp gods for Sarah Louise! She saved me from looking like a creep peeking in the windows for too long. The folks at Cafe Med are friendly people. Our server talked us into some Moroccan Madness (tea) while we waited for the rest of our peeps to arrive. We also snacked on some red pepper hummus and rolled up grape vine leaves (if you've never had them, they're comparable to cabbage rolls in concept... just a different flavour to them). You might also want to try the garlic pizza. As far as sheesha bars go, I have nothing else to compare this one to! So it's got three stars in my books. Mostly because the guy serving our table offered to fill our tea pots up with more hot water, took the pots away and didn't return with them until we inquired about them again. And also because, even though it's a spot to come smoke things, there were times the haze built up enough to burn my eyes for a moment or two. At any rate, the food was pretty cheap, the pipes were just over $10 each and they kept bringing new coals around. From what I gathered, not dropping ashes into the pipe is a bit of an art that Cafe Med has mastered. Overall, a positive experience!

They have so many different flavours of shisha to choose from and each is delicious in their own way. I prefer the fruity flavours to the chocolate or coffee ones though... I find them a little more refreshing. Not only do they have great, friendly service, but they even offer a crash course for all the beginners that go there. It's not like it's hard though. You light the charcoal, and suck on the hose... pretty self-explanatory. Don't worry all you first-timers, everything that goes on inside this place is completely legal. They also have a wide selection of meals and appetizers to choose from, but I don't usually go for it. Like I said, I don't really care for the shisha so I don't feel the need to buy the food in the joint. My philosophy on shisha is, it's not giving me my nicotine fix so what's the point? I definitely understand why other people like to chill in this place though. That's exactly what you do... chill. It's a nice atmosphere with cool people.
