Apologies for the length but wanted to articulate the experience and give a full review/explanation for my 1 star. Stopped in here as we were looking for place to grab a coffee and bite to eat before my mom's doctor appointment nearby (she lives 2 hours out of city so we had a little over an hour until her appointment) and will likely never return. We arrived around 12:30 pm only to be informed that the kitchen did not open until 2 pm but we could get some appetizers (except we were never given a menu for appetizers, only beverages and there was a dessert menu on the table next to us, so we didn't order food). Our group of four ordered 3 coffees and one pop. Coffees were $3.99+tax each for just a small cup of regular coffee (nothing fancy like lattes or the $6.99 coffee that was also on the menu). For comparison I paid $2.19 for a coffee twice the size at Tim Hortons that morning. I also asked for a glass of water (which I had to remind waitress about when she brought our drinks) and she brought out water for each of us which was very warm and the glasses were not particularly clean. The decor of the place was quite nice and we all liked the look and feel but the bathroom sink tap was broken making it difficult to wash hands after using the washroom. The waitress was very polite and friendly though not very attentive or even accessible as she seemed to be in the back for quite some time so when we wanted a refill on coffee we had to wait for her to appear behind the bar and then had to go up to ask her. I ordered 1 refill on my coffee and my mom & her friend ended up having 2 refills each (so 2 cups for me and 3 cups of coffee each for them so less than a whole pot of coffee which costs pennies to make). We were shocked when we were paying the bill which totalled $45 (for a couple of small cups of coffee and 1 pop!). Apparently $3.99 gets you one small cup of coffee and if you want more its another full charge for each cup. We were never told this (nor was it indicated in the menu). To be clear it was NOT busy (there was only 1 other customer in the entire place so it was not a surcharge for only ordering coffee during busy time which I would have understood) and it was clear we had never been there before (we had to ask where bathroom was, and about parking and my mom inquired about hookah as the other customer was puffing away on one etc.).. I used to waitress before and since it is not standard practice to charge full price for each cup of coffee I would have mentioned it to a customer so they were aware. We had no idea until it came time to pay. 1. If your kitchen isn't open until 2pm that should be indicated in your ads/listings (they only said they opened at 10am I believe when we searched for place nearby). 2. If you are going to charge that kind of price for a very small cup of basic coffee I shouldn't have to wait for the staff to appear and then have to get up and come to you to ask for it (and it should be indicated that refills are full charge rather than surprising the person with an exorbitant bill at the end). 3. For those kinds of prices I'd expect a fully functioning place, not dealing with a broken down tap barely attached to the bathroom sink as well as what appeared to be a leaking toilet (very obvious crusty chemical looking stain around the toilet in the stall beside me). Over all it was the most expensive and most disappointing "going for a coffee" experience any of us had ever had. My wife and I sat in the non-smoking section and had an excellent meal. The Grilled shrimp were very good, as well as the salads and sides. Service was also very good and Jani the Chef came out to check on things. The menu is very different than most with options for spicy or mild. Many options for vegetarians as well. This location has been home to at least four establishments over the last 15 years. Being a supporter of local business and with time and money to burn, my pal and I checked out Trio with no expectations. I felt somewhat underdressed because the decor is very classy and I hadn't showered in like 4 days, (dirty hippie look) but the bartender was welcoming. We got a glass of red and soon after (when I regained my bearings) I was delighted to discover this was a hookah bar! I ordered a Double Apple (shisha, like tobacco but sweeter, and comes in pucks, plus you smoke it from a 3' tall bong so it's extra smooth) My pal Rob doesn't smoke but he loved the trio of Mediterranean-style dips, baba gounosh, hummus, and ... I forget the other but they're all good and fairly nutritious. There were really good-looking meals being served so next time I go I must get some... this visit I was in it for the smoking. The atmosphere was really fuckin cool. Check Trio out if you like chilling, hookah smoking, drinking, and the cultural aspects therein. The food i had was good too. Stay up everybody! read more

Clean restaurant! Clean hookah! Best hookah good service and price is good. Yesterday we stopped at a hookah shop the hose was sticky and cost roughly 10 dollars more. Their excuse was that other shops charge you per coal. Needless to say I won't trust a Yelp review for the best shisha spot in Calgary anymore. Highly recommend this place not rated the best just goes to show hidden gems are better than artificially created reviews. read more

Came in with the wife thinking this was a family restaurant. Wrong. They had half naked girls belly dancing on the big screen the whole time we were there. Also if you dont smoke, do not bother coming here as you will choke on everyone else's second hand smoke. We ordered the mixed platter. The rice was excellent but everything else was subpar at best. The protein portions were tiny and you could tell they were not the best quality. The garlic sauce is so small it is not sufficient for the whole meal, you will ask for more. Salad tasted like someone sprayed lemon on vegetables and served it as a salad. It might be a decent place to hang out if your with a group of male buddies, as it was mostly men drinking smoking and watching the nudie show on tv. But you might want to take your family somewhere a little more PG to save yourself the embarrassment read more

Went to this place. Ordered a traditional egyption food which is hawawshi. The bread was soft , the meat had no flavour, took forever to cook the food which was only 1 order. I wont recommend it to anyone. read more

Very bad service!! First our waiter tried to get us to purchase a bottle of water instead of just a regular glass of water (like I saw from another review). Second, we got our food an hour after we had arrived and it came cold as if it has been sitting for awhile. We also did not get our utensils or plates 20 mins after our food arrived in which we had to ask for! When our waiter gave us the food, we asked for more water but he never came back until he gave us our bill. Another worker had to give us the utensils and water. When we paid, our waiter looked over the shoulder to make sure we would tip but he did not give us any service at all, didn't ask how our food was or if we needed anything more, let alone couldn't even give us more water! I could tell we were being treated differently as everyone around us seem to be getting a decent service by this waiter so I'm not quite sure what was going on. Very disappointed, would not recommend, never coming back to this place. read more
