The benefits manager, Stephanie, seriously went above and beyond to provide me with the medical equipment I needed. I went into Shaw-Med after a broke my foot on a Friday evening. We came in close to their closing time and had issues with communication between the doctor's office and the shop, but Stephanie ensured I went home in a stabilizing boot to save my foot until the scheduled surgery! I am so very thankful for her advocating for me. All I can say is the service provided was well above expectations. Went in as soon as they opened. Got me needs met quickly and they are really reasonably price for rentals (knee scooter). Id use them again and there is good parking on the street (Charnleton). Person that waited on me actually was on a scooter too so that was helpful to see how it all worked. read more

This business has been around for as long as I can remember. So I would expect a lot more in terms of customer service when I came in here last week. It really made me sad, because I wanted to like this business. When I came home, my mom asked me if this is where we went to find what she needed. So obviously it's a well-known store in the medical field, given she was a nurse. So again, I would expect better treatment. I came in here with my brother earlier in the week, and we were looking for a cane for my mom. It needed to be specific, with the four prongs/legs on it. It's for better balance, and the four legs or whatever they are called are much safer/stable in those terms. She's been going through chemo and has a lot of side effects of it, like being unsteady on her feet, and a cane was very desperately needed. We walk in here to find some older customers looking at the walkers with the seats on them, and we take a look around, looking for the cane section. This older lady sitting behind a desk says she'll be with us in a moment. Ok, not a big deal. Then, instead of finishing what she was doing so she could get up and focus on us, she proceeds to ask what we are looking for, without getting up or even bothering to give us any real attention. We explain it to her, she says a quad cane. Ok, always good to know terms. They were right in front of the desk she was sitting at. There's a single, silver/metal one there. We didn't want that. It screams hospital/nursing home to me. I didn't want my house to look like that, nor my mother to get in that mindset of she's ready for that. So we wanted a different color. We ask her if she has anything else available. Nope. That's the answer, nope. She might as well have said, sorry. It sucks to be you, because this is it. She was not even willing to look and see if it can be special ordered, any additional information. Just no. I wasn't a fan of her attitude, and we walked out. She reminded me of the old school librarian, that sits behind the desk and gives you the death stare before you even make a sound. Or shoots daggers out of her eyes at you if you cough too loudly. She was that kind of grumpy/judgmental person, staring at you down the nose of her glasses. Not exactly helpful, by any near means. Now, had she finished what she was doing and came out from behind the desk to actually talk to us, I wouldn't have minded. I don't really care that they didn't have what we needed. It was the attitude and serious lack of customer service that I cared about. She could have given us recommendations on where to go to find what we were looking for since they didn't carry it here, maybe checked if it could be special ordered. There was a ton of things she could have done to make this a 5 star experience. Instead she just sat behind the desk and was rude. I've been dealing with ShawMed for years, both on a business level and a personal level. Every time that I've dealt with any of the staff~ both in person and over the phone, I get rude treatment. EVERY TIME. They act as if they are being inconvenienced in some way. My mother and my good friend have both also received this type of treatment. Shame on you ShawMed! So after my experience just on the phone with this company, I decided they had lousy customer service; so I came on here to read reviews and it sounds like that is an obvious theme- it wasn't just the lady on the phone having a bad day. My dad is on hospice, just had a catheter put in and I was looking for a cover to the big old gross bag. Not a common item, Im sure, but it was worth a try and besides, they are only three blocks from my work The lady who answered just said NO we don't carry those. I asked where I might get one if she knew.. she was just unfriendly- you would think when I said my dad is on hospice- which means he is dying, there would be just a tad bit of sympathy or understanding in her voice. I agree with the comment below about the librarian shushing me. Sucks when family businesses hire family and don't really care about perception or being polite and kind. I called to find out what whether Shaw-med carried two different items and what their pricing was as well as to set up a time to meet with someone for a fitting. My hope was I could take care of everything I was needing in one stop, with one supplier. After verifying they accepted my insurance, with the fellow who answered the phone, I asked about the first item at which point I was to "that's not covered!" I explained I had verified with my insurance company and indeed it was; the response I received was "NOT!" Thus ensued a bit of back & forth with my explaining that as long as I had a prescription for it, then yes, my insurance would cover. I was rudely placed on hold then to be told very rudely that he talked to their billing person and they don't cover those and he doesn't know who I talked to "at my insurance but they obviously don't know what they are talking about!" Wow! Really. I checked what I needed to with my insurance as to what I would need to do to make sure the item was covered. After talking ext-ten-sively with the "right" person to get the "right" information, I find it insulting and presumptuous for him to assume the person I spoke with was unclear as to what was and wasn't covered- as that is THEIR JOB, not their billing persons'- and that it was ok to speak to me in the manner in which he did. Needless to say, I was so taken back that someone would ACTUALLY speak to someone cold calling their office, I decided I most definitely did NOT want to see how customers who transacted business were treated; which translates to my having to drive to two different places to have to pick up my items- both those businesses were fantastic BEFORE I stepped through their door! I've been to Shaw's about three times since 2015 to get items for a foot injury. Recently I developed a bone spur on my good foot and needed to find some kind of heel lift for my shoes. I went in a few days ago. Walked in about noon and the man who I'm familiar with was there helping a couple ladies w/ a wheelchair. A blonde woman sitting at a desk near the front door, who I saw out of the corner of my eye, saw me but never said hello or welcome. I just started walking to where I thought the foot supplies were. The man helping the ladies saw me but never said "hi, someone will be right with you." I hear some older gentleman come through the front door and another woman (with long dark hair) pops out from the front desk area and helps the old man. Ok....I'm a little perturbed now. No one acknowldges me. I'm just some ghost in the store standing by the foot supply area and now I am needing to sit down because my foot hurts. Ten minutes goes by. The blonde woman at the front desk walks to the back of the store never glancing across the store because she might see that I can see her. She walks to the back of the store where there is a desk. She stands there chatting to someone sitting down. She turns her head and stares right at me. Our eyes meet. She then waits a second or two or three then turns her head back. Still the man is working with the two ladies on the wheelchair purchase and the old man is at the counter paying for his item and starts talking about his life's story. The woman helping him is just wrapped up in his conversation and now I get up and go to the counter hoping she might see me and then figure out how to gracefully end the one-way conversation. I'm all about tactfulness but this is just absurd. She too cannot see me and my standing at the counter and making a slight clearing of my throat does nothing to break her concentration.I walk out of the store. F this place! Seriously....GO TO ANOTHER MEDICAL SUPPLY STORE and support friendly store workers and store owners. Shaw's is not in the business of respecting all customers. read more

I just started using Shaw-med. I have dealt with them 3 times, 3 different people and all of them very rude. I looked at their website and realized their all family. No wonder. They definitely are not a very friendly family even though the website says they are and won't go out of their way to help, but rather get pissed if you ask too many questions to find out your information. Good thing they have home delivery, the only good thing about this place, but I am going to try to find a better place. They need to sell this business to nice people that have time to answer your questions politely. 1 star only for delivery. After i figure out what product i want to use. I will hopefully never have to speak to someone there again for very long. read more

So I had a minor foot problem (plantar fasciitis) and needed a boot to keep my foot in place while sleeping. I was recommended here by a friend, and paid $90 for the above said PF boot (Ovation Medical Hybrid Night Splint). I ended up looking online afterwards, and low and behold, that same boot is sold by the maker for $32.99. I was charged nearly 3x the price for a product. I really like supporting local businesses, and don't mind a mark up, I understand they need to make a profit, but this was pretty ridiculous. The service was good, and I have 0 complaints about that, but honestly, if you need something from them, from my very limited experience, you should probably just shop online first. I hate to say it, but I would have got the same product, and probably paid an extra $20 for them to overnight it to me, and still saved almost half the price. This price gouging is what is going to kill brick and mortar shops, and to be honest, I can see why. I should have done my homework first, and that is on me, but come on...who makes up these prices? To recap, good service and selection, but outrageous prices. I can't recommend anyone spend their money there, unless you have it in excess. read more
