After being loyal customers, for the last five months, I had to contact it for every single bill to fight about a ridiculous overcharge amount. I've given the service 3 stars because it's no worse than Telus, but the service is awful. I just went through 3 telephone links to finally arrive at someone to move my account. I started with someone who re-connected me to Winnipeg who re-connected me to Victoria. Then I found out the services I had ordered 2 weeks earlier couldn't be completed. So I cancelled everything . . . and started over. The problem is that the company is publicly traded and too much money is being returned to shareholders as profits. This is the problem with many publicly traded companies . . . we pay for those profits by not getting decent service. Telecommunications should not be a public entity for this very reason; consumers suffer as companies compete for our dollar by offering the world and delivering a grain of sand ... and the rest, to their profit mongers. read more

I have been on hold for 1 hour and 20 minutes...no answer yet! Tried using their Chat. It took over twenty minutes for a response only to get a computer generated reply. Another twenty minutes for a human on the other end who took on average 3 minutes to respond to simple questions which weren't answered. Gave up on that. We have subscribed bundled services for digital phone, internet and cable for the past 4 years since we moved back to Vancouver. I'm glad that we are moving out of the country again and are able to bid good riddance to Shaw's cable service. The phone service and internet are decent but the DVR provided by Shaw is nothing to speak of for close to $180 / month of our bundled services. Our DVR is a PACE HD-DVR provided by Shaw. These are the problems we have had since we had this unit for the past year and a half: 1. The unit slows to a grind (from a delay of a few seconds to being non-responsive to the remote control) before the unit resets itself. When it does (which happens every 3 weeks or so), the channel guide has no information available and anything recordings saved are not viewable for close to 60 minutes. 2. Transmission is intermittent. We turn the TV on and pick a channel. It will go for about 1 minute and the display goes away. This causes a one-hour show being recorded with over 60 separate sequences. This intermittent transmission happens regularly. 3. Shaw VOD simply does not work. It is clunky at best. We received a credit for a movie because a Shaw black out caused us to lose a previously purchased recording. After taking about more than 3 minutes for the connection to churn itself, displayed is an error message that our account / unit is not set up for VOD and we would need to call a number. Seriously, do you think we would like to wait on the phone for Shaw's IT to sort itself out. We swiftly switched back to our reliable Apple TV. We had no such experience when we were on DirecTV with TiVO back in California. Would we choose Shaw again when we return to Vancouver? No. Would we recommend Shaw to friends and families? Definitely not. Simply put, not reliable. read more

In July of 2018 I was called by what must have been a commissioned sales rep located in Vancouver. He told me if I switched from Shaw Satellite to Shaw Cable, that I would get more channels for less money per month, and I would get better hardware. That sounded great, but it was totally false. I now pay $40.00 more and get the same channels or less. And when it comes to the "much better hardware", the reality is I have the same type of garbage receivers that fail when it comes to VOD, Rewind and Record, and they sometime freeze and then need to be unplugged and re-started, which means about 4 minutes of lost viewing. After the last Freeze Fail I called the Shaw Support line, and after waiting on hold for 70 minutes and counting, I decided to write this review. When I finally did get through to Shaw Support I told the Support Staff that the Shaw Rep who called and told me I would be paying less per month, failed to mention that I would now have to pay $15.00 for the HDPVR, and another $5.00 per month for each "Portal Rental" unit for 5 TV's ($25.00) so another $40.00 per month. And that he lied when he said I could go back to Shaw Satellite at any time if I wasn't happy, when in fact he stuck me in a 2-year contract! It seems Shaw hires people and trains them BAIT AND SWITCH their customers into spending more money per month by switching to another garbage service! I must say the Support Rep was helpful, and put in a request to have the conversation listened to by a Supervisor, who would then get back to me. That was a month ago and I'm still waiting for that to happen. So after getting another email and a phone call on the same day saying Shaw was about to cancel my services in 9 days (email) and in 2 days (phone call) I finally chatted with someone in Support who told me how to link my Shaw Cable Bill to the Shaw account, which was only showing my Satellite Bill, which showed a credit since it was paid in advance. I did this and then saw a bill for $130 more than the bill they emailed me on the same day. Wow. Just wow. So I had to make a payment for 3 months, including 1 full month in advance. What a hassle. Next time a person from Shaw calls trying to sell me a new service I will say I'm not interested and hang up, as all they do is lie to you trying to make a commission. And the CRTC is completely useless, as their website says work it out with the company. Yeah, that's like saying just tell robo-spammers to stop calling you! I really should have waited for Telus High Speed Internet and then got Telus Optic. Now I'm stuck with this garbage for another 2 years, and will pay another $960.00 for it at $40.00 more per month X 12! read more

We moved and transferred our Shaw account to our new address. After a month of attempting to get the same stations and 2 tech visits, we still did not have correct stations and our first invoice was a bill in dicating "past due" for period that was 2 months in advance and hadn't occurred! When SHAW was contacted about this, there response is that that is the new way of billing. So basically they invoice for services not provided for! I could understand if they would have advised of this in advance or asked for a security deposit but that was not the case. I provided one star only because I had to pick one. Shaw is a zero for me! TERRIBLE F*KING AWFUL service. Our internet and cable has been down since July 29, soonest available for a technician to come in was Aug 7. Our family patiently waited for more than a week to get it fixed. It's Aug 7 today, and guess what, no technician came. We called customer service multiple times, they said the technician was on his way. Called a few hours later, they say "nobody was home, we will send another technician to come on Aug 14." Our whole family was home awaiting for their arrival and NOBODY came. And they have the audacity to say nobody was home? Nobody even bothered to knock on our door or call us. For once, a nice time of paying your Shaw bill in person. Located in the Shaw Tower, half office/ half residence, it's a great view by the water, plus you get to buy a Starbucks right inside the lobby while patiently waiting in the lineups, depending on time of day. Usually i find the Shaw customer service friendly here. If there is lineup though, and you're just picking up or dropping off a box, you can skip the lineup by going to their info desk. It's also open Saturdays fr 8am til 5pm so kinda convenient but street parking's not cheap there. read more

Waited over 3 days for the field tech to come fix the cable box. Appointment was supposed to be 1-3pm. Live chat with agent in the morning and in the afternoon to make sure it is booked. At 3pm, still no show...and live chat agent said will get field tech to call, no one called after another 2 hours wait! Finally got another agent on the chat and found out appointment was cancelled due to emergency. No one even bothered to contact us for rescheduling! 3 weeks of no cable, my roommate is missing his soccer games, which he pays $30/month. Customer service not calling back. Technician making horrible allibis that no one was at the intercom; we instructed them to call us since our intercom has not been functioning for years. And they will not give us any credit for the lost service. My husband worked for Shaw 2011-2013 and had direct deposit - right there they have our account info on file. I havent received a paper copy of a bill since May, which showed a credit of -$50. I have also paid the account since they say that pre auth was set up. If it was pre auth, why would I have a credit? Why have I also been paying the bill? Why dont they have the record that they said I needed to provide in order to set up pre auth? So here's a yarn about telco chatbots, and telcos' wars on their customers. Rogers Shaw screwed up, I went on chat, was presented with James, nice photo, 10 years experience "helping hundreds of people". But I'm not actually talking with James, I'm talking with James's assistant Pearl Wilson, nice photo. Except Pearl is actually a chatbot, and a damn stupid one too, so a fraud on the customer. "She" tries to up-sell me to new services. I point out that I'm speaking to a chatbot, and would like a real person. That's just too much for Pearl. So the chat kicked me out to a third-party service that charges $2 to sign up and $66 a month to answer my questions about my computer. I thought, this can't be right, so I went on chat again and tried the same approach. Same result. Rogers Shaw's gall actually shocked me, and it takes a bit. Also note to Rogers Shaw: if James has helped hundreds of people in 10 years, that is at best two people a week. What does James, if in fact he is a real person, do with the rest of his time? read more

Let's face it. ISPs in this city are overpriced. I made the switch from Telus to Shaw because they were offering new customers a good deal to switch over. So cool, I'm using Shaw, and I'm experiencing slightly more service interruptions and slower speeds, but I'm paying less, so I can live with that. Then fast forward half a year and I'm moving into a new building. I call in to tell the agent I'd like to set up an appointment for a technician almost a month in advance, and I'm told, "no worries, self set-up is seamless, you can do it yourself!" Long story short, I could not. The suite was not set up for Shaw, so I have to book a technician after I move in. Tech gets here and I find out they can't do anything because they need access to the cable room and my concierge doesn't open till 9AM (it's 8:42AM). Bye technician! Guess I have to wait for the next time a tech is available. I wish I could say it's the first time something like this has happened, but it's not. All in all I've lost like two weeks+ of service total in the 1.5 years I've had Shaw. Which is baffling to me, because this whole situation feels like it could've been so easily avoided So thanks Shaw, cause I've always been curious what living off my mobile data and using my phone as a hotspot is like. Thanks for offering me $35 compensation, after I wasted two hours on the phone and a week waiting for a tech. The silver lining is I get to switch to Novus now. Just a FYI. The FIRST thing the Novus rep did was check to see if their service had been set up previously in the suite. They also told me fibre was available in my building, but somehow Shaw's fibre team missed that. I dno fam, I typically don't write reviews, but why is it Novus could see a tech was necessary, and Shaw couldn't? Why didn't someone spend 5 minutes to ask some questions about the layout of my apartment to save me a week of hassle? Is it cause Shaw has shareholders and Novus doesn't? Or is the business philosophy of ISPs in this city just: "Hey. We know we suck. But we don't have any real competition, so you'd better get used to it." read more

I have given Shaw one star based on their internet service. The system seems to be "down for maintenance" almost every day. I'm not sure if others are experiencing this or not. I am seriously considering switching to Telus but understand that their online service department is now located somewhere in S.E. Asia and it can take hours for them to answer the phone and when they do you might have a problem understanding their English. Despite this I just heard from someone with their own business who switched to Telus because they would go broke if they had to rely on Shaw internet. It's time that consumers got together to demand changes or a that a third provider be allowed to give Shaw and Telus some serious competition. read more

We needed to get wifi in the Okanagan and we went with Shaw cable as it seemed to be the best option. We ordered it 2 months before we took possession of our home. Well... 9 phone calls later (each lasting an expansive amount of time on hold) Shaw sending our equipment to an address that wasn't ours ( we asked for it to be delivered To the Okanagan and it was delivered to Surrey) . The customer service rep blamed the delivery company (Purolator). While on the phone with a customer service representative, after waiting on hold for an hour, I was out on hold and the representative did not come back on. When I called back the message said that they were closed so I was basically hung up on by the representative. In the end I had to travel to the address where my equipment had been delivered to, ask the homeowner if he had my package (which he did) and then Drive it up to the Okanagan. When I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor it Seemed that the staff were pretty effective at blocking that request better than actually providing customer service. I guess that is a what happens when customers don't matter. I would suggest that the new owners (Rogers) start by putting customers first rather than shafting their customers. I definitely would not recommend Shaw Cable based on this brutal customer service (or lack of service) experience. read more

First off I just want to be clear that this review is about the home technician that came to today to fix an on going problem that I had since November. 2017. The problem was that the signal kept dropping which meant I couldn't watch TV 95% of the time. In January they had a technician come out to try to boost the signal it worked for a few days and then it stopped working. So from January until now I couldn't watch TV intermittently sometimes it would work sometimes it wouldn't. Last week Friday I finally got annoyed and irritated and brought my box back and attempted to cancel my service. The lady that helped me took my old box gave me a new box and boosted my cable plan at no extra charge which was great. When I got home I attempted to activate my new cable box I called the number I spent an hour on the phone and I still could not get a signal. Finally I got another appointment for another technician to come out which he did today. Milan was my technician that helped me today. Shaw really needs to consider finding more people like him. He was friendly, he was helpful, so very nice and very persistent about fixing the issue. I think in total he spent more than two hours trying to get the cable box to work. He was also very knowledgable and skilled at what he does. I'm just so happy and grateful that Milan really wanted to fix my problem after he heard how long it had been going on. He was just awesome and I just like to thank him again he he did a great job! read more

The only saving grace of shaw is that they do not demand a contract for their services. You can quit at any time no penalties applied unlike any of the other big 3 who lock you into expensive contracts and to break them you have to pay serious penalties. However, that being said. The speeds are not as advertised consistantly. You need to reboot your modem on a nearly monthly basis to gain a few days of the advertised speed before it throttles back down under their advertised speeds, and then they ask you to submit from a phone (Which cannot handle the advertised speeds) or a different computer or location, uhm, it's a wired location? How do I submit from a different location? What you want me to use ANOTHER computer to measure the speed against the current one? Well that all depends on the computer specs, however, it should still be close. 500mbps up 100mbps down and I'm not even getting half that most of the time on a hard lined computer.... a phone is going to do more? Pah-lease. Their customer service response time is also abysmal, hours on hold to be connected to be told to power cycle your modem which you did before you even called them because that is what you were told the last time you spent hours on hold. They also randomly cycle connections. One moment you are connected the next you are needing to wait 10+ minutes for the modem to re-connect. That alone is unacceptable. Why? Kelowna has a population of 131,000 people, being generous and assuming a 4 way split between the big 3 and shaw, this becomes just shy of 33,000 people. When the modem cycles it takes upwards of 10 minutes for it to re-lock. (and it is not uncommon for it to need to cycle multiple times before locking) Whens the last time you took 10 minutes to re-connect to youtube....facebook...discord......twitch....skype.....each of these platforms handle far more data than Shaw does and have no issues without a physical modem yet you are stuck waiting for it to self power cycle, connect, and re-cycle itself over 10-20 minutes. In this day and age this is unacceptable, especially when it happens without warning or explanation. I have always advocated shaw, however you guys are losing some serious ground with me. You have the plans, you have the speed, but stop cutting corners and get your shit together and provide what you actually advertise and make it reliable, you are starting to fall seriously short on that and I'm sure many other customers are also getting just as frustrated as I am. My Shaw TV, Internet and home phone stopped working last month-on July 29th. Shaw identified a problem with equipment outside my home, and scheduled me for an appointment on Thursday Aug 13-two weeks to wait. They put my name on an 'URGENT' list to see if a technician could fit my repair in before Aug 13th. Today is August 10th, and I'm still waiting.....with no internet, no tv and no phone. Needless to say I am not impressed with this total lack of service for two weeks. I live in North Vancouver, not in some remote island. Did Shaw lay off a lot of their technicians to cause such delays in repair service? I phoned Telus, the only other option we have for these services, and they would have to dig to install the fibre optic cable which would require Several weeks' time to have this done. So I'm stuck with Shaw. Very frustrating to go through this in the year 2020. Any suggestions? read more

However, my sister did not mention my name when her cable and Internet were installed, so I did not get the 50 dollars off for my next cable bill. The customer service lady was not helpful with the situation, and she said that it would be not possible for me to get the discount now. I'm not from San Francisco - I'm from Canada - Yelp has serious ID issues. Seriously consider options before moving to Shaw. They have moved to an Xi6 box instead of the tried and true COAX cable they used to use. We have constant freezing and sound loss on the Xi6 box and instead of admitting there's an issue with them they told me the LAN cable was the problem - it was CAT5 - didn't occur to them that I already told them the second Xi6 box also freezes and its CAT5e. And why do they claim the Xi6 need more than 100MB LAN speed to run cleanly. It also freezes on CAT5e (which can support speeds faster than CAT5) - any excuse to blame you rather than admit they have chosen a poor product. The other concern is you are signing a 2 year contract - if you get frustrated and leave you pay a penalty for every unused month. With the options available now I really recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Contacted Shaw Cable again due to picture blackouts, no audio, picture depixilating, audio not matching picture, to name a few. I even told them there's more Residents in the Apartment building, having the same problem. (After spending 2 hours trying to get a hold of them). Well, we got cable for 2 hours on channel "3", so I got to watch the News and ET and ET tonight, then back to black on all channels. I just tried to get a hold of them on line again, and was told there were problems in my area and they're trying to get to it soon. So now I still have NO cable! Absolutely the worst customer service. Moved to a new place on March 30th. Made a appointment to have my services restored two weeks prior. The technician never showed up. They made me 3 other appointments for reconnection and all three times no one showed up. I still don't have service and it's April 6th. Had to rent a Airbnb just so I have wifi as I work from home during the pandemic. It's been the worst service. Other people in my building had the same experience. I called Telus and they were great. I definitely don't recommend Shaw. I will be reporting them to the CRTC. read more

The customer service we receive from Shaw Cable's employees has been less than ideal. When we moved, the place we moved into was only set up for Telus. It was like pulling teeth to even get a tech in to set it up for Shaw. We recieved a lot of attitude and their agent was very rude. When the tech showed up to "install" the outlet, he was unwilling to install the outlet where we needed it. He then did not install a proper outlet, he pulled the cord from inside the wall out of the side of the outlet(I will attach a picture). We didn't notice until after he left and when we called to get someone to fix it, they would not send someone out. Now that our contract is up, we called to see what they could offer us to potentially continue our services with Shaw...particularly as our internet speed dropped tremendously for no apparent reason even though we are paying more now(yes, we've disconnected and reconnected the modem multiple times). The agent we reached, yet again, was very rude and was unwilling to help us solve our problem. As for the offers, they won't match Telus, so we are thinking we should just switch over. At least Telus will install proper outlets, and their customer service is phenomenal. Very disappointing, Shaw. read more

Called to cancel my internet because we've decided to go a different route and the guy spent about 5 minutes trying to bully me into staying. After denying all his advances I said "I'd really like to just cancel my internet" to which his response was he scoffed and said "ugh what a shame" I told him he wasn't practicing very good costumer service and he replied "so what you're leaving us anyways" With costumer service like that no wonder I'm happy to be switching to Telus. Customer service is not what it should be, for the prices they charge. I requested a new contract to improve service / costs and thought I had done everything correctly, but I still had a question. I did a chat with Kiran at Shaw in Winnipeg. He said I didn't need an installation tech, like my contract said. The contract also said the $50.00 installation fee would be waived. Kiran said he'd just mail the equipment out and I could "Plug & Play". I received the equipment promptly by courier. For a new modem, the instructions specifically said DO NOT install modem in basement. My original Shaw modem IS in the basement, so I contacted Shaw to put the installation visit on the calendar. Now they say I'm too late. It's not their fault that Kiran lied -- I was out of luck. It would now cost me $100.00 to do the installation according to their specification. They refuse to honour the contract. read more
