Came here for help with a brake lever adjustment, Sally and Matt were super helpful, adjusted my cables and pretty much solved my problem without putting a dent in my wallet. I highly recommend checking them out for any bike service or if you are shopping for a bike. read more

They have a nice range of brands and models of bicycles. They have a solid inventory of parts, clothes, shoes, etc. They were very accommodating with me and requests to road test several upright handlebar bikes. They were also patient when I said I needed to think more about it and would return later. They knew the upside and downside to each bike I inquired about. They knew what was readily available from warehouse inventory that they might not yet have on the floor. They don't seem to mind if one drools while ogling the high zoot, pricey frames/bikes.... So anyway I have been in the shop once every month or two over the last couple of years and have never felt dissed by the staff. Sorry about some other posters reported experiences with snarky staff. My visits and encounters have all been positive. I suggest that you give them a try and see how you find the shop and the staff. read more

Family owned and very helpful with purchasing our bikes and all our repairs over the years. Thank you Sharp Bicycle!

I recently had Sharp Bicycles replace my shifter cables as one had broken. They did a great job. Not only were the cables replaced but the bike was tuned up and rides better than it has in a long time. read more

My first visit to this shop was mid 2021 when bikes were pretty hard to come by. I came in just to browse and was surprised they had the bike in stock that my father who lives a couple hours away was looking for. Spent around $3000 on a new Santa Cruz Chameleon. Paid in full and came back to pick the bike up later that day as I was on my lunch break at work. I was pretty disappointed when I got home that they didn't even take the time to air up the tires or make sure the bars and levers were on straight. I can understand not taking the time to make sure the bike was set up for me as I did tell them it was a gift for someone else but seriously? Flat tires? I own an air pump and basic tools but what's the point of buying a bike at your local bike shop if they can't put it together correctly. Recently I stopped by to browse their shop again as I've been looking for a size small Santa Cruz 5010 or Bronson. The store owner basically told me he doesn't order size small bikes. He then proceeded to try and convince me to buy a size medium. I've never gotten a good vibe from this bike shop. And based off their reviews I'm not the only one. read more

Expert repairs, nice people, bike travel enthusiasts! They sold me my Lemond several years ago - the perfect bike for my size and ability - and they've been keeping it running great for years. They get me back out on the road quick too! Love all these guys and Sally! read more

Out of all the wonderful employees, one employee in particular named Sean helped me find the perfect new mountain bike. He was super helpful and knew everything about bikes. I don't think I've ever talked to someone that knowledgeable. It's really nice to see a high school worker that actually knows what they're doing. Very pleased. Give this man a raise!! read more

I got into cycling 4 years ago, and Matt & Sally have helped me with all of my needs, including bikes, accessories, tune-ups and repairs. I really appreciate their knowledge & helpfulness, as well as the fact that they never try to upsell you to buy something more expensive than you need. My next purchase will probably be an e-Bike, which I look forward to buying from Sharp. read more

After purchasing a Cervelo second-hand (used, off of eBay), I was notified that the fork was recalled. The 1-800 Cervelo rep informed me to bring it to the nearest authorized dealer, thus, I ended up at Sharp Bicycle in Lafayette, CA. I gave Sharp Bicycle a call first, to confirm that they were able to help with the fork recall and swap it out with one approved by Cervelo. They asked that I bring my bike in the next day - and that they would do their best to help out. I stopped in the next day (a Saturday), and was greeted by Matt (the owner). Extremely friendly and willing to assist, he took my bike and asked that I call back Tues/Wed or the following week to check status. That Wednesday, Sharp let me know that the replacement fork was already shipped and would arrive Thursday. I gave them a call Friday, and they said the bike was ready for pick-up. Eager to see my bike, I made my visit to Sharp Bicycle the next day, Saturday, exactly one week after bringing it in. The bike was all ready to go with a brand new 3T carbon fork installed. The staff that I interacted with was super accommodating, community-oriented, and helpful in answering all of my questions. I would highly recommend Sharp Bicycle for your bike needs and definitely let them know you were referred by me! :) read more

Yeah so I went to this store because they were a convenient drive over from where I live - I walked in with my girlfriend and noticed that the store seemed like a nice set up. They have a good deal of high end bikes to peruse. Someone came over and talked with me and I asked some questions. This guy was nice and answered everything in an informative manner. He didn't seem to push me in any direction and if it was just him I'd be back to this shop. I think his name was Devon. It was the mechanic and his look alike that bugged me. He seemed to think it was important for me to see what he thought of some of my questions. He would smirk and look over at his pal who I guess worked there too. I guess I'm just supposed to walk in and smile and throw down a pile of cash no questions asked? Any why the hell should I give a crap about what the mechanic thinks? Well I don't but I found it distracting and I'm happy to never come back. In fact what I'll do is use the store to test ride some bikes and then pay someone else who deserves it. In fact I went with my girlfriend to Hank and Frank down the street and she ended up buying a bike + gear there. It pays to have nice people doesn't it Sharp? read more

I brought my bike in for an emergency replacement of a broken derailleur cable. The mechanics and owners were friendly. They did replace the cable and did I nice job in the derailleur adjustments. They also have a very nice selection of accessories - saddles, etc. However they both gave me a number of criticisms: 1. my handlebars were "wrong" - not "deep enough" and too deep and too long (extending backwards) 2. my brake levers were too big for me, that I could not reach them adequately THESE COMMENTS WERE MADE WITHOUT SEEING ME ON THE BICYCLE OR EVEN TRYING TO HOLD THE LEVERS! 3. some snide remarks about my dura ace triple (I must have bought the last one, etc). 4. my custom titanium frame (maybe 4-5 yrs old) was "worn" and I should consider buying a new frame. I had originally planned on coming back within a week to make some purchases for the bike, however, given the comments, I decided to give my business elsewhere. read more

Sharp Bicycle is a great shop. What's nice about Sharp Bicycle is that it's located in a very nice setting with other little shops and restaurants. It's also conveniently near the BART Station. I had the pleasure to chat a little with the lady of the shop and she was kind enough to mention that it is possible to just ride over by bike. If you're a little less inclined to sweat (ahem, for the girls - "glisten" - it is a known fact that girls only glisten, glow, shine, even on occasion sparkle) remember there's always BART or by car ... but why, biking's so much more fun and it tightens your back seat area in time for bikini season. Of course there are more reasons to bike than just melting away some mud on your rocks or shaving off a little bulge you nicely put on during the cold months. Bottom line is biking is enjoyable - food for the soul. Just a thought, there's always the option of purchasing a bike there and ride home, if you don't already own a bike. Sharp Bicycle carries tons of Trek models. I was surprised to see that they also carry Batavus. The Batavus they have on hand, the Personal Bike Delivery in Black is muy nice! The owner mentioned that they can order other models in the Batavus catalog; they have the catalog available so you can take a look. They also sell a small assortment of Basil accessories, which are really cute for the savvy bicycle chic... I do hope to see more girls on bikes (come on ladies, let's ride!). I recommend Sharp Bicycle to anyone looking for good equipment as you're likely to find what you need. They have a ton of bicycle supplies for a shop their size, which is surprising. I'll be going there often, they'll get sick of me and vomit all over themselves when I do. read more

I bought a Trek Domane ebike. Sharp Bicycle was perfect. Interested, helpful, knowledgeable, and the Domane is everything that could be expected. I refer to it as a "pedel assist" rather than what I previously thought ebikes did. This bike rides as a bike, then when I am getting winded on steeper hills I can get a boost. And the assist only operates when I am peddling so not an issue about the bike having a mind of its own and getting the rider in trouble. Great bike and Sharp Bicycle also a great place to buy and have the bike serviced. read more

I have given this bike shop multiple chances- it is super convenient from where we live, so I frequently stop by for quick tune-ups for our bikes, or if we need new tubes in our stroller tires. The two gentlemen (I'm assuming the owners) who are always there are often mildly condescending and moderately unfriendly, but I have tolerated it because of the convenience factor. However, I will never go back. I stopped by today with my two young children because both of our stroller tires were flat and I had a one mile walk home. I requested new tubes for the tires, which took approximately three minutes. For this, I was charged the price of the tubes, plus $10 in 'labor'. Fine. Annoying for a local customer and ridiculous for 3 minutes of labor, but not enough to write a negative review on Yelp. The negative review on Yelp comes from the overtly rude man who rang us up (for the $10 labor), and said to my young daughter, who innocently asked what they kept up in the loft, 'that is where we keep children who touch things in this store that they are not supposed to.' Despite having 3 young kids and a lifetime of biking ahead of us, our family won't be back to this store. read more

Poor customer service. The staff were not very friendly or helpful in deciding a Trek Hybrid. I took one out for a test drive. The staff didn't bother to prep the bike, so all the gears were not shifting correctly. I told them the issue and one staff member just smirked at me without saying anything. They didn't seem interested in helping me, so I took my business elsewhere. read more

On a Thursday afternoon and I brought a wheel in for a spoke replacement. Dee looked at the wheel, and told me straight forward..."I will very likely have to order the spoke from Easton". Fine, that happens...I get it. However, I really needed the wheel the following weekend for a long ride, so I made it clear if that was going to be a problem then I was fine to go to Mike's or try another shop. He assured me the order and delivery would be quick and the timeline was sufficient. He suspected they'd have the part by that Tuesday...If there were to be a problem, he'd let me know. Given he had 10 days, what could go wrong? I called him the following Thursday (7 days later) , which is my bad for waiting that long. Obviously the spoke had not arrived. And then, voices carried as I got a bit upset and reminded him that we discussed the timeline. He began with "if you remember", and proceeded to plea a case. I remember well Dee...you said you'd call if there was going to be a problem. Not getting the spoke shipped is a problem, not fixing the wheel in time is also a problem. Left with no choice, I headed in and retrieved my wheel. Mikes in Walnut Creek had it fixed 40 minutes later. Yeah, that's right...40 minutes, no hassle...zero attitude. In 6 years, I've never had a good experience at Sharp, I've always felt the staff condescending and arrogant. There's always a comment about X, and almost always an up sale. I just needed a spoke fixed... It's a quick turn around almost everywhere. If you can't meet my timeline, just let me know up front. This will be my LAST experience at Sharp: The only thing "sharp" about this shop is the sting one feels from their terrible customer service. read more

I'm an avid rec rider of both road and Mountian and I do most of my own work. When I have ever needed work done I've brought my rides here and have always been happy with their service. I bought a left over, last season, mt. Bike a few years back and received good service and a fair price. The frame broke this year for an unknown reason and I took it back to Matt. Matt was great, had a replacement frame at the shop in 8 days which is unheard of for warranty replacement. This is a pricy shop but they carry the higher end stuff so it's justified. Also carry stuff many shops don't. Nice to have a shop like this in the area that isn't a chain store. Thank you Matt and Sharp Bicycle!!! read more

What an incredible experience - I've bought two bikes here now - a hybrid bike and my new road bike - the Trek Emonda S4. They take customer service to a whole new level - they helped me pick out my first road bike and gave me a lot of care and attention in the store - from full bike fittings to recommendations on accessories and free bike maintenance for the next two years. If you love Trek bikes and are looking for white glove customer service, this bike store is definitely for you. read more

First off, I'd like to say an employee working there, Matt, is a terrible businessman with terrible customer service. He was a complete jerk on the phone and is the sole purpose I will never go to that overpriced shop again. My girlfriend bought me a bike lock as a gift for my birthday to find out my bike's gears were broken. When I tried returning the lock two months after its purchase, Matt laughed in my face and directly mocked me for trying to do so, all the while explaining their unreasonable 2 week return policy. Not only does a 2 week return policy prove a complete and utter lack of concern towards customer needs, but Matt's demeanor made the experience of shopping at this bike shop dreadful to say the absolute least. read more

sharp bicycle is an excellent bike shop. i have been a patron of theirs for years and have never been disappointed. the sales people and mechanics are knowledgeable and friendly. they go out of their way to cultivate relationships with their customers. this effort, in my experience, translates into a pleasant, amicable shopping experience. it is too bad that a few first time yelpers have chosen this site as a medium to communicate their anger. i find the poor reviews misrepresentative of sharp bicycle's excellence. unlike "believe m.", i won't tell you where or where not to shop. what i will say is that if you are looking for a family run, local shop that sells quality bikes and gear, it would be your benefit to stop by sharp. read more

I had a great experience here - I am a novice who hasn't had a bike since he was a teenager, and they really helped me choose - they had me test drive 4 differnt bikes on two different days because I am tall, and had me come back a second day when they had another model in a large so I could get a feel for it. They worked with my needs and price range and treated me just like I was buying a 5k Lance Armstrong bike. Very pleasurable experience compared to other shops I have visited. read more

I came in to get my derailleur cables replaced, which they did a great job with, but I'm a little bit unhappy with the price. Not that I don't expect it to be expensive, but the fact that they don't tell me the price of the cable job until after the mechanic snipped the old cables, which forced me to use their service. Other than that, they were nice. Ended up paying $73 for the job read more

I really want to support local like Sharp Bicycle. I'm even prepared to pay a fairly hefty premium over online/big box stores if it helps keep a local source of good advice in business. So, I was predisposed to liking Sharp Bicycle. Unfortunately, the staff at Sharp Bicycles make shopping online a really attractive option. As other people have mentioned in their reviews, unless you look like you could be a professional cyclist the service you get at Sharp Bicycle is likely to be terrible. The staff make it very obvious they don't want to deal with you, either by ignoring you completely or by their condescending attitude when the feel forced into talking to you. Summary: All of the positive comments for Sharp Bicycle are posted by either women or self described 'bike freaks'. So, if you are like me, and are male and have significantly more than 6% body fat then this is probably not the place for you! read more

I always try to patronize local small businesses. However, I do expect the small businesses to be at l east somewhat customer friendly. The people at Sharp as simply obnoxious, arrogant a**holes. I went in there a while ago to buy new cleats for my cycling shoes. Upon paying for them, I asked if they could put the cleats on my shoes (the place was very slow at the time). They said they would have to charge me (a substantial amount) to mount them. It only takes 4 screws for the pair. Since I wanted to go for a ride, and since I didn't want to pay $25, I asked if I could borrow a screwdriver for a couple of minutes. They begrudgingly lent me one, then when I started putting on the cleats the guy started yelling at me. The staff there is elitist, unfriendly, unhelpful, and full of themselves. I go to The Peddler, in San Pablo, instead, even though it is a bit of a drive. They offer great customer service and are very friendly and helpful. read more

I hate to write a bad review, but on this one, I must. This is a couple of years ago, but as far as I know, ownership has not changed. I was wanting a custom built Independent Fabrication touring bike. During the measuring Matt Sharp, proprietor, was clueless as how to use the measuring tools for the order. Once he figured it out, he told me he would fax the order over right away. 3 weeks later, the order had still not been faxed. "Sorry, I've been busy". 2-1/2 months later the frame arrived. I went in to pay the $1900 (minus the $1000, nonrefundable deposit) he had quoted me, only to find out the "new" price is $2050! WTF? He said he had given me a price out of the "old catalog", and the "new price" was $2050. Matt lied to 3 times in 2 and a half months. If you choose to buy from him "Caveat Emptor!" read more

The poor old guys that run this shop are totally out of touch. They have trouble hearing and it seems like a dying store to me. Too bad.

Nonexistent customer service. I went in yesterday about noon to check out their eBikes. There were 4 men in the store. 3 employees and one customer (in his Lycra bike togs). The older guy employee was talking to Lycra man. Younger guy employee was sweeping the floor. Other older guy employee was working on a bike. No one acknowledged me. I wandered around looking at the eBikes and never got asked if I needed help, or could they answer any questions, etc. They could have made a sale. I was pointedly ignored. The employees of Sharp bikes seem to prefer Lycra clad customers. They might deign to acknowledge you if you look like you just came from the Tour de France. Stay away from this place. Go to Hank and Frank bikes down the street. They are super nice and eager to help! read more

when my wife and i moved out, this was one of our first stops. great high end selection, and the owners and staff were very helpful in finding just the right bike (mine had to be custom ordered and they did so at a nice discount off anything i found online). we've been back a few times since to pick up various accessories and to ask questions about local trails and riding routes, and the staff has always been helpful and extremely knowledgeable. thanks sharp! read more

Sharp Bicycles is a place where a grown up can go and feel like they are taken seriously. We needed new bikes, so we wanted a store to show us what had changed in the past ten years. This is the place. So many bikes and all varieties! And, the staff welcomed us, they gave us the time and information we needed, and they didn't make us feel "uncool" because we don't go trail riding or jumping or whatever the kids are all up to these days. We ended up with cruisers and we still felt relevant and like our money was well spent given the time and attention we received. See you on the trails :) read more

In my experience, unless you look like you are a competitive cyclist then you are probably wasting your time trying to buy anything in this shop - the staff will just ignore you! Which is strange given this shop is in Lafayette. A place where people are known to buy expensive bikes just to ride to Peets on a Sunday morning! I dropped in to Sharp Bicycle on a Saturday afternoon to look for a new bike. The shop was fairly busy and after 25 minutes with no one helping me I left. Not a big deal in my mind. The salespeople are entitled to preferentially serve people who they know are there to spend money on high end bikes and accessories. On the other hand, my 2nd visit was mid-week, mid-afternoon. Even though the shop was empty the staff appeared to be prepared to do anything other than serve me - lots of shuffling papers, making phone calls, etc. Eventually someone grudgingly talked to me, showed me one bike and then left me standing and never came back. Not even to ask if I wanted to buy it, let alone show me another or answer some questions. Eventually I re-racked the bike and walked passed staff - both of whom smirked at my discomfort at having been abandoned like that. Sad to see cycling 'enthusiasts' exhibit such disdain for other cyclists just because they are obviously not avid racers. As bike shops go, Sharp's is more likely to drive people into buying SUVs than getting them out of one and onto two wheels! --- As an aside, its probably no coincidence good reviews of Sharp Bicycle are mostly written by self professed 'bike freaks' and females. If you fall into either camp it appears you will probably get decent service! If you are male and have a body fat percentage even approaching double digits......hmmmm, best of luck getting served. read more

Sharps is a great Local Bike Shop (LBS) . Knowledgable staff. Good selection of: parts, tires, accessories and...bikes. For those who complain about prices...sheez. A truly great shop. I've been an avid cyclist for over 40 years. These guys know what they're doing. They're great with advice, have very skilled mechanics, one of whom just did a great job on fixing my road bike, and their product selection is the best I've found in the East Bay. If you're serious about cycling you couldn't find a better shop. I often do my own work on my bikes, but when I can't figure something out I've taken my bikes to them and they've done a great job on them. And though like many people I sometimes shop for parts and clothing online, if you ever need advice Matt and Dee are great for that. I've become more of a fan of this shop's over time so expect to be there more often and on cycling websites less often. Don't quibble about spending a few extra bucks here compared with online dealers - I think you'll find it's well worth it. read more

My local bike Trek shop in Alamo, CA was closed for reason of COVID. An active racer on the road, and dirt, I ride 12,000-14,000 miles a year, race 25-45 times a year, and own a dozen bikes ... at my local bike shop I am a top spend customer. I needed a part for my team bike, Sharp was not particularly helpful and seemed unfamiliar with the online Trek parts access system, I used my phone (in person) to show them the part and got it ordered. I ended up needing a secondary part, called Sharp and was told that they were busy and that I would need to research the part number, and once I had they would place for me. Took me 40 minutes to do the Trek dealers job (no public access to Trek's dealer system) ... I located, but placed the order with a competitor's shop in Walnut Creek. Not a great experience given the service I have received at my home shop in Alamo, and now they're spamming my email. read more
