I highly recommend this place as their fish is so fresh and delicious. Food is really good. Not too much batter on the chips and fish tastes nice and fresh. The fish was also not super greasy which will be easier on my stomach. The fish was also nice and crispy! The coleslaw tasted nice and fresh with a light vinaigrette dressing. I wish the coleslaw had a more creamy sauce. But if u like vinaigrette coleslaw, then u will love this coleslaw. They have a huge menu that i will have to explore sometime. Service was amazing. Super friendly staff and extra tartar sauce was no extra charge! Ambiance was nice and relaxing. There are a few outside benches to provide a nice camp feel. The benches were clean for the most part with maybe a few crumbs but majority of it was clean. Pricing is reasonable and definitely worth the quality. It gets quite busy here but it's definitely worth the wait! The fish & chips were the highlight, freshly battered and fried. I would skip everything else and just get the fish & chips. MY Bf wanted to stop here on the way home from Sechelt. He ordered the full order of Cod and chips with some onion rings. OH MY GOD. It was huge. I'm not used to such generous portions. It came with 4 pieces, fries and a side of coleslaw. The fish was really good. Super moist, not too oily, a good amount of batter. Just classic fish and chips, done right. Also they gave us enough tartar sauce, ketchup, napkins etc. I appreciate that. The fish was so good that It didn't end up being too difficult for me to eat my half;) But I did not need the onion rings. They were a bit too batter-ey for me. My bf seemed to enjoy them though. We came here for fish and chips during our stay on Sunshine Coast. Last time we came here too early in the season and they weren't open yet. You do have to call them ahead of time to order and they have three picnic benches where you can sit and eat. I really enjoyed their fries and the fish was great as well. Also tip, order ahead because pick-up time slots fill up quickly, especially during lunch time! Unfortunately no seating at the site but tons of beautiful parks nearby and we found one 5 minutes away with great picnic tables. The reviews were correct with their portions - they are huge! We definitely didn't need the extra order of fish. The Large Cod fish & chips was more then for 2 people - especially with the fries loaded in the platter too. Crispy, hot, flakey fish with the batter not overly thick and oily. The tartar and ketchup were perfect with it. The fries reminded me of Costco fries, which I love - soft insides and crispy outsides! The coleslaw side was refreshing and delicious, I wish there was more! I tried hard to get food here. Rarely do I need to, especially if I'm only 10mins. away. After reading the reviews I took the advice of calling ahead to order. Just an hour after opening no one picked up the phone. I called a few times and gave up. Since I was so close I just went and when I arrived the young girl (stressed? no smiley face btw) told me it was a 50min wait and I should have called - But I did (and apparently she's the one that takes orders..?) - but it's still a 50min wait if she puts in my order now. So I got fed up and declined since that would have been a waste of my precious vacation morning. I came back another morning, this time calling right when they opened. To be frank, I've docked two stars for the "service." Never have we been anywhere where the teller was as rude as the lady who worked there. Some examples: - They require you to phone in your order right now (not sure why, she takes the order right on the other side of the glass panel anyway and takes payment like any other place does with more than enough talking on her part, but I digress)--we didn't have service and were met with hand waves and eye rolls while she took our order with high irritability - While waiting for our food, a gentleman went to retrieve his order he'd placed on the phone and was met with a, "And who are YOU?" (This was a yell) - Half the guests we watched while waiting were yelled at in one way or another, the other half were regulars and were treated with more kindness We ended up just ordering two fish and chips, despite originally wanting to order more, because of her attitude. (We wanted to take some of the frozen goodies home to enjoy later.) She would snap and be dismissive and it all felt so rushed, even though she literally didn't need to do anything other than take payments and give the orders to the cook. Each thing we said needed to be repeated 3-4 times and she would ask about things we had just told her with painstaking patience. With that being said, the food itself was really good. Was it the best fish and chips I'd had? No, I've had better. The portion sizes are enormous however--much larger than other fish and chip joints for a lower price, so worth it if you're willing to be berated first. We had a long trip back home and weren't able to refrigerate the rest and it was sadly tossed because it was out of the fridge for too long (we couldn't finish it all too heavy on the grease in the breading, but generously meaty on the fish front). Perhaps the lack of a bona fide alternative/comparison restaurant in the area accounts for the extremely high reviews? I typically don't make the misstep of matching high praise with an excellent product, but in this instance I did. I'd grabbed an order of fish & chips from C-Lovers Fish and Chips in Horseshoe Bay while waiting for the ferry as I was on my way back to the Sunshine Coast recently. The fish and chips were utterly fantastic. A few days after my return, I felt drawn to the idea of another visit to the chippy, and noted that Sharkey's had some amazing reviews. I placed my order, and was told that it would be ready in twenty minutes. When I arrived, I noted that Sharkey's had really, really embraced the Covid protocols. Embraced them to such an extreme that it was like being a POW in a North Korean labour camp. The building was heavily garnished in large posters, instructing patrons how to behave. In front of the take-out window, and two meters away, was a prominent white line that one was forbidden to cross. I soon lost my appetite in the face of all this virus zealotry, but was prepared to see things through as my order was already being prepared. I wasn't the only one waiting for their meal, as a large collection of lonely soles milled around the property, anxious not to make eye-contact...or be friendly. It was bizarre, and uncomfortable, and I couldn't wait to get out of this tense and slightly sinister environment. My name was eventually shouted out at the take-out window, and I was happy to pay and be back in on the road again. The food? Like if came out of a large box labeled "Captain High Liner" from the frozen food section of the local IGA. The chips were coated in a thick, heavily salted batter, and again, tasted like they came from the IGA. This place is a joke! We live in Sechelt and have tried to order food there several times. They are supposed to be open until 7pm, yet we went there at 6pm and they informed us they were not taking any more orders. The next time, we called at 4:25pm, we had just got off the ferry and thought we would pickup some fish and chips on the way home. Absolutely amazing fish and chips! We had sockey salmon and halibut with split fries (yam and regular). Delicious!! The batter is just right, crunchy and not too thick; the sockeye and halibut were not overwhelmed at alll. The coleslaw has a unique and tasty flavour and was just right to cleanse the palate. My kids have been craving to go back since our first visit. Portions are generous and I love that you can get half yam half regular fries. The regular fries are coated with sone sort of spice though so rather addictive. Normally at places the fish is the first to go and the chips are filler, here it's almost opposite. We ordered a half order of the cod and chips, and a full order of the halibut and chips. It was a lot of food. Half order of each would have done us just fine. But the food was good so we weren't complaining. It was really tasty, fresh, not oily. The halibut was the star of the show, and was succulent. We always go with the cod, but feel free to have halibut or even salmon. Order the mixed fries (potato and yam) - they are absolutely scrumptious! Bear in mind that this is a takeout place so you'd probably want to bring your own foldable chairs (yes, people actually do that), eat in your car, or pick a sturdy log to sit on while enjoying your food. Completely dissappointed. Bought the salmon Wellington, halibut Wellington, stuffed mushrooms and Coquille St.Jacque. The St.Jacque was blandly seasoned salmon meat and skin that seemed to be put through a food processor then topped with what tasted like instant mashed potatoes. Neither of us could choke it down. Seeing the pieces of slimy salmon skin pieces mixed in convinced me that this was the leftover dish from cleaning and packaging the nice filets. The mushrooms were boring. We ordered and were told it would take 10 minutes. When we arrived 5 minutes late, the old lady that presumably owns/runs the place completely freaked out and yelled at my girlfriend until she cried. Something about not wanting to serve cold food, and us being rude. When I approached the window to try and resolve the issue, the old bag gave me the double bird from the back while refusing to come talk and went on berating her staff member. As far as I can tell she has mental issues, which is fine. But yelling at customers to the point that they are crying is unacceptable. Please do not support this whack as kook. I have eaten a lot of fish and chips through out BC. But I have to be honest, this has to be one of the best fish and chips I ever had. There's only one other spot that can be compared to this, which is the Jiggers in Ucluelet. Each regular size comes with 4-5 pieces of fish, and that's never heard of anywhere in Vancouver. Since I've been here on the coast for nearly three years, with my love of seafood, I'm absolutely astonished that I haven't been to Sharkey's before. One day I had a hankering for fish and chips. It was one of those weeks where five nights of salad for dinner gave way to an incredible craving for something fried. A coworker of mine mentioned Sharkey's Fish Locker. She asked if I had been there. The look on her face when I told her, "No" made me believe I was missing something fantastic. Sharkey's doesn't just sell the best fish and chips I have ever eaten; they also sell many different varieties of fish: frozen, fresh or smoked. It's essentially a partition of a residence where you walk up to the counter, agonize over the list of fish they sell, make up your mind and place your order. Shortly thereafter your name is called and you get your food. If you do get the fish and chips, you cannot eat the food there. Sharkey's is strictly takeout, but you won't mind a bit. I asked for a full order of halibut and chips. The batter is so light and crispy that the mild flavour of the halibut comes through. The fries are lightly coated in a batter before they are fried to crispy perfection. The dish is served with a small side of cole slaw, but not the heavy mayonnaise type. This is different and addicting. Even the tartar sauce is delicious with a hint of dill. You can take some malt vinegar if you choose as well. In addition to the fish and chips, I ordered a small bag of maple smoked sockeye salmon. That bag of fish lasted a whole three minutes. I've had maple smoked fish before that was just too sweet. Sharkey's Fish Locker does it right. This was something special and my mouth waters at the thought of having more. Since Sharkey's Fish Locker has so many different offerings, I can only imagine that I will be going back time and time again to try everything. The fish and chips here are so good that we went twice while we were honeymooning in Halfmoon Bay last month. Honestly the only thing that's not good about this place is that it's over 2700 miles from me. The cod is my favorite as it's super meaty but still flaky and delicious, but the halibut is killer, too. They even have the option of having both fries and yam fries (which I opted for obviously!). There's not really any seating area inside, so I took my food to Roberts Creek beach (5 mins drive away) and had a little picnic. I still can't believe I paid only $9 for this! When you drive up to this building, be aware that it really is a fish locker. Fresh fish was arriving when we pulled in. There was beautiful looking fresh salmon and halibut, if you wanted to pick up something to cook at home. Also salmon quiches and other delectibles. I wasn't at all sure that there was also going to be fish and chips available as it didn't look like somewhere that would have a fryer. Oh yes, best fish I have had in years. The chips were good but the fish is the thing. Next time, I am just going to order the fish. We both had cod and chips. The portions are enormous. Batter was crisp and not overly oily. If I had thought our visit out a little better, I would have taken our food to the beach as the seating is a bit um, rustic. I didn't care. It was the fish that we came for, not fancy tables. Wow. I solely downloaded Yelp to write this review. Really disappointing experience today with a young lady (long brown hair with a braided ponytail) who clearly did not want to serve us. After arriving and realizing there was a phone number to order, we called multiple times and the phone number was out of service. There was another man waiting for his food who told us he had the same problem with the phone, but he was able to order at the counter. After waiting in line and approaching the counter, the young woman was truly draining to experience - consistently telling us the phone WAS working and she couldn't help us. I totally understand that technical difficulties happen and that ordering must be done over the phone, however, the customer service and extreme lack of decency and kindness was pretty unbelievable. Wish I could count how many eye rolls we were given and a complete lack of support on her end. She also said there would be a 50 minute wait, however others in the line (who ordered from the counter) said they only waited 15. Really seemed as though she made up her mind about our group before we even approached the counter. Truly unfortunate to have such a negative experience in a place that has so much potential. The fries were crispy on the outside but nice and soft on the inside and the fish had a nice light batter and was clearly fresh.
