Horseshoe Bay may be a small little hamlet tucked away from the hustle and bustle of metro Vancouver, but in punches way above its weight class, when it comes to fantastic places to eat, or simply grab a drink, as we did. On an unseasonably warm day in May, that quickly became not just hot, but humid, my wife and I sought refuge indoors (well, semi-indoors, anyway), grabbing a sheltered, greenhouse-like booth in the back garden of Olive & Anchor, ordered a round of drinks, and sat soaking in the atmosphere of this charming restaurant in a similarly charming village. Quaint, rustic interior and décor; excellent, attentive service; incredible location (and views!); what more can you ask for than that? Well, other than some olives on the menu, perhaps....

Olive & Anchor is definitely the best spot for lunch or dinner @ Horseshoe Bay! Got here midday & made a dinner reservation just before boarding the ferry over to Bowen Island. Anyone remember Jesse Martin from Law & Order!? Well he was strolling around Bowen Island & got to chat with him! Very cool dude! He's shooting on - The Flash - in Vancouver. Ran into him just before we came back to Horseshoe Bay for dinner after a 3 hour stroll around the central area of the island. BTW, the ferry ride over is only 20mins oneway, just in case you were interested in a short day trip idea. Check out Bowen Island as it makes for a nice escape from the big city! Ok back to the restaurant - it's located on the waterfront with great views of the bay. Makes for an easy 'grab & go' if you're in a hurry to catch the ferry. I highly recommend the Seafood Cioppino - a stew full of flavour & very decent seafood portion (Salmon, cod, Manila clams, prawns, Chilean crab legs, calamari in a white wine tomato broth with a grilled focaccia), & the Korean Hot Stone Bibimbop! For dessert you must order the in-house made - Lemon Ricotta Cheesecake! Excellent!!! It's pricey to eat here but worth it! Make reservations as it gets quite busy here!

Came by for a quick lunch en route to whistler and had to choose between a bunch of places in the bay that boasted the "best" fish and chips. Given the options, we decided to give Olive & Anchor a shot and were extremely pleased with our gamble! The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about every item on their menu! Be sure to keep a look out for specials and you won't regret it!

We found this place by walking by looking for somewhere to eat while we waited for our ferry to come. For an appetizer we ordered the KFC ( Korean fried chicken ) my husband's Korean so he was interested to try it. They weren't bad! Nice and crispy and a bit spicy. I had to order the burger because, it came on a brioche bun. I'm obsessed with brioche... It was really good really juicy patty! My husband ordered the fish & chips and it was good too! Our two friends enjoyed mussles & seafood cioppino. The Mussles broth was really tasty and nice with the fresh focaccia! Waitress was friendly & was definitely making sure our waters were filled which is very important for me!

Olive & Anchor is fav place @Horseshoebay. I like the location and food. The staff is very attentive and service is very good. I am vegetarian and my only concern they have only 1 or 2 vegetarian options. The fish and chips are must try option. The like the Yam Fries. Portions are good. You can go to this place any time .

Poor chips with so much oil. Too small amount of tuna in the salad! The fish is so thin... my worst experience in Canada!

Look. It's just not my kinda place…read more I'm not gonna knock it. I know it's a family business and I know it's been there a million years, so I'm gonna try and be as nice as possible. But, still accurate. Ok..... The House Salad with Chicken. The Chicken was tasty. There was just not enough of it. Especially considering added chicken was $8. Not an Entree size and certainly not filling. The rest of the ingredients were so underwhelming. Barely any beats, a few tomatoes and just a heap of shredded carrots over a bed of greens. So very basic for an $18 salad without the chicken. The 2-piece Cod and Chips. The actual battered fish was nice. But....uhhmmm....I think either some of the fries must've fell off our plate on its way to our table, or someone helped themselves with our fries (see pic.) When a dish is called Fish n Chips. Guess what? The highlight is what? ..........The Fish AAANNNDD The Chips. There you go..... Ok. At this point I was ready to go. So, I went to the ladies room and that's where the horror started. It was beyond filthy. I'm talking about the floor, the toilet, the door....on and on.... Ran out. Settled the bill. Grabbed my Purse and left Trolls behind never to return. I do wish you the very best though.

The building is definitely on the older side. Lots of wood trim. Reminds me of an old dock. The seating area is L shaped, and largely fits around the outer edge of the building (the restaurant is on a corner lot). Great view of the park and water. Staff are friendly and cheerful. As my friends and I were only here for a beer, I can't comment on the food. Pricing looked pretty reasonable, and I've heard good things about this place from friends. Guess I'm coming back at some point.

They have some bar-height tables made out of some barrels - I would not sit here. Service Quality: Staff was attentive and knew the menu well. They recommend getting a wide variety of dishes since it is tapas. Menu Variety: Great selection of spanish tapas. There's fish, meat, seafood, veggies - there is something for everyone. You won't find the lesser known tapas here - just the main popular ones we all know. Food Presentation: Simple, nothing crazy here. Plated with intention. Food Taste and Quality: Food came to the table hot and fresh out of the kitchen. Some of the patatas bravas were a bit undercooked - for me there was a bit too much sauce here. They also have the shishito peppers here - even though 1 out of 10 are spicy, it was more like 5 out of 10 were spicy. Luckily they were all grilled to perfection. The cod fritters were great, would order again. Portion Sizes: You'll need to order at least 5 dishes for a table of 2. Drink Selection: Simple cocktail menu with a spanish twist to them - if you really want to call it a "spanish cocktail". Price and Value: Good value for money, priced just right. Overall Experience and Recommendation: Make sure you make a reservation cause if not you'll be waiting and by the time you look for another restaurant for dinner - everything will be closed (cause its Bowen Island). I tried it, I would try the other restaurants on the island first before coming back.

Spanish tapas style, we ordered about 6 dishes and bread and we were pretty full. Also sangria.
