I was a little nervous at first as I've never done any dance related workouts before, but every instructor is super helpful and each class has been an awesome workout. I'm getting better access to muscle groups I've been trying to get ahold of for years and I'm definitely noticing a difference in my overall structural connection. Dancers Shape is a wonderful barre studio. Jennifer, the owner, and the entire staff are great. I have been attending classes there for about two years, and recently fractured my ankle. Jennifer went through the entire workout, modified each set of exercises, typed it up for me, and met with me before class to teach me the modifications. She even talked with one of the other instructors I was going to workout with to run her through my routine. Amazing! After my first Dancers Shape class, I was immediately hooked. As a frugal college student I look for as many deals as I can get and Dancers Shape offers student discounts that are more affordable than other studios in town. When I arrived for my first class, I was warmly welcomed and given a full tour of the studio. I was also given a quick rundown of how each class works and how I should prepare. After class, the owner of the studio, Jennifer, came over to me and introduced herself. She was very friendly and I appreciated her taking the time to chat with me and get to know me a little better. I have taken many barre, pilates and yoga classes in Austin but Dancers Shape is by far the best workout I've experienced. The classes combine all of the amazing burn and shaking of a barre class with the stretching of yoga and agility and strength of pilates. The classes are challenging, but I never felt uncomfortable or strained. I've tried a variety of different classes and each instructor has been consistently impressive and inspiring. I take a lot of spin classes for cardio and I tend to forget about my core and hamstring strength and stretching. I agree completely with the previous comments...what else could I add?? I'm only 21 years old, but in the past two years I have been really really into fitness and health! I picked up running and am now training for a marathon. I have built endurance through my runs...but I have been looking for something more besides pure Cardio. I'm one of those people that attempts some weights at the gym, a couple of lunges here and there, maybe some abs once a week. But, I have eventually realized that I needed an actual class to push me one step further. I love Yoga, particularly at Black Swan! Yoga is yoga though, and even though It's a relaxing and toning experience...I say Barre takes it one step further! I tried a couple of classes at Barre3 and I enjoyed it but I think Dancers Shape gives an overall better experience. All the instructors are extremely knowledge. The studio is really personal--instructors know your name and sometimes compliment you in class and call out adjustments...they really do want you to get the best out of the workout! The classes are fun, music is upbeat...I mean, prepare to sweat! Everything will be BURNING, but you have to stick it through. You get out of it as much as you put in, but expect to be for sure sore the next day no matter what (at least for the first couple of classes). The small movements go a long long way. You REALLY do see your body changing...and I assure you that you will work out every muscle group. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! I highly recommend it. read more

I have taken about 10 classes from Dancer's shape over the past few weeks on the new client special (unimited classes for 1 month for $100) and have never felt stronger. I can't believe the difference I feel in my legs, arms, and butt and in muscles I never knew existed. It is so motivating and makes me really want to stick with it. They also offer a really nice vinyasa yoga class on Tuesdays which is a great compliment to the other classes. I have been taking the graceful classes with Jennifer, Touissant, Mariclaire, and yoga with Michelle, and I just love them all. They are so motivating, encouraging, friendly, and helpful. I also love that I see some of the teachers in the classes as well. Dancers shape is such a supportive environment and it really feels like a little community when you go in. I always feel welcome, and the teachers know you by name. We are so lucky to have this little gem in the neighborhood! It's my new favorite thing! I had been wanting to work out for a while and somehow came across barre. I came here based on all the reviews and because it was walking distance from where I lived, and I've been going at least once or twice a week since June. I feel so much stronger now, everyone who works here is super nice and accommodating, and the facility is modern and clean. I mainly stick with the "beginner" class, Graceful - but I put quotes around beginner because it's still a heck of a workout! Keep in mind I haven't worked out in years before I started coming here, though. If you're in a similar boat, be prepared to feel the shake and burn for the first few classes. But it's so worth it the more you keep up! I've done the Shape class a few times as well and Graceful is pretty much on par with it, although a little slower paced I guess. Vinyasa yoga is also great, but not really my thing. Definitely take advantage of the new member deals! read more

I really like Dancers Shape. Pros: -Very nice studio space. 2 spacious studios with nice floors and big mirrors to help you monitor your form. -Classes are never overcrowded. So nice to not have to worry about flailing arms/legs in your neighbor's face. -Plenty of classes per day. -Really nice staff. These ladies are statuesque, graceful, and kind. They are energetic and patient, and will work with you if you need to modify. -Nice equipment including thick mats and towels to mop your sweaty face. -Mix of ages/body types/fitness levels more than at many barre studios. Cons: These are all personal preferences and not anything Dancers Shape is doing "wrong", so take with a grain of salt. -It's a bare-foot class and even though we clean the mats afterwards, I'm a little schkeeved out putting my face where other peoples' feet were. I think a lot of students give their mats a very cursory wipe because my towel is usually grimey after I scrub mine. And I am not a very grimey person. :) -It is easy to "cheat" in barre. That is, if you are not very strong yet, or if you do not understand exactly how to do the movement, you will get a workout that is hard... but if you DO understand how to do it you will get a workout that is oh-my-god-what-is-that-muscle-and-why-have-I-never-in-my-life-been-aware-of-it-before hard. To get there you really need (or at least I do) someone to monitor and correct your form, often by physically re-positioning you and helping you through a few reps. Most of the Dancers Shape instructors do not do this very much. I am going to try a couple of of other barre studios in town to find one that fits me best. I may very well end up back at Dancers Shape because of the convenient location and the dynamite staff. read more

Dancers Shape is fantastic! I have been searching for the right type of fitness routine for me for over 10 years. I ran marathons for several year and then moved onto CrossFit. Neither really left me feeling as healthy and happy as the Dancers Shape classes. I have zero dance or gymnastics background and find the classes challenging and fun. If you are not a dancer, don't let the name intimidate you. And besides, before too long you will start to look more statuesque and lean. I've been attending classes now for over a year and have honestly never looked better. I can also attest to the amazing core, back, and leg strength from the Shape, Sport and the new Athletic Conditioning classes. My clothes fit better and I feel great! I hope this place never closes. The instruction and level of attention given to students is just not the same though. About three months ago, I decided to try Dancers Shape classes in order to break up my training rut. With my 45th birthday approaching and my body cruelly betraying me, I was hoping to find a new exercise regime. I've been working out for many years but I'm in dire need of a something new to whip my flabby backside and lower body into shape. At a 10 pound than higher normal baseline and fat seemingly growing exponentially in places I never imagined it would take hold, I've been desperate to find a work-out routine that could change my body. Having previously gone through rehab for degenerative disc disease, I also knew that I had to find an exercise program that's not too vigorous or involves too much compression. Dancers Shape is definitely the answer I was looking for!!!! It largely focuses on the core and lower body, especially the hips and butt which is exactly where I need help. Don't most women? Maybe not but I sure do! My upper body has definitely become toned and stronger, especially my shoulders which I must having been ignoring previously. While I don't think I've shed any pounds (and this is definitely my fault: pounds in = pounds out), I have definitely lost fat in my legs and core and my butt is perkier. My body has changed significantly for the better! I've even noticed a difference in my face which looks thinner. My husband has commented on the positive changes and has said that these classes have changed my body more than any other exercise regime I've tried. These changes started taking place within the first several weeks. If you stick to this regime and go at least three days a week, I believe you will see very encouraging changes quickly. The huge bonus is that I have not had any issues with my lower back. The staff is really great about asking about if you've had any previous injuries and providing proper modifications. Speaking of the staff, they are TREMENDOUS, inspiring, professional, encouraging, kind, focused, knowledgeable and enviable (talk about great bodies). I've also met a lot of great ladies in my classes! Everyone is very friendly and supportive of each other. We need to be!These classes are tough and they don't seem to get easier. Once you've tackled Grace, you can move on to Shape and then try Advanced. If you like to dance, Groove might be your thing. I recently started taking the Sport classes which I really like. The Sports class has more cardio and really helps you work up a sweat and no doubt burn calories. Dancers Shape offers a lot of classes at convenient times and is very reasonably priced with lots of different pricing options. I cannot say enough good things about Dancers Shape. I had the opportunity to try out several classes with a friend and I was so incredibly impressed. I was hoping to get toned for spring break as it is coming up soon, and these classes are doing just that. All of the teachers made it a priority to come up to me and welcome me to the class and walk me through the fundamentals of the class. Each class I attended was challenging but all of the teachers made sure there were different levels of intensity so you didn't find yourself pushing too hard. I can't wait to keep coming to classes and that's saying something as I don't often find myself in love with workouts. I get bored very easily with the same classes but they have a variety of classes and each one is fast paced and fun. I have recommended Dancers Shape to all of my friends and the ones that have attended with me have adored it as well. It's a must try! read more

So I'm a theatre and dance major at UT and one of my friends told me about this new studio, Dancer's Shape, that would give classes based on dance techique in order to workout and gain strength. I thought I could handle a class without my legs feeling like jelly or something since I had been dancing almost every single day. Didn't happen. But I felt so fullfilled. I was proud of myself for getting through it and watched the rest of the class go through every single exercise without stopping because they had been continuous in their attendence. And I though, "I want to be like them." It was my first class and it was great. I finished it with a big smile on my face, knowing that I would be feeling the workout the next day, and sure that I would be coming back. They have several different classes to offer depending on what you're looking for and the owner, Jennifer, is the nicest person and really helps you throughout the class. She talks you through it, corrects your positions, and is there after class to ask how you feel. I don't know what else I can say about Dancer's Shape except that...It's awesome. :) read more

This workout is a very challenging combination of strength training, ballet influenced postures and balancing, cardio and stretching. It truly burned the muscles I feel need the most work and when weak cause the most day to day pain (I.e., back, shoulders and hips). The music was perfect for the fast pace and Kari was helpful in correcting movements and posture. Fantastic workout! The studio is very tastefully decorated and very modern a chic. When I attended my first class 2 months ago I was looking for something different to add to my workout routine and Dancers Shape did not disappoint. I've been going to the coed classes for about 8 months, and these workouts plus the new athletic conditioning and core classes have been fantastic cross-training for me as a male triathlete. Dancers Shape is absolutely fabulous. My friend introduced me back in April and I've never wanted to stop going to the Shape and Yoga classes. I love the instructors; they're so energetic and involved, lots of encouragement. We get to work at our own pace (even though the class is pretty high pace) and take breaks when we feel we need to. To call it another Barre studio really doesn't do it justice since it has a wide variety of classes (Barre at many levels, Yoga, Dance, etc).
