I went for a ride on the motorcycle down Illinois 2 and got a wee bit hungry. Having passed the…read moreRoadhouse many times in the past I decided that is where I was going to stop. I'm glad I did! The interior of the building is decorated in a western style, stage coach stop theme. Mainly because if you read the local history on the menu, the building used to be a "Roadhouse" where the stage coach stopped. I found the atmosphere very different for the area and really relaxing. When I was there it wasn't too busy, so I sat at the bar. The owner was there and I was able to chat him up some. He has an interest in a local cold case from 1948 that I also follow. He was a great guy to chat up, extremely friendly. The food here is pretty good. I ordered The Blue Barrel. Basically a bacon cheese burger with hot bleu cheese on it. Per the menu it suggested I put A1 on it per the chef, so I ordered it that way. Man was that good. Huge patty too and it was cooked just right! I really enjoyed the burger. The service was a little off. The lady working the bar would disappear and I would have to ask for things or try to find her. Not a huge selling point especially when there were only a couple of people in the place at the time. I really have to say that I liked this place a lot. I loved the atmosphere, the servers, the owner, the food. It was great. I will definitely be back.

I hadn't been to this place in probably 15 yrs. To be honest I tend to forget about it sometimes…read morebecause our hours just don't mesh. But I stopped in one night recently and dropped $20.00 in the slots. I doubled my money cashed out and headed home. Unfortunately in the meantime I also dropped $200 on my chair and didn't notice until much later. I called the next night thinking no way is anyone going to admit they found $200 cash BUT..Huge shout out to Mike (apparently the owner I had no idea) for putting it in an envelope with my description and being kind enough and most importantly HONEST! enough to return it.

Maxson's Pride of Oregon, a paddle wheel boat, is truly a hidden gem. The friendly crew described…read moreits history--built in 1989 as a replica of the Rosie O'Shea paddlewheeler. A portion of its journey from the shipyard to the Rock River was actually made overland. The interior of the main deck is appointed with attractive woodwork, and there is a bar. The upper deck is open air. Ample seating is provided. This was a lunch cruise and our group was seated and served upon our 11 AM boarding. The quality of the food (catered by Maxson) and service exceeded our expectations. We began with rolls and a generous tossed salad with Italian dressing. Our entrée choices were beef bordelaise, fried catfish, and a vegetarian plate. The fork-tender beef was cloaked in a red wine sauce and the fish, though heavy on the crust, tasted fresh and was greaseless. Our sides were fresh steamed veggies and a twice-baked potato. Chocolate cake was served for dessert. There were pitchers of lemonade and water on the table, and coffee and tea were offered. Our leisurely cruise upriver lasted two hours and ended at 1:30. Travel is limited to a 7-mile-long navigable stretch of the Rock River. Narration was provided at various points of interest. We spotted at least two bald eagles onshore. Just delightful!

Horrible buffet never again! I can see now why only 4 people were there for lunch! Too bad nice…read morevenue
