They don't seem to be hitting at a lot of them today though. Glad to see they still allow smoking. We avoid the no smoking casinos. Breakfast buffet Saturday and Sunday mornings from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. A little disappointed there, it's a smaller buffet. The biscuits and gravy were good as well as the French toast. Scrambled eggs, well you can't really mess those up. Ham, sausage, bacon, etc. Some sort of cheesy hashbrown's.....those were a fail, unfortunately. Very basic buffet, all self serve. Drinks are sealed containers of orange juice, apple juice, milk, etc. The workers and staff were friendly. Again, it's about the same as any Midwest casino. Better selection of slots, they have some that other casinos have taken out. That's a plus for us.

Walked in and clearly this is a local hotspot for regulars. We were there on a Sunday(around 10:30am). Gentleman in front of us had the paper and was acknowledged by one of the waitresses to sit at the 2nd blue booth and she would be right with him. Gotta hometown feel. We were seated by an older gentleman (didn't realized he worked there. Looked like a customer). He mumbled "follow me". No "hi" "good morning" Strange but ok. Waiter was also not very talkative. Some might dislike this service or not. I don't really mind. I'm there for food, not chit chat. Coffee, diet pepsi and water. Coffee was real good. International Delight creamer cups already on the table for convenience. Water more than likely was filtered and not straight city water(at least it tasted good to me). I got biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs (over easy). Impressive serving. 2 biscuits cut in half, smothered in sausage peppered gravy. Biscuits we good. Nothing fancy to say about those. Gravy was creamy and plenty of sausage throughout. Perhaps too peppery for my liking but I was able to finish the plate. (Did I mention we were hangry?). Eggs were ok(we are use to farm fresh). Over easy like I ordered. Boyfriend requested House Skillet with choice of toast for side. Imagine a garden, then toss some hash browns in, meats and slap on 2 eggs! All the things in this skillet. Mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomatoes, ham, bacon, sausage, hash browns, cheese-all topped with 2 over easy eggs! Hefty portion! He was happy with it. Not "bangin" but great taste. For the quick decision of stopping here, we were happy. Service was speedy. Just not service with a smile. Perhaps Sundays are their busiest days. Oh forgot to mention! Cheap! Large portions- ain't leavin hungry for a penny pincher!

Smaller salads which is fine, but the honey mustard dressing was skimpy and not best. No bread served with the salad or even salad crackers. My wife had a hamburger and I had a patty melt. Both appeared to be preformed hamburger patties. You can pretty much tell, same shape, not much taste or flavor. My wife said hers was dried out. We go for the diners that use fresh ground beef, hand made. We ate maybe half of each. The fries and onion rings were good, but difficult to justify at +$30 for both meals. Doubtful that we would try much else here for lunch but the breakfast is very good.

The kitchen consistently does a fantastic job, and I've never had a complaint about the quality of the meals. Unfortunately, the service has steadily gone downhill over the past 6-7 years. The bartenders are very unfriendly, sometimes outright rude, and many don't seem to have much experience mixing drinks. Politeness and a smile never hurts in the customer service industry especially if you are the first person customers see when entering your establishment. We come in about every two weeks if not more and the past few years it feels like there's a different bartender every time which makes it difficult to build any familiarity or feel welcomed as a regular customer. There used to be the same two or three girls every weekend but now it seems 10 more have been unnecessarily added. High turnover is noticeable, and it definitely affects the overall experience. One thing many of us longtime customers have noticed is that the atmosphere doesn't feel the same as it did when more family members seemed to be involved in running the business. It used to have a warm, welcoming feel that made people want to return. Now, that sense of hospitality seems to be missing. And good luck finding anyone with the last name Kalmes outside the kitchen. I genuinely want to see this restaurant succeed. The food is outstanding and deserves the loyal customer base it has built over the years. The Kalmes family in general is an amazing family and they deserve to continue their hometown legacy. However, exceptional food can only make up for poor service for so long. I believe they could benefit from reevaluating the front-of-house staff, investing in better training, and placing a greater emphasis on friendly, consistent customer service. I've waited a long time before posting this because I hoped things would improve and I also wanted to gather opinions from my fellow diners, as expected many of them agree with my sentiments. Unfortunately, after my most recent visit a 3 weeks ago, I experienced the same issues yet again--a new bartender who struggled to make basic drinks and wasn't particularly welcoming. It's disappointing because this restaurant has so much potential. I sincerely hope they can address these concerns, because I'd love to see it become the place it used to be!
