A portion of its journey from the shipyard to the Rock River was actually made overland. The interior of the main deck is appointed with attractive woodwork, and there is a bar. The upper deck is open air. Ample seating is provided. This was a lunch cruise and our group was seated and served upon our 11 AM boarding. The quality of the food (catered by Maxson) and service exceeded our expectations. We began with rolls and a generous tossed salad with Italian dressing. Our entrée choices were beef bordelaise, fried catfish, and a vegetarian plate. The fork-tender beef was cloaked in a red wine sauce and the fish, though heavy on the crust, tasted fresh and was greaseless. Our sides were fresh steamed veggies and a twice-baked potato. Chocolate cake was served for dessert. There were pitchers of lemonade and water on the table, and coffee and tea were offered. Our leisurely cruise upriver lasted two hours and ended at 1:30. Travel is limited to a 7-mile-long navigable stretch of the Rock River. Narration was provided at various points of interest. We spotted at least two bald eagles onshore. Just delightful!

The biscuits were kind of hard on the edges, bacon was soggy and the eggs were pretty runny. The other food was decent and there was plenty of it. Just certain things like the bread pudding in the dessert area was well beyond the time it needed to be out. I put a spoon into it, and it was no longer soft and moist like you'd expect, so I didn't even scoop it out. For what you get there, $49 for two people is maybe a little much. Some things were good, like the crab cakes, but other things like the pizza seemed like store bought. We may try it again if we're there. Just not super impressed with it. Edit: we went back today (albeit earlier than last time) and the food was much better. I guess timing is everything. It wasn't very busy this morning (maybe everyone was still at church?) so the person clearing tables and getting drinks was very attentive. So I'd have to give them another star for that.

We were out in the morning and decided to find a…read morebreakfast spot and we happened to be driving down Perryville Rd in Rockford and seen the Golden Corral so we stopped in here. It's changed a bit since the last time we were here. Now, we pour our own drinks. I have no problem with this. They should have done this from the beginning. It was breakfast time on a Sunday so the drinks are included in the price of your meal. We paid, got to our table and everything was nice and clean. We went up for our food and it was about 10:45 or so and they started to transition from breakfast to lunch. First thing I seen was the cook grilling steak. It looked and smelled awesome! I asked for a piece of steak rare. The cook told me he couldn't give me any until 11:00. I thought that was a little strange. They used to have steak for breakfast, but whatever. So I was off looking at what else I could have. They just brought out freshly made fried chicken. I love Golden Corrals fried chicken. I like the legs and my wife likes the thighs. The chicken did not disappoint. After the chicken, I seen they had some freshly grilled jalapeños. I made myself a soft shell taco and had a nice jalapeño to go with it. I was already pretty full but I made one last round and seen they just put out some fresh jumbo fried shrimp and fish. These items again were great. I was done at this point, but looking at other items, everything looked wonderful. There was a pretty big crowd so they were constantly bringing out fresh food. As long as you go to a buffet at a busier time, you will always be guaranteed fresh food. I know it shouldn't matter what time you show up, you should always have fresh food for your hard earned money. But this is what you get at a buffet. Anyway, we had a great experience this time at the Golden Corral in Rockford. I forgot to say, our server was great also. She was there collecting plates and making sure everything was good.
