This is a decent Asian restaurant in Weston. I'm Chinese and I find the food here pretty delicious, granted it's not the most authentic. Loved the tofu appetizer and the shrimp pad Thai. The flavors are great and the ingredients are very fresh! Read good reviews about the sushi so that's my next order. Overall, great service, delicious food and reasonably price. Recommend! read more

I'm sick and I can't keep much solid food down. I have actually ordered their food for years with the same nice lady always kind. But recently I have probably purchased more soup from them than all of Weston and Wausau combined! I can only eat their egg drop soup. I unleashed a beast in my husband because now when I order my soups to get me through a couple of days he has to have his new favorite soups. Seafood for 2 and I think hot and sour. It came with white rice instead of fried and was bland. Since moving to Weston this summer I have spent $425.00 here. I received an order of shrimp that was too far gone to eat. They didn't care. No refund. I love egg foo young but am leary of trying their offerings. I finally broke down and ordered and I was surprised to find 3 large patties cooked just the way I like them! The down side is the steamed rice. They gave me the smallest container that was not even filled to the top so I had cooked rice so we'd have enough. A few weeks later I ordered again and made a comment that the super small container of rice is not enough for 3 large patties. Within minutes I got a call from an employee saying that's the amount of rice they give is how they've been doing it for years. Basically I feel they do this on purpose to get you to buy rice at $4.00 an order. I told her what to do with that small container of rice and cancelled my order. read more

I've seen this place since we moved nearby 3 year's ago. But was alway put off a bit because of the sushi portion on the sign. Ignore it. Great menu, lots of choices. Many I'm sure I'll be trying. The best fresh made wantons I've had in a very long time. Nearly a meal by themselves. Sesamee chicken and the Sweet /sour chicken we had tastes great and with the portions get a rice to go and you'll have a great lunch the next day. we'll be back soon. Plenty of clean warm seating. Went to Shanghai Grill for the buffet. $6.95 on a Sunday afternoon, the price wasn't bad. Ambience is nice. There were plenty of parking and seating. The food selection was limited. White rice, fried rice, tempura, California rolls, soups, Lo mien, a beef stir fry, two chicken stir fries, a salad bar, cold shrimp, and potato fries. There were only two different kind of cakes but 6 kinds of ice cream to choose from. Fruit selection was also limited. The quality of food is superior than most Chinese buffets in the area. I took a star off because they don't replace the food when it's empty. But for the price, the cleanliness, and the attentive servers, I will return. read more

I loved ordering online and doing pick up. So so easy. We enjoyed the appetizer for 2 with egg rolls, wontons, chicken wings, etc. A meal all of its own. The GOO Mai Pan was good but bland. We had to use our own seasoning to get it to have a better flavor. Everything was cool when getting back home. We live 5 minutes away. I got there and it was just coming out of the kitchen. Okay, I've been putting off this review for far too long. I want to scream from the mountains about how dope Shanghai Grill is. My fat ass can comfortably order food from the couch any time I want to without even having to communicate with another human person since you can just order online. The sushi is top notch, the eggrolls are dank, and the rangoons never fail to stimulate my taste buds in a sexual manner. I've never actually been in the physical building because I hate any and all human contact but I imagine it being an absolute delight. read more

Horrible service...I decided to try this restaurant. The ambiance felt like driving through a BLM street protest, very uncomfortable. The staff walked around and acted like they were heading to death row. They were not friendly, they were as lively as dead fish. They served the edamame and seaweed salad at the same time as the sushi. No one ever asked us if we needed anything after they served us, even though they walked by several times. The staff acted like they wanted to be anywhere besides doing their job. I have had bad service before, but never felt the need until now to leave a review. I'm pretty sure that every time I'm about to review a buffet, I start by saying I don't really care for buffets or something along those lines and it's true, but I do seem to end up at them often. I'm really a secret buffet fan - fine. This place is frickin' spectacular. It is $6.95 for a truly glorious Chinese buffet. Stuff goes fast and is replaced fast - just how it should be. The lo mein, the crispy pork, the tempura, the garlic chicken and so much more was outstanding. The egg foo young wasn't great and the tea smoked chicken was a bit dry.. but even those lows of the offerings were still good. Instead of your typical vanilla, twist or chocolate soft serve - they have a chest of six Blue Bunny ice screams to scoop yourself! Whaaaaat!? Awesome, yeah? Except if you're deathly allergic to pineapple as I am and you don't want to take a chance and use the shared scoopers which all hang out together in a co-mingled ice cream water bath... Service was sweet, food was delicious, price was insanely good and it was clean as can be. We'll be back many many times. read more

A mixed bag for me. Based on several coworker's recommendations, I tried out their honey chicken and bourbon chicken, and they were fantastic! I thought I had found my fav Chinese place in the nearby Wausau area. Then I tried their combination lo mein, combination pad thai, sesame chicken, and orange chicken (not in the same sitting, and my stomach is still thanking me for that), all of them were disappointing. The combination lo mein was salty, had a greasy texture with very little meat (in comparison to other Chinese restaurants in the area). The Pad Thai noodles were cut up into 1'' pieces that made using chopsticks difficult, and the flavor was one dimension: sweet. The sesame chicken sauce was stale and unsweet. And the orange chicken had a very sour taste to it, with no sweetness that I typically expect. May try their Japanese menu items next, but definitely sticking to the honey/bourbon chicken and nothing else. read more

This is a tough one, because Shanghai Grill is a much needed establishment on the corner of Schofield Ave. and Camp Phillips. But, while the place is nice and the food is alright, the service can be downright bad. First the good... they have a nice selection of different types of Asian foods, Korean, sushi and Chinese, and generally they do it well. The Korean Barbecue is great... and was the sushi I had. The disappointment was the very inattentive, careless and inept concern for your customers. I don't think every server at Shanghai Grill is the same way. because if it had been that way, I would have heard more complaints. Just be forewarned.... otherwise you should like it. If you want to be sure that your dinner or lunch won't be ruined, head up the street to Chang Garden Weston. read more

I am staying at the Holiday Inn Express (very nice, clean hotel if anyone's looking) up the street from this place and needed someplace new to try. There's not a lot of restaurants close by, aside from Chang Garden which is across the street. Another guest and I were making small talk in the hotel lobby and she recommended Shanghai Grill, since I've already tried Chang Garden and loved it. I honestly don't know what all the positive reviewers see in this place? Their lo-mein was probably some of the worst I've ever had and the service was inattentive and slow. I was here for lunch but did not have the buffet. I was however sitting close enough to see the lunch buffet and even that seemed to be lacking in variety and I barely saw them refill it. I didn't try the sushi this trip, I was saving it for my next trip but I don't think that there will be a next trip after this experience. read more

The more my wife and I go back the more we like the Shanghai Grill. The gyoza are very good to excellent. We have tried a variety of dishes including sushi and judge the quality to be consistently very good. I think that their Kim Chi is very good - excellent. Their Korean menu is limited. My family LOVES the Shanghai Grill!!!! I'm not a sushi person myself (my husband is) He loves their sushi. I have tried their Laney Roll and it is honestly SUPER!! I don't eat sushi but I WILL eat their Laney Roll (smoked salmon, cream cheese, with some sorta wonderful sauce with a little kick on top .. topped with some crab meat) We usually go on Friday or Saturday night for dinner and its never FULLY packed... Place is spotless clean!!!! Staff is SUPER FRIENDLY and the food is just amazing. My family has yet to have a meal that I haven't enjoyed there!! Prices are GREAT.. Me, My Husband & Step daughter all eat for under $50 (and that usually includes 3 trays of sushi & our entree's!!!!) :) read more

I have ordered delivery from Shanghai several times, and have yet to receive the correct order. On this occasion my co-workers and I ordered 3 lunch platters. On the online menu it states that ALL lunch plates come with fried rice, lo mein noodles, and 2 crab Rangoon. Upon receiving our order only one of the lunch plates came with these items. When the restaurant was contacted the owner Loni was very rude, as she usually is on the phone and would not rectify the order, she stated that the kitchen wrote down the order wrong and we got bigger portions than what we paid for-and the only way to get the lunch plates was to not touch the food we already started eating and they would exchange it. We ordered the lunch portions because of the sides that came with it. Poor customer service and mediocre food. I will not give them anymore of my service. read more

The only positive about this place is it is VERY vegetarian friendly. Like most chinese/japanese restaurants in the area, they offer tofu, but they also offer mock dock (flavored seitan) and tempeh. This is a step forward for the Wausau area, that's for sure! I'm a vegan, and enjoy going here for dinners with friends because I have a ton of different options to order from. Usually in the Wausau area, everything is loaded with cheese and meat. Not the case here! The vegetarian sushi was really tiny compared to other places. The service was not so up to par. The wait-staff seem very inexperienced and immature. They don't really give a damn about the customer, and couldn't answer basic questions about the menu. Overall, it's a pretty decent place for Wausau. If this place was in a bigger city though, I would easily pick other venues instead. read more

I ordered Kung Pao Chicken with pea pods and bamboo shoots, not the cheapo lunch at 6.95, but the more expensive one at 9.95, because I like the Chinese veggies, But I received all carrots, green peppers and celery. Wow. Just...wow. We live in MN and were visiting the family and my parents brought us here for dinner. I got the Honey Chicken and I must say, it is probably the most amazing Chinese food I have ever eaten. It was unbelievably crisp and just the right amount of sweetness. I wish I could have eaten all of it because I know I won't be able to duplicate that crispness with my leftovers at home, but they give you very generous portions! The rest of the party also all really enjoyed their food, and my kids loved their lo-mein. My only complaint is that I wish they had plastic or disposable cups for kids because a glass tumbler isn't safe in the hands of a two-year old, but that's the only thing I can even remotely complain about (and it wasn't that big of a deal). This is one of our favorite places, although the selection is a little smaller than some other buffets, it makes up for it in taste and quality. They change up the items on the buffet so you get to try things that you may not have tried before, I am now a huge fan of walnut shrimp! After years of going for sushi at Chang garden my dad and I decided to try a new place for sushi. We were very pleased! Our next trips will be to Shanghai. Plus we were stuffed, and the bill was a good $25 less than we usually pay. Going to try the buffet sometime, it looked and smelled great! Order takeout they forgot half of my meal which was the sushi, so call and talk to a nice employee, and he did say he was sorry for this, and would have to wait for the driver to get back. So we had to wait 30min to get it, and when I asked if they would offer a free appetizer, for the inconvenience. The manager said that they would not do that. So to me that is just bad business.
