The location as others have mentioned was weird. When we got there the entrance was questionable but luckily there was someone who looked like a worker was outside so she directed us. We sat at the bar but just ordered food. My seat was uncomfortable but my husband said his was good. Not sure if it was just the chair I was in. Service was good. The pad Thai I felt was a bit greasy but still tasted good. The papaya salad came with some extra ingredients which was a pleasant surprise. It was on the more sour side but still good. First time customer. Location is weird to get to the restaurant. You enter through the door and the bar is to your right. There's no waiting area to be seated so you seat yourself. Came with my little family of 3. High chair available. We order the pho 1, house special banh mi sandwhich and spring rolls. The server was friendly and service was good but slow. Which is understandable since there's only one server. We waited 10 mins for appetizers and about roughly another 8 mins for our main dish. The spring roll was really good with the peanut sauce. Very refreshing. I would order it again. Spring roll does contain pork, shrimp, rice noodle, carrots and lettuce. The banh mi sandwich was decent. I personally didn't like the dried pulled jerky pork kinda of mixing in the sandwich. I don't know how else to call it. The pho was good if you like it a little bland but with a touch of flavor. Reasonably decent prices. Overall, great experience and good food. Will def come back again to try their popular dishes. read more

It was very hidden. I was from out of town and just happened to find this place. It set up like a bar and restaurant. I ordered a few dishes and they were ok. Had a wonderful meal. Started with the Bao Buns and they were wonderful. Very tasty and made with very fresh veggies. The Pad See Ew was delicious. We chose the chicken and really enjoyed it. We also ordered the ribeye and really enjoyed the rich and complex sauce complimenting the char on the steak. We got there very early in the evening and had the pleasure of meeting the owner. Found this place as it was the only restaurant in the area that was open late so we placed a carry out. We tried finding the menu and found it on their Facebook. The menu listed steamed catfish and fried tilapia and we tried ordering it but they stated that they don't have those items on the menu anymore. We're not from the area but the location was in the middle of no where. I wasn't able to find a picture of the inside of the restaurant. When we got there we didn't know what to expect, let alone enter. Honestly, I'm glad that we did not dine in. This place is more of a bar and hangout than a restaurant. I cannot stop eating at Newchs. I unfortunately haven't tried much because I am addicted to the pho. I always want to try something new as it all sounds delicious but I can't get past the pho. It's one of the most flavorful I've had and I've had pho all over. With my pho I've ordered the bahn mi, bao buns, and spring rolls. All were very tasty but the bao buns are probably my favorite. We read the Yelp reviews and decided to give it a try, and we're glad we did. We went on a Sunday night in winter, so there were only a few other tables. Very polite service and the food was very tasty and plentiful. We had the bahn mi bao, spring rolls, pho, and chicken curry. Potatoes were slightly undercooked in the curry, but tasted even better reheated the next day. If you're looking to support a non-chain restaurant in the Wausau area, I'd recommend a visit to Newch's. read more

I'm a bit hesitant to tell the truth in this review, as I'm worried that if everyone knows how GOOD the food is here, it will get too busy. But the location is tricky enough, and Newch is such a great guy, I will try to do it justice. I ordered 6 wings from the appetizer menu. The seasoning I tried was the "wet and dry". The large, meaty wings were done to perfection. Others at the bar had bbq which they raved about. They looked marvelous. From the entree menu, I ordered Pad See Ew. Wow! I have eaten this many times before at many other restaurants and food trucks. I wanted to use it as a measuring stick for this first visit. It was served with a small tub of sauce and a lime wedge. I figured I would trust the chef's judgment and use the lime and the magic sauce. And magic it was. Every bite was so delicious. In conclusion, this gem is definitely worth seeking out if you think you want to try some authentic Asian cuisine. I can't wait to return! read more

Picked up some lunch from here on a Saturday after realizing that they had a new location. I had a bahn mi from them when they were at their old location and was sad to see when they closed down. I'm so happy that they have a new space. We ordered the tofu bahn mi, the house bahn mi, and the spring rolls. Heads up that the tofu is fried for the tofu bahn mi. I should have realized this in advance and ordered the chicken bahn mi, but oh well. It was still pretty good, even though it wasn't what I was expecting. The pickled carrots and radishes provided a nice sweetness to offset the spice of the cilantro and jalapenos, although I could have maybe done with some more filling as the bread is quite thick. The house bahn mi was solid. It could have maybe done with a little more filling and a little less bread, but overall it was good flavor. My friend commented that the head cheese was good in the sandwich, but if it falls out on the side its a challenge to eat on its own. We were quite impressed by the size of the spring rolls. They were probably about 7 or 8 inches long! Packed with shrimp, pork, greens, and noodles, we were satisfied. The sauce went well with them. Overall, pretty good food. We waited over 45 minutes for our meals when we decided we needed to go somewhere else. There was a couple that came in after we did and they were served their food and ate and paid their bill and we still hadn't received our food. The appetizers were good that we did get. Have had pandemic takeout from here 7/8 times in the last 6 months. Nearly everything has been very good, but our least favorite was the pork belly dish, as it was a little overdone maybe? A bit dry. The stir fry with pork belly, a different dish, was good. The Pho is a bit different here, as it has a more forward beef flavor, and seems to forego some of the baking spices that I sense in the soup from other places. That said, it is very good. They serve the best fresh (cold) spring rolls that I have ever had! Not a whole lot of atmosphere, and sometimes the TVs are blaring sports, but friendly and efficient service. Decent beer selection as well. A little out of the way, but giving five stars for the best of its class in Wausau. read more
