Dropped by because my wife said they make papaya salad. Yes they do. The Hmong/Laos kind. Not bad Highly recommended

A few years ago, the beloved Pho 76 went under new ownership and the rumors flew that the quality of food went down. I avoided this establishment like COVID, until I was in the area and was hankering a Banh Mi sandwich. The place I normally purchase the sandwiches from was closed due to the long holiday weekend. So I held my breath and took a dive. First off, they painted the walls in such an uninviting color. It was dark. I didn't pay attention because as I walked in, I felt all the eyes who visited the establishment on me as I crossed the dining hall to order "to go." Two banh mi sandwiches and their combo appetizer: two fried egg rolls and a spring roll. The lady behind the counter informed me it would take 30 minutes. Really? I thought to myself but agreed because I would take my time to wander around in the grocery store next door. 25 minutes goes by. My husband goes to check on our order. The lady said they haven't even started on our order. 15 minutes later and we FINALLY get our order. I don't mind waiting for great food however the banh mi bread was stale, the pickled veggies and meat were tasteless, and the ratio of filling to bread, oh man. I couldn't get past the overcooked noodles to the spring roll and lack of veggies. The only edible item were the egg rolls. I can order those again, if I ever return. So disappointed.

This is my first time in the city and the state of Wisconsin. I was elated to find the place! I've been here pretty much daily since I arrived. I LOVE the food here. The pho is legit! Their pho comes in small, medium, large, and extra large bowl. Also enjoyed the spring rolls, noodle salad bowl, and rice dishes. I'll be really sad to not be able to eat here when my travel assignment is done in September.

This place is in the far left corner of a tiny Asian shopping center. I almost missed it because I didn't see it that well from the street. I really wanted to try their pho since they mainly had pho dishes but I had a meeting to run to after, and I have a tendency to spill pho and smell like it afterwards so I went with the safer bet of a vermicelli bowl. I normally also get grilled pork but the server recommended the beef version. I was pleasantly surprised how good the beef was! There were all good pieces of meat. My only wish was that they had way more veggies in the bowl. I'm used to having more carrots and radishes in my vermicelli bowls. This is a hidden gem in a small town!

Decent Vietnamese food, average for a big city but added a star for location. Had the pho, beef vermicelli and appetizer combo. Road construction currently makes it hard to get to.

Went here for lunch on a Saturday and were very surprised to see that there was a crowd at around 2 in the afternoon. They managed to keep steady business the whole while that we were there. The staff was super friendly, although it seemed like they could have used a few more people working. I asked for suggestions for food and input was very helpful and exactly what I wanted. We ordered the shrimp vermicelli, the beef vermicelli, the curry, and spring rolls. The spring rolls were pretty good, especially with the sauce provided, although I would appreciate if there was a vegetarian option for these. The curry is definitely more of a soup than a curry, but still very flavorful. The vermicelli dishes were both quite tasty. I appreciated that I could get the special sauce on the side so that I could choose how much that I wanted to add. I will also note that the shrimp were done perfect, nice grill marks and loaded with flavor. All of the food was also very reasonable, needless to say, we will be back to try more options, especially the pho. Although from looking at other tables, it appears the best way to order this is with a group. Its all a lot of food! I would definitely recommend this place especially because its next to a pretty good grocery store as well. In fact we recommended it as a place to eat for guests who are in town for our wedding. High value and good food, definitely a win in my book.

It is a small hidden restaurant. Don't let it fool you! It is so freaking amazing! Highly recommend!!!

Believe it or not, this was my first time having Pho. When I got my order I quickly googled how to eat it, and was well in on way to a (underscore) DELICIOUS meal. Wow. First up: spring rolls- oh momma these were delicious. And the sauce- on point. Next in line: fresh squeezed lemonade- refreshing and not overly sweet, not overly sour, just right. Lastly: pho. PHO-nominal. See what I did there? Seriously though, awesome broth. Tender noodles. Meat was great. And all for $11. will be going back!

Is this a good place for vegetarians? Many of the pictures show meat in the dishes and numerous reviews have commented on the sizable meat portions. Is there anything on the menu for someone who doesn't eat meat?

We are working on a vegetable pho bowl. We hope to add that to our menu soon.

You can eat way more different items than just pho here. They have everything from laab to Hmong sausage with sticky rice and of course, egg rolls. Ok, food is pretty average however their menu is extensive. The food tastes so, SO much better than the Hmong delis in the same area. Their pepper dip is delicious. Great location; right on South 3rd Avenue where I grew up as a kid. Private parking. The establishment was an old supper club back in my day. Nostalgic. The ambience need some work. Everything is dated and dark. Like a grandparents basement. I was bothered with the group sitting next us. One guy spoke as if his buddies were standing a half block away. Our server was quick on his feet and helpful with the menu. He answered questions promptly and gave us a heads up if an item would be delayed in preparing. So helpful. We didn't have to wait long to get our food. Shorter time than at the local Hmong deli, I can promise you that and the restaurant was half full. Would, and have, returned.

We've visited here a total of 3 times before writing this review. I am not related nor do I know…read morethe owners personally so there is no bias here. What caught my attention was the banh mi sandwiches. I find it difficult to find a decent sandwich in the area. Some has too much watered pickled veggies or there may not be pate in it, so I wanted to try instead of relying on other's review. With that said, I'll get to the point and say the banh mi's are pretty good. It has a nice ratio of veggies to meat and yes, it has pate. The jalapeño is sliced thinly, just like I like it, so I'm able to handle the heat. The baguette is not toasted but it has a nice hard shell and soft inside. The meats, we got a pork one, are seasoned well. The veggies, mainly carrots, were pickled nicely. It's not dripping wet. Now for the pho, it was alright. The broth was cloudy but also seasoned well. The sliced meat did not taste fresh. I've eaten boiled freezer burnt meats before and that's how it tasted like. Not pleasant. The service was fast. I've been here to pick up just sandwiches before and I've waited no more than 10 minutes. We waited about 10 minutes when we did dine in. There were only another couple there so that may be the reason for the quick service. They bring their kids to this establishment? I heard a toddler crying from the back and kitchen area. The bathroom was clean. The decor is simple and minimal. Overall, I will return if I'm in the area. The owners were pleasant and location was easy to find with plenty of parking.

That said, if you have a strict hour lunch, you may want to see if you can call ahead. We were there about 55 min total (actually in the restaurant) which didn't leave us much drive time (but luckily, being just ten min late or so isn't a big deal for either of us) I ordered the Pho and it was pretty good. It wasn't OMG good, but I wouldn't have any issue ordering it again. My friend ordered the chicken curry and said the flavor was good. It's served with a nice amount of rice. The only criticism they had was that it was all dark meat and not necessarily trimmed the best, but this friend prefers white meat, so it wouldn't have been rated perfect for that reason. We got meatballs as well and I really enjoyed those. When we were there, it was pretty busy, but the host was prompt and friendly, the open tables were clean... And that was with staffing seeming short, so they were obviously doing the best they could with service.

All my local friends recommended that I try Basil Cafe. And I did and it was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had in 40 years. I asked a friend if she had tried this cafe and she hadn't. FYI, I called around 7:15 prior to our arrival and asked what time they closed. He said come now since the kitchen closes at 8 and all orders have to be in before then. It was a Friday night, we arrived at the restaurant and were sat immediately. At 7:20ish the restaurant was still busy which we thought was a good sign. Our server greeted us with the menus and walked away. I didn't think anything of it until she returned to take our order. The initial impression was EXTREMELY uninviting and we should have left at that point. Her first words, "you know we close at 8" which we knew and were trying to hurry to be respectful of the chefs. We immediately ordered which was approximately 5 minutes after being sat. She asked if we wanted our food mild or spicy and then walked away. She did bring us water but never refilled until we were almost done with our meals. She even spilled water as she was pouring and not once to she say sorry or clean it up. Our food was delivered promptly by another server who at least had a smile. As we unfolded our napkins to eat, our server dropped the check and requested to flip it over when ready to pay. My guest looked at me in amazement and stated, "Wow we haven't even taken a bite." As we ate our meals, not once did she approach us to ask if we needed anything else or how the food was. I watched her interact with another table and she seemed to attend to their requests. I was in disbelief by the way she handled herself as a server. I just kept thinking, wow I'm actually paying money for this. We were never rude and remained polite even though her service was HORRIBLE. My guest looked at me and said, "I have lived her all my life and have never had this kind of experience at a restaurant." I was so disappointed about my choice of restaurant that I did not even finish my meal. I took maybe 2 bites and was done. Being that I barely touched my meal, most waitress would have asked if it was ok but not our server. "You want that boxed?" I was like "Yes Please" while thinking "hell yes so I can get out of here." We left within 40 minutes of our arrival so the kitchen had barely rung the closing bell. As soon as I got in my car, I immediately texted my friend who raved about your restaurant and advised "F that place, never again, I have never been treated so badly by a server." I did check the restaurant reviews after this and it spoke of the atmosphere, the friendly staff, the food, and the drinks. Well I wish I could have experienced that but no! I contemplated writing this review since it usually goes nowhere so I spoked to my friends who have visited your establishment and those who have not. The friends who have visited were very disappointed and others stated, "they would not be dining there". They all came to the same conclusion to share so if anyone is trying to figure out whether Panda Express or Basil Cafe, the Panda would be my first choice after this. If I could give you a ZERO star I would but 1 star it is since that is my only option. I will say the food was good so thanks to the chef. But I rather dine at a restaurant with crappy food with an exceptional server than the opposite. I did give her a tip even though she did not deserve it. Hopefully she shares her tips with the chef since they did all the work.
