Hands down best flavor Chinese in Wausau. Had everywhere else and this is superior to Chang, Peking, etc. awesome General Tao, hot and sour soup, coconut shrimp, and chicken with veggies. I've been looking for a good place to go around here and I finally found one! If I could critique anything, I would just say cook the shrimp a little longer so they're a bit more crispy. I love the food at Hot Wok! I get the Family meal to go, then I have several meals to eat at home. The Mongolian Beef is VERY DELICIOUS, the Chef adds water chestnuts for me, just the way I like it. I'll be back this week for more!! read more

Lomein noodles were thick like German spaetzles and tasteless. The house special happy family had fake crab, tough BBQ pork and not at all spicy like I requested. The egg rolls are small but not bad. The place looks dirty inside. read more

Ordered chicken wings, they gave me pieces of wings cute not the whole Wong. Ordered shrimp egg foo young. The shrimp were not cooked into the pancakes. Oh and they were not even pancakes just blobs of batter cooked. The shrimp were laid on top. Ordered egg rolls they were about 3 inches long and not homemade. Definitely frozen. Never will Ordered from here again. We are from CT and have eaten some excellent Chinese food and some bad. But this was the worst food I have ever paid for.​ read more

I have been driving by this restaurant for year's and never stopped. After our favorite asian closed, I took notice and have stopped for carry out several times. Shrimp and lobster sauce, egg drop soup and wonton soup are over good and less expensive than other asian eateries in our area. Will continue to explore their menu. read more

8/13/21. Tried the Terriyaki Chicken Bowl...would not recommend it. Dry, strange flavor, upset stomach afterward. The steamed dumplings were okay ( should have gotten them fried) and the crab rangoon was just "okay." Disappointed, but will give them another chance as this is the only bad meal we've gotten here. read more

Chicken Lo Mein (Extra Spicy) -- It tastes good, once you bite into it you don't wanna stop. The noodles are not over cooked, they're tender, and go down rather well. The noodles are not too thin, and not too thick. They carry a decent portion of the flavor. Taking the first bite, or uh, whatever you want to call the first entry of the noodles into the palette piques a desire to continue on slurping. Yes-- It's that good. The taste within the onions is delicious, delectable. The amount of flavor that went into these onions is perfect! Biting into this was the ticket. The chicken was soft, slightly chewy. It melted in my mouth, but a little bit too quickly. Unfortunately, the chicken was the weakest part of the dish. Which isn't good seeing as this dish is called "Chicken Lo Mein". The chicken feels like an accessory. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't taste bad, but it's the least flavorful part of the dish. Marination could fix this, or perhaps simmering in a nice sauce. Perhaps frying the chicken to make it feel more like chicken would work as well. The best part of this is that it's a small town, asiatic type restaurant. So, if you ask for special additions/modifications, maybe you'll have your meal just the way you want! Boneless Spare Ribs - Rich texture, feels like you're eating actual boneless ribs. This actually lived up to its name. As I was eating it, I was slightly confused. I thought, shouldn't there be a bone on this? It felt like I was eating baby back spare ribs, without the bone! The sauce, initially, tasted transparent (?). To describe it, it's presence was there but not fully. I'm sure there's a term out there for that, but I'm tired. However, the flavor increases the more you chew. You get so into it that each piece of meat feels so small, that you bite into the next to keep the flavor train going. White Rice -- A standard test for all Chinese food places. Shouldn't be too hard to make, I mean if you get this and it's awful then either the chef doesn't like you, or the chef doesn't like you. Anyway, biting into the white rice was surprising to say the least. I have not, ever, had rice like this. It was sticky, plain and tasteless, but buttery smooth. The grains were not tough, but not too soft. It was... perfect. This was what gave me hope for this restaurant, and sealed the deal for my return. Chili Oil - Mmm, smell that sunflower oil. Those red pepper flakes, are those locally grown? I don't think I've tasted such rich flakes before. This chili oil blew my socks off, keep in mind I came in here with low expectations only for them to be fulfilled by a greater margin. Fortune Cookies - Ok, these were probably stale. Not that good, if at all. Most forgettable part of the dish. All in all, I'd definitely eat here again. Great place! read more

Like many Chinese restaurants in the Wausau area, your experience depends on what you order (and your preference in how they cook it). Hot wok has better dishes in comparison to others, such as their orange chicken, Singapore Chow Mei Fun, and Ginger Chicken. The rest are average, and a few disappointing ones. The noodle dishes are a bit salty, with no freshness to the taste. The Coconut Shrimp were large, but the sauce too creamy. And the Sesame Chicken has a great taste, though a few times the high amount of chicken tendons were making each bite difficult. Overall the portion sizes are excellent, service is quick, and their combination plate (entree, fried/steam rice) is a bargain at around $5-6. Stick to their good dishes and you'll be in for a good time. read more

we got the friend rice ,combo lomein,sesame/sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli, egg roles and crab Rangoons and they were all very good and freshly made I would recommend this place and it reminds me of California Chinese food which was super good this place deserves more than a 3.0 rating I deserves a 5 star rating. read more

Service is always friendly. I like more of the traditional oriental cooking, so this is a good option for me and my family. It's not my #1 favorite oriental, but is my #2 fave in the area. I go to it a lot more due to it's cheaper prices, drive up, and ability to bring my loud children in there.. without getting weird looks due to my sons noise level. Most of the food is super good. Had the sesame chicken and garlic beef last time. I enjoyed them both. The only thing i don't suggest here is there sweet and sour chicken.... it's chicken nuggets in sauce... not the real thing. They have a drive up, love it! One thing that needs cleaned is the screen tho in drive up. They deliver too.:) I do admit the inside does need updated. Chairs especially- some are ripped, blinds- a few ruined, and bathrooms pretty bad shape. Also needs some weather proofing. VERY Cold all the time in there, been that way for 15 years. Probably would not take much for them to budget a few updates here and there to improve on business. The tables where dirty tho, probably the only place that I will except that at just because the food and service are so GREAT!!! :) read more

Friendly service, damn cheap food and LOTS of it, especially for the price, served on styrafoam plates with plastic forks and cooked up fast. Really fast. I had the shrimp fried rice. It was good, not great, but good. And more than you can eat for around $6.00. read more

I could hear commotion in the back ground and she's clearly not helping another customer. After waiting some more, I just hung up. I think Hot Wok has the best vegetable lo mein in Wausau. It tastes great and they use a great selection of vegetables. They have large portions for a cheap price. They also feature a drive through to quickly pick up orders. read more

Very cheap Chinese food, satisfying portions. Somewhat large menu, quality very dependent on when/what ordered. Staff are very effecient.
