Menu front Nov 22

I was looking for a sushi place on the east side of the Bronx and this one appeared. It started as an AYCE restaurant and it is no longer, I was curious to try it out. I went on a Sunday evening where it was packed by 8pm. Food:2.5/5 Let me get specific, I got the sashimi deluxe ( $25, rating 4/5) but, our appetizers and my meal was really disappointing. Firstly, I asked for the FJ Noodles and the server explained that they do not serve that dish, even though it is on the menu. I was like seriously?! Then, I ordered the 10 Piece Hot and Spicy Wontons appetizer to get a wonton dish covered in a sweet peanut butter sauce. Similar to the sauce served with Vietnamese summer rolls, not spicy at all. The takoyaki was clearly not fresh as its shape on the plate was that of a truffle (a round mold with a flat base) and instead of circular sphere. Finally the soup dumplings were meh (not very flavorful) and they served without black vinegar and ginger instead a side of sweet soy sauce. Finally, the udon soup was 75% veggies, 5% beef, and 20% udon. I was so disappointed I ended up eating a portion of my partner's food. Only going back for sushi. Service: 2/5 Honestly, this is place where you need to flag down a person to place your order. I was hoping the service button around the table worked but, clearly not as I waited for over 20 mins for the waiter to notice me. After the menu confused (talked about above), we slowly got our food and chugged our water glasses to distract from our hunger. We had to flag the waiter again to refill our waters and he didn't talk to us until was asked for the check. Not great, but maybe I expected too much. All in all, I may order sushi from here but I not sure I would go back in person. Aside from the sushi, the rest of the food seems meh.

Shangerila is easily one of the best Asian fusion cuisines in the Bronx. My favorite entree is the General Tso shrimp. This jumbo shrimp dish is satisfying and filling. The batter and sauce is perfect; I thoroughly enjoy it every time. When I first tried this dish, it was super spicy (not to my liking). When I had it the next time with out the spice, it wowed me! The lo mein and fried rice is also great here!

I used to live in the area and this was one of our favs! Food is good, staff is friendly. They have a pretty good roll selection and the portions are generous. The only downside is that the music they play sometimes isn't appropriate for a restaurant. Had lunch there today and midway thru my meal a song came on that had nothing but the word b*tch repeated over and over along with other inappropriate things. Otherwise, great neighborhood placs

The only sushi place I trust. Their fish is always fresh and delicious, especially their spicy tuna rolls. Delivery is always fast.

Is there vegan options available here?

Yes. They have veggie dishes, tofu and soups that could be ordered.

When the ayce be back on the menu?

They don't! I've asked about this for a while now. I don't think it'll be coming back, due to the cost. My husband and I order 5 rolls plus two appetizers and spend about the same when we were doing all you can eat. Hope that's helpful.

However, a good friend of mine strongly recommended to me that I come back and try again. She said, she is a frequent customer and loves their ramen noodles so much. So I decided to give it a shot. I ordered Blackbeard ramen noodles. Wow!! I was so surprised!! Good surprise, though. I noticed that the taste of broth really changed in a good way. Not greasy or oily at all. Very flavorful and delicious. Toppings were as great as before. Chashu melted in my mouth. I also liked their Shumai because they were big and meaty. My friend loved both Chicken & Pork Chashu Buns, too. He said, they were one of the best bun appetizers that he has ever tried among other Japanese cuisine restaurants. This experience definitely overwrites my previous impressions in positive way!!

Pork was shredded and a little dry, but the Japanese mayo and other ingredients made it very good. ++++ Green Curry Ramen - EXCELLENT curry flavor, but it wasn't too strong. Ramen was cooked perfectly and plenty of ingredients inside, including 2 slices of cha siu and a half of a soft boiled egg. ++++ Blackbeard Ramen - Also fantastic broth flavor too and same comment as above regarding their ramen. ++++ Kids Tonkotsu Ramen - At just $7, this is a steal for a kids ramen. There was 1 piece of cha siu in it, but it was excellent for a kids bowl. + Food comes out fairly quickly. + Private parking lot, but it was packed on an early Saturday evening. THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - Service was a little disappointing. ---- One (young) waitress seemed very inpatient and was a bit flustered throughout the evening. Didn't appreciate her lack of cordialness. - Interior is tight. ---- There are only 5 tables in the restaurant and all of them can accommodate 2-4 people, MAX. There is also counter seating too for about 4-5 people. - It was freeezing inside when we came in on a frigid January Saturday evening, so keep your jacket on! MIXED THOUGHTS --------------------------- = Nada. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = We arrived at about 5:45 PM on a January Saturday evening and snagged the last available table. Turnover is relatively quick here though because all people are eating is ramen, but there was a large party of about 8 people waiting a good 15-25 minutes after we were seated.

The seating in the restaurant was a great variety during a week night. Seems to be like a neighborhood gem for great takeout. Food was yummy and satisfying! We got two appetizers and each a ramen which we enjoyed but definitely not at all your traditional ramen. The soups here are made with chicken broth which is a different flavor profile then other places. Still just as yummy and i hope to be back again for the kind service!

Broth for the ramen mediocre, spicy noodles overcooked and tasted like a cheap Thai restaurant. But what really bothered me was the slow and confused service. Ordered a bowl of Ramen which took over 45 minutes to make. The restaurant wasn't too crowded and the only reason I can think of was the take out orders during lunch time. The waiters were moving around the restaurant a lot but kept forgetting to bring drinks from the bar or dishes from the kitchen. So drinks weren't cold and food wasn't warm enough. Noodles stretched out and without the correct texture. Overall very disappointing. Especially considering the previous Tampopo and the one on187th.

I also enjoy the kitchen apps and entrées- the miso eggplant and agedashi tofu are great appetizers. The salmon teriyaki is always perfectly cooked and accompanied by fresh vegetables. As other reviewers have mentioned- the construction of the rolls can suffer at times- for me this usually looks like 1 at most 2 pieces losing their integrity when I pick them up. My friends and I agree that this is Riverdale, not A sushi hotspot desitation and we would rather sacrifice a point on the physical construction /proper sushi technique than go somewhere else that has beautiful perfectly rolled sushi- with less fresh fish or rolls that are more rice than filling. Also- the sushi IS good! I usually go for salmon, tuna and a sweet potato tempura roll The lunch specials (monday-saturday until 3:15 pm) are a really good deal and come with pretty good miso soup and a fresh side salad. I am appreciative that they run a little later in the day as well. Aoyu has always been very reasonable abt modifications- there is no upcharge for brown rice for lunch bento- easy to request veggie instead of pork gyoza, and I really don't like crab- imitation or otherwise- so they always let me sub a cucumber avocado roll instead. Thanks for being such a great restaurant in riverdale Aoyu!

The workers were super nice and friendly. They checked in on us to make sure we didn't have any issues ordering. The ordering site though was such a pain. I couldn't tell if items that I wanted were checked off and instead of being able to edit them once added to the cart, the item would have to be deleted and done over again. We were more frustrated with the website than anything. Food came out at a reasonable time. We were a party of 5. They have bells to ring as a thank you to the wait staff. Inside was pretty packed with people. They have an order option for to go orders. I LOVED the food. The combination of Jamaican meets Asian fusion was on point. The ox tail bao buns were so amazing and didn't disappoint. The combo of the sauce, ox tail, and sweet plantains were worth every penny. I ordered the curry chicken ramen and the mix of the curry with the pork soup option was delicious. We also had the jerk chicken ramen. Warning if you don't like spice, the jerk chicken does come with a kick so if you order spice level for your bowl, it'll add a level of added spice to it. The mushrooms in this bowl were so good and perfectly cooked!! I will definitely be hitting this spot up again. Place would've received a 5 if it wasn't for the ordering system.

The inside is casual, and the service was friendly. I thought about getting one of their drinks, but unfortunately, they couldn't make it that day. For food, we split a bunch of small plates, and people ordered their main dishes separately afterwards. Our first appetizer was the Dậu Hủ Ky/Tau Hu Ky/Crispy Shrimp Dumpling for $11.95, which consisted of seasoned and grounded shrimp, crisp tofu skin wrap, and house pickles. The outside tofu skin was very crispy and slightly oily, creating an interesting textural contrast with the soft, bouncy center where the shrimp was. There was also some nuoc cham on the side, with a bit of sweetness. The pickles consisted of the typical carrots. This was pretty good. The other dish we split was the better $11.95 Banh Mi Brisket and Bone Marrow, with pulled beef, spicy bone marrow, and an egg upon request. This was on the slightly sweet end with the tender brisket braised in five-spice, presumably. Otherwise, it fell apart slightly from the juiciness of the meat, combined with the pickled vegetables. To add more heat, there was also some fresh-sliced jalapeño. While obviously not as good as some other bahn mi specialty shops or some of the better Vietnamese spots opening up more recently, this was still good. My main dish, along with another person, was one of their many soups. This was the Bún Bò Huế/Spicy Beef Noodle Soup for $15.95, listed as Hue Province (Central) spicy beef broth, pork knuckle, sliced beef brisket, and sliced sausage. This was a bit less spicy with less umami than I expected, but it was still pretty well flavored. There was also plenty of meat inside, including several pieces of pork knuckle, and a lot of noodles on the bottom, which were bouncy. This came with the usual assortment of greens, as with typical pho. The other person, who had the same dish as I did, ordered a Dầu Cháo Quẩy, or rather, in this case, a Thêm Quẩy/Soup Doughnut, for an extra $3. This was the Vietnamese version of a Chinese cruller, or Youtiao, and was nice dipped in the broth. As for the other two, one of them got the $14.95 Phở Cha/Vegan Pho with added Bò Viên/Beef Meatballs for an additional $3. They seemed to like it and took some of it home. The last person went with and loved the $15.95 Thit Kho/Claypot Braised Pork Belly, which looked excellent and, honestly, better than my dish, at least in appearance. We had a pretty good Vietnamese meal here. It's above average compared to the typical spot, but I likely wouldn't trek all the way back up the subway to go back here. If I were, I would likely get their Cơm tấm/Broken Rice next time, as that dish looked excellent at another table.
