Dry crusty ribs, Cowboy breakfast! No texas pit for us!

We had high hopes for this place. As people who know good southern barbecue, we really thought this would be great. We were sorely disappointed from the beginning. 1) We ordered Outlaw, one of their featured bourbons, and were told they don't have it. When we first ordered it, the waitress didn't even seem to know what we were talking about. 2) We ordered the pulled pork sandwich with the house sauce, the wagyu brisket sandwich with the blackberry bbq sauce, potato salad, Mac and cheese, and corn bread. The pulled pork was dry and barely had any sauce on it, but there was an extra cup of sauce on the side, so i added more, no big deal- maybe some people only like a tiny amount of sauce. The bun was cold though, fresh out of the refrigerator cold- no attempt was made to warm it or toast it at all. The potato salad was bland and just had relish in it. The macaroni and cheese was bland- you tasted more macaroni than cheese. The wagyu brisket was extremely fatty and not the least bit tender- it was really tough. Wagyu brisket normally goes for about $60 per pound, so for a $15 sandwich, we didn't expect actual wagyu brisket, but if you're calling it "wagyu" at least make sure it's tender. Finally the corn bread- EXTREMELY disappointed. First, we didn't even get the corn bread, we had to remind the waitress we wanted it. Second, I like sweet corn bread just fine, but sweet corn bread is NOT southern corn bread- it's yankees ruining corn bread. And they didn't even ask if we wanted butter or anything for it. 3) the service wasn't good. It took forever to get the bourbon we ended up ordering after they said they didn't have outlaw. We ordered the bourbon neat, so it shouldn't have taken more than 2 minutes to make it, instead it took 15. If the place was busy, we may have been more forgiving about it taking some time, but it wasn't busy at all. The waitress wasn't attentive and took a long time just to come take our food order and to check on us so we could ask for the corn bread. For a $50 meal, we were extremely disappointed. read more

Went with a small group and sampled just about all the smoked meets from best to worst: Turkey was dry, but good. Smoked turkey is often dry and this was forgivable. Brisket was okay. Lacked the great appealing smoke ring on the brisket pictured on their website or Facebook page, don't remember which. Pretty bland tasting. One of the members of our party ordered the Wagyu, but we discovered didn't get it when a forgotten part of the order was brought over, but upgraded to Wagyu due them running out of the regular brisket. The brisket brought late was much better than the brisket on the Wagyu plate which was very much like the regular brisket served in other plates. Pulled pork was drier than it should have been and flavor was okay at best. No one liked it very much. Finally the ribs... I had half a rack I shared with a couple of others. They cook and serve the ribs with the membrane on. No big deal to me, but I know some people hate it left on. The end rib which was in the middle of the full rack, was okay. Flavor was okay, but it was overcooked. Each rib closer and closer to the end of the rack got worse until the end rib was downright inedible. By far the worst I'd ever had. The sides were okay, nothing special, nothing terrible: creamed corn, baked beans, mac and cheese was okay flavor but quite dry. I've been told this is due to reheating. Finally there was a piece of cornbread with one of the plates, but that was the only one at the table and was reported to be okay. I feel a little bad for not bringing this up to the server, but I was with a group of various people some of whom were friends of friends and I wasn't going to distract from our conversation and evening by pointing out the restaurant's errors. Any decent cook could feel that the end of the half rack was terribly overcooked and should never have served it. read more

Yummy!! What a hidden gem!! I've been many times and have tried the ribs, and brisket. This visit I really enjoyed my smoked Turkey club, and the mac and cheese was very creamy and delicious! Don't waste your time or money going to this BBQ joint when there's better BBQ options out there. My husband and I wanted to check out and try some different BBQ than our usual haunts, what a mistake! One thing to note was the service, there were no issues there. Our waitress was friendly and on point. We put our order in and got the wings and the Texas Dinner. Our food came out and after a few bites in all the food was lukewarm! Who wants to have lukewarm food when you go out to dinner? No one! The brisket had potential but it just died along with the pulled pork. As our side we got the cream corn which was like the consistency of Mac and cheese or worse like a really think glue....GROSS!!! We told the waitress the problem and she suggested getting a manager but we just wanted out of this place. They ended up comping our food and gave us a gift card which will probably go unused. We wont be back for round 2. What a disappointment! Seeing that this was on a Friday night during prime time it should be a restaurant's time to shine. Worst. Meal. Ever. Went to dinner, party of 7. Took a solid 30 minutes to get a cocktail. We finally ordered. Waited for way too long to get our meals. 6 meals arrived. The waitress had no idea that one person was sitting at the table with no meal at all. When it finally arrived, 10 minutes later, we asked why there was a 10 minutes wait. The waitress responded "that's why". What does this mean??? All of the food came out warm or flat out cold. Add to this, my personal meal was tasteless - and the brisket was FATTY. Gross. Food is average to below, the service is horrible. This is our second attempt at this place, the best thing it has going for it is that it smells great, but that is about it. The food is bland, serving size is average. We ordered takeout but discovered when we got home they forget the ribs we ordered, to make matters worse when we called back to inform them they practically accused us of trying to swindle them!..... I will say that the brisket although fatty was ok, and the ribs although bland had at least had the membrane removed this time (unlike the last time). I held off on trashing this place before as I hoped they might improve, but clearly it has not. read more

My husband and I are always wondering when someone will open a non-chain restaurant that really stands out. That being said, we decided to try Shane's Texas Bbq in Hampton. It was Sunday lunch, and only a few customers in the restaurant. Staff was friendly. We sat close to the food prep area, and saw the back of the house all wore gloves, but that does not mean they were practicing clean procedures. One of the cooks scratched his nose and then his head with his gloved hands, and then wiped his hands on his pants, and finally wiped a plate with his shirt and then under the lamps. Food was bland, and very fatty. No sauce or seasoning on the brisket or chili/sausage and beans and potato salad were tastless. Leaving the restaurant, another couple asked what we thought and found their experience was similar to ours. Unfortunately, we are still looking for someplace good to come to Hampton.. read more

They advertise prime rib from noon until 9pm but when I get there they say it's not ready until 4pm, it's always been that way. After a lengthy ride I settled for the brisket which was so dry they wrapped it in paper to go. The baked beans were so undercooked they were crunchy. There are far better BBQ restaurants around that charge a lot less and have better food. read more

I'm not a big fan of smoked food, however my husband is and we do not eat this type of food often. We always try and go out on Friday nights after a long work week. I decided we should try Shane's Texas Pit, recommended by a friend. I'm glad we did the food was delicious, the service by the bartender was outstanding! (Forgot her name) When I ordered my burger I asked for no cheese and no bacon, and the cook put cheese and bacon on it so it had to be returned and remade. I called in my order last Saturday and was greeted by a friendly host. I have the Alyssa the Little Piggy. It came with coleslaw on the sandwich, which wasn't on the sandwich description on the website. My friend said the coleslaw was a bit overwhelming and made the sandwich not as enjoyable, but I scraped it off and was treated to the best pulled pork I have ever had in my life. Honestly the best sandwich I have ate in a long time. The mac and cheese wasn't super flavorful. It tasted more like butter noodles than mac and cheese. Have tried twice cause really wanted to have a good local BBQ joint. The drinks are fantastic but that doesn't fill your stomach. The service was painfully slow and the restaurant was not busy at all (maybe 4 tables total). Ordered wings and first place I have ever been where I basically needed to do the prep work on the wings, everything was all together and barely cooked. Gross. No crisp ones on the skin at all, slimes. So I have to get down and dirty and gross to eat this and then it's barely cooked. Sent back and my explanation was this is how smoked wings are done . . . Yeah no it's lazy and not cooked. Have had smoked wings and def crispy, not slime. Was offered more free Chex mix in place of the wings - oh thanks. Food took a little longer than expected, my son's ribs were dry and the beans were dry and hard. So sorry Shane not coming back and not recommending it. read more

The food is awesome! We had wings for apps and was the best I have ever had. Then got family style for dinner to sample of pork ribs brisket and pulled pork. I am a brisket pulled pork girl and usually leave the ribs for my husband and son. Well these ribs were out of this world. Not fatty not slobbering with BBQ sauce. Just a dry rub no bbq sauce needed. Wrote a review about a year ago and it was removed. Not sure why? We came up north to Hampton to see a band at hampton beach and decided to give this place another try. Was kind of craving some barbecue. I had a combo plate which was brisket, turkey and pulled pork. My wife had a beet salad and the wings. Ok so the brisket was really bad. It was dry and tough at the same time. The turkey had a real funny taste to it and it was very dry also. The pork was ok as pulled pork goes. Lots of fat in the pulled pork. Most barbecue places I've been too will pull the fat out so this was surprising. My wife's salad had a lot of brown lettuce on the edges like it was past it's prime. She didn't t like the wings as they are big and connected like Chinese wings almost. I had one and thought it was ok but certainly not something I would rave about. We also had some Mac and Cheese and it was too well done for us like the pasta was almost burnt a bit. I was drinking whiskey and my wife had her usual high end vodka forget of it was kettle or goose but both of our cocktails absolutely sucked. Super weka and my wife swore it was well vodka.... WOW. This is the worst barbecue I've ever eaten. Obvious that the owner and chef are pizza people that have tried their hand at something different. The brisket was dry and lacked flavor. The sides were all disgusting. The prices are high and the service was low. Don't waste your time and money. A.mcdonalds mcrib is a better option than this place. read more

We were so excited about a BBQ place in Hampton but it fell far short of our expectations. The waitress was awesome but bartender had never heard of a Kahlua sombrero. Had beer instead. We ordered takeout. Brisket and turkey were very dry, macaroni was dry and very little cheese, beans ok, but not great. Threw out coleslaw, collard greens, chili, brisket and turkey after 1 bite. Tried to call and order for a large family. Due to covid we were trying to order dinner meals already plated, specially the salt lick plate with 3 plates being double brisket. The first time I called I was told that we could not order because they did not have enough brisket. I hung up and regrouped then I asked how much brisket they had in which I was told that they did have enough brisket but I couldn't order it as meals like I preferred and was limited to 1 pound per family. I hung up collected myself and called back so I could calmly speak to the manager so I could again hopefully accommodate a meal for a large family where I would be allowed to have more than 1 pound of brisket. when I was speaking to the manager she told me that it was a cost issue with the dinner plates; brisket is $26/ pound and the dinner plates were $22 each but they couldn't charge me extra to accommodate the needs of my family. After three calls my family was still unable to place an order for dinner in which I ended the conversation with the decision not to order from them anymore and in the future when I am craving some good brisket I will be sure to go to Goody Cole's. Where the brisket is not only better but it is only $13.99 a pound I will just be sure not to crave brisket on a Monday or Tuesday as those are the days that they are closed read more

I just went for the first time yesterday and loved it! Theres a really cool atmosphere inside and games to play if you want. Large jenga, connect 4, etc. Everyonr was really nice and the manager came over to greet us and ask if it was our first time visiting. Seemed genuine and not like a fake 'I have to do this'kind of gesture. The food is amazing. I got Wayno's brisket and turkey combo....and wow. That turkey is heaven. I had enough left over for ankther full meal. Also-- mac and cheese was yummy! My husband had the wagyu brisket and liked it as well. Will go back. read more

The food here was really good, made up for décor, was a bit much for a seaside tourist town. They really pushed the Texas theme. We went on a Friday night and they had live music, which wasn't overly loud, which was nice. We split the Texas Dinner and it was just enough food for us. The house BBQ sauce was pretty good too. We tried the new BBQ place in Hampton tonight and it gets a big thumbs up!! The atmosphere is great nice wide open lots of wood comfortable varied seating options as well as a bar and big TVs. There is a nice selection of BBQ items reasonably priced from a la carte to whole meals. There are also salads and sandwiches. We shared the special southwest salad to start and it was fresh light and delicious with corn black beans and lime dressing. Then we had the brisket sandwich with a side of Mac n cheese and a 1/4 lb turkey with side of Mac n cheese. $11 and $9 respectively for a lot of food. Both the brisket and turkey were cooked very well. Tasty not fatty. Moist not dry. You can pick from if you different barbecue sauces for the side. The Mac n cheese was light with just enough cheese and some brisket in it. Our other friend had a platter which came with two types of meats the brisket and pork and two sides the Mac n cheese and creamed corn. He loved it. The drink menu looks good though we did not try any of their special cocktails or they're good assortment of craft beers tonight. Also there was acoustic guitar music tonight. Which was a great touch. He played a lot of fun favorites from Tom Petty to sweet Caroline. All in all I would highly recommend Shane's for a good meal reasonably priced in a fun atmosphere. read more
