I love Persian (Iranian) food. Living in LA, the Mecca of Iranians outside Tehran, you can find good Persian food anywhere. Shamshiri is one of the older Persian restaurants in LA, I think they have 3 locations (Glendale, LA, Westwood). The food here is traditional. The atmosphere and ambiance is okay, the food makes it better. The service is decent. I loved their combo Koobideh (ground meats), with the beef and chicken meats. Their specialty rice (add $6.99 for specialty rice to your entree) is good too, I had the Zereshk Polo (barberry rice). It's alittle tart but yummy. Self service free parking lot. Credit cards okay.

I went here on my birthday in 2022. I ordered the koobideh. The tomato was broiled well. The onions and bell peppers were roasted to perfection. The onion and ground beef kebab complimented each other well. It satisfied me and I felt full afterwards. It was kinda large inside, there were at least 6 tables. Only one other group of people was eating when we were seated. My family had questions and the waiter answered them perfectly. We didn't wait long for the food to arrive.

So this was my first visit to Shamshiri Restaurant, and wow!!! I was absolutely blown away! I ordered the Chicken Koobideh, and let me tell you as an American who absolutely loves Persian food, I have to say this was by far the most amazing and delicious chicken koobideh I've ever had. It was perfectly seasoned, juicy, and so tender it practically melted in my mouth. Everything about the experience was just fantastic, from the warm, friendly service to the cozy atmosphere. You can tell they put real care and love into every dish they make. From now on, I know exactly where I'm going whenever I'm craving Persian food. Shamshiri has definitely won me over!

Everybody order the TAHCHIN. It is a saffron rice, yogurt, chicken pie topped with barberries. The best item on the menu.

I was raised with koobideh, and I like to think I can differentiate between the good and the bad. I was referred to this Restaurant by a gentleman running a Persian Café nearby who had run out of koobideh for the day, so I gave it a shot. The building façade is unsuspecting, very plain and discreet. When I walked through the big double doors, I found a pristine dining room with understated ambience. I was immediately greeted at the door by attentive staff and assumed a seat at the bar. I noticed the Kashke Bademjan on the menu and gave it a chance. This is an eggplant dip that is relatively easy to mess up. But here it's absolutely delicious. Perfectly prepared. Reminded me of the stuff my grandmother used to make. In anticipation of the kebab, the server brought me pads of butter, raw, sliced onion, and sumac. These people know exactly what they're doing. I can't tell you how many times I've been to Persian restaurants where these essentials were not provided. Whereas normally, I would have to ask for these things, and often restaurants will lack these these essentials, they were brought to me here before I even asked. Very impressed. Then came the koobideh. And I was genuinely impressed. It was tender, juicy delicious, full of flavor. The saffron rice was also well prepared, and I enjoyed every bite, the entire experience. If you're looking for Premier Persian cuisine look no further. This is the place. As we say, "dastet shomah dahd nahkohn", literally translated to "don't hurt your hand", an expression of gratitude towards those who serve you and provide fantastic meals like the one I had here. Merci.

Unfortunately, this was the first time I've had such a disappointing experience with a server. Our server, Mario, completely got our order wrong. He brought out four huge plates of rice for a table of four, along with several meat dishes that we never ordered. One of the meats he brought is something I never order, so I know for a fact the order was mixed up. It made no sense to bring that much rice with all the extra food. The biggest issue wasn't the mistake. It was how Mario handled it. When I politely brought it to his attention, instead of trying to fix the situation, he became defensive, insisted he hadn't made a mistake, gave us attitude, and walked away without offering a solution. A simple apology and an effort to correct the order would have gone a long way. He also never came back to refill our drinks until we asked. We were the only table in the garden area, yet we barely received any service. Thankfully, the server from the other section stepped in and took great care of us. I didn't catch his name, but he helped make the situation much better. I've always enjoyed coming here, but this experience with Mario really changed my perspective on the restaurant. I hope management addresses this because this is not the level of service I've come to expect here.

You are welcomed with basket of pita served with accompaniment of butter, radish, raw onion and mint. I always have to resist eating too much pita cause it's so good! We always order the cornish chicken kabab and beef soltani. The chicken is marinated so well with yogurt and spices and charred to perfection. Each piece of chicken is sooo tender (yes even the breast!) If you don't know what to order get this!! It is my favorite on the menu.

But it is without question the most important Armenian restaurant in the world. Armenians are simultaneously a diaspora people, a people of the book, and an old country people. Therefore, odd as it may seem, it is entirely appropriate that the most important Armenian restaurant in the world should not be located in Armenia at all, but should serve a diaspora community in a way that makes them feel connected to home, both interns of cuisine and in terms of communal warmth. Technically, this is more of a Lebanese restaurant than an Armenian restaurant, but that hardly matters. It's a place of celebration, merriment, laughter, and tears. In short, it is THE gathering place for Armenians in Southern California. Because of its fame and importance, the thing that is consistently overlooked about this restaurant is just how excellent the food is. Bring a Lebanese expat here and you will invariably hear them say after the first bite of hummus that it doesn't compare to the hummus they used to enjoy in Beirut. By the middle of the bowl, they will say that it actually is not as bad as they first thought. By the end of the bowl they will declare that this hummus ranks among the greatest they have ever tasted. Carousel does not overwhelm you. It seduces you. And you'll be back.

Here's how I think the ones I've had stack up.... 1. Mini Kabob. Non traditional dressing but the flavor is well balanced with fresh ingredients and tender chicken thigh meat on a very good tortilla. Slightly pricier than the others but worth it. 2. Ggiata. The best of the more traditional grilled chicken wraps with crunchy croutons inside and an outstanding tortilla. Their traditional Caesar dressing on the side is very good. The Venice location tastes better than the one in Highland Park. 3. Highly Likely (Highland Park). Very good wrap but without any croutons or crunchy elements. Solid tortilla but the dressing on the side isn't as flavorful as the top two. 4. Sweetgreen (Pasadena). Best of the chain restaurants. Good but can be a bit too salty. Their Chicken Cali Club wrap is actually better balanced flavor-wise. The wrap here is smaller but still good. All the above wraps were satisfying and filling with the one from Sweetgreen being the smallest.
