This place is very difficult to find and fails to provide guests with adequate directions for how to access the property.

Owls Hoot Barn - Having fun

    Owls Hoot Barn

Back when my fiance and I were searching for our perfect venue to host our wedding, we already knew…read morewe wanted a barn themed wedding. We went to visit a few locations, and searched many more online for days on weeks. It was when we stumbled upon this venue that we knew our search was over. Owls Hoot Barn checked off every box we wanted in a wedding venue. There were even factors we had not necessarily considered in a venue that OHB was and to deliver without fail. The grounds of venue - gorgeous, the owner and her entire family/team - most amazing people you can find, decor and supplies - everything we wanted and needed, overall experience - exactly what you would expect when you think of a small piece of paradise/heaven! And this also includes the fact that our beloved pups were allowed to be on the grounds and partake in our special day! The owner of the venue, who was also our wedding coordinator, went above and beyond to help us arrange everything we needed to make it wedding perfect. Even going as far to come back on site for our rehearsal dinner during her own wedding anniversary! How many people would be willing to do that? Her passion for ensuring every couple out there sees their vision fulfilled is truly one that is undeniable and unique. We could not have pulled this off, let alone reduce our wedding planning stress significantly, without her help. My now wife, our current (and future pups) and myself now have found a place we don't just refer to as a hidden gem, but a small place we can call another home. For any future couples out there, whether you are considered local or coming from another state of the U.S. entirely, you will fall in love with OHB. My wife probably would think I shouldn't leave too long of a review as some people might think "that one is too long to read" but I can't help express how much we truly were blessed with this place...so much that even to this day we joke about doing it all over again just to relive our wedding weekend back in October 2025. For any current/future couples out there searching for a wedding venue in Hudson Valley, NY...this place should absolutely be #1 on your list!

The old barn dates back to the 1700s and is the perfect setting for a rustic country wedding. We stayed through Harvest Hosts, but they also rent cabins, a farmhouse, RV spots, and a glamping barn. The property also has a wood-fired sauna, cold plunge, and a creekside swimming hole--such a relaxing and memorable stay!

But something about being here during winter was...magical. High class, intimate, romantic place for your partner and you to have a quiet getaway. The bar has fun cocktails both in the mansion and at the pavilion. The food was PHENOMENAL. My favorite was the truffle fries. They actually used real shaved truffle on top instead of just truffle oil like a lot of other places, so I appreciate the commitment to the craft. Complimentary breakfast was *chefs kiss*. Fun night time hangout at the fire pits with s'mores and brick oven pizza all night. I need to come back and stay in those cabins, I stayed in the mansion and it was the best sleep I've had in months. But you know what the stand out feature was? The staff. From the greeters, to the bartenders, to the management, they really made you feel special. Efficient, attentive, warm and welcoming. I can honestly keep going about how amazing the experience here was but I think I'll cut it here, just go see for yourself.

I expected better for almost $1000 per day. When we were there, salsa music played on the public beach nearby was LOUD ALL DAY. Not what you want in a retreat weekend. All the staff, though, were well trained and super nice.

The indoor space has a bar, a dance section, a billiard table (tho not official and a bit lower in height), room that you can serve food to guests, and hang out with friends. The outdoor space is large enough for host a ceremony, it has some tables and seats and tree with a swing. I'd say the view outdoors is pretty beautiful, specially at night. I think this can be a good venue to have celebs in. Definitely recommend it : )

Henrietta and…read moreMatt spared no effort to make us feel comfortable, relaxed and at home in their beautiful space. And yes, it is truly beautiful! It retains the charm of an older estate but with modern amenities. For example, during our wedding weekend, it was extremely hot outside, so we were somewhat limited in doing outdoor activities during the day. Regardless, we were able to enjoy ourselves inside, with the spacious rooms, ample seating and indoor activities, and music throughout the space. We also had a great time doing karaoke! We loved that guests who wanted to go to sleep early could. The upstairs rooms are private, quiet and well-air-conditioned. And we loved that they each had their own bathroom! We also appreciated Henrietta, Matt and their team's efforts to make sure the catered dinner was a success. The food was incredible. We loved having the option to pick from so many dishes, and all of them were fantastic. Having them handle everything allowed us to just focus on the wedding and enjoy spending time together. Maybe the thing we appreciated most of all was how quickly they dealt with any requests or (minor) issues that came up. They felt like our partners throughout the weekend, responding quickly to questions and never making us feel like we were burdening them. At the end of the weekend, a few attendees remarked that they were thinking about doing a future event at Vanderbilt, because they loved it so much. We recommend Vanderbilt Lakeside without reservation!

The Bavarian Manor Hotel - Water logged green beans from a CAN

**This is a review for Char's at the Bavarian Manor, not for the inn itself**…read more We came here for dinner this evening and it was a total disaster. We are visiting with family in town and were told about the new launch of this restaurant and we're excited to check it out. We had a 5:30 reservation and were seated right away. We were a party of 6 adults and a toddler. Our party ordered apps, we got the deviled eggs and the fried calamari. These things took 45 minutes to get to the table. Serving someone deviled eggs shouldn't take 45 minutes, and the calamari was frozen, so we are unsure why the opening of the service was so slow. It was almost as if the chef was deviling the eggs right at that time and for the amount of time we waited she would've have to have been cutting and battering a squid in the flesh which I know was not happening in there. Also, just to note the restaurant wasn't full. There were probably four other tables with diners. At this point, our toddler is starting to get increasingly restless, as it has been an hour and change, and the entrées have not been delivered yet at this time. My husband and I are taking turns to go into the lobby to distract her and get her moving so she wouldn't have a meltdown in the restaurant. We keep inquiring about where the dinner was and we're told several times "it's on its way" or "it's coming soon". Flash forward to 7:30pm. Our entrées were scattered arriving to the table, I asked the waitress where are my child's grilled cheese was and she said that she had forgot to put it in. (She did say she was sorry but when you have a hangry child sorry doesn't cut it) We waited all this time and the food for our baby's meal didn't exist. At this point, she was having a full fledged meltdown in the lobby, and so did I. I expressed great displeasure to the server and told her I needed her to box up mine and my husband's meals as soon as they arrived to the table, so we could leave to go deal with our toddler at home because she had reached her breaking point due to the long wait and lack of FOOD IN A RESTAURANT. We waited for our dinner service for two hours and the quality did not justify the long wait. Water logged canned green beans (the kind you get in a school or prison cafeteria),flavorless mashed potatoes, what looks and tastes like stove top stuffing... and the worst part about the whole experience, was not receiving proper customer service for this terrible experience. Me and my husband didn't even get to eat our meals at the table in the actual restaurant, which we were still charged for fully. My mother-in-law told me they comped the grilled cheese from the check (and again, I wouldn't know because I had to leave) but comping a $10 item that you forgot to put in, in the first place is not enough for the bad experience overall. We will never come back here. The kitchen brigade seems nonexistent or very inexperienced. Piss poor dinner service with even worse customer service.

I ordered Sauerbraten that was served with red cabbage and a potato dumpling. All delicious and tons of meat. Ordered a few apps for sharing including their 5 star potato pancakes. I also ordered the crab cakes based on other Yelp reviews. While they were delicious, they didn't live up to the hype, maybe because I had Authentic German cuisine on my mind. I also sampled some spaetzel off my wife's plate and it was amazing. My wife had the Wiener schnitzel which she would highly recommend and another in our party had the Jager schnitzel, also great. Their German beer selection was great with about 4 or 5 euro pours on tap. So why not a perfect 5 based on my comments. I will say it is a 4 star with an asterisk due to Covid. We were only able to get a 7:30 reservation as that was the earliest available which was fine. Service started good and in the middle of our order, waitress got pulled away to served food to another table stating she would be right back. She didn't return for over 20 minutes to ask the other two at our table for their order. Not a big deal because we were not in any rush. Food was a bit slow but not unbearable, especially with Covid restrictions etc. one person in our party got dessert and a minute after we paid the bill, still with drinks half full, we were told dining room was closing. I get that they wanted to go home but the 20-30 minute delay taking our order is the only reason we were still there. (Side note, the server was very good but something sidetracked her) We will definitely return to the Bavarian Manor and I highly suggest it for a nice meal in a cool area of New York.
