My wife and I (both early 30s) went back the Fall to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Typically, we are not bed and breakfast style people. We like our own space and don't love staying with and around strangers in an intimate setting. But after looking at some of the reviews and pictures, we decided to give it a shot. Amanda and Joe are two of the nicest, warm, fun and amazing people we have ever met. From the minute that we arrived, we felt like we just got to the home of a long-time, great friend and not a hotel/B&B. The main house where you stay is decorated incredibly well and so clean it was like we were the first people to stay there. You can tell that Amanda put in a ton of time, thought and effort in to the decorating. Everything was perfectly chosen; from the furniture to the pottery to the art to the lighting, it all came together so well. The guest rooms are SO nice and cozy. We couldn't get over the amount of thought that Amanda put in to the design and the little details. The bed is extremely comfortable, the room is ridiculously (in a good way) clean, and it just has such a nice at home, cozy feel to it that makes you never want to leave. One of the most important things to us when choosing somewhere to stay is the food. We can confidently say, that the food Joe prepared was some of the best food we have ever had. We love local, farm to table, fresh, simple but elevated style cooking and Joe is a wizard in the kitchen. The meals that he put together for breakfast were delicious. We also loved how they were pretty healthy as well and not overly indulgent, but did have a few things that were just indulgent enough without being over the top. We also opted to do the dinner at their home on Saturday night. There are some pretty great restaurants in the area, but I would recommend opting for the dinner at their house. It's a really enjoyable experience and you feel like you're out at a friends house for dinner (also you can just walk to it from the Villa, so no need to worry about a DD). The Villa is also in a really nice location where you aren't too far from towns or outdoor activities. Everything is a drive, so you can't walk, but it's not too far and the area is so pretty you won't mind driving around. There are probably countless other things I am missing right now, but all in all, 10/10 would recommend. If you appreciate great food, amazing service, a luxurious style of comfort that isn't over the top plus meeting new people, you won't be disappointed. The worst part about the whole trip was having to leave. We can't wait for our next trip up there.

(Cross posted to Trip Advisor.)…read more My husband and I just returned from a long Thanksgiving weekend away at the Woodstock Country Inn. From my first night there I was already wondering when we could come back. The house itself is lovely, and each room has a private porch or terrace. It's so peaceful and quiet and set back from the road by a long driveway, so it feels like a true retreat. We opted for the White Room, mainly for the king-size bed, and we loved it. Even though it was cold, we spent a good deal of time on the terrace just gazing at the mountain vista. I've been to yoga retreats where I didn't feel as serene and relaxed as I did on this trip. Also, if you have allergies, this is THE PLACE to book. I have really terrible allergies to dogs, cats, etc. and when I looked at the reviews for other Woodstock B&B's, almost all of them mentioned a proprietor's cats and/or dogs or being dog-friendly. I was so thrilled that this B&B is known for being hypoallergenic and not allowing pets. I knew I wouldn't have to deal with down pillows or comforters either, to which I'm also terribly allergic. The bed linens were clean without that antiseptic/bleach smell that's also an allergy trigger for me. I just felt super comfortable the whole time, which is so rare for me at any hotel or B&B. Carol, the owner, is absolutely lovely and a treat to talk to. I'd honestly love to spend more time with her and hear more about her life. And her assistant Tara (also lovely and a treat to talk to) made us a wonderful breakfast each morning, even picking up my requested goat cheese for my omelette! The drive into town is about 10 minutes or less, so you get the fun of being close to Woodstock with the serenity of a set-back farmhouse in Bearsville. We definitely want to come back in the summer when the saline pool is open!

Bed but no breakfast…read more We stayed in colonial Kingston for a conference and planned on staying for 3 nights, however we soon realized how terrible a host Bel, the innkeeper was. Upon arrival Bel assumed we drove to Kingston. I'm not sure why this assumption was made as there is a train station in the neighboring town which takes you directly to Manhattan. Rather than giving us the room we agreed upon via telephone, she put us in a creepy room not attached to the same building: actually it which was several blocks away from the main inn. Because we had no car, she squeezed us into her filthy pick-up truck and dropped us off and rushed out. No mention of what time and where breakfast was served. We were not provided any breakfast the morning after our first night's stay and she did not answer her phone around 7:00 a.m. when we wondered about this. This was confusing as the inn is marketed as a "Bed and Breakfast". We found our own breakfast and went on with our day. When we returned to our room in the evening, our room was not made. It was shocking as this is standard practice among the hotel industry regardless of whether you stay at a lower end BnB or at a high-end hotel. By then we were disgusted at how unprofessional she was and thus we told her we would only stay 2 nights (over 24 hours notice). By the second morning we called her inquiring about breakfast a second time. She simply replied by saying "well I can feed you if you want". How unprofessional and unwelcoming. Why run an inn if you do not want to welcome your guests? Although we gave her over 24 hours notice of our departure (again, the standard in the hotel industry) Bel still unjustly charged us for the third unused night. She also failed to give us our receipt, and we had to ask her 5 times for it. Only 3 days post-departure did we receive the receipt. After reviewing my banking, she had actually already charged the room prior to check-in. I would recommend avoiding this place at all costs.

Felt like a long lost friend I've had for years. Great, kind, gentle, beautiful soul the owner of the house is. Coming from Boston, I arrived to this beautiful Victorian with a huge lovely porch which is very tastefully decorated. The whole house is clean, smells amazing great decor, and Bel cooks one of the loveliest breakfasts. Omelette, coffee, juice, and granola/fruit/yogurt, turkey bacon. A++++ hostess! My room had a king poster board bed and one of the comfiest mattresses I've ever slept on. I can't say more good things about this place. But if you want a nice place to hang your hat, where you make a friend in the end Bels inn is where it's at. Excellent service, she's knowledgable about the town and places to go. It's the perfect getaway to de-stress and unwind meet amazing people and enjoy life, what was exactly what I needed. The prices are very reasonable and worth every penny! I'll be back very soon! Tim was a friendly host who provided a nice breakfast and great stories. Eating on the patio with other guests while enjoying the birds and river was memorable! The 1847 house is full of wonderful character right down to the creaky floors and steep stairs. But the apartment was very dirty: large dust clumps, pill under table, food bits in and around sink with bugs flying around, very dusty/grimy. Two windows didn't have privacy curtains making our daughters uncomfortable sleeping in the living room. And viewed from those windows was clutter in the adjoining indoor patio and crutches leaning against a fence. The bathroom was tiny, very tiny dirty shower with used loofa's inside, no TP holder and a plate of mostly used bars of soap. The common rooms were very cluttered. That beautiful long table was too cluttered to visit and the living room was cluttered with laundry and drying laundry. But if you go into it knowing that, it is a great experience because of the interactions with the people, location and this charming home. And it was our most comfy bed of the trip!!
