Mmm...probably one of the best meals I had while visiting the island! So much food, so much flavor--every bite was absolutely worth it. The plates were loaded with kimchi, macaroni salad, a cold pasta rice, and the most flavorful, perfectly seasoned meat. Everything balanced so well, and the portions were generous. The ladies in the truck were super friendly, which made the experience even better. Heads up, they do sell out of some items, so getting there early might be a good idea. The outdoor seating area was nice but limited to a few tables . Luckily we were able to get one . It was $75for two plates and one tea, which was a bit more than we expected, but honestly? For this kind of quality and flavor, totally worth it. Would 100% go back! read more

Food tasted OK, but the bowl was filled with rice and cabbage, and had barely any meat and noodles. Customer service wasn't too nice. plate was $25 and if it's that much you should at least get a good amount of meat and noodles, not just rice and cabbage. read more

"The Light of the North Shore during the storm" When the severe weather hit Koolauloa and entire State of Hawaii this week, even the largest establishments like Foodland and McDonald's had to close their doors, one small beacon remained: this incredible family-run Korean food truck at Polynesian Cultural Center- Marketplace in Laie, HI was open. While the rest of the island went dark, this family owned business run by husband, wife and 2 young men worked tirelessly from dawn until midnight. Families and couples and even children waited in the rain/cloudy weather patiently, evening offering help to lighten the demand. Despite the exhaustion and the overwhelming demand, they never complained and never turned a soul away. All they asked for in return was patience and a little appreciation. Shaka Shaka Bowl is such a cute spot for Korean-style comfort food, especially the shake bowl meals where you mix everything up in the container, super satisfying and flavorful. I got the bulgogi one and it came with all the fixings, plus the portions are generous. Only downside is the wait can be pretty long, even if you order ahead, so just plan accordingly. Still worth it though when you're craving something savory and filling! read more

I ordered one thing and the owner completely disregarded what I ordered. He made me some bowl of Korean food and then told me to put sauce on me like I've never been there before I've already been there multiple times and I guess he just decided to change my menu for me or on me. I wanted a spicy pork plate. He gave me a spicy pork bowl and spicy pork bowls 1899. The plate is $21. There's way more serving the bowl came with cabbage rice Maks salad spicy pork all in one bowl and then he wanted me to put sauce on everything and then shake the bowl is what he wanted me to do that's not what I wanted. Visited this morning as part of a whole island tour. The scheduled lunch was pounders but we had just visited yesterday when we visited the pcc so I didn't want to eat the same place twice in a row. Luckily, as I was leaving the pcc I saw two food trucks. As luck would have it our tour guide mentioned pounders was for lunch so I decided I'd try some Korean BBQ. BEST DECISION EVER!! Two ladies working hard preparing homemade Korean food. I want to venture a guess and say it was mother daughter but I can't be certain. They had a good chemistry working together. Now to the food. It's not on the menu but they definitely can do half and half with the bulgogi, pork and chicken BBQ. Note: kalbi and orange chicken can't be split. The flavors were huge!!! Love the sweet and savory korean bbq taste. Portions were huge! You can even add a piece of chicken. Some of the best Korean bbq I've ever had. Not sure who's reviewing the place this high. Food took over an hour to get as they lost my order and other folks were also looking to get a refund. Kept asking about my food and ended up losing my order and they expedited it but man the jap chae tasted like old shoes and the Kim chee wasn't great. As for the chicken and the pork the chicken was dry and the pork was edible. I would say skip this place for the taste and maybe service was bad because they were short staffed. My family and I love visiting the PCC Hukilau marketplace. It's a great place to eat, relax, and enjoy beautiful scenery and support local. Korean BBQ is one of my favorites so I had to try this place out. I will say the Kimchi was good and the flavor of the chicken and Kalbi wasn't bad either. I did think it could use a little more flavor, but it was still delicious. That said do NOT buy the orange chicken plate. I'm pretty sure they just bought a box of it from Costco or Sam's club and served it up. I did think for the price $25.00 a plate they could've served it with more meat and not pack the plate with rice. read more

Food is Ono. It's a better version of Cupbop in the mainland. Portions are bigger. Veggies are super fresh. Rice was on point. They're not stingy with their sauces. In fact, they let you pour however much sauce you want. People who own the truck are very kind, and the eating space is out in the open, so you get to enjoy the beautiful area of PCC and the backdrop of the beautiful mountains. read more

Service was great - super nice people. Unfortunately, as you might expect from a tourist spot where a large chunk of the visitors are coming in on buses (a.k.a. trapped with only these food trucks available). There's probably a 25% up charge based purely on the location. The Bulgogi bowl was good. Overpriced (based on size and the volume and amount of meat included in the bowl), but good quality and largely tasty food. The Kalbi plate was easily one of the worst restaurant meals I've had in a long time. Had I ordered only this, no doubt the one start I would've awarded this review would have been for the service; no stars for the food. Priced at almost $30, the value is easily under $18. Half of the clamshell the food came in was white rice topped with short ribs (sliced about a quarter inch thick); maybe 10 pieces of meat - very little meat and even less considering most of it was gristle and bone. The Mac salad was a sorry-sized serving (was it deliberate, or did a spoonful fall into my clamshell on the way to someone else's meal?) and tasted like it was mostly mayonnaise with a few noodles. Even though I ate this an hour ago, I didn't remember what the other sides were because they were so uneventful. If you can, bypass the PCC and head to Kahuku (or anywhere else) for food. read more

Owners take pride of their cleanliness, the preparation of food, sought out highest quality of ingredients and the finest meat you can't beat on the island to prepare your meal. Portion is good but the only issue i have was that there was a long strain of hair. My mother got me a plate from this place and it was the spicy pork. My hair is short and dark brown while my mom hair has highlights of light brown and the hair from the picture is black. Not only that , it was deep inside the food which was covered in its sauce. So it wasn't a hair that fallen on top of it. read more

This food truck is located at the Hukilau Marketplace at PCC. Lots of free parking. The bowls come in 2 sizes- regular and keiki. The prices are kind of steep for the size of the bowl but this place caters to tourists so over pricing is to be expected. They have variety of sauces- you self serve so you can mix and match and put as much or as little as you want. The sauces are numbered according to hotness. We tried the 1 and 4 and there was some heat but nothing too painful. The flavor of the food was good- lots of flavor so you don't need to add a lot of sauce. The rice is on the bottom so when you shake it up the rice pretty much ends up on top. You have to mix it with your fork to get a good mixture. We got the spicy pork and it was mild. There are picnic tables as well as some seating in the marketplace. The service was friendly and the wait for the food was a few minutes (no line in front of our order). If we were in the area, we'd come again. read more

Shaka Shake has been my staple for years now. It is nutritious, delicious, and addictive. The fresh ingredients used in their bowls combined with their array of sauces leave an explosion of flavor in your mouth. If you are craving a filling meal that still feels fresh and is packed full of flavor this is your spot. My favorite is the Spicy Pork Rice Bowl. The Service is amazing. The family that runs it are so nice and always prioritize the community. They just came up on their 4 year anniversary and I hope their are many years to come of delivering smiles on customers faces. My new location is here in Oahu hawaii located outside of the Polynesian Cultural Center. YummmmmEEEEE! Eaten here numerous times and different things. Nothing disappointing. One time I did get a small Shaka shake bowl (maybe it was for Keiki ) and I was upset--THAT I DIDN'T GET IT BIGGER! Bulgogi is so good. My favorite! Sometimes you'll wait a bit, there's usually a line and it's a food truck so it's kind of expected to wait, but once you get your bowl or plate, you'll be in food heaven. read more

Their food truck is located at the Polynesian Cultural Center. Good Korean food. I had the spicy pork in their Shaka bowl and their beef bulgogi plate. Both were good tasting. They also have six different sauces from mild to really spicy that you can put on your meat and rice. I would recommend the bulgogi plate with the side dishes. read more

The kalbi and pulehu are just about the same cuts of meats just a different marinade and you get to choose how you want it cooked. We got it medium rare. The area is a dead zone for phone service so although they'll call to let you know your order is ready, you may not receive the call. But the wait was expected so we decided to go hang around the beach while waiting. There was a line of people wanting to order. I'd recommend to go early in the morning while they still have everything in stock because we got there at about 10:45AM and they had just sold out of their peanut butter rolls! After we were walking around checking out the other options and we sampled a piece of chicken here. Even though we had just ate, we purchased some chicken to share because it was THAT good. We made small talk with the people there and ended up enjoying ourselves so much! A year later, I came back to Hawaii with my mom and this was our first stop. The same excellent customer service and the same excellent food. I cannot recommend this place enough, it will always be our goto when visiting Oahu!!!
