Dynamite! Clean! Food full of flavor. BBQ outside on charcoal . Very generous portions. If you pass by this place you're missing out. Fast service and very friendly .

The worst mix kalbi and meat Jin plate ever
    Carrie G.

Literally the WORST Korean bbq plate lunch I've ever had. The only redeeming thing about it was the kalbi was tasty. Otherwise it was terrible. We got the mixed kalbi and meat jun plate which was ~$20 before tip. The meat jun was tough and cold like it had been precooked earlier and barely warmed up. The veggies were the worst. I should have known something was off when the ban Chan wasn't on display and I didn't get to choose my sides. What I got served was watery, unseasoned cold canned corn. Bland kim chee (most likely from Costco, definitely not homemade or good quality) and plain Mac salad. As in, no mayo, salt or pepper, just plain noodles with a few shreds of carrots. The kalbi was bbq'd outside fresh upon ordering and the quality of the meat was good and the seasoning was also on point. Service was very nice and friendly which is why I think the reviews are so good bc there's no way the high reviews are based on food. As a local, I get irritated when I get caught in tourist traps like this so I'm sharing this review not to harm this nice small business but they really need to try harder.

Spicy Pork - comfort food to the max

Where to start? Korean BBQ at its best! Service was fast, friendly and food was awesome. Portions are generous and the larger plates can definitely feed two. We tried the Bulgogi, spicy pork, bbq chicken, garlic shrimp & short ribs. Everything was hot, tasty and filling. Rice was perfectly cooked. Forget the shrimp trucks... having been to at least 3 of the best on this island I'd rather go back here. Very well kept place and true Aloha vibe here!

OMG, rolled into this small local BBQ. Ordered from sweet lady, with a wonderful personality. Outside was the chef barbecuing (smelled delicious) ordered immediately and within short time we were served. All were delicious with generous portions. We will be back!!!!!

We were headed back to Waikiki from the Polynesian Culture Center and saw the sign for some Korean food. It was also raining so it was perfect to stop to grab some dinner. It is a small place that has a grilling tent out on the parking lot. That is where they grill their meats that give the perfect chargrilled flavor. Their kalbi was good with not too much fat but a lot of meat and the chicken was super moist and Smokey. It came with corn (from the can), macaroni (a bit oily) and kimchee (nice and spicy and fresh). Very tasty little place! The owner was also super interesting. Doesn't seem too friendly but super friendly haha. Meaning, he didn't smile but was very kind and checked in on each table. So don't be afraid to talk to him! He said he was from LA~ Most food items came in to go boxes but if you order soup, that came in a huge bowl (unless you specifically ask for it to go). When you leave, you just leave it on the table and he will clean the table.

BBQ Chix I love the hibachi BBQ taste. Not to happy with the Mac salad, but everything else made up for it! Love the fact that it's cooked with charcoal grill! Delish

Place was amazing!!! Staff very friendly, food was fresh made, and clean location felt like home. We had the BBQ Kalbi and the Butter Garlic Shrimp Pasta Spicy. We totally recommend when visiting.

My personal favorite is the kalbi ribs. They've got that backyard BBQ taste that feels like a homecooked meal, and it's usually what I end up ordering. Simple, comforting, and it just hits. I also love grabbing food here and taking it down the street to eat at the beach. It's one of those meals that feels even better when you're eating it by the water. The kalbi and pulehu are just about the same cuts of meats just a different marinade and you get to choose how you want it cooked. We got it medium rare. Kalbi is more like a sweeter Korean bbq and pulehu more smoky bbq. Meat was good and tender and shrimp was a nice creamy taste. Getting a bite of everything with the Mac salad is a must! Only downside is I tried to phone order in advance knowing they would be busy but I couldn't get the phone call through. We had to order once we got there and there was about an 1.5 hour wait for our order. The area is a dead zone for phone service so although they'll call to let you know your order is ready, you may not receive the call. But the wait was expected so we decided to go hang around the beach while waiting. There was a line of people wanting to order. I'd recommend to go early in the morning while they still have everything in stock because we got there at about 10:45AM and they had just sold out of their peanut butter rolls! It is cash only as well. Sad to see the business go but happy there is a lot of locals supporting them, giving fond farewells and wishing the Papa Ole's ohana the best!

Definitely worth stopping in at Seven Brothers Restaurant and or the bakery as well. Back to Mikes, You'll walk up and spot signage plus the yellow signature bus shack. I'd seen Mikes Huli Chicken on an episode of Diners Drive Ins and Dives and Guy said "the skin is as crispy as it gets next to being fried." That never left my memory. This being my next visit since seeing that episode, I had to try it. What did I order? - Mikes Huli Chicken Plate $17: 4/5 Stars - Chicken is a nice half chicken portion, perfectly juicy, nicely slight char taste. Crispy skin? Unfortunately no. - The Mac salad is nice. - Generous serving of rice *** Mikes Huli sauce is delicious! Be sure to find the self serve bottle and the to go sauce cups and get you some extra. You'll walk up and place your order at the window, pay, cash or card, then find yourself a seat. The cashier was simple and quick to the point. No small talk. Overall, I'd say if you're in the area, give it a try, it will neither blow your socks off nor disappoint. Mikes is a solid Huli Chicken plate. It simply delivers satisfying meal.

Meh. I feel like the quality of Mike's has gone downhill…read more I stopped by yesterday during a trip to the North Shore to get some lunch. I got the #9 plate, which is kalua pork, huli chicken, and I got mac salad. The kalua pork meat itself was fine. Not gristly and not too fatty. However, barely any smoke taste to it and was fairly bland. The huli chicken didn't have crispy skin. It seemed lukewarm like it had been cooked a while earlier and was just sitting. The sauce is amazing and I do think it's delicious with the sauce. Rice was just rice. Meh. Even adding shoyu didn't add much flavor to it, to be honest. The mac salad is extremely bland. I don't know if they need to add some acid to the mayonnaise or more salt, but it was pasty and no flavor. I would honestly skip getting the mac salad next time and get regular salad! That's how bad this mac salad was. Two slices of pineapple on the plate were fresh and flavorful. I did enjoy these. Service was okay. I had asked if they still honored kama'aina discount and was told no. That's fine; I understand not all places offer discounts. I don't know when kama'aina discount stopped being offered, but back in the day I used to receive it when asking. I did notice though that two guys who ordered before me got a "mahalo, braddah" in a friendly tone but I got a terse "thanks." Guess haole girls don't get mahalos even if local. It's just uncomfortable when certain people get friendly, effusive mahalos and others get terse thanks, like I didn't want to be serving you food today. Maybe cause it was Mother's Day and they didn't want to be there? Sure didn't feel like 'ohana today. So many flies around, it made eating uncomfortable. A few fly fans on tables but not at the one where I was seated, so it was basically like constantly shooing away flies and trying to take a bite of food super fast before they came back on my food. Probably I should have taken my food away and gone to the beer garden nearby with fewer flies. Meh. I used to really like Mike's but I will stick to Da Bald Guy and Seven Brothers when I visit the sugar mill in the future.

I have even traveled abroad in anticipation of experiencing the local cuisine. I was originally introduced to the world of phở by a Vietnamese friend a lifetime ago. I have been exploring the variations of the iconic dish ever since. My favourite restaurant in the world is Vietnamese-owned and operated, back in Canada. While visiting the Islands, I only recently had occasion to spontaneously stop and try "Pho Vientiane," a long-time frozen-in-place food truck--secreted along the Kamehameha Hwy, Hauula - on Oahu's North Shore. I was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality and selection of Vietnamese street food this wonderful eatery was offering. The proprietors of this humble food truck were quintessentially customer service-focused. The menu options are impressively diverse, especially considering the size of the space in which they are stored and prepared. The service was impressively expedient, and the quality and generous size of the offerings were extraordinary. I was sufficiently impressed by Pho Vientiane to offer up five stars for the authentic tastes they offer. They are every bit as addictive as those I experienced when I visited South Vietnam - back in the day.
