I'm so sure about this place. It comes as recommended and it comes not recommended. I went there. It was OK. I lived on the side of the island so I don't have much choice on to eat. It seems like it could be cleaner to be honest, but you know it is the west side of Oahu so you take what you can get. Additionally obviously I would say it's not so great neighborhood but then again the west side of Oahu is not a great neighborhood but just be worry about yourself what time you're going there? There's no reason to go there late late late at night unless you're looking for more than just that but yeah, as far as he goes, I'd say it's probably above the bar. read more

The service is generally friendly and fast. Although there are times when there's a bit of a line, it moves relatively fast. It's mainly take out. There's a beach across the street if you want to take a picnic dinner and have spectacular sunset views or take to your hotel room and make everyone drool. read more

Roast duck is not a quick dish to make. It takes so much time to acquire, prepare, marinade and roast this one dish. A look at the counter and you find even more hot, fresh items you can choose from. All ready for you to choose anytime. A recent survey asking for favorite roast duck on the island and this wasn't even mentioned, but it should be. There are very few places on the island you can get roast duck, let alone makes it in-house. My Roast Duck plate had rice, a quarter of the duck, cabbage and oyster sauce gravy. Great food! The front counter guy is a riot! Not sure if his name is "Bartholomew" or "Chester", I can never remember his name... The place is like walking into the bedroom of a 35 year old man-child who still lives with his parents, Lol. He's always got a Van Damme or Steven Seagal movie on the TV and he's either on the phone talking about how he "gets lotsa chicks" or playing Nintendo Duck Hunt, go figure. Christmas tradition to watch A Christmas Story and as I was watching this morning I realized they ate at a Chop Suey restaurant and it was just fate. My family is here for Christmas vacation and we totally forgot to buy lunch for today so we stopped given it was fitting. I was hesitant after reading old, poor reviews but I had a very different experience. Being from Seattle, I like to think of myself as spoiled when it comes to Asian cuisine and this is some of the best I've ever had!! Spoiled us with extra BBQ pork and egg rolls. Super quick service with non-ala carte orders. Got 4 lunch plates and chicken chop suey chow mein and would come back again and again!! This place deserves better ratings. read more

Makaha Chop Suey is located in the Makaha Marketplace. Right down the road from where I live on Makaha Valley Road. It's the last Chinese food establishment in the Waianae Coast. Makaha Chop Suey is basically for take out or catering. There are couple tables in this small food establishment in case customers want to sit down and eat in. Customers can choose between fried rice, chow mein, or chow funn for their main starch. There's sweet sour spareribs, beef broccoli, char siu, roast pork, meatballs, boiled eggs, mixed vegetables, shrimp canton, eggrolls, and some other items that I can't even think of at the moment. When I was standing in line to place my order I glanced around the establishment and noticed a white board saying that they have oxtail soup. There was also a notice saying CASH ONLY. I also noticed that there was a television for the employees to watch when it gets really slow. The few times I had ordered take out plate lunches from Makaha Chop Suey I noticed that the worker tends to give big portions of chow mein, chow funn, or fried rice. I watched the employee wash his hands before handling the char siu and chopping the char siu into pieces. Depending on what I order the plate lunches are always delicious and it tends to make me full. Sometimes I can't even finish it all so i save the rest of my meal for a later time. I noticed on the front window that Makaha Chop Suey had passed the Department of Health inspection. That's a major plus in my books. Whenever I do feel like eating Chinese and if there'e enough time before the bus arrives I'll stop by at Makaha Chop Suey and order a 2 choice or 3 choice plate lunch to go. read more

Keto friendly take out in Waianae! Tried the Meatballs and the Roast Pork. Meatballs were excellent taste and value; $1 for each tennis ball sized gem. The Roast Pork was solid. Well cooked with delicious, crunchy skin. At $14 a pound it's a little more than other places but worth it. The male that runs the front counter is rude and inconsiderate of his customers. He uses his gloves while handling food wipes it with a wet rag and does the transactions with money while using the same gloves and he helps the next customer. I paid for over $40 worth of food and while I was waiting I asked for some iced water. I was told no because all they had was the Pepsi soda cups. I asked that if I got my own cup from my car could they fill it with ice and water? Again, I was told no. Food 4/5 There is a lot of food to choose from and the food is pretty good with good size portions and cheap eats. My favorites are the roast pork which seems to always be crispy, the way I like it, roast duck, and black bean chicken. Their shrimp fried rice is pretty good too. Their food can be a little heavy on flavor and might be a little oily but it is Chinese food. Also pandas is overrated. I find better Chinese foods at little restaurants like this one. Service 5/5 Fun people working in the front. The brothers like to joke around and are really nice. My food was inedible. I think the cook ruined it intentionally with salt. We were going to dine in but they packed the food to go. It's a cash only place, so my husband went down the street to get cash while the kids and I waited for him. We had grabbed some happy meals from across the parking lot and halfway through the kids eating them (we waited quite a bit for our food to be done) I notice the lady glaring at us. I tell her, "I hope you don't mind the kids eating in here..." She points to a tiny sign on the wall and says, "Sposed to not". I tell her, "Oh, I didn't know, we won't do it again." (Should I have kicked my 6 and 3 year old outside with their food?!) Well, she made sure we wouldn't even be back to eat, let alone bring McDonalds into her joint. Take the time to get to know the owners and the world is yours. These guys will cook up anything you want. My cousin had caught a nice size Uhu and took it to these guys to cook and they hooked him up and barely charged him. He forgot his cooler and the Uhu might have spoiled bye the time he got back to the north shore. These guys readily helped him out. Usually go there to order char siu and roast pork but server can be very RUDE sometimes. I once called in an order, guy was rushing me, put me on hold w/out telling me to hold and then scolded me for asking questions. I understand he had customers waiting in line but that's no way to treat phone in customers. Guy should learn some manners I swear. read more
