Because they're located in Oakland they keep late hours for the college kids. Most nights they don't close until 2 a.m. That was always a bonus for us when we'd want their food later in the evening. Most times we'd walk over from Bloomfield. Sometimes not. Everything I've ever had was freshly made with the best ingredients. I love the chicken and rice platter. My boyfriend always got a gyro. I thought this spot was quite good and satisfying! There aren't a ton of halal places in Pittsburgh, so it's great to have a spot like this. I know this place is technically a chain, but it's not a huge one, and I still was craving some halal food. I've heard great things about the food. It was a great feeling to visit Pittsburgh over the weekend and find that Shah's opened a location outside the DMV. The Muslim double whammy of Jumuah + Shah's for lunch simply cannot be beat, Alhamdulillah. I will restate what I wrote about their original location too: the food is so delicious and the combination of sauces, veggies, meat, and rice so outstanding that I feel guilty wasting my time and money with Halal Guys. A great place to grab a quick bite to eat that is not just a fast food joint. The food is fresh and made to order right on the spot. My nine year old and I shared a chicken and rice with salad which was delicious. I ordered falafels which were a bit overcooked but we're still tasty just wish they had not cooked so long. My son ordered a side of spicy chicken wings but he said they were not even spicy so he was a bit disappointed. Cheap, tasty and good service. I picked up a lamb platter, a combo platter and french fries. Yummy!! They didn't cost more than $23. The staff were nice and generous with the sauces. I just wish they had both white rice for a change and not just brown. But their brown rice is still good.They also let you pick whatever veggies you want (see pictures). Issues: Their falafel is not good to be honest. The service changes sometimes depending on the people and that is why I'm giving four. Parking: It's hard to park in that area. I don't understand why this place has good ratings on help. To call what I ordered a 'gyro', albeit I realize what I ordered was a chicken gyro, is a joke. It was a chicken shawarma at best, and not a good one at that. I've had lots of shawarmas from different places including Lebanese, Turkish, Syrian, Iranian, Israeli, and I don't know what that was they served me... 'Gyros' don't have cumin in the marinade, and should come with tzatziki, not whatever is in that packet labeled 'White Sauce'. The default options for toppings were lettuce and 'salad', which would be okay, but all I got was bright red, overcooked and spicy (?) chicken, dry white meat, with no veg whatsoever beyond the onion cooked with the chicken. I've ordered the Lamb over Rice, Kofta over Rice, Mixed Meats over Rice and all have been so tasty, moist and delicious. The Kofta is spicy. Choose salad or pepper and onions(my fave) to go with the meat and rice, both are great. The sauces, red, white or green are all good. The white ameliorates the spiciness of the Kofta. Portions are generous, meat was flavorful, and plenty of the sides/sauces. The white sauce reminds me of Halal Guys! We also tried the green sauce which was also good but definitely prefer the white sauce. They were pretty greasy but it is kinda like fast food. It was also really cheap - I don't think we paid more than $20 for both platters. There is outdoor seating available so we are right outside, which is nice with COVID still going on. This storefront location opened up recently, separate from the street cart usually located near UPMC Presbyterian on Fifth. This location is well placed in south Oakland, and offers a few meal choices, including platters and gyro wraps. You are able to fully customize the platters and add several toppings, including chickpeas, hummus, tomato, peppers and onions. The white sauce is quite good and I would recommend. From the very beginning, we noticed we had been delivered the wrong order which is equally their fault as it is the uber eats driver's, so I can't blame them entirely. Alas, we ate the food which was served cold, we were dissatisfied with the texture of the lamb. When we finally received our fries and baklava, the fries were burnt on the outside and undercooked on the inside. Despite the baklava's beautiful appearance, the mirage quickly faded as the first bite felt like biting into sand. The flavor was good, but the dryness destroyed its entire appeal.
