Shop recently opened and seems popular. I wanted to go to the grand opening but the line was out the door and wrapping around the grocery store near it. Ever since then I have thought about trying it because I wondered what kind of food could have that effect on people. The food seems okay. It's really interesting that one of their sauces is a green mint chutney sauce. I think that sets it apart from other similar platter shops. Besides that, orders take a while with maybe two workers putting orders together and a lot of customers doing online pickup orders. The meat is sitting in precooked trays instead of being freshly cooked. The rice is a skinnier grain than I prefer from platter shops. Might just be me but it's the kind of rice that can't absorb the flavor from what you pair it with. Most of the flavor is coming from the sauce instead of the meat, rice or salad. I can't really excuse these faults because this is supposed to be the 100th location of this chain. It didn't taste bad, but I think there are a lot of other shops or even trucks to compare it to and I didn't think it could hold its own.

New York Fried Chicken - White sauce is ridiculously good.

New York Fried Chicken

I recently tried New York Fried Chicken in Woodbridge, New Jersey, and this place definitely…read moredeserves some love! First off, all of their food is halal, which is a huge plus for anyone looking for halal options without sacrificing flavor. The fried chicken is seriously delicious. It has that perfect crispy coating on the outside while staying moist and tender on the inside. And the flavor is on point--you don't need to drown it in sauce just to make it taste good. This chicken can stand on its own but adding a little hot sauce to it takes it to a whole another level of flavor!!!! And let's talk about the chicken wings! I'll admit, they may look a little small when they arrive, but don't let their size fool you. These wings are packed with flavor and are absolutely delicious. Crispy, seasoned well, and definitely worth ordering. I also loved their plates, where you can choose between rice or French fries and then top it with your choice of chicken or spicy chicken. Everything comes together really well, and the portions make for a satisfying meal that can easily feed one very hungry person or two people. Not only do they serve the best chicken they also have gyros, burgers, sandwiches and a few other delicious options to choose from. Overall, New York Fried Chicken is a great spot if you're craving crispy, flavorful fried chicken, wings, gyros, or a hearty plate. The halal menu is an added bonus, and the food definitely brings the flavor. Sometimes the little places are the ones that surprise you--and this one did!

Wow, who knew!? New York Fried Chicken was great, as was the service. I had just walked from the…read moreWoodbridge Train Station and wanted a quick bite. I saw the unassuming NY Fried Chicken and walked in. It's halal and the menu is essentially fried chicken, chicken over rice, and burgers. I went with the three piece chicken only and was impressed. First thing one notices is the great service and the respect. Not an ounce of bad attitude here. This was the standard years ago, but stands out today and deserves attention for how rare it is to experience these days. I ordered just the fried chicken: breast, thigh and drumstick. I asked for crispy and spicy and he said they only have regular. I ate it after about thirty minutes and it was still very crispy, audibly crispy. I don't know if they double fry it, but it seems so. It's crispy outside and juicy inside, even the breast was not dried up. The only quibble was the batter is not seasoned in conformity with your expectations. It's different and still good. The hot sauce they give you is also not what you would want, but your favorite sauce would put this chicken over the top. New York Fried Chicken is fairly priced. The three piece will run you seven bucks and reasonable in these inflationary times. It's a clean restaurant and mainly takeout. A table runs across the front of the restaurant. New York Fried Chicken is great and I would happily return. 3.9 stars!

Jose Tejas - Iselin, NJ…read more First things first... those Jose Tejas chips are downright ADDICTIVE! Freshly made, served warm, and paired with their delicious house salsa. You tell yourself you'll just have a few, but before you know it, the basket is disappearing! And I'm sure anyone who's been here knows exactly what I'm talking about! Jose Tejas has been a popular destination in the Iselin/Woodbridge area for years, bringing together the bold flavors of Tex-Mex cuisine with a little Cajun and Creole influence. It's a lively, casual restaurant with a fun atmosphere, generous portions, and plenty of familiar favorites that keep people coming back. The restaurant itself hasn't changed much, but the menu has been condensed since COVID. Thankfully, they've kept many of the longtime favorites, so no complaints here! We started with a bowl of Louisiana Gumbo, loaded with chicken and sausage, garnished with white rice and fresh green onions. A hearty, flavorful way to kick off the meal! For entrees, we went with: Mesquite Chimichurri Steak: A tender skirt steak, seasoned and grilled over mesquite wood, cooked perfectly medium, sliced, and topped with their fresh herb Chimi Verde sauce. Served with crispy shoestring fries. The smoky flavor from the mesquite grill paired beautifully with that fresh, flavorful sauce. Beef Burro: A generously stuffed, large fresh flour tortilla filled with tender marinated beef and cheese, smothered in homemade enchilada sauce and served with your choice of side. Comfort food at its best! Service was quick and attentive. Our server was always on top of refilling those HUGE glasses of water. Another nice perk: soft drinks and iced tea come with free refills, and so do the chips and salsa! Did I mention those chips are addictive? LOL! Jose Tejas continues to be a great spot for flavorful Tex-Mex and Cajun-inspired comfort food, generous portions, and a lively dining experience. Whether you're a longtime regular or visiting for the first time, there's plenty to enjoy. Definitely worth a visit. Just don't blame me if you fill up on the chips before your food arrives! You have been warned!
