I will try and keep this long story short. Ice fell 17ft from the roof onto our HVAC system. Another company came out said it couldn't be fixed and wanted to replace the system at a price of $8000. Shafer came out banged out the dents and got the system running for $175. Fast forward, the system stopped running a year later. Shafer did their best to repair it because our insurance company didn't want to pay for replacement, but it failed again this year. At this point they went above and beyond to show our insurance company how the initial damage from the ice had caused it to keep failing. I would avoid this company. They installed my furnace and have done the service on it for a few years. I had a problem and had them come and look at it. This is a rental and they did the work I requsted but not satifactory. What they did want was to do a bunch of inspections and talked my tenant into charging me. They should have called me to get permission. But they didnt. I would avoid using this company they like to gouge and over charge for things that dont need to be done. read more

I called them a bunch of times for the free quote. Took forever to get on the book. Literally months. I live literally live half a mile away from Shafers Hayden Office didn't think it would be so difficult. After calling countless times I missed the call for the schedule I called back finally got scheduled. We had a set day and time. They came early and I missed them. Even tho I told them I would be gone earlier that day and the time set was when I would be there. They did come back so that was good. But then I got my "free quote" and it had 2 lines vague description one for $330 and a line for $120 and the total was $1570... I asked for a more visible break down of how the $330 makes its way to $1570 also asked about one of THEIR stoves to be added to the quote.. I send 4 emails over the span of a month. No reply. So clearly they don't want my business. So I will figure it out with a company who actually prioritizes their potential future customers. No I would not recommend them. read more

Horribly ran operation these days. I had an appointment scheduled and nobody showed up. Not even a phone call. I phoned in twice and was met with "I don't know I'm just the book keeper". Great excuse. Finally they sent a tech out two days late, I thought to start work. Nope. She looked around said it was too hot to start and they'll be back the next day first thing in the morning. "Great" I thought. Except they never showed up. Again no phone call. I've used these guys in the past and had great experiences but not anymore. The last time they were here I was charged for an additional hour of work when there was no work. It was a 15 min job. Now this scheduling issue. We contacted Chuck about getting a fireplace installed. We had originally asked about a timeline and he said about 2 weeks. They came out and measured the location where we wanted it installed. Then nothing.??? I called twice to get the quote, both times Chuck verified my contact info but they never called back or emailed the quote. Still no fireplace - I wouldn't recommend this company. I can't imagine getting part way through the job and then no response from this company. read more

When into Shafers looking for a natural gas stove. Met Chuck the salesman that took us through a very good tour of what we should know about the stoves and what our needs were. Very knowledgeable, about the products they carry. We had such a good feeling with the company, made up our mind right there we didn't need to shop around. They installed a week later, and for Idaho that's really fast!! Guys showed up on time, very professional and friendly, answered all our questions. When you hire a company to take care of the infrastructure of your home, what do you want? Reliability, prompt honest service, and quality product. That's all you get with Shafer's. They have been taking care of our furnace/heat pump for the last 18 years. Had to install new furnace this spring. Gave us a fantastic deal, but forgot to install a new filter cabinet. When I contacted Tim he immediately scheduled a crew to come out and make it right. One of the tech's was wearing the Shafer's sweatshirt that says "Whatever it takes" on the back. Thank you Shafer's for being a company that a family can depend on to do whatever it takes to keep your home heating and cooling system in top condition. I was already convinced but even more so now. **Update** Date purchased: 2/7 projected install: 2/14 Finished date: 3/19 (Not a typo) The stove finally got installed. Nick, who finished the project, was very nice. He straightened out the leg so there wasn't cardboard making it stable. It's a nice stove and very toasty! The gentleman who set the tank shook his head at all the lengths pipe it took to plumb it from the stove to the tank; 4 in a 10 foot span. Looked like left over pieces from the last projects. The propane guy kept shocking himself when he tried to fill the tank and my husband unplugged the fan. The guy said the pipe should have been grounded and that wasn't done. My mom waited for a call from Chuck because he said he wanted her to be completely satisfied. That didn't happen (Are you surprised? Me neither!) She called left a message for him to call her, no return call, she called again and he finally called back. She let him know that the propane guy thought the pipe needed grounding. This was new to him. He and the guys would have to research that! If time is no object, you don't mind calling to see when they might start, no follow up to see if you were happy with how everything turned out, Shafer's maybe for you! For us, we need to have the assurance that a wood stove install is done by people who want our business and know theirs, not just in the beginning to sell us something, but through out the project, and after it's done. Maybe there is no such thing any more of that kind of business practice, but I'm going to look for it! read more

Had them come out for a estimate on an new AC install in my house. The sales guy seemed nice and knowledgeable and gave a decent quote on a right sized unit. Plus they came out for the estimate the next day when every other company was going to be two weeks to get out here. When I called him back after the weekend because I was ready to go with them, I asked him what he could do for me price wise, just trying to negotiate a little. He said he couldn't do anything. I said ok, well I still would like to go with you, but can you give me a more thorough break down of the quote, i.e. the price of the unit, the coils, and the labor broken out. He told me he would have to look it up when he was back at his desk and call me back. I said ok and waited... and waited... and waited. I gave him a call back the next day and left a message... nothing. Finally my wife called a few days later and spoke to someone in the office and told them what was happening and asked them to have him call us back... still nothing. In the end it was good we didn't use them because we got a way better deal (More then $600 less) and faster service from ACI. read more

These guys are great! They came in and installed 2 AC systems and did a great job. They were replacing an existing system that was poorly installed and did not cool the house. Did a fantastic job.
