I've played golf all over the world. I've been treated well at most of the courses I've played and seldom had a negative experience. This course has the nicest staff I have ever interacted with. The shop staff starter and cart attendant were second to none the best. Joe the starter might be the nicest human I've ver met. The course was a great value. We played it out of season so the rough was dormant. I would love to play it during peak time. It was fun and challenging. Highly recommend. read more

We decided to visit ShadowGlen to play a round of golf with my family, since we're moving to Manor in a month and wanted to try it out. We had two people playing and two cart drivers, occasionally switching off. During our round, the course marshal, John, stopped by our cart three separate times to tell us to either speed up or let people play through. Each time, we graciously allowed faster groups to pass. At no point did we have anyone waiting behind us--we were mindful of pace and courteous throughout the round. Still, the constant interruptions left us feeling rushed, and because of that we only managed to play 12 of the 18 holes. Golfing is supposed to be a relaxing escape from the busy pace of life, but this experience felt anything but that. After finishing in about 4.5 hours, we returned our carts and clubs. That's when we were pulled aside for a "sit-down" conversation by a staff member, who told us multiple members had complained that we were "all playing at once" and that we hadn't purchased enough bags. The marshal even suggested that if we were beginners, we should consider playing elsewhere and "save our money." For reference, it was $79 per rental bag, $89 per person to play, and $20 for two burgers and a bag of chips. At those prices, we expected a course that matched the beautiful photos online, but it simply didn't. Overall, the food was a 3/10, and the service a 1/10. Sadly, we won't be returning to ShadowGlen. If you're looking for a more welcoming and laid-back course, I'd recommend Jimmy Clay--no rushing, no lectures, just golf. read more

Nice layout, greens were a little slow and furry. We played in late March and the course was a bit dry. Probably weather related coming out of the winter season. We were in town for three rounds of golf at different courses and this one was by far the most expensive and the worst. The other courses had GPS in the carts and this one does not. We couldn't find any ball washers, which is really needed in this muddy course. Each hole only had a hole number but no signage as to par or distance or direction. The greens were all crab grass and could use some landscape assistance. Watch out for the Starter who yells at you to stay off the fairways to keep the course pretty, but it is not well maintained, so doesn't make any sense. The course was also packed on a Saturday pushing play to over five hours. There were Rangers but they didn't seem to help speed up play. The beer selection is pretty good and there were at least three beverage girls driving the course. There is a pizza grill at the turn. Parking was limited and we will not be returning. read more

My friends and I came here for my birthday! It was a fun fulfilling golf day! I was even given a $100 bill by another golf player I didn't know. He over heard it was my birthday and said it was tradition for him and his old military unit to do something like that. My friends and I being veterans ourselves, we were like wow that's way cool! I was really impressed when I came here with my friends on my birthday. This golf course is really fun to play on. Their driving range is not bad at all. You get a code to get a bucket of balls. Before you know it your tee time is coming up. So if you're planning to warm up, make sure you get yourself early. Now for the beer and snacks at their lounge was amazingly priced! They have a great selection of beers. Overall this place is beautiful and gorgeously maintained. Plenty of parking, however, definitely get here on time to get your 18 holes in. I am looking forward to coming back and hitting some balls again and play game on the course. read more

Good staff, genuinely fun and challenging layout. Clubhouse and amenities are decent. The course is just in absolutely terrible shape. Overgrown tee boxes, giant bald spots on greens. Greens that have literal patches of clover and weeds. Other greens are multi-colored sprayed over with something to make it look green but it looks blue instead. Fairways with bald spots and bad grass everywhere. The driving range is a barely-mowed field. Much of the course is wet and soggy as they are prone to flood damage. I can't believe it's $80+ to play when it's in that kind of shape. I'm sure these folks are trying to make this as good of a course as possible to play, but it's just not paying off yet. Also strange that they don't serve hard alcohol in their clubhouse; beer, wine, and shooters only. This place needs some serious outside investment to help mitigate water damage and bring the course back up to standard. Otherwise it's simply just not worth it for the price at all. read more

I occasionally tag along when my guy golfs - lovely ride together in a park for me, some us time, etc. Today he and his bestie had a tee time at Shadowglen. The bestie is a walker - he's got one of those golf stroller thingys for his gear. It's about 46 degrees and breezy. And we get to the 1st tee box ... most of the fairway for hole 1 is underwater. They can tee off but have to drive halfway around the back of the course to get their next shots. Me and my guy are slightly inconvenienced - we're in a golf cart. Our walker? Screwed. So he goes back into the clubhouse to see about a solution. Shadowglen's 'solution' was to charge him full price for a cart (that he would only need for one hole). I get that flooding due to rain is outside their control. But I think it's a jerk move not to come up with a better solution for their patrons. We won't be back. read more

Got cussed out by the "superintendent". We messed up and did drive on a fairway that was cart path only. But thought since we paid full price and they were aerating in the middle of our round (never told us at check-in about aerating or cart path) there could be some leeway. Regardless having the superintendent cuss and start a fight was unacceptable. Then found out his daddy owns the course so it explains a lot. In all honesty course was overpriced and the rough was very long so if you didn't hit fairway you lost your ball. Staff said superintendent doesn't know what he's doing yet. read more

Went to play here today and I was disappointed. It cost $80 to play and the rental set was almost as much as the round. Given this high price, the course conditions were terrible. The fairways were patchy and the greens were sandy and also patchy. On-course yardages were sparse without traditional 200-150-100 markers. The front 9 layout was bland but the back 9 layout was a little better. If the fees were halved these course conditions would have been somewhat acceptable. One plus to this experience - the service was good and saw the person taking orders 4 times. :) I really appreciated her! read more

Booked a tee time for myself and three of my friends that were visiting from Pennsylvania, we got some rain last night and it flooded the bridges, so they closed the course. My issue is that there was no communication from the golf course, we drove 30 minutes there to find out and couldn't get a tee time at any other course. Ruined our day! read more

I am part of a group that hosted a golf tournament at Shadow Glen and we had a delightful experience. It was refreshing to be able to finally have this event after postponing it 2 times due to Covid. This was a rebuilding year for us and we had less golfers than previous years but it all worked out in the end. The course was beautiful and I heard great things from all the golfers. I personally enjoyed driving my cart on the wooden bridges and the cemetery in the middle of the course .. so unique. Kirk was super friendly, understanding and easy to work with. Darren was also helpful as we were setting up, jumping in to play last minute to fill a hole and during the dinner afterwards. He even jumped in and helped us announce all the winners. Thank you to you both for being excellent hosts! The food here was decent and the beer selection was appreciated! If you are considering having a golf tournament I'd definitely recommend Shadow Glen! read more

Was there Dec 29. Man at counter said $81.00 per player? I said "what?" He said it was holiday period. No senior rates , no military rates. shocked me. Used to pay more for nicer courses that provide free range balls and tees. Course in good condition. Slowed down near end of round. No way is this course worth $81.00 per player. We left feeling ripped off. Go to other courses in the area where they charge half as much. For the same condition course. We promised ourselves never go back. I've avoided this course for years as I heard it was a tricked up dog track. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Is it in private CC shape, no? Is it a beat track, heck no? I paid $30 for 18 with a cart and walked off 18 saying I can't wait for a replay. Set your expectations accordingly and you will have fun. There are some long holes but some short ones are sprinkled in to gain back a stroke or two. You definitely need to have some course knowledge as there are some hidden creeks and some greens that are tucked in bowls. I do agree the greens have some crazy undulations and guarding a par 5 green with a tree is kind of unfair but the good outweighs the bad. One major nit the traps. Mud traps? C'mon that's just wrong especially with traps guarding the greens. Lastly, this is not a dig on the course but on the golfers who play here. Fix your ball marks on the greens and rake the traps when you are done. Respect the course and the players behind you. There Is no reason why you Joe hacker can't take 5 minutes to rake a trap especially as it took you 2 tries to get out. Yea we could see the carnage with your foot steps and divots. Pro tip... Today was not great all the way around. First, when we arrived, there wasn't enough parking, so we had to park in the grass/mud. The driving range was closed, but no one told us that. We found out after showing up early and driving down there. They put too many groups on the course. It took us an hour to play the first three holes. It got a little bit better after that. But the entire round took 5+ hours. We were typically having to wait at most every hole. The course had 2-3 feet of water in the bunkers from the rain a couple days ago, and we didn't get so much as a warning about that from the clubhouse or starter. I actually lost one ball I hit in the bunker by the green because the water was so deep I couldn't even see my ball. They did not adequately staff for food and beer. The cart girl ran out of Dos Equis by noon and ran out of Lonestar the next time we saw her. They were also out in the clubhouse at the turn. And they were out of any hot food in the clubhouse. No hot dogs or sausage wraps. I was starving so I bought a turkey sandwich. Imagine taking only one slice of thinly sliced deli meat turkey, putting it between two pieces of white bread and putting one slice of cheese on it. That was the sandwich. It mostly tasted like bread. I remembered playing here a couple years ago and really enjoying it. I was excited to play again. But... no parking, no range, no food, no beer, poor course conditions. I don't know what the heck happened. But there are too many decent courses nearby to ever play ShadowGlen again. read more

Course is in awful condition. Weeds all over the green that constantly moved my ball like a pinball machine. Fairways were comparable to a dead lawn. Constantly hitting off of dirt and mud in the fair ways. Tee boxes were nice though. Do not recommend playing here. read more

I recently golfed here and was quite impressed with what I found at Shadowglen - - almost like an oasis in the middle of the desert since it's located off of 290 East on the outskirts of the Austin and Manor border. I didn't know what to expect since I am familar with Bluebonnet Golf Course - located realtively nearby off of Decker Lane, but I must say I was pleased. I do not consider myself a golf fanatic, I picked up the game in '97 when Tiger won his 1st Masters and also took a couple of classes. After going through a golf binge for a couple of summers I now golf a few times each year - - if that. I have golfed at some nice courses (Presidio, Doral, Grand Traverse) and while Shadowglen doesn't rank well among those courses, I'd say they do a pretty good job with what they have to work with. So a monthly golfer like me may be satisfied with this course, and perhaps an amateur may be comfortable here, and a pro may get the hang of it quickly after a few tune ups. Golfing has gotten more expensive around here in the past few years, but this place manages to offer reasonable rates. Here's the pricing breakdown (per their website, all rates include a golf cart, ProLink GPS w/ real time scoring, and 1 round of golf): Standard Rate: Mon - Thur = $31.99; Fri = $39.99; Weekends / Holidays = $44.99 Twilight Rate (after 2pm): $26.99; $34.99; $39.99 Senior Rates (60+) and Jr. (under 18): $23.99; $29.99 This course does have it's challenges. It was hilly at times and some holes were not too straight-forward. Overall the greens were in pretty good shape and ran fast on this day. Some holes also had steep drop offs surrounding them (filled with shrubs, weeds, trees) which could easily put you in a predicament if you overshoot, so of course I lost some balls. FYI - I got there late and my friends were already on the 7th hole, however, the manager was flexible and let me meet them on the 9th hole and charged me a discounted rate ($18). I was very pleased as he didn't have to do that and it was greatly appreciated. After your game is done hit the clubhouse - - the bar will discount your first pint of beer ($1) amongst 4 choices of brew. There's also a flat screen TV there if you want to catch something on the tube as well. Overall I enjoyed my experience here and thought it was worth it, I will definitely go back to Shadowglen in the near future to work on my Pro Card (whatEVER!). read more

Came in to Austin for a bachelor party. The communication with the pro shop staff leading up to the weekend was great. Excellent customer service, very friendly, and very accommodating. We ended up having a group of 9 so we played 3 groups of 3. Course condition was okay, not great but I've definitely played worse. Probably the most notable takeaway from the day was the egregiously slow pace of play. I was in the first threesome which in my group we had a 5, 10, and 20 handicap amongst the group (me being the 20). There was a foursome in front of our group and through the first 4 holes we assumed the slow play was due to number of groups on the course that day. We finished the front in 3 hours. Not even kidding. Luckily it didn't really bother us as we were having such a good time yuckin' it up. As we began the back nine it became noticeably slow. To the point where we all fell completely out of rhythm due to the waiting between shots. And it absolutely was entirely the group in front of us as once we got a clear view of the several holes in front they were clear at least two in front of them. Toward the end of the round we were all very agitated, especially the low handicap guys. Nonetheless, this course is a great value with everything from the green fee, club rental, F&B, etc. They just need to have a marshal out on the course keeping things moving. That would make it a pretty solid all around place to place regularly. read more

One of the best rounds I've had this year at a course that was so much fun I can't wait to return! We had low expectation last Sunday and I was prepared to freeze. Instead the weather was gorgeous sunny and about 60, I shot a 78 with a very near hole-in-one. Just had a blast with some Austin locals. Greens are very dramatic, challenging, and scary at times. Some blind shots but not too bad. Every hole was memorable. Staff super friendly. read more

Course condition is poor and the rate of play is painfully short. I cut my round short by 4 holes after the 5 hour mark. Not worth the $50+ green fee when you can play Country clubs for that rate on Golf Now. That being said they have great golf carts with USB plug-ins and a friendly staff. read more

Just finished a six hour, hot round at Shadow Glen and the course is in great shape for mid summer. Tee boxes and greens were lush and well kept. The beer cart girls are friendly and come around often (give them Austin Eastciders to sell). Even the maintenance crew are friendly and courteous. Proof that it only takes one jackass on your staff to ruin your business. We started 30 minutes late due to a clusterfrack at the #1 tee box. There was no starter and 4 groups trying to start all at once. Everyone was annoyed and frustrated. One of my group called the clubhouse to find the starter and sort things out. The kid that came out made things worse and when asked what happened to get everything so messed up he said "nothing, this is normal". With no rain or technical delay theres no excuse to already be 30 minutes behind at 8 am. When i questioned again he became agitated and adversarial (raised his voice..i did not). I asked if any of the piled up groups maybe jumped ahead of their time and he snapped "NO" but he hadn't even talked to all of them yet ( i was watching the whole time). He insisted this delay was normal so i gave up and said "ok we'll just have to agree to disagree" and he popped off again! Finally i said "ok whatever, I'm done arguing with you, go sort it out and watch your mouth". He then threatened to kick me off the course. That would have been fine with me but not wanting to impact my group I just ignored him. Clearly this kid has never had any customer service training and sure everyone has a bad day once in awhile but he was a grade A jerk. Later we found out that someone had called in sick and this guy wasn't even the starter. No wonder. All he had to say to people was "Hey we're short handed today but we're working it out and we appreciate your patience" and everyone would have been totally cool. Instead he chose to be difficult and rude. To top it all off he let a fivesome go off and when somebody asked about it he said the fifth was a "special member" who would only play nine. UM..It's a public course (typically no fives) and the fivesome played all 18..VERY SLOWLY. Six hour round. So I'll play Shadow Glen again but not soon. Hopefully that rude kid has been retrained or fired by then. read more

I recently decided to play ShadowGlen after finding a great deal on GolfNow, after booking I read some yelp reviews and thought I had made a mistake and even tried to cancel. I am so glad that I did not cancel. Not only was the course far better than I expected it , Brett was so nice. We were running late because of the construction on 290 and somehow got turned around, so we called ahead to say we were running a few minutes behind and they were so nice. Once we arrived we asked if we could hit some balls before we started and Brett said it was fine, to take our time and we could go out whenever we were ready. I absolutely will be back. The course was in great shape, it was a fun course to play, I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the elevation changes, the bunkers, there was a lot of variety in the holes and it made for a great afternoon of golf. Also, the clubhouse was very nice. read more

Course is not ready for re-open, even two months later. Weeds and dead grass everywhere. Greens were better than the fairways, which were horrendous. Even the bunkers had weeds, and this is a tell-tale sign of poor course maintenance. Even worse, they've deleted all reviews on Google Maps (mine included). I'm tired of giving them second-chances. They should be charging $25 or $30 at most. Even Lions is in better shape! read more

Played a relatively steady Sunday round. Pace of play not bad. Staff were all fine. The course wasn't terrible - some damage to greens in places and they clearly hadn't been cut. But all told the fees were over $80! Have to say that that's a bit cheeky given the conditions! read more
