Stayed here in 2015 and loved it so decided to return. On previous visit when owned by the Brewster family, the cabins were decked out LL Bean style with cozy furnishings and blankets, etc. meals were served in dining room by European college students. The food was fantastic. You could buy wine.
The view is spectacular. You have to hike 14K to get there but totally worth it. You can't drive up so you have to carry your stuff in a backpack. No problem.
A couple of weeks before our trip I decided to take another look at their website. My husband made the reservation without reading up on the changes. The Brewsters sold it to the Alpine Club of Canada and it's gone all rustic. You have to carry linens and towels or sleeping bag up. No food is served. So you have to carry all your food in. The hike is 4-5 hours so you can't really take perishables like meat or dairy. This completely changes the nature of the trip. Who wants to cook up canned food after hiking all day? Considerably more weight in the backpack with food and sleeping bag. Nonetheless we decided to soldier on as we had already invested $800+ and there's no cancellation.
About a week before the trip I developed debilitating plantar fasciitis. My podiatrist said I needed to rest the feet. There was no way I could make that hike when I could barely walk around my house. I called and pleaded my case and offered to send documentation from my
Podiatrist. They were completely unsympathetic. Said no refund. She didn't even say, "I hope you feel better". So I'm out a big chuck of $.
Frankly I think it's very pricey ($800 for 3 nights) for what you get. Yes, the view is spectacular. But that doesn't cost them anything. No food, no linens, carry your trash out, and no WiFi. read more
