Food Stall inside Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) - Plaza Adelante
    Cherylynn N.

Food envy. Last time when I was eating lunch at MEDA (Mission Economic Development Agency), I saw some guys devouring food from Ceviche 19. And, it looked bomb. So bomb...that *DROOL* dribbled down from the corner of my mouth. I didn't want to be a heffer ordering a second lunch so I made a mental note to return. Four months later and still no Yelp listing for Ceviche 19?! But, they seem to be fav among locals in The Mission. Several regulars just sat down without going to the counter to order, and the owner/chef brought them food. Ceviche 19 is a Peruvian Food Stall located inside MEDA - Plaza Adelante. They're open for takeout, dine-in, and delivery (DoorDash). They're also two other food stalls in the lobby area (El Corazón Cafe and a Torta + Juice Stall). Hours of Operation: Sign outside says, Monday - Saturday, 10:30 AM - 6 PM. Menu says, Monday - Saturday, 11 AM - 6 PM. DoorDash says, Monday, Wednesday - Saturday, 11:30 AM - 6:10 PM. I arrived at 11:30 AM but they didn't open until 11:45 AM so def call ahead of time if you have time constraints. M E N U Peruvian Cuisine - Causa: Layered potato casserole ($10.99-$23.99), Ceviche ($14.99-$21.99), and Lunch Specials; e.g. Seco de Cordero: Lamb Shank w/ rice, Tallarin con Pollo: Spaghetti w/ chicken, etc. ($23.99-$39.99). Cc's accepted. O R D E R I N G For dine-in, place your order at the counter and they'll bring your order to you. Pay after you're done eating. F O O D * Seco de Cordero: Lamb Shank w/ rice, beans, and salsa criolla (Menu - $23.99/POS system - $22.99): https://tinyurl.com/2p9ec78c First, can we appreciate the presentation/plating from this tiny food stall? When I'm craving Peruvian comfort food this is IT... The braised lamb shank was rich, flavorful, and fork tender. Served over a bed of stewed buttery peruano beans (canary beans) and arroz chaufa (Peruvian fried rice). The herbs from the fried rice (cumin and oregano?) complemented the lamb. The Peruvian red onion and pepper relish (salsa criolla) was punchy and acidic, helping to cut through the meatiness. The owner/chef asked if I like it hot...yes please! He brought over an aji and habanero (?) based hot sauce that was fruity, acidic, and packed heat. So good. S E R V I C E All business. Food takes some time to prepare so allot at least 20 minutes. A M B I A N C E Micro food hall on the ground level of MEDA. Shared seating - there's about 7-8 tables and some window counter seating. They've removed the outdoor seating. P A R K I N G Challenging metered street parking. Nearest garage is on 21st/Bartlett (1.5 blocks away). Overall, Ceviche 19 is hidden gem in The Mission serving up awesome restaurant quality food from an unassuming food stall. If you're in the area and craving Peruvian food, def worth hitting up this small local business!

A huge shout-out to Ivan, who was simply outstanding. He was incredibly friendly, attentive, professional, and genuinely made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Exceptional service and a wonderful personality -- Ivan is definitely one of the reasons we would come back! Jennifer was also excellent: warm, attentive, and very professional. Mariposas was just starting to fill up when we arrived, and the team accommodated our party seamlessly. The atmosphere is fun, quirky, and unpretentious--playfully decorated with a full floral wall, glowing accent lights, and large butterflies throughout the dining room. What truly made the evening special, though, was the stellar service. Our server took fantastic care of us, which was no small feat considering she seemed to be managing several tables (if not most of the dining room) single-handedly. She was warm, attentive, and incredibly professional from start to finish. They even surprised the birthday girl with a complimentary dessert of her choice--Lúcuma (Peruvian caramel-like fruit) ice cream, which was a delightful touch. For the food and drinks, the empanadas (chicken, beef, and vegetable) were the absolute stars of the dinner--beautifully presented and easily some of the best I've had in a long time. The Ceviche de Camarones was fresh and packed with flavor, while the Lomo Saltado was perfectly tender, and well-seasoned. The Arroz con Pollo was solid, though if we had a do-over, we'd swap it for a second order of Ceviche or the Chicken Tallarín Saltado. We rounded out the meal with a classic Pisco Sour, a refreshing Chicha Morada, and a few chilled Inca Kolas, all of which were excellent. Mariposas delivered great food, a relaxed vibe, and standout hospitality when we needed a backup plan. I recommended Mariposas if you're looking for solid Peruvian comfort food and top-tier service in SF.

Fortunately for us, El Dorado was conveniently located a block away from Moscone South (yes, I had my eye on the restaurant ahead of time and had made a reservation). The first night, Jorge greeted us warmly and walked us through the menu. The restaurant's vibe is neighborhood casual, though still appropriate for a date night or nice family outing. We wanted to try a little bit of everything, so we ordered the ceviche trio, the empanada sampler, and the pescado frito, which is a pan-seared red snapper entree. For dessert, we had the churros and mango mousse cake. Everything was delicious, and our favorites were the original ceviche, the veggie empanada, the fish, and the mango mousse cake. For drinks, we ordered the chicha morada and pisco sour - both refreshing and yummy! Jorge was also our server, and service was excellent throughout dinner. We enjoyed everything so much and joked about dining here again tomorrow. Pretty sure Jorge did not take us seriously! The second night rolled around, and I couldn't stop thinking about the veggie empanada and pisco sour... so we dined at El Dorado once more! We did not have a reservation this time, and thankfully the restaurant had a couple of open tables. We told the host (not Jorge; sorry, I forgot your name!) we had dined with them last night, and he chuckled. Pretty sure he thought we were kidding! This time our server was Ayduri, who was very sweet and attentive as well. We got a full order of the veggie empanada, the shrimp causa (kind of like a tart potato salad with shrimp), the churrasco entree, and their seafood pasta special. For dessert, the chocolate cake. Another chicha and a maracuya (passionfruit) sour this time. All the items delivered - especially the churrasco, which came perfectly medium rare, just like we requested. And, to our pleasant surprise, the dessert was on the house, because we dined there twice in a row! All in all, El Dorado is a gem in SOMA. Granted, I do not venture into SOMA often, so my palate only knows so much. But I'm confident you'll find something to love here. And chances are we'll be back again the next time we're in the city.

Luckily, it was a beautiful day in SF. Overall, the staff was nice, but I had a frustrating experience with the host. I came in and asked if I could get a table and if there was a wait. She said there wasn't and that she would get me a table. I waited...and waited...while watching other people get seated. Eventually, I had to ask her again, and she finally printed out a ticket for me to be seated. I'm still not sure what happened the first time I asked. I ordered their special lobster pasta and a latte. The lobster was perfectly cooked, and the pasta was al dente. The sauce was creamy with a nice peppery kick, and everything worked really well together. The dish is meant for two people, so it's definitely a generous portion. The latte was pretty basic and weak. I'm a bit of a coffee snob, so I'm pretty picky when it comes to coffee. I would love to come back and try some of their other seafood dishes.

The Tiradito Corado was easily the highlight of the meal--really flavorful and the dish I'd definitely order again. The ceviche was fine, although I wasn't a big fan of the nuts that came with it. The Conchas, served with scallops, were quite good, but at $39, I'm not sure they quite justified the price. The Lomo Saltado was okay. The fries that came with it were excellent, but the steak itself was a little overcooked and didn't have as much flavor as I was hoping for. Service was great throughout the meal, and overall it was a good dining experience. My biggest hesitation is the price relative to what you get. At these prices, I expected the food to be a little more impressive across the board. Still, there were some standout dishes, especially the Tiradito Corado, and I'm glad I gave the restaurant a try.

There is a nice selection off the main menu for Happy Hour 4-6pm. Providing an opportunity to sample one or more of the menu items as an appetizer. I chose the mussels with garlic bread, as good ones are not found easily. The portion was quite ample, and the sauce I dipped my nice crunchy garlic bread in was very flavorful, warm and delicious. I also tried the plantains which were cooked perfectly; not too mushy with a perfect char, and the sweet onions on top were also tasty. Paired with a very tangy dipping sauce. All the flavors came together well. My husband ordered the Cantina burger which he enjoyed down to the last bite. Our daughter also sampled off the smaller menu with Lomo Empanadas and the Chicharron de Pollo which she reported were both very nicely prepared. Will, our server gave us excellent recommendations which we availed ourselves of. The bill for 4 items plus the burger, a side of rice, and a ginger beer came to just under seventy dollars, which was a reasonable price. I would definitely give the food five stars, and the restaurant four as it's a long and lengthy bar with a few tables for two. The majority of the seating is in the back with two flat screens and an open kitchen. I can imagine how loud this place can get. We went at the perfect time: not a lot of customers so we received excellent individualized service from Will. I would hope to be able to return next time we visit GG Park and sample some more menu items like the Peruvian Paella which sounded very promising.

The interior is festive with lots of Peruvian decorations and there's a cute faux grass welcoming mat outside to set the mood. Overall I recommend this place! I definitely recommend the Kaiyo roll, which was not our first pick but recommended by the waitress (thank you). My only complaint would be the speed of service and attentiveness. Our waiter seemed to be pretty overwhelmed by the size of our party and came back 4 times checking in and leaving promptly before taking our order (not intending this was deliberate, but it gave the impression of possibly being overwhelmed by a larger party?). She also did not seem to know about what contained gluten when my wife (who is celiac) had asked.. doesn't seem like the best communication between the front and back of house? Alas, with multiple requests of checking with the chef if items were gluten free, we had no hiccups and continued with a satisfactory meal. Overall, it's difficult to tell the full capability of a service team when you come in with a larger group so I cannot fully fault them. However, the food and drinks were delicious, I left with a full belly and an allergic reaction free wife. I would come back here again but possibly with a few less people than 12.
