This is not intended as a complaint, but rather as an observation stemming from my recent experience on March 21, w/SERVICE TODAY. I encountered a clogged bathroom sink and needed to call for professional assistance. Employee ZACH was dispatched to my location. Note: ZACHS mannerism, professionalism and character were exemplary throughout this service call, at that time. BUT you can look a person in the eyes and tell something isn't right-that's the vibe I gathered from him. The primary concern I encountered was an unexpectedly HIGH COST of the service provided for the limited workload. Due to MY back injury I was unable to resolve the problem myself, so I had to call someone ( SERVICE TODAY ). I did research the process online to understand what needed to be done. Ultimately, the job ZACH did required just 22 minutes of minor work, yet the final bill amounted to an astonishing $413 of doing basically nothing. Again just 22 minutes. He knew he was getting over! This seemed excessive and felt particularly unreasonable considering my circumstances as a Black Disabled Veteran! NO BREAK DOWN OF THIS UNREASONABLE BILL AT ALL! Though ZACH conducted himself as a seemingly capable committed professional, I could look in his eyes and note the company's pricing structure appears exorbitant and I was left feeling taken advantage off! I urge others to take caution, review ALL DETAILS BEFORE AGREEING TO ANY SERVICE FROM SERVICE TODAY!! I only needed to recalibrate my remote controls- one on the wall and the car remote - for the garage door. The Serviceman first explained that the motor was bad and needed replacement for $1500. This is a new 3 year old, seldom used, garage motor. I said no and he immediately asked me what I could afford. The final quote just to recalibrate the remote controls was $430. Since I was in a bind to open the door, I paid it. However, when my credit card was charged, an unexplained extra charge of $19 was added for using a credit card. the techs and installers they have are great but when it comes to billing they're scam artists. I was told that theyd waive the $321.46 diagnostic fee if we went with them to install our new heater. So at the end of it I have a signed contract for $9,335.00 yet they're trying to charge me $9,335.00 plus the $321 for a total of $9,656.00. when I call they're customer service dept im told that when they installed the heater they gave a so called trans promotion rebate of $600 and that included my refunded diagnosti fee. So how is it that I have a signed contract for $9,335 and sum how I now owe $9,656. When it comes home repairs don't believe what they tell you about how much it's goibg to be because in the end you'll end up paying more out of your own pocket and they'll do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to help you out with that!!!! read more

We have been using Service Today for more than 20 years and have been so disappointed in the last few years that finally we decided to discontinue our service contract and not call them anymore. We bought an HVAC, a hot water heater, and had them come for numerous issues of plumbing and heating and AC over the years. Their prices have gotten outrageous, and after every service call, they have tried to sell us things we didn't need, telling us something was wrong with something they themselves recently installed. Furthermore, their customer service used to be excellent--now the schedulers are checked out, and you can't even request an early call the way you used to. He was friendly and professional, and willing to explain everything to me as he was working. I used to be an electronics tech, and I appreciated his willingness to impart his knowledge. On 01/24/2026 around 9 in the morning wife went to take shower and no water. Checked all breakers all good. Called plumber and electrician and plumber was out of town but electrician called back then came over. He checked all breakers again all good. He went to pump house checked electric to water pump and found NO electric. Please understand 01/25/2026 big snow storm coming. So wife called SERVICE TODAY. Was told very busy please be patient will call when someone can come out. They were told the pump was bad and needed to be replaced and we had all numbers so they could bring new pump, wife was informed tech has to come out checked everything first for $49.00. Went to bed at 9:30 that evening and still NO call. This morning still NO water and now it's SNOWING, and still no phone call. It's 01/25/2026 at around 8:30 in morning called SERVICE TODAY. Was told they have NO TECHS working today or tomorrow can't come until maybe Tuesday. Wife said I THOUGHT THIS WAS SERVICE TODAY NOT 3 DAYS FROM NOW. And come to find out they had the wrong address but they didn't send anyone there either. Needless to say We NO LONGER NEED SERVICE TODAY OR ANY OTHER DAY. Absolute worst service ever - OP, Essex Ct. I had a brand new $18,000 Trane installed 3 months ago. It doesn't work. After 3 visits of service people saying "it is working now" someone finally checked the outside unit to see it completely encased in a block of ice. Took 2 more days to get them to defrost. Ordered a part and a week later I am still needing to use the insanely expensive emergency heat in single digit temps because they never seem to get here to fix. Add to that the fact that for every appointment they showed up very late and outside the scheduled window. And each time I ended up having to take a full day off from work. Today I was scheduled to be 1st customer and the window was 8 am to 9:30 am. Still a no show at 9:45. THIS IS A BRAND NEW SYSTEM so they should have been falling over each other to get it fixed. THIS IS THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER SEEN. If you are wanting a Trane go somewhere else. This company is beyond horrible. read more

My home heater stopped working. I paid the $49.00 trip/ travel fee, although I learned from the service technician that that he was on another service call just 10 minutes away from my house before he arrived to service my heater. Two minutes after his arrival he assessed my heater issue as a bad motor that needed to be replaced. The technician said that it would cost approximately $1,300.00 to replace the motor, and that since my heater was nearly 10 years old, it might make more sense to replace the heater. He said replacing the heater would likely cost between $5,000 and 7,000. He indicated that prices would likely be going up due to changes in the economy. Long story short, after being without heat for nearly 3 weeks, a friend referred me to someone they knew who replaced the motor for $250.00, the cost of the motor. In the end I was charged $205.00 for a 15 minute service call where the diagnosis of the problem was the only thing that I received. GREED and price-gouging are not pretty, and I resent service technicians appearing so competent, professional and pleasant, while raping customers on the cost to resolve their problem. I have a service contract with service today. the contract is paid in advance. When i called to schedule the summer maintenance i was told they only do emergency work on the weekends and i could not get the maintenance done on the weekend. At 8:39 am i received a message stating the technician information and thr the tecgnition was going to confirm the appointment. So around 9:30 am i walked outside. I did not take my phone. The tech called while I was outside. I called the company 15 to 20 twenty minutes later. They canceled my appointment. They will not refund my money. I did not receive any information that if i do not call the technician back with in one minute they have the right to cancel cel your appointment. In reality one star is too much. read more

The company has changed. not as good as a few years ago. I wasn't aware that my service contract had expired. The service technician called me at 5:30 pm and said I could save a lot of money if I waited until morning for the service since I didn't have a contract. I've been with them over 15 years always got a renewal notice. not this time. I called in the morning and renewed. 2nd thing- fortunately I only needed a $400+ thermostat but there's no information on how to operate or the brand. Don't these things come in a box with papers? I've purchased 4 HVAC systems from them for 2 different properties. seriously thinking about changing companies. read more

I had two routine cooling maintenance system appointments scheduled. One on 6/21 and one on 7/5. On 6/21 no one called or showed up to conduct the inspection. On 7/5 I had a tech call me at 8:05 to let me know they were on their way but when I immediately answered the phone, they hung up right away and never came out. This morning I called the dispatch service and the earliest they could reschedule me was August 13th!!!!! What's the point of doing a cooling inspection when it'll be close to the end of the summer. They charge flat rates for jobs so if it's something that would require some of the same stuff your hit with large amounts regardless. $6000 for new jet pump and tank is ridiculous. My fault I should have shopped around. They also left the old tank and pump under my house. That I found out later. There offer to make this right was simply coming to get it. Despite it being on my invoice to haul it away. Then offered me a free service plan for a year. I told them no I'll never use them again. They took $100 off the bill. read more

Had a pipe burst in my garage. Ser ice today came out and fixed it. The water heater had gotten wet so had to be replaced. Charged me almost $3000 to install the new water heater and fix a couple pipes in the sink next to it. The water heater was $2700 + $3000 to install and fix about 3 feet of plastic pipe. Since they do not break down work done my insurance is only paying for the water heater. I've been a client of theirs for many years. I'm done. Canceled my agreement with them from here on out. This is just WRONG. There has to be a better way. read more

Outstanding company. Outstanding technician. During the routine Spring checkup of my heat pump and A/C, Steve Donoway found mold growing in my attic. He showed me pictures and explained that if left untreated, it would spread to the duct work with very costly repairs. He suggested an air scrubber be installed on the heat pump which would remove the existing mold and prevent mold in the future. I am more than pleased with his thoroughness and clear explanation of the problem and the remedy. Most professional. read more

They arrived this past Sunday and worked tirelessly for approximately 6 hours to restore water at our residence. They were very resourceful in identifying the problem and acquiring the necessary equipment/parts for to correct the issue. We have been with Service Today since 2014 when they installed our HVAC system. They used to give good service and have knowledgeable technicians. Now they tell us they're sending a plumber when in fact the person they sent had no plumber training and told us straight out that they didn't know how to fix our problem. The 'technicians' sent to do the 2x an year checkup are also not licensed HVAC tech's. This will be our last year with Service Today. So if you need an actual plumber, ask for Travis or Richie, who are actual plumbers. If you need Electrical work done ask for another Travis who is a licensed electrician. They are the only one's we have found so far that know how to do the job and do it well. One star which is generous at this point read more

Paid cash of half the bill. JULY came out finally with thermostat but wrong one. Got billed every month for remainder owed. No one called with thermostat update after I had been calling. I was told the rate was 149/hr. Turns out it was 294 for diagnostic and trip charge. Hvac heat not running. Diagnosis was low voltage fuse blown in indoor unit. Outdoor unit compressor grinding noise.No refrigerant in system. Sent salesperson to go over options to replace both units $11900 -$17721. Suggest not worth fixing because it's 10 yrs old. Had a second company do diagnostic and said he could fix it. Needed a new valve and refrigerant put back in and it now should run for a minimum of another 10 years. Will never call SERVICE TODAY again. Felt like they were reeling me in for a big sale. read more
