We purchased an expensive air conditioner from Service Legends approximately ten years ago. It has broken down every year since. It is always the same issue, a "wet switch" for which we are charged. Their jingle "we fix it right, or it's free" is simply a myth. The company has no integrity, although they like to advertise that they do. Do not do business with them. I would appreciate feed back. The contract with Service Legends was for one year. Fall and Spring checks were performed. Our smoke alarms were 10 years old so requested a price to replace 8 direct wired alarms. The Legacy smoke alarm was suggested at $330 each installed. Was told our current Kiddie ones had problems and were not suggested. We did not request or approve any Wi-Fi models. The written bid just stated smoke alarms for $2,636. At the time there were only 6 in stock so it might be awhile before ours could be installed. After the installer called in the order, the install was scheduled for the next week. The installer arrived with Kiddie detectors and was told these were better and more expensive but the same price. I think I was taken advantage of. Detectors were installed but then I saw that Home Depot sold these for $70 each so I was charged $2,000 for two hours of work. Please be careful when dealing with this company. We have had quite an experience with this company. Air conditioner unit that was sold to us has never been able to keep up. Each year they had to come out to "calibrate" the system. After complaining that this was every year, they blamed it on our insulation and ducts. We had our insulation level checked by Mid American and all was good but Service Legends said it was insufficient so we paid them over 3k to have more done. This year when we turned it on, nothing. Called and they came out and quoted us 2200.00 to replace a line they said had worn through from rubbing due to the vibration from the heat pump. When they sent us the quote and the pictures we noticed that the hole was perfectly round like a screw hole. Tried to call many times to talk so someone - took about 5 calls - no return calls even though we were told each time they would call back. I finally called and stated that I would call back every hour until someone called me. One hour later I got a call. Tanis, their employee, stated that he called and left messages but when I checked our phones and our call log with our provider - no record. He said "well, this is a he said she said situation". He went on to say that this perfectly round hole was wear and tear. Also let me know that the technician misquoted the repair and it should be about $1500.00 not $2200.00. Service Legends had come out to service our unit in February as we were part of their Service club members for 20 per month. Note that a few years before when they came out to service the Technician left a wire undone and the unit caught fire and another time they came out and said that they had installed the unit too low to the ground and had to raise it to be in code. They did - but that should have been done when installed. So, we called someone else to come out for this AC issue and without telling them the story they stated that someone had screwed into the line when replacing the cover. Since these are the only folks to service our unit it kinda seems obvious who Did that. It was repaired by the other company for $840.00 -600 of that charge was the Freon. So - buyer beware and be ready for constant issues and concerns. There is even more to our experience but we will just leave these highlights for you. We called them again to let them know what had happened and were promised a call back and that this is not how they do business but that was two weeks ago and still no call or voice message - no responses - nothing. Someone quoted me a price for fixing my entire plumbing system and were VERY concerned about my drains in my sink being old and possibly leaky, but didnt spot the leak they came to look at. They didnt have tools or time to fix the obvious leak i had to point out, but would happily schedule my water main and drains be replaced for thousands. look elesewhere folks. Im sure ill have to pay again to have someone else actually fix my issues. what a waste of money. read more

I find it interesting that a company that services and is listed as a dealer for Goodman furnaces did not know that Goodman does not require yearly maintenance on it's warranty. Technician said no warranty on party because there was no record of yearly maintenance. I called Goodman and the customer service rep and verified my 10 year warranty was valid and did not require yearly maintenance, plus the parts that were being replace were not something anyone would have checked with a maintenance plan... I understand that many furnace manufacturers do require yearly maintenance in order for part warranties to be valid, but I would expect Service Legends to know who does and who doesn't require that. The technician blamed the lack of knowledge on the parts guys. Know your warranty! read more

Waited all day for them to call when my furnace went out and it ended up being too late because they gave more attention to their precious membership program- I guess it doesn't matter if someone is freezing to death! They came out quickly when I needed to get a quote for a new furnace and AC and Dakota came out. He was super professional and made sure to explain everything. However I never got any follow up on the following Monday when he had said he would follow up. I'm not sure if anything happened, but it was such an urgent matter (cracked heat exchanger) I ended up going with another company. I was really happy with the rep when he was out, but not happy with the follow up. read more

When we called Service Legends, we were a little skeptical because they were from out of town, but we had a couple of estimates from intown installers before we called for a final estimate (required by our lender). Service Legends spend time measuring, walking around, even looking at how much insulation we had in the attic. No one else had taken the time to do anything other than look at the old furnace and ac units. Needless to say we were impressed! There was no high pressure sales with Service Legends. We just felt more secure with their estimate. They were honest and told us the real difference in the cost of the units. We signed the papers for our new furnace and air conditioner at 8 p.m. one evening, the new furnace and ac were installed and running by 9 p.m. the next day! The service was great, the installers were polite and never invaded our privacy. And now the best news...we just received our first bill since installation. Our bill dropped over $210 for the first month! We are so happy we finally decided to take the leap and have a new furnace and ac installed. read more

They replaced a 40 gal. water heater for me at a rental place and over charged like you wouldn't believe!! First, told me a 60 gal. and 40 gal. we're the same price so recommended I put in a 60 gal. I agreed but then told me it was an extra $200 for labor to change the vents. I complained and they reduced the price by the $200. However, the end bill was $6,895.08. I just found out that another company only charged $2,375.00 for the exact same thing in the same type of home 10 months earlier. Only call them if you want to be ripped off!! read more

If I could give this company a 0 I would. We had an issue with our heater. The service tech came out and quoted us $3000 for the part and told us that we had holes in our pipes which could have been leaking carbon monoxide. Then they quoted us at a new system for $9600-for a low grade system in A small home. They work on commission. Then we got someone else to come and they quotes us at $600 for the part, zero holes, and a new system was $7400 for a top of the line unit. Do not use them. read more

I was told they would be here between 2 and 5 that they would take 1.5 to 2 hours thoroughly clean and inspect my heat pump and furnace connection. They arrived after 4pm and were gone shortly after5pm. The technician kept saying how clean everything was and then unit was in excellent condition. He said this unit tells him if anything is wrong by codes and all codes say its fine. He was asked to check refrigerant but said it leaks out when he does it and its fine now. If he checks it and its leaked out it would cost me $150 per pound. His inspection was hurried and not worth the $127 charge. I will not have them come backs ever again I feel I was ripped off by Brian's company. They were good in the past as I was a member. Now they are wanting to do little and charge alot! read more

Alex was great and extremely helpful and informative. He was honest about the charges vs competitors and quality of work vs competitors. He went above and beyond to get us a price we felt comfortable with. The reason the rating is 2 stars is because of everything that came after our great interactions with Alex. First, we were told it would be a two day install. We were told we would have cold air by the end of day 1. But due to them installing faulty equipment (bad motherboard which per the tech is apparently happening all the time with these units) they did not have anything running day one. If this is a common issue why are you not bringing a spare motherboard to jobs just in case? Tech said they have a bunch of brand new in box motherboards at the shop, so that's just poor judgment and management on their part. With 2 toddlers we had to spend yet another night out of our home due to the heat that we were given a commitment would be solved that day. The next and far more irritating issue, due to the techs not being able to get ductwork into a room which was part of the initial quote and we paid a premium cost for we had to re-work the agreement. Now this is fine, sometimes things don't work out, however, when they don't I expect a company to honor the initial agreement pricing and not change pricing after the work is completed. We were told that due to a discount we were given on the package (10%), we would be receiving 1k less back than what we were quoted initially for that addition. So essentially they are admitting that either A. They were overcharging us by 1k for that addition or B. They are penalizing us for them not being able to complete the job they committed to. They essentially removed the entire discount which was the only reason we signed off on the initial deal in the first place. This did not come from Alex, but from his manager. If this is what management thinks is acceptable customer service, then that is a very sad leadership mentality of "Let's take advantage once they're past the point of no return". The A/C is running, we have completely new system in our home including a new furnace. Alex was kind, worked hard to make things work for us initially and what happened was out of his hands after the install sadly..... We received a 10% discount based off the numbers from the initial quote vs the discounted quote. If they needed to keep the discounted portion of the cost of the additional ductwork, they should have kept a little over $200. Instead they kept $1k. The management team took advantage of us after the install was complete and for the extreme price we paid for everything I feel very disappointed in our overall experience. They'll knock 20%of the inflated cost of you sign up for the maintenance plan (which is still about 200 to high). The funny part about that: it's close to fall? You can't take advantage of the maintenance until after 6 months or so (unless you want to pay $120 up front). read more

I talked to a service representative about the problems we experienced and she had a different service manager call me but I missed the call. She gave me his direct number to call him back. I called him and he said he would give me a free service contract for a year but I just paid for a year. Then he said he would refund me for service contract and said do you agree to this. I said I'm not agreeing to anything. After he asked me do I agree 2 more times I asked him if he was recording the call and he said yes. I called directly to him and there was no recorded message calls are recorded. I told him he should have told me he was recording the call in the beginning. I didn't agree to anything because I knew he was trying to get his company off the hook for how we were treated. I don't recommend SL because of how they took advantage of us. They got our money and they could care less. The furnace they put in was in the middle as far as quality but what they charged was outrageous. The first service manager I talked to said well we checked the code; put in a thermostat, checked the wiring and put in a drop. All these things are typical. Then he said to me I think your looking for money. The fact is they quoted me $11,900 and were upselling to get whatever they could. They were looking for all the money they could get. My house is only 1600 square feet. It was the dead of Winter and we had no heat so they took advantage of everything they could. read more

18 months ago Service Legends installed a new furnace and air conditioning unit in our house. The Capacitor went out this Spring in 90Degree weather. They sell you on the warranty of the HVAC system but have no intention of servicing it unless you pay extortion money for a service contract or an emergency visit. When they figure out that you aren't going to pay for normal customer service they call you back to try to recapture your money by saying something opened up after I found a legitimate business to fix it. Initially they give you a year of the service contract at no additional cost. The guy shows up and does the service call as you take a day off work. He shows my wife a picture of a lot of mold in the duct work by the humidifier and tells her it will be $200 to clean it. She asked me and I said don't do anything I will look at it. There was a Q. tip amount in that duct. The picture wasn't of our system. So the service contract is permission to extract more money out of you. How this company gets away with this marketing scheme is beyond me? It was well worth the $200 to an independent company to get them out of our home. read more

They said they didn't have anyone immediately available, but got someone there just over an hour later, the problem was fixed by 4:30, which included the technician going out to get the warrantied part and returning to install it. The customer service gal I spoke with on the phone this morning was extremely helpful and cheery, and they called exactly when they were supposed to and notified me when my tech would be there. Eddie was super friendly, patient, and thoroughly explained everything to me. He went above and beyond our expectations with the tune-up. He was respectful of our house and put on shoe covers, and cleaned up after the work was done. Upon his departure, he shook my hand- what a great impression! They replaced my 20 plus AC and 6 months later my furnace failed and they replaced that. Each time they gave me my options- do nothing, replace parts, or replace the unit with a choice of several different brands. I qualified for a payment plan also. When my ac failed, they came out the same day and diagnosed the problem. That evening the salesmen came out and showed me some options but said that I could buy any make or model that I wanted and they would install it. I made my decision and the next day (yes, the next day) they installed my Amana system. In each of these instances, I was show the failed part and a discussion followed about the best course of action. read more

You'll be lucky if you get to speak with Justin Gutknecht. He provided one of the best presentations of what this company does for it's customers. He also set a great example doing things as simple as turning off the lights in the basement that another company left on. I think the most important thing he did was listen. Sure, some of the presentation was prepared but I actually learned several things from it. Their prices might not be rock bottom, but they are competitive. They also provide the things I need and were willing to leave out the things that were not as beneficial to me. I heard about them from a friend who heard their ad on the radio. I probably wouldn't have known about them otherwise. So, I'm grateful for the ad. The schedulers repeated phone calls were annoying and messages about the correct door to come in and where to park were not relayed at all. I can tell you that I almost completely canceled this meeting because of the schedulers. They told me I couldn't schedule a meeting until Wednesday, then called on Monday and made an appt for 1:30, which the did move to 2 pm when I asked for a later time. Then they called at 1:30 pm and changed it from Kevin to Justin. Then Justin came to the wrong door and I had to call them to ask him to park in the driveway, use that door, and call me when he arrived. I still don't know where he parked. I think it was very far away so again, the schedulers did a poor job of relaying the message. They almost cost Service Legends the job. Justin saved it. Although, I need to have bids from 3 different companies, Justin convinced me that, if the actual technicians are as good as he is, this is a company I could trust. From the 1st call when we had no heat at 3:00 AM on Saturday morning our experience has been great. A person actually answered on the 2nd ring and we had a technician by 11:00 AM. Our Tech was awesome very friendly and knowledgeable. Explained everything and never pressured us on any purchases or services. Then had Austen come and explain financing to us and ALL of our options. Never pressured on any of the information. Worked extremely hard to find us the best financing that fit our situation. This company truly puts the customer 1st. They worked with us above and beyond to get us to what we could afford. Most companies would have gave a bottom line and take it or leave it. Austen never did. He listened to our situation and understood and went to work to fit our budget into what was needed. Never wavered or changed any of products quality that we needed no either or's. We are getting the best equipment and they fit it into our budget. We will be comfortable in summer and winter and never worry any longer what if something happens. They will be our go to from now on no question. We are extremely happy even though we are stressed because of Winter time and furnace broke. Early this morning our furnace stopped working, so since Service Legends installed our furnace, I gave them a call. They had a busy schedule with it being such a cold day, but got out here around 4PM. After lots of very thorough inspection and lots of testing, the technician, Ken, determined that the issue was a defective controller board. By this time it was 7pm, but despite that, Ken said we would go check the warehouse and see if they had one available. Thirty minutes later, he called me back and said he had one and he would be over in 20 minutes to replace it. About an hour later, our heat was back on, and we were very happy. He went above and beyond what many people would do on a Saturday, and we are very grateful for that. I highly recommend Service Legends. Thanks Ken! read more

I called Service Legends, explained my predicament with outdoor temps forecast in the teens for the next 6 days and was told that the next open appointment would be on the following Tuesday. We scheduled Service Legends to work on our heater and they called DURING the scheduled time range to cancel because apparently other people's heater issues are more important than ours. I had already taken the afternoon off work. The next available appointment was not for another 5 days. They refused to move us to the top of the list even though we've already been waiting a week for the appointment. When I said that the new suggested day and time didn't work for me she said "well it just doesn't sound like it's gonna work out for us, does it?". WOW...is this a prank?! Talk about terrible customer service. Sorry I'm a paying customer but I can't drop my work, school and family commitments to accommodate YOUR schedule after YOU canceled my appointment with NO notice. They did call me back soon after but told me that they where to busy to help me!!! Only after I expressed my concern with the lack of help and after being put on hold twice did they agree to come out when they could fit me in.I called Best Heating And Cooling as my house was getting cold and Kris picked up right away and said he would be out in twenty minutes witch he did and was very great to work with.My only point is that they say anytime any day they will be able to help and that's why I called but I was very disappointed with my experience!!! read more

I had an ac and furnace install 4 years ago with the gimmick of it's right or it on us. What A bunch of bull all the way down to there top service advisory. The whole system has been a joke and way under the homes needs. But he is right in his statement, this one is on him Mr. Brian Leech. I have been a member of service Legends little club (scam) for 6 years. In the Last 2 years we have had issues with our agreement. Just recently the straw broke the camel's back. I had a damper break and was quoted $576 for a club price. Being mechanically inclined i decided to check the price but had already paid them ( which they insisted be done before they would acquire the part) . I called Grainger ( whom is also a honeywell distributor) i was quoted $176 retail cost shipping included! Also found an aftermarket part on Amazon for $64! When i confronted management they said that they didn't get their parts at Grainger and i said maybe they should! He did offer to adjust the bill then he would cancel my membership because "we have had this problem before " . I was told 2 days, the part is in Omaha (2 hours away) . It's been 2 days ( i would have already had the part from grainger) and service Legends inform me that the part won't be there till most likely next Tuesday! So ti fix a simple zone damper takes 7 days ! Way off from the promises made in my contract! Anyone who's thinking about using this company should think again! read more

Long story, but during the prepaid furnace inspection (we did join their club) we were informed we needed about $900 in repairs. As the tech was leaving, I asked to see the most expensive part which was supposed to have bad bearings. To cut to the chase, it was fine - he had misdiagnosed it. At my request, he did reinstall it but wasn't happy about it and he didn't test the furnace when he was done. When I gave this feedback (they do follow up) they insisted on sending him back out with his supervisor. They were 2 hours late (the supervisor said he had a meeting that morning) and I was told that while the bearings were fine, the motor was overdrawing (it was within typical tolerance - I'm not a total doofus) and should still be replaced. For a supervisor, this guy was rude and left a worse taste in my mouth than tech #1. A few weeks later it got cold and when we turned the furnace on, we had a loud whistling sound throughout the house. I called them again, explained this started after their last work, and was told "You shouldn't have to pay anything" - this is despite their fix it right or it's free guarantee - and the same tech came again - this time he informed me that my ducts were undersized and would either need to be replaced or I could start using a cheaper filter or I'd have to live with the noise. We've had this furnace almost a decade with no issues ever. I'll admit I got a little fussy and they sent out another tech - in total disclosure, he was fantastic, fixed the whistle in about 10 minutes and calmed me down. However, I've lost all trust in this company and can not recommend them ever. read more

I called Service Legends last night at around 1:00 AM. I was actually surprised to get a friendly answer and not some groggy person that I just awoke! They scheduled me for an appointment from between 8:00 and 11:00 AM. I was pleased. I did a live chat mid-morning to see if they were still on schedule. At 11:00 I 'chatted' again to see if I had been forgotten. They took my name and info each time and said someone would contact me. I tried again at 12:00. Another friendly 'chatter' but still no response from Service Legends. Now it is 1:00 and still no response. Company is going to start showing up for the Holiday (Memorial day) and as the outside temp is over 100 degrees we will have to do this inside where it is extremely stuffy. I'm fairly certain that my system needs little service except for adding additional gas. Surely this service call (if they even show up) wont take long. I have even taken the time to spray the area around the A/C for mosquitos to make the tech's already unpleasant job on this sweltering day, a bit less so. I'll follow-up and this review whether they show up or not. It is now past 1:00, and still not even the courtesy of a call or e-mail. read more

The home they did the repair in is in DSM and I live in California. I've made this clear every time I've called. Their company has called me twice at 6am and woken me up, once on a Sunday, to ask how the service was. The first time I explained, "I do not know, I don't live there." They apparently have pretty bad record keeping because the second 6am call asked me the same thing and she did not apologize when I told her their company had woken me up twice now at 6am. I asked to have my cell number removed from their database. I'm giving them 3 stars because Adam, the tech, was very nice to work with and I'm sure hoping the work was done correctly. read more
