June 23, 2025 Needed to check & service AC system. Kelly…read morelooked at electrical, seemed ok. His assistant, a nice young trainee, cleaned the outside exchange screen unit. Then, my smart thermostat was discovered to be faulty. I asked for a similar smart thermostat. Kelly said he didn't like those and recommended his favorite- a manual control programmable. Being without air on 85 degree day, I agreed. He charged me $130 for the service call and $160 for the thermostat. The "new" thermostat failed after about 3 days so I called him and requested replacement with smart thermostat again, which he said was $50 higher (now $210 for the thermostat !) In the meantime, I checked local RETAIL prices on the defective therm he installed = $44; and the RETAIL price of my replacement smart therm = $90. I felt he should make it right by replacing his bad one with the better one at no additional cost. Still giving him a $70 markup. I felt he was grossly overcharging, under serving, defensive, argumentive, and somewhat hostile when he said " you either pay me the extra $50, or I'm not coming". So much for his website saying "Our prices are always fair, and we even offer a senior citizen discount." No senior or veteran discount was even considered or offered. My lowest cost option was to accept his threat and "get it done". I've been cheated and mistreated before and usually "fight" it, but he had me over a barrel. No apology for the inconvenience, the therm failure, no senior or other discount, no consideration at all for his customer. He only wanted to rip off as much money as he could. His teenage assistant was the most helpful in resetting the smart therm app for me. I'm wondering- Should I recommend, or reuse Kelly again??? I think not, and don't recommend others to use him. I received a call today stating that they never received payment for a service that was provided in August 2023, even though they did receive payment for another location that was serviced on the same day. This was due to them not writing down the correct email for the second location. I do understand that mistakes can happen and that payments are necessary to run the company. However, the way the office manager spoke to me about the payment was very unprofessional. It felt like she was the owner of the company. Due to this, I have decided not to call them back for any of my seven locations in Des Moines. I read on Yelp that "72 is about creating and developing relationships with our customers by providing superior service". However, this is not how they can build a relationship with customers. I have been working in customer service for the past seven years and I have never encountered anyone who has spoken to me in such a manner. I just hope that the owner, Kendel Richlen, reads this and takes action to improve his business for future customers.

But this is just offensive. And they charge you $99 just for showing up, so you're caught in the trap that if you don't hire them, you lose $99. Frame of reference: $368 is roughly equal to what the average American household earns in a WHOLE DAY. (Note: I'm in Des Moines, although my Yelp location shows me in San Francisco).

They were able to get someone out by 2pm, they called me at 11am and said Al would be able to come out earlier to help. Our system is 21 years old and we thought for sure it would need replaced, but he was able to fix it for a fair price! We will 100% call them when we are ready to get our HVAC system replaced.
