Our AC went out in the middle of the night, by morning it was 81° in the house and extremely hot for us, worse for our dogs. I called, they were thorough and efficient and since we are a veteran household we have a forever service plan now! They were able to get someone out by 2pm, they called me at 11am and said Al would be able to come out earlier to help. I was so relieved they were able to get here sooner AND the fact AL himself came out was a bonus! Our system is 21 years old and we thought for sure it would need replaced, but he was able to fix it for a fair price! We will 100% call them when we are ready to get our HVAC system replaced. They did a great job! They are the best heating & cooling place I've used. The guy who came out was polite, respectful, took off his shoes inside, worked quickly, and the repair worked right away. They DO NOT CHARGE to come out & diagnose, so I really LOVE that! My one & only critique was that I think the guy could have notified me of the price for the job a little earlier before he did too much work. The price was really fair though, $318 after tax to replace capacitor & no extra charge to come out. I looked online and they run around $60-$300. My unit is 21 years old so that price is on the low-end, but still seems very fair too me. Highly recommend! read more

If you have a heat pump unit, call another company. We called Lenz to come take a look at our AC heat pump unit, where the AC would not turn off automatically by the thermostat. It was hot, so we waited a week for Lenz to come out, as out AC still worked. They came over and didn't really understand how the wireless thermostat worked. It was like they had never seen a heat pump before. They said the wireless would not work anymore and it had to be hardwired. we asked for a quote to put in a thermostat for both our heat pump units. It came back in two days at $4500. That seemed a little high to us and we opted for a second opinion from Golden Rule. Golden Rule put in a new wireless thermostat for the main unit at a price of $1000. we opted for the membership and the next week the upper level heat pump stopped working. Golden Rule has been so helpful and taught us so much about how to run the heat pumps. read more

We had Lenz come out in September to replace our a/c and furnace and again in June to replace our water heater. They are quick to respond & reliable and respectful- my husband was just talking today about how he appreciates they put down carpet protector and clean up after themselves. Their pricing is also fair, when I told my parents how much our water heater cost they complimented me for getting a good price (do you know how rare parent compliments are?!). We don't hope that we'll need their services again for a great while, but if we do we know who we'll call. read more

Lenz was the first of three contractors I had give me a proposal for a new Furnace, AC & Water Heater.  Al was very professional, made a thorough review of our needs and desires regarding the equipment and add-ons. He gave us his best price right up front and No hard-sell! On install day, Curtis & Brody & Drae were very professional, took all precautions to keep the house clean and did excellent work. They made sure we knew everything about our new system before they left. We love our new Amana furnace and AC and our new Rheem water heater! I ended up buying a split unit A/C with heat pump from Lowe's for $650 and I found a licensed HVAC technician to install it for $300. It works great...from another HVAC service provider! Compare that to the $5,000 that this company wanted to charge. You can see that they were way overcharging and didn't care when I told the salesperson/technician who quoted me. My furnace went out late last night, I called and spoke with Jenny who picked up right away was super helpful. They gave me a phone call 30 minutes before they arrived (which was great because I could still go into work this morning). Al came by and was able to get me heat right away. He also showed me how to perform a quick fix on my furnace in case it went out again. I was very impressed with Lenz's affordability and how quick they were to respond. I also appreciated the tips on how to fix the problem myself, rather than having to pay for a service call. I know my furnace is on it's last leg, but will definitely continue to go to through Lenz when the time comes to get a new system. I had my furnace and air conditioner inspected by another well known company that advertises a lot and was told both units were bad. The heat exchanger was cracked and leaking bad in the furnace and the compressor was bad in the AC/heat pump. They quoted me around $15,000 to replace both!! I almost fell over. A week later my water heater started leaking! So after talking to some people I decided to have Lenz Mechanical check them out and give me a quote. They replaced all three including the water heater with better units than the other place was going to use for $8600.00. They did a fantastic job, cleaned up after themselves, were on time like they promised and the guys were very friendly and professional!!! The final price was exactly the amount I was quoted. I was very satisfied with my recent experience with Lenz Heating and Cooling. Our A/C went out during a very hot week, called my normal place first thing on a Friday morning and was told by them that it would be two weeks before they could even send someone out to look at it (obviously everyone was busy due to the heat). But waiting two weeks was not an option and even though I have been a long time customer of this business I was placed on their waiting list So I found Lenz and gave them a call. I was informed that they had a representative that was just finishing up a job in my area and they would send him right over. The owner Al was there within 15 minutes and gave me the bad news. My unit was approximately 20 years old and said it would be $800 to fix. Obviously, spending that much on an old unit was not the smart thing to do so I agreed to a replacement. They came the next day (Saturday so I did have to pay a little extra to cover weekend rates) and installed a new unit which I am very happy with. It is much more efficient (and quiet) and I can definitely feel a difference in the quality of the A/C. They came back a few weeks later (Scott) to run tests to ensure everything was working properly and to complete the inspection for our Energy efficiency rebate. I am confident my monthly bill will be lower going forward. I also have a 10 year parts and labor warranty on the unit. This was my first experience with Lenz and I am completely satisfied. They will now be my Go To heating and cooling supplier, which unfortunately probably means I will need them to replace my 20 year old furnace soon! read more

Friendly and helpful...especially Zakk and Dennis. They listen to what you want, and they don't have salesmen (where you would otherwise have to listen to a 2-hour spiel where they try and sell you stuff). Got a quote on furnace replacement within minutes of asking after Lenz arrived and had inspected our furnace. For some reason, Lenz won't respond to emails from customers (I've sent three of them and have yet to get a response). Why have an email address at all or a "Contact Us" link on your webpage if you're not going to respond? Also, Zakk didn't put the tax on our final "receipt"...which was ok, because at least Dennis had quoted us the price with tax. read more

My furnace was out for 3 days due to a blower fan. My landlord couldn't find anyone to come out to fix it with the cold weather it was backing many companies way up. 9/23/14 Lenz Mechanical installed a new furnace, central air unit and water heater in my home, replacing my 16 year old unit. Al and his crew were all professional from the initial consultation about our system needs through the completion of the installation. They only sold me what I needed and were honest about potential upgrades, but were very clear they certainly weren't required. It is the small details that make this company a winner down to the booties they wear on their shoes to protect your flooring. You have to give Lenz a shot at your HVAC service. I had a Des Moines HVAC business service my furnace and try to strong arm me into purchasing a new blower motor as the bearings were bad. Can't service the bearings, have to have a new motor to the tune of $900. Called Al Lenz for a second opinion and he fixed the issue with a $10 part. Honesty and integrity are the business principles used by Lenz and due to this experience, they will always get my business going forward. You have to give them a shot -- you will be pleased with how they treat you and your home. read more
