Called Barlow Service Experts 4 years ago (2022) when my AC didn't blow cold after sitting the previous winter. I thought it was odd when two vehicles showed up in front of my house. Out of one popped a young serviceman (in-training), out of the other can best be described as a seasoned, "used HVAC salesman". Upon introduction, instead of asking me anything mechanical or troubleshooting in nature, the immediate questions from the elder were "how long have you lived here, how old was my existing system" (18 yrs). Before the cover of my compressor was even removed, I had heard all about their sales and financing. Since my old system had been extremely reliable, I didn't bite. The young technician proceeded to diagnose that the R22 freon in my system was low. We went inside to check the line connections at the blower and look for any signs of freon leakage, and none were evident. The conversation immediately turned to the in-availability and exhorbinatly high costs of R22 refridgerant and how it makes sense to upgrade my old system now. I reiterated my intent to repair this first time at least and was quoted $275 per pound for the "rare" R22 refrigerant and some added color-dye to identify any future leaks. The total 1-hour bill was well over $900. Fast-forward 4 years to 2026. My "old" system has worked flawlessly through 4, brutally hot summers and tests good heading into the 5th. A Google search of R22 refridgerant shows it widely available at wholesale costs of $10 per pound or less in quantities. I get that there are times when an upgrade would be best. I don't get the $markup on R22. So, what do you think, is this outfit reputable? read more

These guys have the worst scam I've seen in years. DO NOT DO Business with them. They are dishonest about their financing agreements. They are not in fact financed, but leased, and you have no way out unless you pay for the entire equipment after 10 years of making payments. you are essentially not getting what they sales guys tell you. We had used Barlow Service Experts for some time and had generally good experiences, but our recent water heater replacement was very disappointing. When our old unit flooded the basement, the sales rep, Nicholas Allphin, assured us we could do a payment plan for a new tankless heater. He was polite and professional, but would swipe past all of the verbiage on his tablet straight to the signature block, repeatedly reassuring us of what it said and that it was a payment plan. Months later, after repeatedly asking for payoff information, we learned it was actually a lease that would cost nearly double what we were quoted. We felt completely misled and taken advantage of, and it was incredibly frustrating to realize the truth only after months of trying to get clear answers. This felt dishonest and manipulative. If you still choose to use this company, be very cautious and double-check everything they present to you, because there's a good chance they could possibly be doing the same thing to you. read more

They are the worst. A couple years ago, we had them put a furnice/ac unit in my mothers house. The day before Thankgiving this year. The furnice stopped working, call them. took more than 8 hrs to come out, then they couldn't fix it. Had to wait till Lenox opened. Said it would be Friday. Well come Friday, Lenox was close till Monday. My mother is lucky she has me and my sister, or she would be dead right now from the cold. Their apolizies don't mean crap. We paid them over $7000.00 for this unit, and they could have killed my mother because of their incompitence. Never will go through them again. I feel sorry for any elder person that uses them, and is on their own. read more

5 solid stars! I had previously used "another" heating company for a service call, which they had quoted me $930 to fix a few "problems"... So I called Barlow Service Experts for a 2nd opinion, which they offer FREE 2nd opinions! Awesome :) Calling and scheduling an appointment was easy and their technician was professional and polite. I advised the Technician of what the previous company had mentioned to me and the problems they found and Barlow mentioned that was NOT the case... In fact my furnace was fine and just needed a clean out. The previous company had also put my furnace back together incorrectly, which would have prevented it from operating correctly... so Barlow fixed that too! Barlow gave me a few suggestions, but overall nothing immediately needed to be fixed or repaired. My furnace is working great and Barlow saved me from getting scammed out of nearly $1,000 from another local heating company. Thank you Barlow! Very impressed. read more

I had a bad experience with this company. I bought a new unit in June 2024 and it was not installed correctly and the unit froze within days. This was on June 26th, Mike the GM came out the next day and noted the changes that needed to be done and handed it off to Tony Stafford director of Installation, their weak link. He never followed through and was extremely rude to me. The inspection did not pass and he finally sent a technician out 6 weeks later. I am so unhappy with management. this experience has been terrible. Main office was rude and I paid SO much for a new unit that could have been fixed within a day. poor Service and I'm still upset. read more

I had a squeaky central air unit outside. I had a technician come out and tell me that both motors and capacitor were shot, was going to cost $6,000. Then they wanted to see my furnace and told me that my heat exchanger was cracked and leaking carbon monoxide. they said I needed an entire new system starting at $14,000..... I watched a Youtube video and bought a fan motor for $150 for my A/C, replaced it and it works great. read more

We have a plan for yearly service for our plumbing, heating and air conditioning. Our appointment today was for plumbing. The technician, Daniel Lawson, was on time. He went through everything related to our plumbing. He explained everything to us. All of my drains were treated with non-toxic chemicals. He checked water flow, washing machine hoses, water heater and softener. He was friendly and personable. He had to remove things around in the room with the heater and softener. We used to empty it before a tech came, but couldn't this year. He made sure everything was put back properly after the inspections. He even took the time to talk about walk in tubs and showers. Put a request for service into their website after hours, got a call at 8am the next morning that they would have a tech. come out between 8 and 10am. Got a call from Brandon a little later saying he was on his way, very quick response! Brandon showed up cheerful and courteous, slipped on his shoe covers and went right to work on diagnosing the blower motor not starting issue. Within the hour he had determined it to be the ECM control module attached to the motor, had found the part was in stock in Salt Lake City and offered me a very reasonable price for the repair AND an inexpensive service agreement for two system checks a year. It was a great value "sign me UP", Brandon! He drove to get the part and was back within the hour , replaced the module and had the system running before noon, THANK YOU, Brandon! read more

I had Barlow come in and replace my garage heater. They were extremely professional and competent. Rick and Mourn were amazing. They installed a new heater by carrying it up a ladder. The install was a 15' ceiling and they saved time by not bringing in a lift. I dealt with 4 of there employees. I was worried about guying coming into my woodshop since I have a lot of equipment. The techs were very solid and high character people. I would trust them in my shop and dealing with women. I am going to start using them for my commercial work on my rental properties. read more

AC went out last summer and this is the second time we've called out Barlow service experts to help us. Where they do have a lot of friendly and expert installers, the shady sales tactics used are a huge turn off. The first time we replaced our furnace and they gouged us price wise after they failed to mention they wouldn't service anything without an expensive bi-annual servicing. So I played their game and waited until their needy sales people called and would do the job for half of what it was for people who called in and were proactive. Then our AC broke and I thought I'd play their game again only this time I was smarter. Nope, they didn't have an old plan with financing but offered something "much better" in their words. for a monthly plan very close to traditional financing they would cover annual maintenance of my entire system where they would come out and check things, fix if needed at no charge and replace the expensive filter 1 time a year at no cost to me. Then it comes time for my annual service and again they revert back to shady sales tactics trying upsell me on a filter that was stated by the sales rep was covered, to now being $196. For the same filter I bought the year before for $60. My conclusion, Barlow service experts is filled with dishonest sales people who can't sell on value and truthful service plans so they lie and manipulate people into believing they are honest all for a shady car salesman paycheck. So why two stars? Every tech is awesome, they know what they're doing, very respectful, and efficient. They offer quality products and are very responsive! What they don't do well is being honest in the sales cycle and for whatever the reason they rake people over the coals once the deal is done. Barlow would be an easy 5 star with a little more honesty in the sales side, if they lose their techs I'd change this to negative stars. Now, If you have money busting out the seams and you simply don't find ways to spend it all, then Barlow Service experts is for you. They fall more in line with I don't care where do I sign kind of clientele rather than middle class have to budget kind of folks, like myself. read more

The gave me a quote through email which I agreed too. They did a good job installing it but increased the cost on the agreement by 2,000$ and had my renters sign the aggreement. I cannot get help in resolving the issue. I can only speak to customer service which has no real decision rights. They only take payments but cannot resolve real concerns. If I could choose 0 stars I truly would. I was screwed over 4 years ago when they installed my air conditioner told me I was going to be paying $160 per month towards the unit till paid off, never did get an invoice showing the cost of the unit and the reason for that was they signed me up for a "service contract" that I was only paying for "their" service for 10 years then once that expired the payments would go towards the unit, I calculated this and I would have paid between 20,000 and 25,000 in that time frame had I not paid the unit off after canceling the service contract, (mind you I paid the $160 per month for almost 2 years before I knew what they had done). It's ironic that the salesman that did this to us, we were not the only ones and he ended up well lets just say retiring! BUT this is not the only reason for my review today. So I pay them 10.00 a month to have them come out once a year to tune up the air conditioner and once a year to tune up the furnace. Well much to my surprise, yesterday when the technician came out, he asked if I could come down in the basement so he could show me something?? So I obliged and he started to show me pictures of the or what should have been pictures of the inside of my furnace (only 6 years old mind you) and then proceeded to tell me that there was cracks here and rust there that water from my old AC had leaked into the furnace and that I need a new one now approx $5900 and up for a new unit. So me being mindful of what happened with my AC and how I got raked over the coals on that, I called another company for a second opinion on that and they came out today and actually spent alot more time here than Service Experts guy did yesterday and told me that there is NOT ONE THING WRONG WITH MY FURNACE. I asked him about the rust and water damage etc. He said maam, there is no damage to your furnace of any kind. SO with all this said, please, please use another company if you are wanting to get the truth!!!! Very unhappy about all of this and I should have took them to court over the AC but thats here nor there at this point. Save your money folks they are out to rip you off!!!!!! Don't use Barlow Service Experts unless you enjoy paying 200% more than you should for your water heater. $4200 to change a power vent water heater that costs $1200 from Standard plumbing plus an expansion tank at $36 and a new shut off valve at $15. Add $100 for some copper tubing and let's be generous $650 labor. That's $2000 for the job and they want to charge $4200. No thank you! read more

Our water heater broke and we needed a part to be replaced that was still under warranty. The first individual stated that the $99 service call charge would be applied towards the labor of replacing the part. When the part came in, a different service individual came to our home. He told us the $99 service call charge did not apply and it would be double the price to replace the part. I am very dissatisfied that a part, under warranty, ended up costing me $500 for all of the fees and overpriced labor. Do NOT use this company. Call a plumbing company or another HVAC provider. We stopped using them years ago for our HVAC services due to fees and things never staying fixed. read more

We have been doing a remodel of the master bathroom, and we needed them to move the hvac run/vent to accomodate the new vanity. We have used them to do several projects over the years and was happy with their service. Well, that all changed when they did not show up - TWICE! We rearranged our schedules to accomodate them, and they do not show up! Once, I will forgive. Twice, it is a habit that I cannot live with. read more

He knew exactly what he was doing and was very knowledgeable about our unit. He was great at dealing with our dog who has a traumatic brain injury. He is very hyper. I called these people and they told me the diagnostic would be 165 but that if I signed up with my email they would take off 99 dollars ,they did show up on time. I explained to them what I thought it might be inside the furnace that was causing my fan not to blow. After ten or 15 minutes the technician agreed that it was either the control board or fan motor and told me that I should absolutely replace them both as one might deteriorate the other. I asked the tech how much and he said 900 for the motor and 800 for the control board. This did not include labor to replace them. I told him well that is not going to happen. He suggested as did the salesman who had been there the entire time that I buy a new furnace for 6000. For my 1400 square foot condo. This did not include new ac. I told him 6000 was way overpriced. I asked him for the bill which i assumed was 66 dollars after the 99 dollar discount. He told me the bill was 165 and tax . I let him know that I had signed for the discount and he let me know that he applied the discount and that there was a 100 dollar travel fee. Something they had not mentioned when booking the appointment. I paid then they left. I bought a control board new for 150 dollars that is retail. It is safe to say that it would have been less at wholesale cost as barlow would have bought. The motor I did not buy and I did not need either but it was 120 retail. It took me about twenty minutes to replace the control board. I would not recommend barlows to anyone ever. My opinion of the company is that they are crooks. So beware! read more

Again somehow I feel into the trap of using these guys because of a mailer coupon. They said I need a new capacitor. To the tune of $144. I looked at capacitors for Lennox Central Air on line.. I didn't find the exact part but the parts line it are ranging from $20-$50. If you look at the capacitor, it's 3 screws. Do you mean to tell me you charge $100 to screw some screws? Again I make the comparison to the mechanic that finds a list of things wrong. Note to self don't fall for the mailer. read more

My AC wasn't working well, so they came out quickly the next day after my call. They found out the problem was with my humidifier which was leaking. After they fixed that, my AC was working again. The price was inexpensive compared to everyone else in the market plus they fixed the issue quickly. I would hire them again and refer them to friends. Great job and thank you again!! read more

Our air conditioner broke in double digits weather during a time many companies did not have inventory to replace the conditioner. They were able to replace the air conditioner at a very reasonable price. Three months later I could nit get my heat to turn in, thermostat broken and some wiring issues from the heater installation the previous winter. They replaced the thermostat and fixed the problem, along with providing some much needed education on changing heater filters. At the end when I asked what I owed then they told me nothing, they back up their work and could not tell if the wiring issues were from the heater installation or air conditioning. I also enjoyed my experience with the sales team. I told them what I could afford and they did not try to up-sale me or push financing options during the sale. This was a great experience. This group had a lot of integrity, I will go to them for any needs in the future. read more

I called this company to get an estimate for an installation of an AC, THAT'S IT. The person that was sent was a nightmare. He talked badly about other companies and was super pushy about trying to sell his product and service plan to us. We told him up front that we were seeking other estimates and that we wouldn't be able to give him an answer today but after he was pushy we told him again and he got hostile about it. Later he called back repeatedly and texted repeatedly l, then LIED to us, saying that we'd told him to call back later that day (we didn't.) Later he showed up at the house and banged on our door THEN WENT INTO OUR BACKYARD and banged on the back door. At this point we were already very sure we didn't want to use this service if it meant we'd have to deal with this guy any more, 3 days later he came back AGAIN and did the same thing! This is EXTREMELY unprofessional and frankly a little scary. read more

The service experts actually screwed up. On the day they delivered my air conditioner, they didn't have the one I ordered, so they upgraded me to a 21 seer ac at no extra cost. In addition, after I got the new AC, the ac was having a problem freezing, a problem my previous AC was having. They came out to service our AC, at no extra cost. They finally figured out our 4 ton blower, wasn't strong enough to support the 4 ton ac. It was a huge mistake after all the work we paid for. However they stuck to their guarantee, they had a meeting with us, admitting the mistake, and communicated that they would replace our furnace with a 5 ton furnace at no extra cost. However they did ask if we would be willing to help offset the cost. We ended up paying for half of the cost of the Furnace. I would highly recommend these people to anyone. I love how they are focused on getting the house to a certain temperature, and they stand by their work. They have been very professional, and really are experts in this field. I had probably 10 contractors come out to our house, some said we need more duct work, some said we needed a smaller unit. The solution was more duct work, and bigger blower, none of the other contractors really came up with the right solution. With others I would have paid for work, hoping for a lower temp, and just been disappointed that their solution didn't work. With service experts they guarantee their work, so if they screw up, its not on me, its on them. I love how accountable they are to work that is needing to be done. They are pricey, but at least they are dedicated to the end result. I highly recommend them if you are having issues with your heating and air. read more

Avoid this company. Called to have a technician solve a problem with our furnace. He came, didn't diagnose the problem, but recommended $2200+ for new equipment the furnace didn't need. I had already installed a new blower fan, repaired a blower motor, and fashioned a better motor mount. Then a Service Experts salesperson called to talk about selling us a new furnace. Maybe these guys work on commission. Will not use them again. A tech from Method Air came out, found the problem--two sensors at $15 each--installed the sensors and he stayed to ensure the furnace worked properly. Wonderful! Total cost $139. read more

We paid $69 for a "service expert" to look at our furnace. This was before we closed on the house because we wanted to know how much it would cost to repair. We knew it needed something. The "expert" ended up giving us a tune up and recommending a few things, but he said it is working well and there were no issues. Well, my father in law put in a new thermostat because we were still having issues and we thought it was the thermostat. Still a no go. My father in law bypassed the thermostat and tried to get the furnace to run on. Still, it tries but won't turn on. He also said the wiring to the furnace is backwards (the w and r wires). While talking to a lady on the phone, she listed off everything they do in the tune up and checking the connection is on there. So obviously, not everything on the check list was completed. The lady on the phone said they could send out another person to look at it, but we'd have to pay again for the service AND to send the technician out. If they didn't do it right the first time, how can I trust them to do it right the next? I'm not paying $70 more for another person to come out and say "it looks ok so I gave you a tune up." Oh, might I add that we originally had the tech come out when I was 7 months pregnant and we wanted it all done correctly and in good time. I am now 8.5 months pregnant and we have no heat to our house. We are moving in tomorrow. Went from 1 star to 3 Update: had a manager come by and see the furnace to make sure it's all good now that we've done repairs with another company. He spent time with us to make sure the furnace is working well. He also assured us that a refund is in the mail. He apologized for what happened with the office staff. I've used Service Experts before to Take care care of my furnace and air conditioner and the service had been fairly consistent. I have to say that when you are near the end of your furnace or air conditioner's life call someone else. Quote for new furnace and air conditioner was absolutely insane!!! Nearly 3 times more than 3 other companies we called for quotes. And I was charged a service fee to be told that I should get a new system. The next day I had another company out and they repaired my system at 8:00pm for a very reasonable amount of $. Very disappointing. read more

DO NOT USE!!!! Read all of the reviews where people are bait and switched. -They dont honor their coupon terms and conditions (unless you catch them and argue them in to the ground) -They will clean your furnace, before you authorize, charge you a ton for it after the fact -They will sell you items you DO NOT NEED for more than they are worth -They will shame you and be aggressive when you disagree with what is happening Not only did they "clean" the to death before they diagnosed the problem but they didn't get the cleaning charge approved. They just did it (mind you my husband was right next to the tech). Thought he was trying to diagnose, he wasn't, he was cleaning then told us we had to pay. Then he didn't know what was wrong but insisted it needed a new filter. My husband didn't realize it was a wash and reuse (the property in question is mine and I was out of the country) so the tech charged $18. for a $3. filter and threw the reusable one away with all of the parts from the furnace. I called the company, the owner was nice, said he would call back, didn't. Instead had another tech call me back who was defensive and angry. Said he would try to find the reusable. Said they had to make money some how. Seriously, there are LOTS of good HVAC folks out there...I have used many contractors, these guys are seriously dishonest and ended up costing me a lot for practically nothing. I need to go purchase a reusable filter again-anywhere from $50-100 thanks to these guys. read more

My AC was freezing up so I call the "Service Experts"...They arrived on-time and said my Coil needed cleaning (typical AC problem)... Then gave me an estimate of $500 to clean them??? I told Dennis K. this was a typical AC problem and $500 was overcharging me but he held firm to his $500 coil cleaning charge. I asked him to contact a supervisor and let them know I have other Reputable AC companies that will only charge between $200-$250 to clean coils. He said he called and his supervisor said "that was the price". In my opinion this company is trying to take advantage of it's customers during the HOT months of the summer! *BEWARE* SO CALLED SERVICE EXPERTS then charged me $49.95 for basically NOTHING but coming into my home and trying to rip-me-off... I then sent in a Customer Satisfaction Survey requesting my money back and they have yet to respond (probably never will!) If you are in SLC and in need of a good AC company....DO NOT CONTACT THIS ONE!!! UP-DATE... Called another company who showed up 2 hours later, Cleaned my Coils and my outdoor condensers for $235....
