Quoted me $899. flat rate (meaning that this was what I was going to have to pay no matter what!) for a USB flash drive recovery and tried to claim that the process was extremely difficult and that no one else could handle it as well as they. Ended up going with another outfit and paid less than half what I was quoted by SERT, and when I informed "Todd" from SERT that I had paid $400. (which would have been $300. with the outfit I went with, except that my drive was encrypted so it cost an extra $100.) and recovered all of my data, Todd replied (after-the-fact of course) that I would have paid less with them, which is absurd based on that he was arguing beforehand about how his $899. fee was reasonable. It would appear that there are "two" Todds, because sometimes he replies with somewhat helpful messages and other times seems to be irritated and writes negative emails that appear to stem from insecurity and resentment that other companies out there are thriving charging far less for the same services. My advice would be to avoid SERT at all costs - from what I can see, this is another of those outfits that gets hold of your broken drive and then extracts whatever they can from you. My review is based on the inconsistent quality of customer service and that they quoted me $899. and assured me that no one could do the job for less, and then had the gall to try and claim that they would have done it for less, after I did find another outfit that did do the job of 100% data recovery. Very unprofessional attitude. In sum: this is how the "data recovery game" works: most all of these guys are more crooked than a barrel of snakes and will extract as much as they can out of you once they have your drive. Some will quote a very low initial price and then once they have your drive will quote something like three hours of work at average $300. per hour - others like SERT will quote you around a thousand right from the getgo - in sum, most of these guys try to get the magic figure of around $1000. from you. If you can, as I did, find a place with great reviews and a flat fee that is reasonable, go for it. Yes, data recovery is not cheap, yes it will cost you a few hundred dollars, but no, there is no reason to pay more than that, not even for "chip off" USB drive recovery, it still should not cost more than a few hundred dollars. Do not pay more than a few hundred regardless, hold your ground, and you won't go wrong. I gave them two stars (versus just one) because SERT was up front about price gouging - versus some of the others that lure you in with some hope that they will charge little, and then end up charging as much or more than SERT anyway. Look, data recovery is not cheap. Todd was up front that he may not be able to save everything, but asked what types of files we would like to prioritize. Our external hard drive with over a TB of data was 80% recovered and the turnaround time was less than 24 hours. The 20 years of videos, photos, and music was worth every single penny. I was very disappointed with experience with SERT. Things started off very well and communication was good, then I just stopped getting updates about my case. I called a couple of times and got the run around and I'm still waiting on the promised return call after several months. I have emailed and received the same run around. Every time I contact them they keep telling me they are looking into it and I never get a response back from them. It's been well over a year now that I sent my flash drive in to be repaired. Right now all I would like is to get my old flash drive and the new one I sent to place the recovered data. I'm not sure what happened with my case, but I just wish someone would have been more upfront about things. Update - I emailed once again to express my disappointment and inquire about my case and also state my plans to file a complaint, but still received no response. On the day that I was writing up the complaint I tried calling once more and was able to talk to someone who was somehow able to find my drives and mail them back to me. How? I will never know. Gotta love these guys. I transferred from a Mac to a Windows after my business that specializes in business and marketing services, my accounting services expanded quickly and Windows tend to be friendlier in excel with analysis programs. Unfortunately this dragged on readjusting all my other tech instruments to connect with everything. Kept getting many errors. As I love in Miami, SERT was able to connect remotely to my computer and perform all necessary downloads and setups to make my office productive again right over the phone. I knew I had a bigger than usual issue when I couldn't even get my computer to boot. There was lots of terrible advice online. Like sticking your hard drive in the freezer. I don't care who it worked for, let me tell you, that is a bad freaking idea. I mean, sure, it's great IF it works. But if it doesn't, you risk ruining your hard drive, and I can say for sure, it wouldn't have worked in my case because my head was not stuck, it was broken, and my platter was damaged. And this is jargon to you unless you've been through it or are going through it, but like I said, you don't really need to understand much more other than DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING. Trust me, I'm Mrs. Fixit myself about most things. Even computer things. Heck, I even tried to see if I could figure out how to fix this myself. If you have any brain cells at all, you will realize once you start looking up these issues that you can NOT fix it yourself. So when you realize you can't fix it, what's the next thing most people do? Look for the person who CAN fix it for the cheapest price possible. Now, I wouldn't say you want to spend as much money as possible, but...here's my experience. I sent my hard drive to the cheapest place I could find, and wasted about a week because they couldn't recover the files. The fact is, the lower level recoveries all cost the same no matter what you go. And the companies that are charging more for the higher end recoveries are doing so *because they can actually do them*. So in the end, you aren't saving money with those cheaper places. They are all going to do those lower end recoveries for the same price. And if you need a higher end recovery, as I did, you are going to have to go somewhere that offers that...and their prices will be higher. A lot of places SAY they can recover almost anything. That's nice. But they can't. So if you want to save time, go straight to the people who do it all. If it's less work, they'll give you the same low price as the other guys. If it's more work, they'll charge you the higher price, yeah, but the other place was never going to be able to do it anyway. Fact is, if you need those files, you have to pay for them. After wasting a week of my VALUABLE time, I finally took my drive to the people who would actually end up helping me. Sert Data Recovery. And of course I balked when I heard how much it would be for a level 3 recovery. However, they were pretty awesome about explaining the process to me, which really helped me to understand WHY the level 3 recoveries cost so much. For example, they needed factor in the need for parts into their budget as well as the time that would be involved in an more intensive recovery. They need to have the appropriate "clean room" and, mind you, some places say they have one but actually DON'T because they outsource. So to find a reputable company like Sert is not an easy feat. I had to think about whether the recovery was worth it. Yes, I had tons of pictures of the kids on my computer that I foolishly didn't backup anywhere else...but I also had tons of their pictures elsewhere, and I had the MEMORIES which frankly is the important thing. I thought it would be nice to get those back...but I was most concerned with writing and work related files. I had to ask myself...how long will it take me to redo all this work? How much money could I make during those hours that I WASN'T redoing the work. So while it was a bigger bill than I could afford, the only thing more expensive in the end would have been redoing that work. So I had to cough up my credit card and should be paying it off for the rest of the year... but that will be possible since I can work and instead or readoing my work. So that's WHY I went along with it and WHY it costs so much. I hate to break it to anyone hoping for some magical news, but it is what it is. Overall, I'm glad I went with SERT. They kept me updated every step of the way, and their turnaround time with fair. They gave me a price upfront, which helped (some places were like, "it's $x-$y an hour and can take x hours to y hours to complete" ... so it was like, "This is gonna cost you anywhere from $800 to $8000") Yeah, that wasn't going to fly. And PS, SERT did not charge me thousands for my recovery. They were fair. They also recovered over 20,000 files. ALL of my most important files were recovered. Some of the photoshop files and image files were corrupted, but I got all of my important WORD documents. And the moral of this story is...don't do that again! But from now on, I'll handle my computer with more care AND I'll back everything up. However, we kinda all already know we SHOULD do that, don't we? Sometimes we just have to learn our lesson the hard way. So if you are in the boat I'm in now--or find yourself there sometime in the future--I recommend you save yourself the time and headache and just go straight to SERT. I wish I had. read more

I was traveling with my USB key in my computer and had to stop short and my computer went flying and bent the USB key. I called everywhere around where I lived , no one would do it but Staples (for $369) and they were sending it out where I don't know . To be honest, I was very skeptical with this process. I broke the stem off of my flash drive to where all four pads lifted off of the circuit board. I had roughly 5 years of my life on it and didn't back it up recently. I contacted roughly 10 companies with quotes anywhere from $60-$1,500 for recovery. I finally decided to go with Sert after a smaller company recommended I use their services. Wonderful service! My two year old broke my jump drive into 2 pieces. There were wires sticking out and it looked like a hopeless case. My local computer fix-it store said they couldn't help me and I literally started crying. I didn't think I'd have much luck, but did a Google search and found SERT data recovery. They were very upfront about how much it would be and sent me a mailing label in just minutes. They said it would be 2-5 days to evaluate my case and it only took two. Most importantly, they recovered the 226GB of data from a failed laptop hard drive (all the data we requested). They said the heads had failed and $1000 later they were able to recover everything we were looking for. There are a lot of flat out fraudulent data recovery places, and other places that charge 4 times more. I used the reviews to find these guys and wanted to share my experience that they DID recover the data and they did it within their initially quoted estimates. With that said, it took over two weeks despite paying for rush service, and we next day air shipped the damaged hard drive to them. The communication wasn't great, there were long periods of silence and it felt like we only got answers when we called for an update. When we requested the recovered information be next day air shipped back it actually resulted in a shipping delay (because they don't ship UPS/FedEx). Also, when you are filling out the data recovery page, be sure to list ANYTHING you might want recovered. They did not contact us until AFTER they had recovered the data and pulled the loaner parts back out of our damaged drive so if they'd missed files it would have been a big deal to do recovery again. They do not recover ALL the data on the drive, the only recover what you ask for so make sure you ask for anything you might need. As long as you have time to wait I would recommend them since they did recover the data and they did it for around the estimated price. read more

They sounded good on paper (online), but once I sent my drive and they looked at it, they tried to upsell me to $700. I even agreed to that price - I really want my files back! - but then they had my flash drive for 2 months without ever doing anything with it. I would occasionally email or get an email or call and speak to someone, but I was told they were working on it or it was in the queue and nothing ever got done. Finally I just called and cancelled the whole thing and had them send my flash drive back. Now I have to start all over trying to find a reputable company who might help me. read more

I cannot say enough good things about SERT Data Recovery. I was on a work trip and my jump drive suddenly died. Totally my own fault, but I had not backed it up recently and hundreds of files were potentially gone. I was devastated to say the least. I did a lot of research online and found SERT. One of the things that impressed me was the amount of their reviews and how positive they were. I can totally see why now. Once I reached out, they were very quick to respond to my questions and very much understood how upsetting losing your data can be. They treated me with great kindness and spent a good deal of time trying to repair it but due to the fact that my jump drive was a monolith drive they were not able to. They arranged for it to be sent to a partner company that specializes in this type of recovery. I was told it could take up to 6 months to recover due to the repair work that has to be done so I was happily shocked when just a few days later received a shipment notice. From them getting the drive to getting the shipment notice only about 2 weeks had passed and I received it back within 3. They definitely mastered the art of surprise and delight vs the disappoint.
