I picked up a fancy Maison Margiela jacket (off the rack, on sale) and I looked like the Wizard of Oz scarecrow in it. Yelp to the rescue, and here is Mr. Serj right in my own backyard. By appointment only, in a beautiful studio, Serj takes his time using what is probably 40 years of tailoring expertise. Takes a week, not cheap, but the result was worth it. Serj is a magician! I purchased the last suit available at Alex Trebek's estate sale, even though it was too large for me. I knew it was within the size range to get tailored, but it would still be a big task. I made an appointment with Serj, and it was absolutely worth every penny. They were flexible, friendly, and the work was excellent. When I went to pick the suit up, he wanted to take the jacket in even a bit more (thanks, Peloton!) and was quickly able to do that. Serj has been my go-to tailor for the past 10 years! He is incredibly professional and is a veteran in this industry. I've been to other tailors in LA and Serj is hands down the best. I own over 100 suits, sports jackets vets and pants, and Serj and his team have altered all of them to perfection. Serj's business is appointment only, which is amazing. You don't have to stand in line and you get a private room to change into, unlike other tailors/seamstresses who only offer a changing booth. He has a lot of high end clients in the film and tv industry which means he is in demand for his talent. Serj, along with his staff, have fitted/altered many of my outfits and I've never walked out unhappy. He is very professional and friendly and finds the time in his busy schedule when you need a last minute alteration, of course a few days in advance. Not only is Serj detail oriented when it comes to his Hollywood stars, but he provides the same great service to all other clients as well. I have a birthday this Saturday and I had forgotten to get my skirt fitted, so I called Serj yesterday around 5pm and he gave me an appointment for today at 4pm. This gives him and his staff only 3 days to squeeze my fitting in their busy schedule but he was happy to help me and provided me with the great customer experience as expected, and I can finally relax because I know my skirt will be a perfect fit by Saturday. If I was posting this review one year ago, I'd have given Serj five stars. I have personally had one dress tailored there, but worked with a bride that had her dress adjusted magnificently by Serj in 2011. The time, care, and attention to detail he personally expended to make sure that my girl was hooked up - it was impressive. And because of that exemplary service, I have referred several friends to this business since then. However. Starting in November, I was helping another bride out. She was interested in commissioning a dress to be made; she's getting married in black instead of white, and we're having a tough time of it. We made an appointment to come in, booked it several weeks out. When I called a few days ahead to confirm, they were surprised to hear I had an appointment, that Serj definitely wasn't planning to come in that day. ::insert shrug emoji:: On this call, the business recommended I start emailing with Serzhik to discuss the design, cost and initial steps. And I did just that! Sent along pictures, asked questions - cool. And Serzhik initially responded! Great! Looks like we're going to be okay. But that's where it stopped. He never replied to my second email. A few weeks later, now early December, I did that courtesy inbox bump, hoping for a response. No dice. Now three weeks ago, I emailed him one last time. Totally polite, a plea for help. I did mention that I had referred a half dozen people there, that I had had a pleasant experience working with them previously, and I was now growing disappointed in their customer service. But still, no response. I know that Serj and his business generally caters to celebrity clientele, so it seems like they don't much need regular Burbank'ians to keep them afloat. It is so bad, I want to give you a zero, but that's not possible, so I give you a one. I couldn't tell you about the quality of their work because I didn't even get a chance to leave my items. This was quite literally the worst customer service experience I have ever experienced in my life. I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing them for my business. I understand maybe they're going through a lot but it's not way to treat someone. The way the man treated me right off the bat was with disdain and as if I was a bother to his life. He greeted me by saying we don't have time for this. He didn't even know what I needed. Then his wife asked me if I could afford their services and recommended I go to a dry cleaner instead. Horrible way to treat people and honestly that is only the half of it. To answer your question lady, yes I can afford it but after your lack of compassion and terrible treatment I don't want your services. read more

I was happy with my dress purchasing experience but when the dress arrived, it come way too big. I guess that's a pleasant surprise for a soon-to-be bride but still, the dress needed some major tweaking to make it fit my body properly. I found Serj on Yelp and decided to go with him because 1. he had amazing reviews, and 2. his shop was just a hop and a skip from my place, and boy, am I glad I did. Because of my work schedule, I had to reschedule our meetings a several times but he was so kind and flexible about it. He was incredibly accommodating and never made me feel guilty for pulling a bridezilla on him. His shop is clean, calming, and serene. There are no fabric pieces or threads (or pins!) on the floor anywhere, and I appreciated that. Serj is soft spoken and a real gentleman ... very attentive and listened very closely to my needs. He explained exactly what he was going to do with the dress and the reasons behind the alternation cost. I never felt like I was being ripped off - at all. I have to admit that wedding alternations are not cheap but with Serj and his mad skills, I would have happily paid a million bucks. I worked with Serj and another seamstress lady. Although I had no idea what there were saying when they were talking in Armenian, I felt comfortable. She became a third mother to me, and even though we didn't have a real conversation, I really liked her very much! On my third and final fitting, I was asked to bring a pair of shoes that I would wear to the wedding, so that they can get a proper hem measurement. I didn't have the chance to go buy a new pair so I brought a pair of a-okay, but not so special, black heels. When Serj saw the shoes, he said this to me: "The shoes are nice, but they look like you're going to someone else's wedding, and not your own." I don't think I've ever been so impressed with the way someone phrased an advice in the most non-judgmental way. He could have easily said that the pair was ugly (which they kind were), or not appropriate (which they also were), but he selected well-chosen words that got the point across, without hurting my feelings! That's when I knew that I've hit the jackpot with Serj. I know that I made a short story long, but in conclusion, the dress came out to perfection. I couldn't have been happier with the way it fit. It truly made me feel like a princess! I highly recommend Serj Costumes and Alternations. Serj worked in the entertainment industry before opening his own shop so you can see pictures of celebrities that he'd fitted on the wall. He's simply the best in the industry! I chose Serj's Costumes & Tailoring through Yelp because (1) it was close to my home, (2) received high reviews, and (3) his price quote seemed reasonable. Little did I expect really wonderful customer service, really quick turnover (four days), and a really reasonable end price ($50). Short review - I needed something sewed onto a costume piece ASAP. I needed it that afternoon - called a few places and Serj was the only one who was able to make that happen. The store is always locked, so you have to knock and they'll open it. Very nice office - Serg sits and really examines the item with you so he knows exactly what it is you want.. he's very open about what he can/can't do - and when it will be done by. Helping me with my little project in a few hours turnaround, and only charged me $20. Excellent service and work. read more

I came here for alterations and was soooo happy with the results! I bought a fitted dress online for a (kinda) fancy event and it didn't fit well to my body shape - no surprise. It's a full on glittery dress and the waist area was way too loose and the length was too long for my height. Trimming the bottom didn't seem as easy as a chop because it also had this ruffle on one side so I wasn't sure on how this could be done but it came out perfect. The waist area had just the right amount of fit without being too tight. I was also nervous about a huge fold that it originally came with. The entire thing is sequenced so I couldn't just iron it but when I picked it up, it seemed like they had taken care of it! Double bonus! Very happy with my dress and it was a huge hit at the event. :) read more

Serj is a wizard. Because of a shipping mistake, I had to order the last pair of pants to match my suit jacket. It was a 34w and I'm a 28w. It seemed impossible, but he was able to recut the entire pant to fit me to a T. He must've gone to Hogwarts because this is nothing short of magic. I had a bit of a fiasco with my custom wedding dress four days before my wedding - from a boutique. Obviously not thinking rationally at this point, I went to Serg freaking out and asking to have a different one made from scratch! Well he immediately assessed fabric , did multiple fittings and got my dress made. It was pretty close to what I wanted based ONLY on a picture. That part was really impressive to me. Due to the craziness in getting it done, I think the last fitting was missed. I'd been searching for a decent tailor for as long as I can remember. Had used many but had never been much impressed. Then, I found Serj via Google. I read the positive Yelp reviews so thought I'd give him a try. I brought in 2 jackets. One was a long tux jacket and the other was my prized Gucci over coat. Both were extraordinarily big on me being that I lost a lot of weight since i had bought them. Serj knew exactly what needed to be done. I asked him if the tux coat could be finished with-in 2-days (mind you, this is the week of Christmas) and he said yes. Sure enough, as promised, my coat was ready. I wore it that night and received more compliments on it then I've ever received on any piece of clothing I've ever worn. In short, his tailoring made me a rock star. Serj has the uncanny ability to fit a piece of clothing according to the person wearing it. He can calculate through his observation of your particular body type how a piece of clothing will look best on you. He is truly a gifted artist in tailoring and forever my favorite tailor! I took my boyfriend and his new suit in to Serj to be tailored. Serj was honest (my boyfriend is a perfect 30x30 and his pants didn't require any tailoring, Serj could have told us otherwise but was kind to explain the options and leave them as is) and he tailored the jacket precisely the way we wanted it. I had a bridesmaids dress that needed to be hemmed and let out a little around the bust. I came to Serj's on Thursday morning and needed the dress by Wednesday morning (6 days). The seamstress was very nice and said it wouldn't be a problem. Serj was also very polite and said they don't charge a rush fee. I picked up my dress this morning and it was PERFECT!
