We were on a ski trip to Durango and the kids were tired of the same old same old food so we decided to go ahead and give this place a try despite my better judgment. Coming from Austin the Mecca of Texas BBQ. I knew this was not going to live up to Texas barbecue standards however thought it might be good enough. Really this place is a far cry from any kind of Texas barbecue so just know that going in. It's certainly edible, but is not high standard barbecue by any stretch of the imagination. Aside from the Texas paraphernalia around the restaurant it doesn't seem like they've done a lot of research into real Texas barbecue. All the meat was pretty well overdone and lacked good flavoring. Additionally, they locked any real Texas sides other than their potato salad and they have a coleslaw but everything else was their own version which is OK and that's about what they were OK. Final review is definitely doesn't scratch the surface of Texas barbecue but this place is edible. However, their prices match those of good top quality, barbecue joints back home in Austin. read more

it was clean & the staff was polite. ok; totally lacking flavor, no smokey flavor at all. it needed salt and pepper. the sauce was thin and was high on vinegar. i ate it and didnt complain or ask for a refund which would have been ridiculous. ...but i will never go back. im a texan currently living in new mexico. ive had great brisket, etc from el paso to austin, las cruces to corrales, from colorado springs to denver. this stuff was edible, but not good and imo not texas at all. rt read more

The best bbq in Durango! We can't not come here without a visit. Our family of 11 all had something different and it was all fantastic. The potatoes are huge and the Mac and cheese is so cheesy! The brisket was thick and juicy. The side order of cheesy potatoes and potato salad were both great. Get the cherry chipotle salsa for your sandwich. And get some to go! Nice inside seating options. I love Serious Texas Barbecue in Durango. I frequently get food at either location, and service and food have always been excellent...except for this weekend, when I decided to try the drive-through. Service was great, I didn't check my order trusting it would be as excellent as ever, but when I got home and opened up my order, which was half a pound each of pulled pork and brisket, they were grayish in color (not the usual pink and fresh appearance) and a tell-tale texture and flavor that points to them having been packaged well ahead of time, and from the lack of freshness, I'm going to guess it sat in those containers in the fridge at least overnight. I'll never go through the drive through again, for the expense of eating out I expect fresh food, not packed and chilled ahead of time. read more

What a great place for BBQ after renting ski equipment next door! Its a usual BBQ restaurant where you order up front and they weigh out meats and pay and enjoy. Lots of delicious smoked meats, tacos, and delicious desserts! Service: Was fast and efficient. I could see this place being very busy at peak hours, but we came for a late lunch and had no trouble ordering and finding seats. Tables were clean and not sticky like some places so thats a big plus for me. Food: 1. Just the meat Brisket 1/2lb {4/5 stars, $9} - Tender and juicy brisket, with just the right amount of fat left on the cut. Some brisket is full of fat and greasy, but this brisket had a delicious smoked flavor and perfect texture. Drinks: 1. Zuberfizz Root beer {5/5 stars, $3?} - Im a big root beer fan and never tried the local I presume, Zuberfizz root beer before. It was very delicious and had a vanilla hint to it. One of my favorites since trying it. Overall: A very nice and convenient place to stop by for some quick BBQ after skiing all day. Will be back if visiting again. read more

Texan approved! Stopped in to pick up a couple of Texas Tacos (our go-to) and have been happy and full ever since. The taco has everything you could want in a tortilla; loaded with pulled pork, potatoes, cheese, onions and jalapeños with a little bbq sauce. All the goodness you can hold in your hand and stuff your face. We have been coming here for years and they are consistently good. The place is always clean and the people are friendly. If you are there in the summer you can also enjoy their patio which is covered in beautiful hanging flower baskets. read more

Food was not great. Ordered a brisket sandwich which was fatty and a pulled pork which was flavorless. Sauce is runny and the buns are stale. Cole slaw was okay and the macaroni and cheese was blah - tasted like canned cheese sauce. Service was fantastic and the beer was cold. read more

However, the menu provided through third-party app was limited and did not include everything I wanted to eat. So, I found a call-in number for the north store and tried to place an order. The person at the other end of the call informed if I wanted to place an order to go, I would have to use the limited menu. Otherwise, I could go to the store and order there. We ended up taking most of our nachos to go. Everything was delicious. The service was good. We had to wait a little bit because you order at the counter and there were several people in line. Very unimpressed. We went after 5 pm and the food was probably made early in the day. This is understandable for the meat, but not for the sides. As soon as you put the fork in it, it just all smashes together like mashed potatoes. 8$ down the drain. My wife ordered slaw for 3$ and she got it out of a cooler. It was brown and inedible. The sandwiches were supposed to have some sort of sauce (chipotle or raspberry something - I can't remember) but they were both super dry. We had to drown them in BBQ sauce. Of the four of us, I was the only one who finished their meal and I only had a sandwich. Finally, the three teens behind the counter seemed very uninterested. I was hungry I wanted someplace fast, but not fast food. We stopped here and got a turkey sandwich. I love smoked turkey but so rarely see it on a menu. So when I saw it, I jumped right on it. It is an incredibly generous serving of (what looked like hand carved turkey slices. Add on the house made cranberry habenero salsa and chipotle aioli and cheese and you have a large and massively delicious sandwich. I am looking forward to my next trip through Durango. Holy pig barbecue! From all the other reviews we were really looking forward to this place. Have no doubts that if you're looking for excellent barbecue. You must stop here. It was good, it was bad. The meat was amazing. I had the brisket. Good flavor, a crispiness on the ends. They gave me a choice of dry or wet, so I choose wet. Good choice. The sides were not good. Mac and cheese was just Velveeta shells and cheese. Super bland. The coleslaw was mayo based, but again, pretty bland. In my opinion, the sides make or break a bbq joint. The flavor and texture of the meat is worth it, the sides are not. Bbq sauce was vinegar based or very watered down, either way, didn't take away from the flavor of the brisket. read more

This is our 1st time in Durango and our friends told us about this place. It was amazing. We had the BBQ tater which is a very large backed potato, with your choice of meat, which I chose the shredded pork, cheese, sour cream and queso. I was hesitant about the queso so I asked to out it on the side. It was delicious!! The rest of the crew had brisket which was good but a bit fatty, turkey which had the perfect amount of flavor and tenderness and the pulled pork was so good. This place did not disappoint!
