An iconic Cuban staple that delivers pure comfort, incredible flavor, and true Miami soul!
When people talk about the definitive culinary institutions of Miami, Sergio's Restaurant is always near the top of the list--and after tonight, it's easy to see why.
What stood out to me just as much as the food was the unbelievable hospitality. Being Asian, I figured they probably don't see a ton of Asian customers walking in late at night to order traditional staples, but the staff welcomed me with wide-open arms. They treated me like absolute family. The team was so attentive, checking in on me and genuinely asking if I was enjoying everything. I loved every single second of the experience. Even when words couldn't fully express how much I was enjoying the meal, my face and wide eyes said it all. If they had any doubt, let this review make it crystal clear: I was in pure food heaven.
I came in hungry and went straight for the heavy hitters:
* Goat Cheese Croquetas: I originally had my eye on their chorizo with spicy honey croqueta, but they were so popular that night that nearly every single variety had completely sold out. The goat cheese croqueta was the only one left, and honestly, what a happy accident! The exterior had that signature golden crunch, breaking open into a creamy, tangy, rich center. You can instantly tell why Sergio's is legendary for their croquetas--even their specialty takes are masterfully executed.
* Vaca Frita: This was pure Cuban perfection. The shredded beef was seared flat-iron style with those irresistible crispy, caramelized edges while staying tender and juicy on the inside. Smothered in sweet cooked onions and Sergio's signature garlic sauce, every bite delivered that punchy citrus-garlic mojo flavor you crave.
* The Sides: To accompany the beef, I got Moros (classic black beans and white rice simmered together in an aromatic sofrito), which was deeply savory and cooked to perfection. I originally wanted the yuca fries, but since they were sold out for the evening, I settled for french fries--hot, crispy, and great for soaking up the remaining mojo sauce on the plate.
To cap off an incredible feast, I ordered a classic cafecito at 10:00 PM. When you're at Sergio's, you simply do not skip the coffee--it was bold, rich, perfectly sweet, and the ultimate authentic jolt to close out the night.
Whether you're after classic Cuban comfort plates, empanadas, or their solid vegetarian options, Sergio's hits every note. Outstanding food, heartfelt hospitality, and authentic heritage. A 10/10 dining experience! read more
