This Cuban grill is a good quick stop for croquetas or a sandwich. It's a small shop with only a few tables outside, and the service is often good, sometimes fair. My son loves their croquetas, I usually get the croqueta preparada sandwich, and hubby likes the medianoche. My friend works in Coral Gables on Saturdays and I wanted to meet him for a quick dinner. I looked on Yelp and found this place. It's a Cuban sandwich shop and I know it's authentic because they speak Spanish. And I don't. Which is difficult but my friend is from Nicaragua, so that helped. I had the Media Noche sandwich, which is the same as a Cuban sandwich but it's made with sweet bread rather than Cuban bread. Ham, pork, cheese, pickles and mustard. It's delicious. My friend asked the young lady behind the counter what she would recommend, which might have been his way of flirting with her, I couldn't tell. It was in Spanish. At any rate, he wound up with the chicken sandwich. He was not expecting anything much but he was quite surprised at how good it was. It's not a fancy place. The locations is small, so there isn't much seating area so we rather order than go there to eat. It gets busy. Cuban comfort food goes a long way... With daily specials priced so attractively and served so generously, this little spot in SoMi has become my refuge for my Cuban yearnings quite often. Personally, I'm not really into beans so they've offered to replace that side with the soup of the day which I find quite fulfilling honestly. I've had their picadillo, tostada, palomilla, pan con bistec, and their medianoche and have had a great experience each time. While I do wish they made their own shoestring potatoes for the pan con bistec and also served fresh mariquitas, I'm okay with it because the prices are unbeatable. Everything I order is ready within minutes which is great for people on the go like myself. They offer delivery during certain hours of the day but I've picked up all my orders in person because I find it faster. There's outdoor seating available which is great during the cooler months. There are a few things that need work on at Mojito Grill number one we ordered four appetizers and three drinks and that came out to over $50 a person number two the Tostones Reno with Rob Vieja were either old or impossible to bite with your teeth so we were only able to eat that Bobby Vieja in addition to this the band was setting up in the afternoon I guess for the evening and while we were there, we had to leave because the noise was so loud. The young lady took my order, relayed to the cook to grill chicken and the rest was already prepared. It took less than 10 minutes. It was an generous amount of food for under $10. I will definitely go back I would say this is a take-out more than sit down restaurant. There are a few barstools and a counter and several tables and chairs outside on the sidewalk. Eek. Not great. We came in at a very slow time, so I can't blame the food quality on them being rushed. I ordered a pan con bistec, which was very tasty and quick, but I tried my friend's 'cheeseburger' and was very confused. First off, the burger was put on the same long cuban bread as my sandwich.... this meant that there was a hamburger patty in the middle surrounded by a ton of plain rectangular-shaped bread. Another friend ordered their Cuban Bowl, which consists of rice, beans, grilles steak, and plantains. We were all surprised when he opened the container to see one tiny shriveled up plantain. Luckily, they gave him another plantain when he asked about it, but it was very odd considering he had made a point to ask and make sure the dish came with plantains. The bigger issue to me is the condition of the restaurant. We're talking dirty, falling-off ceiling tiles, filthy AC vents (which didn't seem to be working very well- it was sweltering inside!), and an overall dingy interior. This is basic stuff that has just been left to get dirty and stayed that way- doesn't build confidence in the food.... This place is in need of a serious cleaning and some TLC and though their signature pan con bistec was very flavorful, this does not make up for the rest of the food/cleanliness/heat of the location. read more

Grabbed a quick lunch at Mojito Grill on Saturday afternoon. Just ordered the Cuban Wrap and ate it sitting at an outdoor table. Quality Mojito Grill is a no frills Cuban spot in South Miami. It is a place to get some quick food, primarily for take out. I ordered the Cuban Wrap, which is stuffed with white rice, black beans, plantains, and either grilled steak or chicken. I went with grilled steak, which was actually much more flavorful that I expected. The highlight of the wrap were the bites of the rich and sweet maduros. However, my issue was the black beans overwhelmed the entire wrap. I like beans, but too much of it, especially the juice it soaks in, can be off-putting. I felt like the wrap needed some sort of flavor balance and the selection of sauces were limited and not what I was looking for. Quantity The Cuban Wrap is a solid size and makes for a filling meal. It is probably a little bit smaller than a typical Chipotle burrito, but close in size. Value The food at Mojito Grill is very reasonably priced, with my wrap coming in at under $10. I actually don't think I saw anything on the menu that was over $10, so at least the food is a good price. Ambiance Mojito Grill is found in South Miami within a strip mall commonly referred to as the French district. In the midst of three separate French restaurants and bakeries stands this little Cuban spot. The inside area is almost completely taken up by the kitchen. A counter runs around the area in case you are interested in watching or dictating how your food is made. They have a few bar seats at the window towards the entrance, but the grill makes the inside space very warm. After my food came out I grabbed a seat at one of the four tables they had along the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. Overall though it is definitely more of a take-out location. They had Spanish music playing inside at a loud volume, but outside it was pretty calm and quiet. Crowd A few people strolled in and out while I was waiting for my food. Most came just for a quick cafecito and were on their way. I would expect a larger crowd to form at lunch during the week, but it was relatively quiet on the weekend. Service The staff is definitely more comfortable speaking in Spanish, but I had no problem with my order. The food came out quickly and everyone working had a smile on their face. Parking You are able to park in the lot directly in front of the strip mall for free if you can find a space. Just don't venture to any stores outside the mall because you will get towed away; they have a security guard constantly watching. There is also plenty of street parking in the area nearby. Extra I was not particularly impressed by Mojito Grill's Cuban Wrap. While I did like the steak and the plantains, the black beans completely overwhelmed the dish. I also would have liked some sort of sauce to balance out the flavor. With so many other nearby options I think I would pass on Mojito Grill. read more

Apparently, charging him for his colada that was ready was more important than allowing me to finish placing my order. He (the customer) even apologized and commented that the employee "curved me hard for no reason." AGREED and therefore, he lost my business today and forever. 5 Stars for my absolute favorite wrap ever, their Cuban wrap. It is filled with grilled chicken, white rice, black beans, plantains and caramelized onions. This thing is huge. As soon as you take that first bite you know you're entering nirvana. The chicken is perfectly grilled, moist, full of flavor. The rice and beans add that burrito factor - a la Cuban and need I say much about the plantains? Of course they are the perfect ingredient in this wrap! All that deliciousness is tucked inside a flour tortilla, cut in half for faster indulging and delivered warm. They offer free delivery with a minimum order of $10. If you are in South Miami you should order this ASAP. If you are in the Falls area, I hear there is another Mojito Grill around there also! read more

Yeah, it's low priced and moderately fast but the food wasn't that tasty. As a good engineer, I ordered my "control group" dish. The chicken piece was a little on the small side and tasted greasy. Onions seemed burnt. The moros was served separately as black beans and rice. Seasoning was lacking by my standards, Ordering is a little messy, I think. You place your order and then wait to pay. We had a great lunch here. My favorite is the wrap with steak. It's very juicy and the meat is delicious. Also had to get an order of tostones! Glad we did. Catering! I was so lucky to learn about the catering before my family dinner. We had the steak vaca frita with beans rice plantains and also ordered some appetizers. The whole process was so easy. Tl;dr authentic Cuban, fast paced, friendly and delicious I went to Mojito Grill last week, looking for an authentic Cuban place that was walking distance from Red Commons UM. Luckily, I found this gem thanks to Yelp. Mojito is a small shop with the exact atmosphere that I was looking for. They have a straight forward menu and quick coffee options, with people coming in for a quick bite or drink. The cashier was brief but helpful and friendly. I got the Pan con Pollo and it hit the spot. The grilled chicken was cooked to perfection and the flavors were balanced with the sauce and bread. The sandwich was crisped in the press to the perfect degree. For these reasons, I'm giving the place 5 stars. O recommend you try one of their sandwiches. The pan con bistec (steak sandwich) has excellent flavor and seasoning but it completely fell apart when I tried to bite into it. It turned into a hot mess and became more like a deconstructed pan con bistec salad. I would eat here again if I had to but don't think I would go out of my way for it .
