News article from 09/28/23 regarding Paris Puppies Paradise!!! PLEASE ADOPT DON"T SHOP!!!…read more Iowa authorities rescued nearly 100 dogs from a puppy mill over the weekend, many of whom were living in their own excrement. On Friday, a deputy from the Boone county sheriff's office was conducting a welfare check on a missing woman and came across what appeared to be a puppy mill, the sheriff's office said in a press release. Local outlets reported that the missing woman, Sara Stanfield, was connected to the Paris Puppies Paradise facility, which breeds goldendoodles, according to its website. The sheriff's office has not disclosed the extent of Stanfield's involvement in the puppy mill's condition. Puppy mills are high-volume breeding facilities that produce puppies for profit and disregard the needs of the puppies and their mothers, according to the Humane Society. Animals in puppy mills are treated as cash crops and are often trapped in overcrowded cages with minimal shelter from extreme weather and forced to sit and sleep in their own excrement, said the non-profit Paws. Many suffer from malnutrition or starvation as a result of inadequate or unsanitary food and water while adult animals are bred until they can no longer produce before being destroyed or discarded, added Paws. Following the discovery of the puppy mill in Boone county, authorities contacted the state's agriculture department along with the Boone Area Humane Society and the Animal Rescue League of Iowa to assist with the rescue. According to the ARL, upon arriving at the scene, the "smell hit us before we even entered the buildings". "The dogs were living in their own feces and urine, including some pregnant mamas and newborn puppies. Many of the dogs were matted and some incredibly thin. One by one we carried them to clean crates so they could begin the journey toward their new lives," the ARL said. Pictures posted online by the ARL showed dogs with severely matted fur completely covering their eyes. One photo showed what appeared to be goldendoodle puppies curled up against each other, no more than a few weeks old. In its press release, the ARL said that although its kennels were already full, the dogs could not wait so its team set up temporary housing to accommodate the influx of canines. "Our medical team also quickly came together and gathered the large number of supplies needed to provide care for each and every dog and puppy," it said, adding: "When the dogs arrived, our teams worked into the evening to make sure they were all cared for and comfortable." The sheriff's office announced that an assessment of the facility was conducted by the state's agriculture department and that the "facility owner cooperated and ultimately agreed to allow approximately 93 dogs to enter the care of the ARL and Boone Area Humane Society". It said that as of Wednesday, some dogs remained on scene and the facility owner continued to cooperate with authorities. No determination had been made at the time regarding criminal charges, it added. There are an estimated 10,000 puppy mills active across the country, with 500,000 dogs kept solely for breeding purposes at these facilities, according to the Humane Society. Approximately 2.6 million dogs are sold each year puppy mills.

No frills; just a quiet farm where, if you'd like, you can have the dogs run around. The animals are verified for health before being allowed to board, so no need to worry about your loved ones getting sick while you're gone. The location is a little out of the way; you have to go down Sand Hill Trail, a gravel road, for a couple miles. But it's well worth the trip. Pick-up and drop-off during weekdays is before 7AM and 5-7 PM, which can be tough, but on the upside they are open Sundays 12-6PM (closed Saturday). The rates are great too, $8 per day (call to confirm); SO much better than a certain location on 580th that charged me $800 for a two weeks to board a dog and cat! I had called many different places on 4/28/26, but it was after hours for most places, so I had to wait until the next morning. After calling a bunch of different places and hearing outrageous prices, I was able to find All Pets Animal Hospital, and I'm really glad that I did. The person I spoke with was very kind and understanding, and the price for cremation was under $300. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a caring and understanding smile, and she had mentioned that she remembered we spoke on the phone earlier that morning. She treated us with compassion and patience. My Mom had carried her cat in with her blankets, and the woman behind the desk (unfortunately, I can't remember her name because this was a tough day for all of us) gently received my Mom's cat as well as the blankets. My Mom had asked if the blankets could go with her cat, and the kind woman said she would ask and try to make sure that the blankets go with her for cremation. We received all information very clearly, and the transaction was as painless as possible in that type of situation. We will be receiving my Mom's cat back in a velvet bag, and we were assured that this would be a private cremation; meaning she will only be cremated by herself and not with other animals. Overall, this is definitely somewhere that I would bring my animals. This is a place that makes you feel comfortable and cared about.

After approximately three years of bringing my cats to Somerset Veterinary Hospital, I never…read moreexpected to write this review. I had zero previous issues with Somerset, which makes this experience especially disappointing. My cat Peach has an established heart condition diagnosed at Iowa State University approximately three years ago. Her August 12 appointment was her annual monitoring appointment for that existing condition. She had an X-ray and ear culture performed, which I paid for up front. Dr. Crane did not explain Peach's X-ray findings to me at all. The radiographs were not reviewed with me, and I was not told what they showed regarding her heart or what the findings meant for her care. After the appointment, Somerset did not proactively contact me with the results or follow up about Peach's health. I had to repeatedly call and message the office. I called every day for 13 days before I finally received the information in writing. When I raised my concerns, I was told this was simply a "difference in communication styles." That felt incredibly dismissive and, frankly, gaslighting. This was never about communication preferences. It was about not being given my cat's diagnostic information and having to repeatedly pursue results of services I had already paid for. What was most upsetting was how this made me feel about the importance being placed on Peach's health. She has a known heart condition, and this was specifically an appointment to monitor it. Having her findings left unexplained, receiving no proactive follow-up, and having to call for 13 days left me feeling that Peach's health concerns simply were not being treated as a priority. There were also billing concerns. Prices had increased, but those changes were not disclosed before the services were performed. I was charged $390.76, including $72.76 for medication, and questioned why I was charged more than the previous year despite some services, including blood work, not being performed. My concern was not that veterinary prices can change--it was that the increased pricing was not disclosed beforehand. I requested a refund because of the circumstances surrounding the diagnostic services I paid for: the lack of timely communication, no proactive follow-up, and having to repeatedly pursue the results. My complaint was never that the tests were not performed. I made multiple attempts to resolve these concerns privately. I told Somerset that if the issues were not meaningfully addressed, I would seek care elsewhere and would not bring my cats back. Somerset subsequently terminated the veterinary-client relationship effective August 27, but that termination did not cause my decision to leave. I had already lost confidence in the practice and communicated that I would be finding another veterinarian. On August 27, I also requested complete medical records for both Peach and Willow, including diagnostic imaging and their medical history. As of September 6, I have received neither the records nor a response. Peach has another veterinary appointment September 10, making those records especially important. Throughout this entire situation, the only person who apologized was the receptionist. I never received an acknowledgment or apology from management. After three years with no previous issues, I never expected one experience to completely change my level of trust. Unfortunately, it has. I no longer feel comfortable trusting Somerset with either of my cats, and I will not be bringing them back. I attempted to resolve these concerns privately first, as I said I would. I am posting this so other pet owners can make an informed decision about their pets' care. If Somerset meaningfully follows through, including providing the complete records I requested and addressing the outstanding concerns, I will update this review.
