    Pete after his grooming

Just took Pete to Moni today for the second time and he looks great. Just moved to Ames in November and we are really glad to have found Serenity Pet Spa. Great work and very friendly staff and very reasonably priced.

This is a great place to board the pets while you're gone. Rest assured that they are in a clean…read moreand maintained environment. No frills; just a quiet farm where, if you'd like, you can have the dogs run around. The animals are verified for health before being allowed to board, so no need to worry about your loved ones getting sick while you're gone. The location is a little out of the way; you have to go down Sand Hill Trail, a gravel road, for a couple miles. But it's well worth the trip. Pick-up and drop-off during weekdays is before 7AM and 5-7 PM, which can be tough, but on the upside they are open Sundays 12-6PM (closed Saturday). The rates are great too, $8 per day (call to confirm); SO much better than a certain location on 580th that charged me $800 for a two weeks to board a dog and cat! Becky is a veterinarian, and her children are always there too. Wonderful people!

We've been taking our 2 1/2 year old lab/terrier mix to her for almost 2 years now. Charley LOVES going, and is exhausted when we pick her up. (And we LOVE that! She's a hyper 85 pound dog people!) We'll never take Charley anywhere else. The ranch is clean, is run efficiently, and is the perfect spot for our baby to spend a wknd. The rates are also completely reasonable! Try it out for yourself!

She is my first call when I have travel plans for a day or a month. Even when I'm in town but extra busy, I call her to help free up my time and give my fur babies extra attention.

Amy is GREAT! You can tell that she does this job out of pure love for animals. She is just so…read morecaring and willing to do whatever it takes to take care of your fur babies while you are away. First off, she will come to your house before she takes care of your pets and completely explain her services. She wants to meet your pet and make sure he or she is comfortable with her first. She is licensed and bonded and has high standards for her employees. She doesn't just come and feed your pet and then take off. She spends at least 20 minutes at your house making sure they have human interaction, not just a meal. She takes care of animals that have special needs and are on medications. She does house sitting as well, watering plants, putting trash can on curb, getting mail, etc. I was so grateful to have her for my older cat Boris. He was refusing to eat, which is very dangerous for cats. I had to leave and was nervous for him, as he was pretty sick. Amy took the necessary time needed to coax Boris and get him to eat some food every day. I was so happy to have her. I even had surgery one time and needed someone to take care of my cats while I was incapacitated inside the house. Her then-employee Jill came every day and still spent the 20 minutes with the cats. It was great because I was stuck in my recliner all day and couldn't play with them. Her rates are more than reasonable for someone who gives this level of service. If you get stuck in a snowstorm at the airport or something, you just give her a call and tell her you won't be home on time and she will gladly extend the length of service. When you get back, even if it is on time, she asks that you give her a call saying so, so she can be sure your pets are safe. She cares for your animals as if they were her own. I honestly cannot say enough great things about Amy. It might sound over the top, but when I move away from Ames, I am really going to be feeling the loss of such a trusted caretaker of my animals.

You get what you pay for here. We did not learn anything new. I am a new dog owner so I was excited…read morefor these classes because I did not know how to train my Collie/Malamute, but honestly I feel like I wasted my money and time here. In our 2nd session, the trainer started grabbing her corgi's balls. She was caressing them and told us to do the same. She said that her dog liked that. Nope. That's borderline beastiality. In addition, the instructor is rude. She's got an assistant that I believe is scared of her because she will come to you quickly and tell you to do what the instructor wants or else the woman is going to get mad. Most sessions, the trainer just walked around talking a lot and saying anecdotes. She had string cheese and would pull it out and give it to her dog. It was like 45 minutes of talking and talking and then 15 minutes of actual training. I went to Ankeny's Kai's Dog Training for a free half hour session. I learned more than what I learned at the Cyclone Country Kennel Club's 6 week classes. In Ankeny the results are impressive. I was very surprised that I could get my dog to sit next to me without having to yell at her or grunt at her (which is what the other instructor wanted us to do). My dog always jumps on people and in Ankeny's half hour session, was able to train my dog not to do that. I would rather pay more, but know that I will get good results. The place is not big enough either. Maybe three cars fit in there. My class had 6 dogs and that was pushing it because there was not a lot of space to do good training. Not to mention that they are kind of obsessed with showing your dogs. They will mention it a lot to you that you should show your dog. Nope. I am not there to show my dog. DO NOT waste your money or time here. It will be pointless. Invest in your dog and take them to a good place. They deserve it.
