Dealing with Tamera was the one of the top 5 worst experiences I've had in my life…read more This is a SHADY rescue that I DO NOT recommend! I can relate to all of the other negative reviews. When I called to inquire about adopting a puppy Tamera sounded as if she cared. She seemed knowledgeable & acted like she cared about the dogs she was putting up for adoption. After I agreed to adopt the puppy she asked if I'd like to also adopt the older male dog that was her kennel mate. I agreed. It all turned bad after I put in my application & provided many photos of my home. She quit calling back when she said she would. She then moved up the date to meet for pick up. She explained that the male was getting neutered & said I could get the pups on Saturday instead of the original day, Sunday. She told me she would text last night to give me a meet up date/time. I was up late last night & was wondering if I was even going to get them, because she started being horrible about getting back to me & just kept telling me "I work 18 hours a day." I had even offered to drive to Auburn from Ocean Shores to pick up the pups. She refused & insisted we meet up. After failing to text me last night she finally texted this morning & provided a place to meet up & gave a time of 4:30 pm. Just as we were walking out the door she called to change the time to 6 pm & informed that the male is infected with "Coccidia"...a worm. I wouldn't even have been able to see the dogs at 6 pm at night! She took the male in to be neutered on Friday knowing full well he was infected with a parasite! She stated that she had been treating him for 3 days & then said "the puppy doesn't show any signs of it, but I treated her anyway." My roommate was present, I was on speaker phone, so he is a witness to EVERY conversation. She was informed, during the interview, that we had just had to have our chi/mix that we had for 10 years put to sleep on 12/7 due to cancer of the lining of her stomach. Well, a puppy can EASILY get dehydrated & die from Coccidia! If these puppies had died, I would've been EVEN MORE devastated, because I just lost my beloved dog. What I'm really wondering is why she didn't tell me 3 days ago? My roommate finally said "enough is enough, there is something wrong with this rescue, call & talk to her & if she doesn't offer to make this right just cancel." I was so excited about getting the pups! I had so much time, money & emotions into buying their supplies, setting up for them, getting the food she recommended, etc. I was staying up late nights stressing about everything to be all prepared for them. I was watching updated training videos & had invested a lot. I can't even return the food, or the expensive crate (she told me to get a larger one than what I originally ordered). When I called to discuss this with her she didn't even apologize, she YELLED at me & was so unreasonable! I have text messages for proof. She told me that she was "transparent" with me. If she were transparent she would've been HONEST about the dog being infected with parasites 3 days prior to today! I have a genetic autoimmune disease & my immune system is compromised due to the meds that I take, I told her that during the interview. Some types of Coccidia can be transmitted from dogs to humans. Changing of times, failure to contact me on many occasions, were all understandable. HOWEVER, HER FAULURE TO BE HONEST ABOUT THE HEALTH OF THE DOGS WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE! When I called her I expected professionalism, I thought she might apologize & offer to hold the dogs until she was sure they were cleared of the parasites... No, she immediately got agitated & YELLED at me! She then admitted that the puppy had some loose stools & when I asked, she informed that they had just been rescued 2 weeks ago. I had adopted my Chi/mix from a rescue through Petfinder, previously, & it was a wonderful experience, so I didn't expect any issues. I will definitely be researching any rescue I work with after this NIGHTMARE! She doesn't have the pets welfare in mind, because she told me not to take the puppy outside until she was 7 months old & her immune system was fully developed. Yet, she put a 3 1/2 month old puppy with a 1 year old Chi/mix that is infected with parasites! If you read the other reviews, her neglect has caused dogs to die from Parvo! Then, she sent nasty texts lying about everything that took place & had the nerve to say "good luck adopting a dog." Tamera is ruining it for people who want to adopt to save animals lives & provide loving homes because they won't be able to trust rescue agencies after the emotional roller coaster she puts people through. Then she is emotionally & verbally abusive after all of her failures to simply be honest! Why is she allowed to work in this field? She should be charged with animal cruelty & neglect! In fact, I am calling the police & I am going to research every animal protection agency I can to report her!

In all of my experiences, even the stressful ones, SHS has been a good org to work with. I really appreciate being a part of caring for animals and for this org that cares so much and has really great programs. Lastly, I really appreciate the pet loss and support group I attended when we lost our 15 y/o cocker spaniel (that I adopted from SHS). It really helped us move through our grief and I'm so thankful that SHS facilitated and offered that.

Some people manage to get pre-approved for pets but there is no way to do that on the website, which is confusing. The bad: Seattle Humane listed a dog as no special needs. We took time off work, prepared to visit and apply, we were ready. First in line, the volunteer told me before we met the dog she's undergone 3 operations - 2 for cancer- since arriving. Also she had a major bladder operation and requires special food and no treats, recurrence is likely. None of these are deal breakers for potential adopters w a big budget for operations, but why wasn't this in the description. We met the dog and she was cute, but we didn't get a room- we got to go in her little kennel and squat down (avoiding the urine) and try to get to know this dog who is still wearing a big plastic e-collar. Poor pup! Also meeting her first me, then my husband (as volunteers handed out peanut butter on bags as enrichment which she wanted badly) was chaos. I know these places are busy, and smaller animals are in demand, but for the sake of the dog's success in a new home please be more up front about medical problems AND reward our time outside in the cold lined up for opening by giving us a place to visit where we could both meet the dog without her bumping her plastic head protector on us. Last spring my husband was first in line seeing a dog- they sat him in the kennel w a dog who never came out from the divider in back. They interrupted his visit to say "sorry someone was ahead of you, you need to leave". This was another odd case of a successful dog family being treated like we're really not welcome nor do they care if we adopt. Our last dog lived to be almost 18, our last two cats were 18 and 19 when they passed. Our dog and one cat we're both special. Medical needs. I've trained and shown dogs and I volunteered with animal rescues for over 20 years. I've been on multiple boards of directors for shelters. Adopters are potential donors and supporters and I wish Seattle humane took that more seriously. We were very sad that the dog we had hoped to adopt and arrived. Prepared to apply turned out to have medical needs that were never disclosed. That little dog could've been taken home by the wrong family who really doesn't understand the scope of her medical needs because they didn't find out until they got to the counter and already had their heart set on her. That is the wrong journey for the dog and the humans.

We have good jobs & are in our 30s, but we got the strong impression as soon as she saw us that she had decided we're impulsive, idiotic 20-somethings. While we were visiting, she was mean to the poor little dog, called it "ugly" and "difficult", constantly lectured me, and argued against everything I said. Still, my partner and I were very nice to her & chalked this up to her being a quirky animal lover. She wouldn't let us take the dog home that day, and sent us home to "think about it". Later, after I called to leave a message with her about how my partner and I would be thrilled to bring that sweet little dog into our lives, she called me back... and I am still in utter disbelief at how she treated me. Kim gave me a flat-out no, saying that even though she wants the poor dog "out of her house" & doesn't think she'll ever get adopted, that no one else is interested in her, she'd prefer the dog die in her house than ever adopt it out to us. She then went on to make wild and unfounded assumptions about our relationship being volatile, unstable, & abusive--we still have no idea where any of that came from!!! Seriously, what?! Then, she accused me of emotionally manipulating her and my partner, simply because I got choked up at all the horrible things she was saying to me. As soon as she heard the emotion in my voice, Kim mocked me, saying, "Well, now you've REALLY lost the dog. I'm trying to have an adult conversation with you and you're doing what I'm sure you do to your partner to get him to do what you want." She told me that I might as well go to "one of those rescues where they'll give anyone a dog," and that she expected me to do that as soon as I got off the phone with her. I have never, ever been treated so horribly as I was by this woman. Kim has singlehandedly turned us off of ever going to another rescue run out of anyone's backyard. Overall, she's an absolute insane mess of a person. I only feel awful for the dogs she brings into her care, and I'm brokenhearted to know that the one we went to visit will have to stay with her -- possibly until the end of her days. Do not give this woman your time or business. She's insane.

Forgotten Dogs rescued our dog the day before she was going to be put down. She was overlooked at the animal shelter because she was cowering in the back of her cage, was droopy from having nursed puppies and she is a black dog. Her mid-section firmed up and she gained confidence and really blossomed with the security of her foster home. She is an incredible dog, cute, smart, and is very expressive. I held her and knew I wanted to take her home. I was provided a reasonable sum of money to adopt her and decided to proceed. when I asked what the process would be another employee came in at which time the process was reviewed and I was told the cost would $500 for her (she was a pup)! this was way outside my budget and I certainly would have said yes knowing the outcome of pocket. when my daughter and I mentioned that was not the price quoted we were told that there was nothing they could do. so I left. 1 hour and tears later I turned around and spent money I shouldn't have. "nova" was anticipated to be a small breed (24 pounds or less) wiener mix. Fast forward. "Nova" is now Magnolia/Maggie she is 35-40 pounds and shows every trait of a coon hound. Ending: over paid for a puppy after being quoted a lower price (yes I went back and paid it) that is bigger then I wanted and a breed that doesn't really work in an office due to the whining, howling and need for activity. oh and did I mention that they forgot to send her home with meds for after spay and wanted me to drive back from Yelm to Auburn? nice facility. disorganized. Not willing to follow through in incorrect pricing quotes.
