Pugs are adorable dogs that make loving companions. Unfortunately, each year many are given up by…read moretheir families for various (often sad) reasons. Luckily, the hard working volunteers at non-profit Seattle Pug Rescue take these abandoned dogs in, give them foster homes, and work tirelessly to find permanent homes for them. As a pug owner myself, I urge you to adopt a rescue pug rather than buy one from a breeder. Last year SPR placed over 60 dogs! Visit the website and click on the available pugs to see the dogs available now. Pugs are truly adaptable and will be your best, most snuggly friend when given the chance. They are highly social and can't be left alone for really long periods of time. You should know this organization does a thorough interview and home check to make sure that you and the puglet are the best fit possible, and there are adoption fees to cover costs.

We were first offered the opportunity to have one of her puppies join our family after she decided this puppy's temperament would not fit well with the family that she was originally destined to join. That family would have been first-time dog owners and had young kids. Our dog's temperament has worked out well with our family, but I can see that patience with young kids has not been a strong suit for her. If you are seeking a puppy that comes from a loving home-based environment with care given to their genetics, I can highly recommend Shedless in Seattle

They give accurate descriptions of their dogs because they want their dogs to truly fit in their new families. The fosters also train and help the dogs learn how to be a family member. Forgotten Dogs rescued our dog the day before she was going to be put down. She was overlooked at the animal shelter because she was cowering in the back of her cage, was droopy from having nursed puppies and she is a black dog. Her mid-section firmed up and she gained confidence and really blossomed with the security of her foster home. She is an incredible dog, cute, smart, and is very expressive. She is popular everywhere she goes. Follow them on Instagram @forgottendogsrescue to see their dogs and when appropriate many of their posts are humorous. I highly recommend Forgotten Dogs Rescue they have a lot of integrity and are knowledgeable, reputable, responsible, kind, helpful, supportive and loving rescue.

One reason, I think, is that we selected puppies with good bloodlines from good breeders. We've known Jeff and Karyn for 17 years, talked to them at shows, watched their dogs, heard about their careful breeding for health (and conformation), and listened to other dog people talk about Wagsmore's standards. Just last week at the SF Cow Palace dog show other dachshund exhibitors were praising Jeff and Karyn and their dogs. These are good breeders. They are alert for genetic problems and match up bloodlines to have healthy puppies. They know each of their offspring, can talk about the puppies' personalities, they play with them, and they care about the quality of potential homes. If you're looking for a miniature long hair dachshund (the best type to have!), Wagsmore is a good place to check out. They don't always have puppies, but when they have dogs available those puppies will have a great shot of being long-lived and happy.

I consider my dog a family member, not a pet. Seth is someone I personally trust, because he is very passionate and committed about his work. It is very hard to find genuine, caring people nowadays, so it is a breath of fresh air to find someone who is accountable and trustworthy. The great news is that dogs ALWAYS tell the truth when it comes to people, so just bring your dog to Seth for a meet and greet, and they will tell you their opinion themselves. 4 paws up!
