I enjoy going to this Sephora only because I can shop without being chased around the store by the pesky sales people. I agree with the other Yelpers, the customer service could use a bit of help. I also find that when I DO need assistance, the staff have NO idea how to help me. I went in for a highlighter and I was told by the staff that she (or he... it looked like a he) doesn't use highlighter and didn't know how to help me. I feel like a little kid in a candy store every time I come here! This is the only place I can be in for less than 5 minutes and drop $100! There are endless selections of goodies for looking and smelling good. I am a HUGE fan of the First Aid Beauty (FAB) brand that they carry. The FAB Ultra Repair skin moisturizer is the only product that will help with my red, dry, wind-burned skin in the winter. Also, who can say no to the Philosophy brand products with every scent imaginable? Make sure you get the FREE Beauty Insider card from them so that you can get additional great deals. Went here for a free makeover since I recieved a coupon for it when I became a VIB and because I had a wedding to attend. They couldn't find my appointment at first and it took a while before they finally did. Then the wait time for my makeover took long. The woman doing my makeup did the best she could, but she ended up ruining my lashes by making them over-clumped. Took 20 minutes to try to fix it but it still was clumped and sticky and hurting my eyes. Eventually I left and just bared with the pain, but when I came back to my hotel room, I saw she got foundation IN MY HAIR. I spent good money getting my hair done and couldn't get the makeup out without ruining my hair further before the wedding. Never again. This also might be my last straw with Sephora. read more

came here today and just because i am a young african american girl the women in the store the second i walked in they thought i had stole something and were talking about me on their microphones and followed me around and it just made me feel uncomfortable and as i was walking out i went up to them and asked them if there was a problem and if they needed to check my bag and they acted stupid like nothing had happened and as i walk out they talk about me. it's 2019 and i can't even walk into a store and just look around without being profiled as a criminal and i'm sick of it. im just a 16 year old visiting from florida and i've never stolen anything in my life. i work in customer service and i would never profile someone based on their religion or race. it's just very sad i'm very disappointed in today's society. read more

I explained that I do not wear make up and unfamiliar with what to choose from and what is best for my skin. They have every make up item and accessory you could ever possibly need or want. lots of product on shelves, lots of testers available and the staff was knowledgeable. This store used to sell Chanel and their excellent products, but this changed. I now shop there for Orlane, and the selection (overall) is very good. They also no longer sell the full suite of Shiseido cosmetics, a loss. The makeover I had was good, but there was too much make up applied. I have for sometime tried to avoid Sephora stores - overcrowded and in my experience not always the most helpful staff - just due to volume. But today - I had the BEST experience at the GT store with Todd. I wanted a couple of make-up pointers, a refresh to being the new year and Todd was AMAZING. I worked for many years in the fashion industry with some of the best editorial make-up artists and Todd was easily as good, if not better than many. He was generous with his time, tips, advice and just hilarious. Such a wonderful energy. Anyone going to this store needs to seek him out. WONDERFUL! read more

Customer service must be a dirty word here. I've shopped here many times, and it is always the same--indifferent at best, rude at worst. They seem to specialize in make-overs, then selling customers the products they use. But if you come here knowing what you want to buy, good luck to you. Earlier this week, I asked a clerk for help in finding a particular product, and she ignored me--just kept on sorting through her register receipts. I called to make an appointment to get my makeup done for a special date night with my husband and because I was looking to switch to a new mineral makeup brand since Bare Escentuals irritates my skin. You have to buy a $50 gift card for Sephora and then the makeup is free. Not an issue since it's easy as pie to drop $50 in this store, especially when you are switching brands. I arrived on time and barely had to wait to be taken to skin prep, which was short and pleasant. I didn't feel that they tried to push me on any skin prep products, but were good making suggestions based on my skin type and condition. After about 10-15 minutes in skin prep, I was led to my makeup artist Eric. He listened as I explained why I was getting my makeup done, the look I was going for and what products I was interested in. He was very pleasant to talk to, really funny and engaging and made the time fly! He answered all of my questions about his technique very thoroughly. I walked out of there looking great and also picked up a few new products at his suggestion, all of which are working out great! All in all a super fun little treat! read more

I've been here about 5 times before, and every last time, I find the staff incredibly rude. They have so much attitude and don't even try to be helpful. The last time I was here, the cashier didn't even ask for my reward card after I dropped a couple hundred bucks, and said it was "too late" to go back and add the reward points so I'd have to call the national customer service number to do so.... Seriously?! Learn how to do your job and then do it. Ugh. read more

DISLIKE. STRONGLY. It was like pulling teeth to get someone to help me. I asked someone and they said that someone else would be right over but that took like 10 minutes and when the person appeared they thought it was people standing nearby who needed help. So the sales person went over to them and I interjected and said it was me who asked for help even though those people were also wanting help. Geez. It was so terrible. Also the woman helped me for literally 10 seconds (I was trying to pick out the correct color for concealer bc it is winter and I keep getting more pale) by handing me a concealer and telling me it was right and walking away. I was really unhappy with the entire thing because I was also looking to buy some other things but I just found them on my own and quickly got in line. Waiting in line was also painfully slow because the cashier had to point out to everyone what they could get with Sephora points and the customer then had to inspect it before deciding against it. Gosh. I was never ever go back here although I can't rule out ordering from Sephora online. Hmph. read more

Sephora stores always have the best selection and this one is no exception. However, I was appalled at the lack of customer service myself and my best friend received in this particular Sephora location. The associates acted as if our questions were outrageous ("can you help me pick out a red lipstick?" and "do you have this eyeshadow in the back if it isn't on the floor?" not "can you diagram the chemical composition of this lipstick while standing on your head in the middle of the street?"). As a new DC resident I am beyond disappointed that the ONLY store in the district has such egregious customer service. Every associate, down to the one who checked us out, was rude and short with both of us and I am truly shocked that this store has so many positive reviews. I have been a loyal Sephora customer and I have had great customer service in every other store I've been into, but I will be ordering all of my Sephora products online for the remainder of my time in the district. read more

The people that work there are not helpful. Walked in there more than once and it is always difficult to find anyone willing to help. Once I asked a salesperson for the location of Stilla stand, she dismissed me saying that they only have eyeliners. When I said that an eyeliner is what I want she pointed to a location that turned out to be wrong. I ended up walking out and not buying anything. However, usually the salespersons working behind the cashier are pretty pleasant and helpful but always overwhelmed. read more

Service here is SO hit or miss. Skin care is usually pretty good. I've only found one makeup employee that has been helpful though. I went in today to try to make an appointment for a free makeover after receiving an email offer. A sales associate and artist told me that I could wait for a cancellation but that would be pointless and that if I made an appointment I really had to be on time. I was running 10 minutes late for my custom makeover. However, even when I did arrive a little later the makeup artist that was assigned to me was super friendly (Kelley)! She sat me down and greeted me. Study my skin while she was consulting with me. I wanted a natural look with a glow. Kelley knew exactly what I wanted, I hate foundation love tinted moisturizers, without even telling her she brought the exact product I use daily for my skin. Once I saw her bring my favorite moisture I knew I was in good hands. Kelley cleansed my skin with green tea (LOVED IT) and did magic to my face. I wanted to cry I've never met a makeup artist who really is studious and ensures customer satisfaction like her. My face was absolutely flawless! The only bad remark I have on Sephora is the makeup chairs are too tiny, it's not meant for females who have wide hips and a bit of booty. I kept sliding off my seat and it made me highly uncomfortable, but, Kelley was super patient. Definitely, will recommend this store and Kelley for the goto person, she was worth spending more than $50, plus, I learned how to pencil my eyebrows naturally! Sephora=Heaven. They have an excellent selection of makeup, perfume, and skincare. I frequent the Georgetown location, and the staff has always been friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the products. They may not have everything, but they have so much that it makes up for the fact that they don't carry my Laura Mercier or Creed perfume. The only thing that would make this store better is if were about twice the size. I've been to bigger stores in New York and could literally have gotten lost in them, which I see as a positive in this instance. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars instead of 4. read more

I hate going to this Sephora. I live in DC but my boyfriend and I drive out to VA to show at the Sephora in Crystal City because it is less of a headache to go to that one than here although that one has its flaws for other reasons. First of all, this one tends to be so crowded because it is the only one in DC. Second of all, it is on M Street which is the busiest street in Georgetown. Third of all, it is very difficult to get to because there is no metro access and it is expensive to get a cab or Uber of Lyft to it if you live as far as I do which isn't that far (Mount Vernon near Chinatown). We have a car but good luck finding parking. There are 2 buses which drop you off nearby but depending on far of a commute the ride is for you and whether the bus arrives on time, the trek is long. It is difficult to get any help because there are so many customers in the store. You are always bumping in to people. Women are constantly taking 3 or 4 colors at a time so I can never try on the things I'm interested in purchasing. I have asked some of their sales people for recommendation and each time I have gone home and tried the product they suggested I have had to return it. That never seemed to be my problem at the Sephora stores I shopped at when I lived in NYC. I don't know if it is just bad luck or they don't seem to be very knowledgeable about the products they carry or make up. And it is a pain to have to come back and return items every time. I guess I'll have to keeping going back to Virginia or just order online and return items online. read more

I shop at Sephora often, in different locations. This was my first time at Georgetown, and I was impressed with the service all around. I asked for assistance and the store manager personally was helping me test out a lipstick, and then when I needed a specific foundation from Smashbox she called over their specialist with that line to assist me. I asked her about their mini-makeover lessons, and she explained it to me and then offered to do it right there, so she gave me a fantastic "How to" on the Fall 'dark purple lip' that's popping up everywhere - but without making me look like a clown. She helped me find the products I wanted afterwards, without pushing anything. The other colleagues who were helping clients nearby were also very friendly. I was in a plain teeshirt, shorts, and flipflops so I don't feel the exceptional service was because they were expecting me to drop a ton of money. Would definitely go back - it's smaller than the ones I usually visit, but the service made it rock. read more

Keen Sephora regular here, but I fully agree with a reviewer from Mountain View, CA, on this page, regarding the "Halloween makeup" on the female sales reps -- it's way too heavy and obvious for Sephora's bright, daytime lighting: they look like painted ladies on October 31. If that is supposed to be a good and motivating example, forget it. I don't know anyone who wants that look for regular wear. And most employers would frown on it, if you got hired at all. At a few of my local Sephoras in Silicon Valley, several sales reps (American speakers) don't know how to pronounce some of the products they are selling, i.e., Smith's Rosebud Salve (a wonderful, timeless product) is pronounced "sallvé" ... no, no, no, 'salve' is not a French word, alas. When a smudge removes part of the salesperson's eyebrow or lip, or heavy false eyelashes give the rep a perma-bemused facial expression, AND they can't pronounce the products they are selling ... it gives an impression that is anything but beautiful. read more

This Sephora seems larger than other in the area which is great. It also is cleaner than other Sephora stores which was a pleasant surprise. However, the sales associates were not helpful. I noticed three to four standing around and chatting with each other and asked for assistance and was was directed to another area (fine) but there was no other associate to assist. I like the location, I could spend there hours just browsing. The service is so-so. Some ladies just chat on the floor rather than help. I noticed it several visits in the store. However, I would like to mention Eric, who was great and picked me a wonderful bronzer. He showed not just only one product, he presented others and let me choosing the one, what I love. He seems to be really knowledgeable and loves what he is doing. Also, there is a young lady, who helped me couple of months ago to find the best matching powder, what I repurchased this time. She was awesome,too. She even run after me in the store to give a primer sample. I did not get her name, unfortunatelly. And one another thing..I found it weird, that the lady offered one of the 3 samples for 100 points at the check out desk. Samples sould be free, like everywhere. So far, they always included free sample in my bag. It is not a big deal, just found it strange. read more

I've been a loyal Sephora customer for years, but felt compelled to write a review after my great experience today. Normally, I feel a bit uncomfortable when sales associates approach me when I'm browsing at Sephora, but Whitney went totally above and beyond when recommending products for me. Not only were the products she recommended excellent (she applied them for me), she gave me samples of each in addition to skin care samples. This is not a very good Sephora. I've been to a number of Sephora locations and the service here is just lousy. The store was nearly empty of customers but no one greeted me at the door and three different employees walked past me but didn't ask if I needed help. I finally approached one (who was just talking to another employee) for help. When there was no tester available on the shelf for a product I was interested and I opened one myself, the employee was very rude and scolded me like I was a kid. If you aren't going to be attentive to your customers you can't get pissy with them when they start helping themselves. Anyway, long story short, this is a crappy Sephora. read more

You have to love the products at Sephora ( not the prices!) Unfortunately this location has several issues; bad parking, dirty testing samples, and staff that runs hot-cold depending on the day of the week. I was there recently on a slow evening and the MUA were taking about how much they hated their manager and barely even looked at me until they thought I was trying to steal. I don't really need help but am always pleased to be acknowleged. Upstairs was better than in the makeup area except that many of the sample products were really gross and I wasn't comfortable putting them directly on my skin. it is only fitting that i do my first review on a cosmetics store, seeing as i absolutely love all things makeup! i can spend hours at a sephora without purchasing a single item. i love the fact that you get to test products in the store and then come back and purchase if you like it enough. i've been a customer of this particular location since 2006, and despite the fact that one just opened in annapolis which is a bit closer to me, i will continue to patronize the georgetown location for the simple fact that the employees pick up on the body language of the potential consumer, meaning that they know how to back off when not needed and that they offer great assistance when it matters. on numerous occasions which i've shopped at this location, i've been offered nothing but the best customer service. one of the better shops in georgetown (which by the way, i try to avoid at all costs). read more

This store is not as big as most of the ones I'm used to in NYC and they don't seem to have the skincare products I've always purchased at Sephora (Kinerase, Pangea Organics). Is it because they are small, or because they no longer have a relationship with the brands? Before I got the chance to hunt for a new eye cream I was touted a Perricone cream, (although I refused to be up-sold because I chose a product in a comparable price range to the Pangea and Kinerase products I've been wearing for years). I did ascertain that the woman who "accosted" me in the meager skincase dept, upstairs was a Perricone rep in-training and not a Sephora sales person, and asked her some tough questions about her company's products, because I've been around the block long enough to know there's no such thing as hope in a jar, regardless of the name of one of Philosophy's products. Having a Sephora within walking distance in Georgetown is infinitely better than no Sephora at all, because it's better to be able to physically try a product on your skin before you purchase it, to determine whether it's greasy, for example, or in the case of makeup or fragrance, whether you really like it and it compliments you. But this store does not have a large selection compared to other Sephora locations, and I'm dismayed at the lack of skincare options available and was not entirely thrilled with the hard sell I received today. Unlike department store cosmetics and fragrance counters, Sephora has always been about the consumer being able to mill about unmolested for as long as she likes, trying as many products and brands as she wants to without feeling pressured to purchase something specific. read more
