Worst experience today with manager Laura at Thousand Oaks. I Told her I had to return 2 items that were gifts, and she said I could. When I went to the register to exchange them and buy some other stuff she said that I couldn't and the policy had just changed. I was so upset that she told me Yes and then said No It's not right and it's horrible customer service!!! I totally understand and respect policies, what I don't understand nor like is being told something and then changing it!!!! I was so upset I ended up leaving over a $100 worth of stuff and not buying anything at all. I shop at Sephora a lot and just became a VIB, BUT NOW I will have to start shopping elsewhere for all my cosmetics. Eek- not sure what's going on with the negative reviews since all my experiences here have been overwhelmingly positive. Mostly because each time I visit, there's an extremely helpful and nice employee (I always forget to get her name, but she has a tattoo sleeve!- GO FIND HER SHE IS THE MOST HELPFUL AND KIND EMPLOYEE EVER YAS) My go-to location! The employees here (like 95% of them) are very helpful, and are great at recommending products. I love that they are friendly, without being pushy. I would recommend avoiding Friday nights here- lots of teenagers running around, like literally running in the store. read more

I am extremely disappointed and will be shedding light on this experience in any way I can. Yesterday, at the Thousand Oaks Sephora, I was denied entry to the Sephora store by a young man. I was wearing a bandana as I entered the store to shop. Which, according to the CDC's own website, is one of the compliant face coverings listed. I was told I could not shop there unless I wore a hospital mask. This is communism when you are making up your own rules and forcing them on others. You can not decide what is appropriate and against the CDCs own guidelines. Fortunately, I found two other Sephora's who welcomed me with open arms and were happy to take my money with my bandana on. Sephora in general is a great store, they have such a wide variety of brands and the stores are always reasonably laid out and clean. My rating is more regarding the staff and whoevers job it is there to keep their products in stock. My small pet peeve is that a lot of the products I wanted were out of stock, I totally understand that things run out but this time it was a matter of whole shipments probably not being ordered in the right quantities, I hit that moment where I was like "oh they didn't have the shade of lipstick I wanted, oh well I'll pick my second choice, oh wait that ones out too, and my third choice, oh not that one either?! Well f me right!? -_- Also the staff is so hit and miss here! It's sucks how some rude employees totally unbalance the awesome girls I had help me today. I had a few super friendly helpful staff approach me which was awesome, unfortunately by the time I would need help I was surrounded by girls that would rather gossip with each other then notice my awkward way of trying to get their attention and not interrupt their ever so meaningful gossip session. My final annoyance was when I tried asking this one employee for a cheaper clear top coat nail polish, I let her know I had found one for $12 in the store but I was hoping for something cheaper, she proceeded to show me the one I was just telling her I didn't want because of the cost and she replied "well it's only $12". Ummm excuse me? That's pretty rude, if I said it was too much for me to spend I meant it, rubbing it in that I'm cheap or something isn't going to persuade me to buy it. read more

An accident in sephora thousand oaks mall got me shocked. Assistant didn't wanna help me and after that the same woman cashier met me to check out, Half an hour trying to find my phone number in the computer, she said she can't find it, and I asked if she can do it by email, then found me by email tried to fix my phone # as they wrote 18 instead of 80 after I wrote it on a piece of paper she making some weird comments all the time telling me that my handwriting is wrong and I don't write number 9 right. However I wrote it the same way you see on the screen now. She wrote it with a straight tail and said this is right way... no words I paid and in the end I said sarcastically that I will work on my handwriting and moved towards the exit, some old blonde woman in a orange blouse that were standing in line started offending me by saying meaning that I have fake body and face. I moved towards the door but I got bad feeling and stoped and explained situation to the manager Megan with teary eyes however everything I have is real and I don't go to gym my bad for few months sometimes... orange woman started coming out and she is looking at me I asked her: How can you talk like that to people you better look at yourself and fix yourself, you have no rights talk this way to me, I wasn't talking or even looking at you". She got evil and not even didn't say sorry but said something worse. Manager Megan instead of asking her apologize asked me to leave and my friend came by the door at that moment, standing by the door outside the store I told my friend what happened. Orange woman pretending victim called securities to walk her from the mall out probably was afraid ... we just left after I told manager Megan that that story is gonna be told on yelp, on web, to customer service etcetera. But I can't fix people's ignorance, jealousy, stupidity, envy, ugliness. Especially womens. Yes. Women are much more mean than man. Bad man is nothing compared to bad mean woman. They picked me because of my accent. It is insult. You dont target customers based on race. However I have bachelor diploma. Does she? I agree with most of the reviews already posted here. I'll usually visit this Sephora for my makeup and skincare needs, even though the Westlake one is closer to where I live, mostly because of the wider selection that they have to offer at the Oaks. I've gone in wearing a full face of makeup and no makeup, wearing professional clothes and casual clothes... it really doesn't matter, because I've hardly ever been acknowledged. After today's terrible customer service, I finally decided to post a review. I was looking through the skincare section reading the labels of some different products when a sales associate walked by and asked the couple next to me if they needed help. They said no, and I was waiting for the sales associate to ask me since I had a few questions. She never asked me, however, and walked away. I was looking around trying to look for others to ask for assistance. There were two sales associates in the skincare section, one seated and one standing up, who were chatting away. We made eye contact but they continued on with their conversation. I ended up leaving the store empty-handed, partly because I had not received help and partly because I didn't want to spend my money at a store where my presence was repeatedly unacknowledged. On my way out, I noticed that the same employee who had initially skipped over me was by the door, thanking everyone and wishing them a good night. Unsurprisingly, she did not say anything to me until we made eye contact. She then said simply, "Thanks" and I said the same thing in return. Really disappointing that such a popular, fairly pricy store can have such repeatedly awful customer service. I mainly liked the selection they have and the ability to build up points, however, I can easily sacrifice those things if it means better service at Nordstrom or another department store. read more

I can't believe how awful the customer service is here. This has happened multiple times and I am finally writing a review. Starting with the girls at the front of the store that just stand there in a group and talk. They NEVER greet you or ask you if you need help. And if you do need help or have a question you feel like you're bothering them for asking them to help you and actually do their job. Secondly the Manger is TERRIBLE!!!! I asked the cashier her name and she didn't really want to give it to me. I believe she said Lauri or Laura? She is SO extremely rude. I've worked in retail before and I understand the whole shoplifting, BUT I am a grown women (26 years old) and I'm a Rogue member with Sephora! with that being said I PAY* for everything I own from Sephora or else I wouldn't have that level with their membership program. Yet every time I come into this location I am followed around the store. and approached in an extremely rude way when I am holding items in my hand. The manager I am referring to is little heavy set dark complexion with dark long eyelashes and dark hair. You can right away tell she's the manager, and the ringleader of the awful customer service at this Sephora location. Thirdly the location is very dirty and not well kept or stocked at all! I sometimes walk out without the items I need and came there to buy because I wouldn't dare try and ask one of the workers to help me because they are so unapproachable. Nothing is ever stocked on the shelves so sometimes if you want something you have to ask for help. Stay away if you can and order online or visit a different location. read more

I just got home from this Sephora and feel inclined to share my poor customer service experience. I was returning an eye cream that I tried twice (no issue with that return) and a liquid pump foundation that I used about 10 times, mind you, I only used 1 or 2 pumps per application. The bottle was still over half full. The foundation was in my bag being tossed around before I returned it, so the product wasn't settled showing how much was actually used. The girl helping me with the return was really sweet, she seemed new and unsure of the foundation return so she asked her manager if it was okay. The manager opened the foundation and looked in it, looked at me and pointed towards the bottom of the bottle and said, "Today we will make an exception but we normally don't return anything that's almost empty." Well, that pissed me off. I told her that I only used it a handful of times, pointed towards the top of the bottle and said that it's actually filled up to there and we can sit here all day and wait for it to settle so she can see. She again said that they will make the exception and return it and then walked away. I don't think she understood how offensive she came off. She was accusing me of trying to return something that was almost completely used instead of being sympathetic to the situation. Sorry, but I'm not that cheap. If I am spending top dollar on makeup that doesn't work for my skin, I expect to be able to return it no questions asked. I wasn't looking for money back, only store credit. And before this happened, I was intending to spend the credit and then some at this location. I'll definitely be taking my business elsewhere. I was looking for a TESTER because they were all messed up for these items I wanted and the tall, long dark-haired gay man came out all frazzled and told me so rudely to "stop those aren't testers! Went here yesterday for a full face makeup from one of their so called professionals. That I evened up washing off as soon as I got home and redid my makeup myself! This was the WORST makeup session I've EVER had and I've had many sessions with previous Sephoras in the past. This person made me look like a 80's hooker! Nothing was blended, I had streaks going down my neck and the foundation didn't even match my tone. The eye liner was like a 5 year old drew it on and my blush was the same color as the eye shadow she put on (no where close to the photo I showed her). This girl has absolutely NO business doing makeup! Especially because all she did was talk about her boyfriend and how her clients spend so much money in the store. If anyone has ever gotten their makeup done by this girl and liked it, they're BLIND! Also I called the store to complain and get a refund and all they did was give me a 1-800 number to call and hope I'll get my $80 back. This place is trash! read more

I've recently found myself to be a problem customer. I just discovered I have an allergy to an ingredient found in nearly every cosmetic and hair product on the market. As I entered the store, I was...ok, I'll admit it...I was desperate! I had little hope that I'd find quality cosmetics that didn't cause me to have an allergic reaction - and that suited my face! Then I met Diana. She was friendly and eager to help me. We went around the store reading the ingredient list on products from EVERY makeup line. A daunting task, but Diana was up for it...not only did she help me find what I needed, I discovered I actually had choices! OK, they were all ridiculously expensive...but like I said, I was desperate...and now I can wear makeup worry-free. This particular visit was stellar. Yet all my other visits over the years have been excellent, thanks to the knowledgable and friendly staff. read more

I love shopping at Sephora but I really try to avoid this one at all costs! Its pretty similar in appearence to any other Sephora and has the same products however the employees here are pretty pitiful. For example, Ive been to this location on multiple occasions and everytime the staff has done my make up its been aweful!!! I always go there with the intention of really liking the make up they do because they are supposed to be professionals, clearly they arent. And customer service is as equally bad. The employees are snooty and not knowledgeable about the product. I was having some trouble finding a good foundation match so I asked for some help. I told the girl which one I thought was closest but she insisted it was another color. Once I took it home, it was at least 2 -3 shades lighter. The worst Sephora experience that I've ever had. I have started shopping at Ulta but miss brands like Buxom so made it over to this Sephora while I was in the area. The sad thing is - I was looking to spend some money and restock on some products. Waited around for someone to help me for over 15 minutes - when I finally was able to get someone's attention, she was rude, snarky, and condescending when asking suggestions on a primer to use. Usually I feel like I don't have enough personal space in Sephoras because the girls are always trying to sell -so this was a very strange and disheartening experience. I've learned to just shop at Ulta and buy my specialty products online rather than go into the store. I would suggest skipping this Sephora. The ladies (and guys!) who work here are always so kind, helpful, and patient. I have been going to the thousand oaks location since 2013. When I worked in the mall I used to come here on breaks to get my makeup done and try new products. The store is always immaculate, even when very busy. Always plenty of staff, and even when they are overwhelmed they are prompt to get back to you. I am hooked on their liquid foundation and matte pressed powder foundation. Lipsticks are a wonderful consistency and I probably will never go back to drugstore makeup again. I am a Sephora Brand makeup fan! read more

Wow. If I could give half a star on this review I would. My encounter with this store was the most unpleasant experience by far I have had in any beauty supply store. I'll get right to the nitty gritty. I live down the street and stop by the store a few times a month. Not to mention I'm a service freak. But as I walk in I notice that I'm getting stared at by a couple of the employees. No greeting, No hi and No how can I help you. After browsing around and finding nothing that I thought my significant other would like, I head towards the door way when I'm stopped. They ask me if I may empty my pockets. Excuse me? I asked off of what basis would I steal anything from a store that I come to often. I'm told that it's protocol and I replied that unless they have proof that I stole anything then I'm leaving. They asked me more questions and it's around this time I'm positive they are stalling for security to arrive. I get my appearance is a flag for stores like Sephora but get real. I emptied my pockets and immediately faced a wave of apologies and was offered a gift in return of my "inconvenience". An inconvenience is not the term. Great place to discover and test new cologne or hair product, but due to the consistently high pricing i've been using Sephora as an "Amazon Showroom", often finding prices that are 50% cheaper on Amazon for the identical product in-store at Sephora. I know most people shop at Sephora because it's in a popular local mall and they have the ability to charge those prices, Sephora does provide some decent samples with purchase when available, and their website is actually really well designed, just can't justify their prices for common products! read more

I have been in the store two times now, and both times I've been very happy. I am not a fan of makeup, but I have the worst dark circles (the kind that are genetic, and will never go away) and I decided I needed to put on my big girl pants and buy something to cover them up. The first time I went in, Diana helped me. She was super patient, listened to my concerns and took the time to try different lines of coverup on me. I brought someone with me to be an extra set of eyes, because I didn't trust myself to make a good decision, and she did not get impatient with me asking my friend for her opinion. Super nice. The second time I went in, it was crazy busy, and Megan ended up helping me with another issue. She took the time to find different products and colors and I felt she was honest with her opinions about how the makeup looked on my skin. I was so intimidated to go into the store the first time, I almost didn't do it. Everyone was very nice, from the makeup artists, to the salespeople. I've been to this location twice now and it is bizarre how NO ONE greets you. They see you but don't say anything. I work in retail cosmetics and greeting a customer can honestly make or break the sale. I have a feeling they have something against customers who come in with an already full face of makeup, bc my coworker said the same about this location. They do not approach you at ANY point. Let me start by saying, I LOVE Sephora. I am 26 and have been shopping at sephora for about 7 years now. However, I come to this location out of pure convenience as it is the closest Sephora to where I live. I find that this specific location has the least friendliest of staff of all the Sephoras locally that I have been to. Some of the women that work here come off as very rude and unhappy to be there and I come from a background in retail and would consider myself an easy costomer. Also not to mention, every time I have been asked with help on matching a foundation, I have been matched wrong so a good tip for anyone shopping at this location is to ask for a sample before trusting their opinion because when you do realize it is the wrong match and go to exchange it, they might give you a hard time. read more

Terrible customer service. I went in one day looking for special edition items that I knew were being sold only that day. The girls up front said the sale was actually the following day so I left. I came back the next day and they told me that the sale was actually the previous day!! And they are now sold out of all the items!! They didn't even care about the mistake they made and didn't even try to make up for their gross incompetence. Even when the manager came to ask what happened, she barely said sorry and did not try in any way to make up for what they did. I was waiting for the GOT collection impatiently. I tried on line they were sold out. So i called this store in the mall on may 1 to ask them and i was told we are launching it tomorrow. I ran next day and waited by the door until they opened and to my surprise they had nothing. So i asked the 3 ladies standing looking at me and their cold answer was "no we are launching them tomorrow. "i said i was told last night that this was the day and again very cold and indifferent "no it will be tomorrow". So i went home and cancelled my appointments for the following morning to go and get my products. I ran again the following morning and what do i hear! It was launched yesterday and we are sold out. Sorry!i was furious! I called the other 4 sephora locations around me and they were all sold out. Urban decay website was sold out and needless to say i was desperate. I kept on checking every website and at the end i was thrilled to see all the products available at macys.com and they had "friends and family "discount so i ordered everything for me and my daughters! My daughter's prom is his Saturday. She doesn't wear makeup usually, so we went to Sephora last night for product and tips. When we walked in, one employee was working with a customer. The other employees were standing around in groups of 2-3 talking to each other.. Nobody greeted us, nobody asked if we needed help, nobody said ANYTHING to us until we left. They were too busy standing around visiting with each other (please note, one employee was busy cleaning). We left Sephora and went upstairs to Bare Minerals. There was one employee in the store - she greeted us immediately even though she was working with a customer. A second employee came out shortly and scheduled a "gratis" prom-makeover for Saturday afternoon. I was looking for more affordable products and she introduced me to the Sephora collection and WOW. I already love these products I am so excited. I was there yesterday searching for a product and I asked if hair perfume would be in the hair section or near perfume. The sephora employee told me hair and rolled her eyes like I should just know where everything is. I browsed the hair area and felt very discombobulated. They've rearranged some since I was in there last. I go up to her one more time and tell her I wasn't able to find it and she tells me: "Well we don't have it then." - Her tone was the eyeroll this time. Some of the other employees were free and within hearing distance but they didn't offer to assist me. They were standing around waiting for the store to close in the next 20 minutes. Screw that! Been here twice. The Ventura one is waaaay bigger and waaaay better. The staff wasn't accommodating vs Ventura.the place is so tiny and they don't really have everything I need. Although one of the ladies I noticed was watching me like I was going to steal something. Which gave me a bad taste in my mouth. Pissed me off. So she tried to as me questions that she didn't think I would answer on "fresh" products.
