My review pertains to a health and beauty product I bought from Sephora. It was a men's deodorant from the brand Jack Black. I have been shopping around at different health and beauty places and picking up deodorants I have always been meaning to try or to just try out something new. Brand names like Jack Black are a bit more expensive than say what you can get at your garden variety big box retailer but so far through my fun project of brand explorations most of them have not been disappointing. The fragrance of deodorant I got with the Jack Black brand was Cedarwood and Cardamom. It's a great fragrance combination and I love applying it each morning since I broke it open. I got so into the fragrance I got another Jack Black product on a fragrance I found intriguing so we will see how that goes. I bought the other deodorant from a different Sephora location however just in case I came across product variation from two different stores (yes, that's a real thing) and wanted to buy additional health and beauty products. Associates are often unhelpful and unfriendly towards people of color, especially when you have a darker skin tone. They tend to overlook you and rarely ask if you need assistance. It's a disappointing experience given the associates' behavior. read more

I feel like it's known that employees at Sephora have an attitude but most of the employees at this Sephora are just mean spirited. It's almost like they have that "I'm better than you" mentality. I have never written a review prior to this one. Thanks to my daughter's guidance on the process. Here is my attempt. I recently visited a store where I felt extremely uncomfortable browsing due to an altercation between two associates at the front of the store. One associate loudly exclaimed, "I don't appreciate you coming off like that!" with the other associate, the one with the ponytail continued to apologize profusely, while the other associate with a heavy makeup grew increasingly rowdy. Which is unprofessional and unnecessary. Meanwhile, a courteous lady wearing a blue face mask repeatedly apologized to me for the incident, clearly appearing embarrassed and uncomfortable. She offered to assist me in finding skincare products from a different brand, but I declined, assuring her that she didn't need to apologize for someone else's entitled behavior. I pointed out that there were many customers present, attempting to shop peacefully. The behavior displayed by the associate was utterly unacceptable, especially considering her position as a Sephora associate, as a kind-hearted employee in the makeup department with glasses later informed me that her name is "Bianca" and she is one of the managers in store. I was shocked by the unprofessional and unkind conduct I witnessed earlier today at Sephora Tacoma Mall, and I strongly believe that her behavior needs to be addressed to prevent other employees from feeling compelled to resign. I wouldn't recommend any one to come shop to this location with an employee like that? Acting so unprofound towards the other associates and making them feeling little and unsafe. I haven't been to the Mall or Sephora since way before COVID. But had to go to Apple Store 2 months ago and stopped at Sephora. I asked the assistant if she would recommend a lip color me. She rudely waved her hand around and said "there are so many, you have to choose yourself". I know this is true but I thought that is why they have these people floating around. Great team, very professional and super friendly. We had a little bit of trouble with some returns being partially added to a gift card and the rest on my card but it was okay in the end. I had a great experience with Celia too, I think that was her name - sweet blonde woman working the floor who was very eager to help when I asked for assistance getting foundation matched. I knew what I was going for in the NARS section but I kept failing at finding my match. Once I let her know what I had tried, showed her a picture of it in the sunlight (I highly suggest walking out of the mall to really see what it looks like), she knew exactly which one to try next. I'm pretty happy with this purchase and think we found a great match! My only suggestion would be to have a few more suggestions up her sleeve because I needed a nice long-wear effect to cover up my dark spots and she told me all Sephora products would be fine. Fair, but I need some suggestions for these spots and love getting little tips and tricks from the ones who use this stuff most. read more

Once again, I got pulled into shopping in a mall with my friend and as soon as we got into the mall she made a B-line right to Sephora. I'll never understand why people want to spend $$ to buy make up but I guess people have been doing it for ages and to each his or her own. So the general set up is just rows of seemingly endless makeup and cleansing products and colognes and cremes and brushes separated by makeup stations where some of the workers help to apply the latest and greatest on your face. We went on a Sunday afternoon and surprisingly it was like busy in spurts. It felt like it was elbow to elbow for a minute. All the mirrors were taken up by one to three people trying to put on as much "free" makeup as possible and then scatter like ants. I was also surprised by the amount of guys in there getting their makeup done or cramming palette after palette of make up on and leaving without paying for anything. Also lord help the one makeup artist on the floor trying to balance consulations and mixing samples and answering questions. Tell me why there were like 5 people on the register and there was only like 3 registers? Get out on the floor and help people. My friend, who seriously needed help finding the right color and collection to use had to wait until the one girl on the floor, who was very busy but looked like she was calmly and gently inhaling and exhaling the tide of customers rushing in an out, was done helping a guy with his brows. Everyone just putting make up on without using the proper applicators or their fingers, which I think is highly unsanitary and somewhat gross. One girl nearby took a lipstick right off the shelf, already uncapped mind you, and put it on. The lipstick looked like it was melty and had lip crusties on it before, and then she goes and basically puts it on like she's sucking on a popsicle. Get it together....please. Also, there was an odd smell, not quite perfume, not quite B.O, not quite Bath and Body Works. Anyway with everyone hogging the mirrors trying to make them beautiful but possibly making themself look worse than when they came in, this place seems like not a place for serious beauty gurus. Frequent shopper that visited the Tacoma mall store for the Gucci flora set, online stated that this store had four available. I did not see the product on the floor so I asked an associate (Carol) if she could check to see if the store any available. She was rude and dismissive and responded i'll go check in the back before quickly walking away. A few minutes later she proceeds to the back. She was gone appx 10 min and returns with the other lady pick up order. She gave the lady her order and proceeded to continue browsing around the store, so I then approached anther lady (CC) who was also rude and went back to the first lady to ask her to look she appeared annoyed and rolled her eyes then proceeded to go to the back and check. She came back rather quickly and said we don't have it. That's was ok, I will just go to the next store, but because of her blatantly rude behavior and attitude, I wasn't inclined to believe her and proceeded to tell another association ( T'naya) my experience and ask her to double check. She was AMAZING! pregnant and all, T'naya went above and beyond with her service! she went to double check for me to ensure that they did not have it because the store said they had four. Once she confirmed that she could not find them on the floor with her operations manager she offered to call another store nearby and see if they had any available, she had already done so much I told her not to worry about it that I would just make my way over and see for myself. She profusely apologize for my experience and wished me luck finding the product. These are the type of people that are appreciated and customer service. Went into Sephora to get a self tanner I asked a worker about it and she pretended to know what she was talking about and urged me to sample the self tanner on my fucking hand I said no and she sprayed it on my hand anyways insisting it would show up within three minutes and I know damn well it would show up in hours she did not listen to what I had to say and acted like everything was fine my hand is now orange and I have to go to work tomorrow like that I left without a self tanner read more

I stood there, glaring at her hoping she'd get the hint.... watching her play with her phone and joke around with this new bff with no regards to the line building behind me. After standing there short of 10 mins, she finally started ringing up the girl's items on the register... but at that point I was aggravated and didn't want to waste more time, so I put my lipstick back on the shelf and walked out. 2 gals working a weekday afternoon, the store was empty. Had the worse experience here. I went in looking for a moisturizer. At the tine they had a promo with spending 100$ you get 20$ off. Cashier couldn't do her math right after 2 attempts. Ripped me off only giving me 15$ off when I was 50 cents short from reaching the max amount (100$). This is a really good Sephora. Ok, they are all basically the same - but, the staff here was far better than I'm used to encountering. So...I was in need of a lipstick but I'm super, super, super picky. I told the friendly staffer that I wanted something that was a similar tone to my natural color, mostly matte and nothing that screamed "I AM WEARING LIPSTICK Y'ALL". Basically, I am insane as the whole point of lipstick is to look like you're wearing it but I digress.... Super Staffer found me a Dior lipstick that is MAGIC - for real! It looks like an awful, Barbie-doll pink Walgreens color - but when you apply, it has magical color changing properties to enhance your natural lip color. I am serious - SCIENCE, bitches!! Called today 4/2/23 to inquire about a perfume availability at the store. I was immediately put on hold for 15 minutes, hung up and called back, wasn't able to get through to the store then hung up and called again, tried explain to the women that I had already called and they left me on hold for 15 minutes, she said "okay, just one minute" and proceeded to put me back on hold, no apology or explanation as to why it may be taking 15+ min to get my question answered. There's no reason why you can't take 5 min to answer my question about whether or not something is wrong with in stock. The in store shopping experience is meh and the customer service over the phone is embarrassing. read more

This Sephora is smaller than the others in the general region (Southcenter, Bellevue, Downtown Seattle.) They also don't carry any of the palest shades in any line - you have to go to the other stores or online for that. There are also a few lines missing that other stores carry. The staff here greeted me but seemed like they had other, more important customers to get to, so I found my way around on my own. That's fine, I generally know what I'm looking for. The cashier's station is kind of tucked up against the side and isn't situated at all for a line to form. My guess is that at busier times, the line kind of gets in the way of shopping a few key sections of the store. One thing I do like about this store? All of the fragrance items are tucked away in a back cubby - keeping them safely out of my migraine-trigger zone. A Sephora first! read more

Ive been going here ever since I started wearing makeup but over the past few years I feel like they act as if the customer is stealing unless they look a certain way. Ive came here multiple times and had some what good experiences but today I went in just to look around and see if I needed anything and They did greet me and ask if I needed help but as I walked around looking for a face mask the employee who had asked if I needed help stared me down and followed me as if she thought I stole something. I came in with a picture of the sparkly dip I wanted and they matched it perfectly on the fingers. The color didn't quite match the toes, but both ended up so beautiful. They matched the best they could to gel toes. Erika did such a fabulous Job and even taught me some things about my type of nail bed. She was very meticulous and worked for her tip. This sephora is always a hit or miss, a lot of the times, the associates never really give you the time of day or attention when helping even when it's a slow day. But there are days where that one amazing worker just makes you feel welcome and really feels like they care. That was not one of those days. Five stars for Cecile. If you need to book studio time, look for her. She is a veteran in the industry and a huge boon to this location. While many of the associates are knowledgeable at Sephora, it's a Russian Roulette type situation. I brought a bag of my foundations with me in case the person doing my makeup wasn't good at color matching. Fortunately, I didn't have to worry. Cecile sold me on a bunch of great retro-colour make-up that I've been dreaming of for quite some time. No one's ever gotten it so right before. Not as big as some locations, but they have all the basics...where does the smaller size show? Newer lines or products are slower to come in. For instance, on my last visit they didn't have a full range of OCC (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetic) items.... I don't find all the staff uniformly expert for make-up application or tips, but everyone is friendly and welcoming. Don't forget to sign up for your Very Important Beauty-insider card! read more

I've deduced that the only way you'll receive any kind of customer service (much less be glanced at or greeted) at this Sephora location is if you come in wearing a face full of makeup. But then why would they presume that I'm not just replenishing my makeup collection or trying to get started with makeup? I've come in with a full face and that's usually when they'll acknowledge me but that's just disappointing. I brought my mom here as she was looking for a few nice lippies to replenish her collection and I'd had pleasant enough experiences up to this point. We walk in though, and there's no greeting, no smile, no acknowledgement at all from anyone. When I was finally able to find someone to help us, the aloof salesperson basically told us to take a number and stand in line for the counter service or whatever it's called. Look, I understand that sometimes people just come in for free samples and run (even then, you should still be treating everyone with the same respect) but we really only needed someone to point us in the right direction for flattering shades or brands. My mom didn't even want a tutorial. After waiting for awhile, we just left and went to the Clinique counter where they were more than happy to help us and much friendlier. The finally straws (I came here two times after because apparently I'm a masochist) was when I was treated as if I was trying to steal something. I'd wondered over near the fragrances because I wasn't able to find what I was looking for in the travel section. I was digging in my huge purse trying to find lipstick to reapply before I started looking again when magically, a sales associate quickly appears out of nowhere and very pointedly asks if I'm looking for anything. I asked and she kind of rolls her eyes as she's telling me where it is, as if the location should have been obvious or I'm just lying about trying to find something. I've worked in retail long enough to know the strategies used for dissuading shoplifters so this isn't just me pulling theories out of thin air. I eventually found out from the person at cash wrap (somehow they're always the nicest people in Sephora...)that they were just out of stock on that particular item. I would've known this had the other sales person bothered to just walk a few feet and look with me instead of acting like I was trying to pilfer products into my purse. The last time I came here, I had to return a lipstick because my skin didn't react well to it. I tried to tell the associate that but she just ignored me as she rummaged through and scrutinized the lipstick to see how much was left. I still had the packaging, receipt and everything but was treated as though I was a common criminal trying to get one over on them, despite having other things on the counter I wanted to buy. I almost put them back but I just resolved to get them and never come back. My money is better spent at Macy's and M.A.C. where they are much nicer and can color match to darker skin tones better. read more

What made me finally come in and write a review is the negative experience I recently had while doing a return. I shop here often and yesterday made my FIRST return of an unopen, unused item WITH a receipt, yet the front counter treated me as if I had stolen it and went from smiles when they thought I was making a purchase to a frown when I stated I had a return. I will not be returning to this store EVER again, my business will go to the surrounding sephora's instead. The product brands sephora carries are great, but the MUA's are subpar. They pretend to know what they are doing and many, if not all lack skill. My friend went in to try out the anastasia dip brow and the woman caked on the gel. I had to show my friend how to do a more ombre effect, darkening the tail with a lighter front brow when we left sephora. I have no professional make up exeperience by the way so why is it that I'm doing a better job than their make up artists? I had a similar experience when I was asking for a foundation that suited my skin tone - i have yellow undertones and the girl picks one with a red under tone?? If you want to cut down on returns, you should really have MUA's that know what they are doing. The lighting isn't the greatest either for a beauty store with people trying to find matching shades. I almost think they do that on purpose. Word to the wise. treat all customers the same whether they are making a purchase or returning a product. read more

I had a great COVID friendly experience at Sephora! When waiting in line the attendant outside was super friendly. I needed makeup because I just started a YouTube channel and wanted to buy some essentials for filming. I don't ever wear makeup so Robyn and (I can't remember her name sorry :() helped me find Rare Beauty products and a bunch of other great items. But every time I walk in there to look I feel uncomfortable because somehow they always make it to what part I'm in and will ask me if I'm doing okay and then just stand there. I usually end up leaving because they make me uncomfortable. So happy Ulta just opened up on the other side of the mall though. read more

This is one of the nicest Sephoras in Western Washington. The sales associates here greet you immediately when you walk in, and are happy to give you as many samples as you want. They also have way more hair products here than at the one in Tukwila and U-Village. The products here always are in order, and the testers do not look gross and mangled like at some of the other Sephoras. I had a return and lost the receipt, but instead of giving me a hard time and flat out rejecting my return, the assistant manager called the corporate Sephora to ask for the cost as the product wasn't carried at the Tacoma store. She then processed the return and gave me a gift card to use. Parking is really easy at this one, since it's in Tacoma Mall. read more

My sensitive skin and finicky tastes generally make Sephora my favorite place to find new makeup and skin products. They have a huge array of products and brands, so you don't get stuck at one makeup counter like you do at Macys or Nordstroms, and in my previous experiences at the Seattle and Southcenter locations the staff have been wonderfully helpful and knowledgable. NOT the case at this location! The gaggle of sales girls giggling over their cell phones in the corner wouldn't give me the time of day. There was one poor guy who was supposed to be working in fragrances trying desperately to help me with makeup and despite calling over the radio repeatedly for someone else to come help me, no one ever showed. Ridiculous. Two stars, one for their great selection of products and one for the only worthwhile employee on the floor. Next time I'll go back to Seattle. read more
