I am trying out the different locations to see if the customer experience is much more different from location and overall it's about the same as far as customer service and layout of stores go. What causes the star fluctuations as opposed to previous reviews for other Sephora locations is the purchase of certain products themselves and what my experience is with that as opposed to any staff member performance...at least so far. What I got and have really enjoyed at this location is a body wash by the brand Necessaire. The bodywash I got is Eucalyptus fragranced and I really like it a lot! It feels cleansing and revitalizing as well as a great fragrance. It's a nice and pleasant "wake me up" while trying to shake off the grogginess of last night's sleep. I am definitely going to keep an eye out to try more products by this brand. I see that they have a Rosemary shampoo which I can say without a doubt I will be getting to try out in the near future!

It melted, smelled like burnt plastic, and the ends turned crispy--classic signs of synthetic or low-grade blended hair. When I returned to the store with the original packaging and receipt, simply asking for a replacement pack, I was met with extreme rudeness from Rose, the so-called manager. She was dismissive, unprofessional, and repeatedly deflected responsibility, claiming she had to "talk to the owners"--who she initially said didn't speak English, but later contradicted herself and said I could talk to them directly. When I asked how I'd communicate if they didn't speak English, she had no answer. I informed Rose that I work for the government and could easily find out who owns the business since she refused to give me the name. In response, she started making vague, unnecessary comments about my job, which felt like veiled threats. Highly unprofessional and very unsettling behavior for someone in a managerial role. To make matters worse, I contacted the manufacturer listed on the packaging. They told me they would replace the hair if the store manager or owner called them to confirm the situation. I relayed this to Rose, and she flat-out refused to make the call, saying they didn't have time. Bottom line: the hair is NOT 100% human as claimed, the customer service is unacceptable, and Rose is completely unfit for a management position. If her hands are always "tied," why is she even in charge? She clearly doesn't have the skills or authority to handle legitimate customer concerns. Do not buy hair from this store. Save yourself the money, time, and stress--this place sells low-quality products and refuses to take accountability. I have attracted a photo of the hair (out of the package) after I straighten and what the original looked like. This is after the hair was burnt and fried after just one straightening hot iron treatment. The hair turned orange. At the end of the day all I am requesting from the owner is a new pack of hair. I am not asking for my money back. This product over $200 and the owner should want to make this right for a customer.

Mattice was the epitome of the kind of small business that Yelp was allegedly built to support. As the only Black owned beauty supply store in Tacoma that was built with black women in mind (but like Mattice always said, was never exclusively for Black women- other folks need soap and shampoo and hair brushes too right?), Mattice Beauty Supply offered a variety of products without compromising on her integrity. You would never find anyyyy skin bleaching products there. If you were buying developer she was absolutely not letting you leave til you told her what you were going to do to your hair with it so she could make sure you weren't leaving with the wrong one and going to fry your hair. She and her employee Dorian always went above and beyond to help anyone who walked in that front door. She offered the community so much more than a beauty supply store- her community room hosted the widest variety of classes I have ever seen- from art to crochet to hair braiding, home repairs, cooking and letter writing to the incarcerated, she was there to support all sorts of community members in their small businesses. In the year since I first went to the store, Mattice has donated thousands towards kids and other local businesses and even those abroad. The store will likely be closing with her passing, but it will be open on Small Business Saturday (11/29/25) and if you have ever wanted a wig that didn't suck, this is the place to go. I currently own 11 of them from here, so I can vouch for the quality of all of them. If you are a Tacoma local, chances are some of your favorite local businesses are there in part because of Mattice's unwavering support for others. Thank you to the community business that unlike so many others never once used community as just a buzz word.

I did pick up some hair products, they have a large selection which seemed fairly priced. I took a bunch of photos of the crochet hair so you can get an idea of what they carry. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Prices on those were definitely more expensive than online but if you want to see the hair in person, it's better to buy local. They do have a return policy for unopened hair (with receipt) which is nice when you have to overbuy "just in case."
