I lived in Aurora from 1996 to 2018. This is my wife's favorite Mexican Food restaurant. While I prefer Chubbys for Mexican this is very good. The food itself is good, not great but good. I took my friend out for an early Mothers Day lunch, we both ordered the same thing and questioned the waiter (Martine) about substituting the Red sauce which came with it, for Green Chile. He stated it's $1.49, which is WHAT the menu read and we then placed our order. Well, when the bill came they are trying to charge me for EACH enchilada that got smothered (which was 6 ) ...... WTF, who does this? The waiter, Martine said he explained this to us, BUT he didn't so when I asked for a manager we watch as he told the little old skinny looking lady what the issue was about and now here she comes. LONG story short she has NO customer service skills and wants to argue, I don't have time for that (and I'm GOOD with this place ) . I repeated the issue and she confirmed that it's $1.49 but NO WHERE on the menu does it say, $1.49 EACH to smother an enchilada. PUT IN ON YOUR MENU, I feel like Senor Ric STOLE from me. I paid the bill but, if they think I'm coming back they can HOLD THEIR BREATH. The portions here are HUGE. I ordered from their lunch menu and only finished a section of it because it was a lot. They also give you complimentary chips and salsa. Food here is okay, but nothing to be amazed by. Inside of the restaurant is a bit outdated, but can get the authentic vibe from their decorations. Lots of tables and room so people are spaced out if you dine-in. read more

We went as a group of 9 for Mother's Day. Service was good... no issues, however, the food was just very bland. I really wanted huevos rancheros and was shocked that it wasn't even on the menu. The salsa didn't even taste as good as jarred salsa from the store. The food was lacking the flavor and spice that I love from Mexican food. My sons kids meal (chicken nuggets) were awful. Dropped our food on the floor in front of us and didn't discount our meal. I was hoping to give this place more than two stars because the food was pretty good and the waiters were friendly but we didn't have a great experience. As soon as our food came out the waiter accidentally dropped the entire tray of food on the floor. We were sympathetic and understood that mistakes happen. We had to wait for them to remake our food, which was fine. We didn't want the waiter who dropped our food to get in trouble but they told him to go home. We had at least hoped he would still get to work there. Then they handed us the bill without offering to discount it all. I understand that mistakes happen but we had to wait all over again for our food to be made and the least they could do is take 10% off. If this had happened at any other restaurant, more would have been done to keep us happy as customers. read more

Been told about this place for many years but have never been. I'm a sucker for free chips and salsa although the salsa wasn't quite spicy enough for my taste. I got the combo #1 with two chicken enchiladas and rice and beans. TONS of food for $10 and if you're looking for American style Mexican it won't disappoint. Good service and friendly staff although the decor has most likely been the same since they opened in the 80s. The best way I can describe this place is by saying it reminds me of some of the large Tex-Mex restaurants in Dallas or Austin. Multi-room sunken floors raised dining platforms and decorative walls make the interior completely classic--almost like a hotel lobby in old Acapulco. Plenty of staff on hand including managers. Fast service. My friend got two for one Margaritas before 8 p.m. and said they were very good (I don't drink). The fajita platter will feed three adults, I promise. The beef and chicken has been grilled and seasoned to perfection, and it's very tender. The parking lot is huge and has a canopy covered drop off location at the front door. Ok, the food & service are decent but the smell is absolutely disgusting. I'm not sure if their ventilation service doesn't work but I always have to warn people that dine in.. if you don't want to wash your outfit immediately afterwards don't even attempt it. My bf and I went for dinner and happy hour.. i had the bean enchilada with rice and salad and I forgot what he had but the plate was soooo hot ... That means the microwaved the food. The enchilada was soo disgusting flavorless and it wasn't that hot the cheese was old.. The only thing I ate was the rice beans and salad. The drinks were weakk. They noticed we barley touched the food and only charged us for the 2 drinks. if I was given the opportunity I would be a chef at this restaurant and help create a new menu. :) read more

My family and I have been eating at Senor Ric's for at least 20 years. I have never been disappointed. Lets elaborate a little..... The owners and the staff are all very friendly and very good at thier jobs. We are always greated and treated like family. The atmosphere is cozy and quite appropriate. Stucko walls, tropical plants, authentic music, what else could you ask for? The bar is very nice as well. TV's always tuned to local sporting events, great happy hours (2fers) endless chips, salsa, bean dip and queso. A great place to watch a game or gather for a work or family event. The food is always spot on. The best description is Colorado Mexican. It's not authentic mexican by any means, but it doesnt claim to be either. And to call it Tex-Mex wouldnt be approprate either. They have a unique style of food and I really think that is what they are going for! Kudos! The Green Chili is like none I've ever had. I consider myself an authority on Green Chili. I make my own and have tasted just about every varity there is to try. SR's Chili is a pork chili, very thick and very tasty! I always begin my meals with a bowl and two tortillias. I only wish it was a little hotter as I like my chili very spicy! The Salsa is very good as well. Always fresh, chilled and plentyful. Again though, I wish it wee a bit spicier. The Guacamole is excellent as well. My wife and I really enjoy the Quacamole tostadas! Yum! The drinks are always good and the variety of Margaritas is superb. IMO, The folks at Senor Ric's have hit a home run. and the best part is that it is always consistant. You canalways count on your favorite dish tasting just like you knew it would. Senor Ric's is Mr. Mixer and my biweekly date night place. Not that we have a schedule. But we kind of do. And often, we end up at Senor Rics. First of all, you can sit in the bar area. No big deal, right? Except you get all the self-serve chips and salsa you can eat. And I can eat a lot of salsa. Because of this laxity with the salsa, Mr. Mixer and I usually share a Ric's platter and a pitcher of margaritas for dinner. Bonus points for a cheap meal! The Ric's platter is good, though. Two mini tacos, two mini flautas, two mini beef chimichangas and three miniature pollo magnificos surround a little bowl of green chili. OMG-- EVERYTHING IS SO FREAKING TINY AND ADORABLE!!! Ok, now that's out of my system. Everything is pretty yummy, too. The chili is spicy and peppery. The chimis are topped with melty cream cheese. Guac on the flautas. We like it all. I haven't had anything else there in a very long time. One recommendation: get an upgrade on your margaritas. The house margaritas are just too full of sweet and sour; they make my tummy hurt. I don't know....I was underwhelmed. A large group of us went for a weekday retirement lunch. The accommodations were nice - the service was good. The food....? I knew we were in trouble when the chips & salsa showed up. The salsa was that nasty pace picante bland watery sauce. Bleh. (Is it wrong to judge Mexican restaurants by their salsa?) I ordered a combination platter with an enchilada, a tamale and a burrito. It came with rice & beans. I don't know quite how to describe it other than it just wasn't very good. It was a large plate and a large helping of food - but nothing stood out. The flavors were bland and boring. The rice & beans tasted like they were scooped out of a can, plopped on the plate and put in the microwave. I was uninspired - especially for 15 bucks. Remember the 'Tex Mex' chain restaurant Chevy's? (I think there's a few left on the West coast?). I would rate it a few steps below that. (I shamefully admit that I really liked Chevy's salsa!) Having said these terrible things about their food, I would rate their drinks and bar service as quite good. The margaritas that were being ordered and delivered to the tables next to me looked delicious. One of my friends at the table said hers was fantastic - and it was pretty good sized! If I lived nearby, it's quite possible that I would be a regular at their bar. But, after reading my review they probably wouldn't serve me! Don't take my word for it - go see for yourself. Holy tamale what a dump! The interior hasn't been updated since MASH was playing in prime time, and the place is covered in grime from top to bottom. I came here with my family for lunch last week and was blown away by the fact that this place is still in business. It took our waiter thirty minutes just to take our drink order, then another twenty minutes to bring us our drinks, then another thirty minutes to take our order. 1.5 hours later, our food arrived. The food is on a completely different scale of unknown origins and disgust. I ordered a smothered burrito with a beef taco and a chicken flauta. The only thing edible on the plate was the flauta. I couldn't even get through two bites of the burrito and had to give that up because the taste was so awful, I just couldn't bring myself to eat it. The taco was made up of mystery meat that did not taste like beef at all. I have no idea what they used for refried beans, but they were not refried beans, more like strained bean mystery concoction. To top it off, me, my sister and my niece were sick not long after we ate the food. My niece was nauseous all day, I had stomach cramps, and my sister had prescription-strength indigestion. This seriously has to be the absolute WORST Mexican food I have ever had in Colorado! I am from there, so I grew up eating some of the best Mexican food in the country, but Senor Ric's is not Mexican food at all! Taco Bell has better food than Senor Ric's. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all cost. It is overpriced, the service is terrible, and the food is disgusting. An old friend of ours stopped by to see our new house this afternoon. After hanging out for a while, we decided to get something to eat. The 3 of us piled into the car and started driving down Mississippi. My boyfriend and I had passed Senor Ric's a few times and had mentioned wanting to try it (being the fans of Mexican cuisine that we are) and our friend was in, so Senor Ric's it was! We were promptly seated in a tall booth that made me feel like queen of the jungle restaurant. The decor was filled with plants, dimly lit and pretty darn cool. I liked the atmosphere. Chips & salsa were brought to us immediately, bonus! However, their salsa was meh... I've had better. We happened to venture in during happy hour so we indulged. Their basic margarita was pretty freakin' good for a basic bottom shelf drink! This was by far the high point of the evening. The chimichangas were the Tuesday night special, so that's what I got. We waited a long time for food. They weren't that busy and my boyfriend and I were enjoying our conversation with our friend so it wasn't a big deal, but it should be noted that it took too long to feed us. Now, for the food. I have to give it a big fat MEH! The black beans tasted weird, the chili wasn't very good and the chimichanga was soggy & not crispy at all. The chicken tasted good. Mostly moist, but a few dry spots. Overall, the food did not impress me. Mexican is one of my favorites! I was disappointed. The service was A+! The young man (he had to have been in high school still) was very good. The busser even brought us more chips & salsa before we completely ran out and was quick on the draw with the water / iced tea refills! Nice job on the service, Senor Ric's! mini chimi's...that's all you really need to know. We have been going to this place for years. Every time we make our way out to Colorado this is one stop that we always make. My grandfather introduced me to Senor Ric's. He always orders baskets of the mini chimi's, mixed of course with pork, chicken and beef. They serve them with this cream cheese jalapeno dip that works perfectly. I have sampled a lot of the menu. The green chili is absolutely perfect. Slightly spicy and covered with cheese. I prefer it in a burrito. The Mexican fajita pizza is impressive as well. The chili rellenos are so crispy. They dip them in the traditional egg batter but also wrap them in an egg roll wrapper and then deep fry that... pure goodness. The beans here beat any re fried beans I have ever tasted and I love me some re fried beans. They almost tasted like they were cooked with a ham hock or some other smokey meat product. small tip...go during happy hour, order a margarita and then smile when they bring you out two... happy hour rocks :-) read more

We lunched here yesterday. I love the big dining area...the Mexican music and the cleanliness. The service was great ! Very attentive. Our drinks ,salsa and chips were replenished without asking or waiting. I nearly filled up on those alone because they were so fresh and tasty. Everyone at our table ordered the Ric's platter...I ordered the taco salad. Some members of our party felt the green chili was a bit spicy...but I tasted it and I thought it was very good.
