my wife and i went for take out 11/17 at 5 pm. ordered steak and pork with onions and rice with gandules and tostones style plantains. great food not too salty grilled sweet onions meat was perfectly cooked not over or under. rice also was perfectly moist and great tasting also. been eating here for over 15 years dont remember leaving a review yet. nice small place and very friendly staff always. prices have stayed fair and portions were surprizingly large . most places skimp on portions lately but not here. feel like you can get a good value for thus good food here. Food is very delicious and flavorful. Server/ hostess was great . She really informed us about the menu and what she recommended. I got the carne guisada with 2 tostones and 2 plantains with Spanish rice and pigeon peas and pork. My wife got the canoa de platano with the same sides and mine. The main dishes were soooooo goooood the beef stew was so tender and soft with full of flavor. Same with my wife banana boat so delicious with so much flavor. The habichuelas were delicious. Rice was a bit dry but had a great taste. We also ordered and Puerto Rican tamal (Plantain tamal with pork). It was so good too. I can't wait to come back and enjoy this delicious meal again! Drink selection is decent. The restaurant is pretty clean and nice ambiance. The restrooms don't smell which is a plus and they were clean. read more

We ordered a Puerto Rican dinner from Señor Big Ed, to include habichuelas y arroz con gandules, tostones y plátanos and my personal favorite, yuca al mojo. We also order pork chops and have had their pernil in the past. Everything is always very flavorful and tastes authentic with the right amount of spices and garlic. I always drive by this place and I finally decided to try this. I ordered the Monfogo Relleno with chicken and the Cheese Pastelillo which was basically a Puerto Rican Empanada which cost me 27-28 dollars. The place has a small dine in area to the left and you order take out on the right hand side. The worker who took my order was very polite and she was very knowledgeable of the menu. My Monfongo Relleno came with Puerto Rican rice with fried pork pieces and peas, sweet and savory plantains, and Mayo Ketchup. The chicken was juicy and tasty. The Monfongo tasted great. The sweet plantains tasted fine. But the smashed plantain was better with that crispiness and the Mayo Ketchup it came with. The pastelillo with cheese filling tasted great. The pastry was a lot bigger compared to regular empanadas I've had and crispier also. But the filling can go quick if you cut it half. I've never really eaten Puerto Rican food but I'm glad this place is here and I can't wait to try other Puerto Rican dishes and maybe try the Mexican menu. read more

Yum! I randomly saw this place on my way home from work. The names of the food items on the outside and the sign caught my attention. Alcapurrias I hadn't heard of it. So while at the red light I googled it, and it sounded good so I came in! The young women behind the counter was so nice and gave me recommendations and let me try the horchata, it was good but I went with a soursop canned drink because I been obsessed with it lately. I haven't had puerto rican food since i lived in NY. It's Mother's Day and i was happy to get here early enough to beat the crowd. Our server was Aiylani. She helped us decide what to order and kept checking on us. Give her a raise! Her mother also waited on us and they both refilled water and coffee a few times without being asked. The service was excellent! The tamale and mofongo rellano ( tostones "cups" with pork) were very good. The mofongo tasted good but somewhat dry. The coconut flan was also tasty. I love Senor Big Ed's. They have Puerto Rican, and Mexican food, and everything I've tried so far, is delicious! It's a bit of a distance from my house, but it's worth the drive. We even used them for the majority of our food at our small 50th anniversary celebration. Everyone was asking where the food came from. We had the Arroz con Gandules, the Beef, and Chicken Stews, and sweet plantains. We got steamed rice and another type of chicken and pinto beans from somewhere else. We ordered enough to feed an army, so every single family was able to take home a plate of food, to enjoy at home the next day, that we prepared for them. I opted out of the tostones and doubled the order of meduros. (fried sweet plantains) The rice is absolutely delicious. Comfort food on this rainy day! The ambiance isn't so great because the storefront faces out to a parking lot in the street. There is pretty loud Latin music playing which is sometimes okay and sometimes a bit obnoxious depending on how much conversation you like.
