We also order pork chops and have had their pernil in the past. Everything is always very flavorful and tastes authentic with the right amount of spices and garlic. Yum! I randomly saw this place on my way home from work. The names of the food items on the outside and the sign caught my attention. Alcapurrias I hadn't heard of it. So while at the red light I googled it, and it sounded good so I came in! My party of 12 went to Señor Big Ed's for an early Sunday dinner. The restaurant is small, clean, and quaint. Matthew was our server and his service was stellar! He made sure everyone had what they needed, he provided suggestions, and checked in frequently. I ordered the #3, flank steak with onions, Puerto Rican rice, and fried bananas. I haven't had puerto rican food since i lived in NY. It's Mother's Day and i was happy to get here early enough to beat the crowd. Our server was Aiylani. She helped us decide what to order and kept checking on us. Give her a raise! Her mother also waited on us and they both refilled water and coffee a few times without being asked. The service was excellent! The tamale and mofongo rellano ( tostones "cups" with pork) were very good. The mofongo tasted good but somewhat dry. The coconut flan was also tasty. I love Senor Big Ed's. They have Puerto Rican, and Mexican food, and everything I've tried so far, is delicious! It's a bit of a distance from my house, but it's worth the drive. We even used them for the majority of our food at our small 50th anniversary celebration. Everyone was asking where the food came from. We had the Arroz con Gandules, the Beef, and Chicken Stews, and sweet plantains. We got steamed rice and another type of chicken and pinto beans from somewhere else. We ordered enough to feed an army, so every single family was able to take home a plate of food, to enjoy at home the next day, that we prepared for them. I opted out of the tostones and doubled the order of meduros. (fried sweet plantains) The rice is absolutely delicious. Comfort food on this rainy day! The ambiance isn't so great because the storefront faces out to a parking lot in the street. There is pretty loud Latin music playing which is sometimes okay and sometimes a bit obnoxious depending on how much conversation you like. Been enjoying this spot since childhood, around 15-20 years now, but recently stopping by more often due to work being much closer since this place is the only PR food I've known of in the area. Always tasted great and was always my father and grandfather's go-to, but I myself have been exploring the PR food more as it's been over 10 years now since I've flown out there. Very flavorful here, with an exception of the tostones in my opinion, but I've fallen for the mofongo and return more often than I should just for that. Servers are always VERY helpful when I introduce people to the place. One star down for now only due to hair I've found in more recent occasions, I'd say 2-3 times out of the maybe 20 times I've visited in the past year. Always love it here. read more

First time having pernil and it was delicious.! Definitely would try it again. The rice was amazing. My only turn off was that the pernil was a bit too salty. But other than that, the flavors were on point and well combined. The rice was properly cooked and not too hard. The ambiance there was very much so of a small mom and pop so it was comforting.
