The staff play the favorite game and all the teachers have their own way of doing things. You need to donate and volunteer just for the staff to be NICE! I have no problem donating but it's a manipulative way how they run Vanderburg. Also, if you have a problem the school asks you to take it to the teacher when you do you can expect to experience what I experienced from the teacher turning into a BULLY! The teacher became defensive and started treating my child negatively!! Plus, turning on me! And when I sent an email to the principal w/concerns the principal printed it out, showed the teacher and they turned against me and made me feel like I was the problem not them! They are BULLIES!! They do not like parents speaking up or addressing their concerns or trying to advocate for your child. At the end of they year, you fill out a request for a teacher and the school NEVER honors your request! I know they sit around and discuss who goes where because I had another teacher inform me of this process. My 3rd grade son has been bullied since day one of 3rd grade, actually, since 2nd grade by the same child, as well as others. I contact the teacher regularly and she has told me that he's met with the counselors and principal and issues are resolved. Why is my son coming home daily begging to be homeschooled and crying because of another mean child? I have not once been called by anyone at the school regarding my sons behavior. If he is involved in any form of bullying, I want to know! I stopped in the office today to talk and raised my voice to show the importance of this issue to me and the vice principal and principal kicked me out, not caring to hear anything about what's going on. This is why children kill themselves....BECAUSE THEY CARE MORE ABOUT THE RAINFOREST AND TEST SCORES THAN THE WELL BEING OF THE CHILDREN!!!! Last week a child told him their life would be better if he were dead! I've told the teacher in an email and a very long phone conversation that my child is dealing with a death in the family and the separation of his parents so he's going through a lot. It's quite a change in his academic progress and his enthusiasm for school. He says Yayy every morning when I tell him what day it is, and that's school day. He started reading when he was four and a half. I don't have to ask him twice when it's reading time at home. Somehow Challenger got him to feel like he is having fun when he reads or works on the worksheets. He is able to explain to me errors he makes on his worksheets at school, and able to show me corrections. I am happy with his academic growth at this school. I like that the school entrance is locked at all time. You can't get to the front desk before you get approved to pass through the locked entrance There were couple times I had issues with admin. At first, I didn't know the school required uniform shirt and pants. I only ordered my son uniform shirts and went to buy him pants from a clothing store. One day he came home in someone else's pants with no note to explain why his pants were changed. When I called, that was when I was informed about the mandatory uniform. I was upset at how they made him change into different pants at school, and how they didn't have the courtesy to call me to work out the uniform issue. Another time was when I received a past due notice, and a warning of my son's school termination if the past due was not taken care of by so and so date. I was not made aware of the due. When I called the school to take care of the amount, I was told that it was from the one day that we picked him up late. Ms Brenda always calls me back in timely manner. For how happy my son is at this school, I can look past all the admin issues I have had.
