It's quite a change in his academic progress and his enthusiasm for school. He says Yayy every morning when I tell him what day it is, and that's school day. He started reading when he was four and a half. I don't have to ask him twice when it's reading time at home. Somehow Challenger got him to feel like he is having fun when he reads or works on the worksheets. He is able to explain to me errors he makes on his worksheets at school, and able to show me corrections. I am happy with his academic growth at this school. I like that the school entrance is locked at all time. You can't get to the front desk before you get approved to pass through the locked entrance There were couple times I had issues with admin. At first, I didn't know the school required uniform shirt and pants. I only ordered my son uniform shirts and went to buy him pants from a clothing store. One day he came home in someone else's pants with no note to explain why his pants were changed. When I called, that was when I was informed about the mandatory uniform. I was upset at how they made him change into different pants at school, and how they didn't have the courtesy to call me to work out the uniform issue. Another time was when I received a past due notice, and a warning of my son's school termination if the past due was not taken care of by so and so date. I was not made aware of the due. When I called the school to take care of the amount, I was told that it was from the one day that we picked him up late. Ms Brenda always calls me back in timely manner. For how happy my son is at this school, I can look past all the admin issues I have had.

My child is somewhat awkward like most preteens and has been hurt by the very unkind words of peers. Always the teacher involves the vice principle who speaks to both students and follows up with me afterward. Administration leaves classroom issues to the teachers at Coral and if they do address a situation they do not attempt to notify the student victim or their parent to "protect the other family's privacy." The teachers that we had at both schools were GREAT (6th grade teachers at Coral and 7th grade teachers at Pinecrest.) No complaints there. Administration is more communicative and helpful at Pinecrest.

They handed out fliers explaining the laws at school zones...no stopping in the road to pick up or drop off, no double parking, speeding, etc. The parents broke the law constantly and they did nothing about it, never enforced it, which is why parents continued to do it. So if the parents are like this you can only imagine how their kids are. Constant bullying. My child told me one instance when they were bullied to the point they cried, and the teacher Miss Goze, completely ignored him. I complained to her numerous times, the bullying child even stole an item from my kid, and she did nothing. She treated him differently never of his race, if he was her race she would have protected him. Miss Goze is the worst teacher I've ever encountered! The school being complacent about it just shows how horrible they run things.

One of those being that the management team is not very organized and there is not a whole lot of communication between parents and teachers. On second thought maybe there is some type of communication but it just seems like the parents are always the last to know. Although we take our daughter to the public library instead I'm just saying that it would be nice for my daughter to be able to go to check out books herself at the school library. I guess it's just something we have to live with cause we don't want her going to the public schools around here. Just too much overcrowding and it will get worse before it gets better.

As a matter of fact, if you didn't start with them from kindergarten they don't really explain to you the process. They focus on bare minimum. I remember my first year. I was so lost. I had to try and figure out what was what and how I get newsletters because I just never knew what was going on. Just so you know they do send email with the news in case you're new here. They are helpful updates IF THEY MENTION THEM TO YOU! If your child is advanced I would say don't take them here! They put kids that are advanced and kids who are behind the grade levels and think about how hard it is FOR EVERYONE! The kids who are at grade level and above have to slow down for the kids who are behind. The kids who aren't at grade level need extra attention and become disruptive as the kids who are at grade level and above are disruptive too. Can you blame them they are bored!!!!! How stressful do you think that could be for the teachers. I PERSONALLY seen how kids act. I signed a paper my child can walk home and the teacher also approved had no issues with this last year. However this year 2nd day and teachers were saying you can't leave where are your parents! Excuse me anyone can really pick up you don't have a list showing who is approved. 116 outside and they have my child walking back and forth. I honestly don't care what they teach my child as I teach them more at home because the homework was useless and way too easy! Pretty disappointed in the school. My foster son had severe issues after going through the trauma…read moreof being removed from his home. He had no education and was in first grade. He had absolute behaviors, which made it pretty hard for his teacher. Everyone was in agreement that the child needed extra support. As we went through the school year, this child did nothing. He would not complete tests, participate or do homework and received an F in every grade. And the behaviors were uncontrollable. I kept asking the school, the principal, the teacher, anybody who would listen to please hold him back. Sending a child that didn't even have the basic kindergarten education to second grade would be detrimental. But they didn't want to listen. We moved, and he is now attending a new school. The principal of the new school was shocked that Schoor elementary did not hold him back. They said that the school did him a huge disservice. We will be holding him back this year so he can catch up. In just 6 1/2 months this child is a completely different child with the support of his new school. His behaviors are nonexistent now, the only thing lacking now is still the education. I wish I would have stuck my grounds and continued to push for them to hold him back. Like I said, everyone involved was very nice, but I just don't think they were capable of making the correct decision for this child.
